Killian Hayes wants to stay with the Detroit Pistons long term?

Killian Hayes wants to stay with the Detroit Pistons long term?

It has to do with Killian Hayes now I don’t hate just to start this topic off I don’t hate Killian Hayes I think a lot of people think I hate him I don’t I think Killian hay to me is more valuable in 20 minutes versus 30 but kilan Hayes last

Week talked with a reporter and this was a French publication saying that he wants to stay in Detroit long term and I’m going to read you the quote from this article you guys um so you guys can get the full context of where this is coming

From so this is a question they asked them they said this is also your last year of contract do you see yourself in Detroit long term or are or are you open to a new challenge with perhaps more responsibilities Killian said for now I’m in Detroit and we’re going to do

Everything to finish the season strong and then we’ll have discussions this summer I spent my entire NBA career in Detroit and it would be a pleasure to be able to stay after that it’s just not me who decides but Detroit is my home it’s been my home for three years three four

Years and I hope to stay now obviously like when you read stuff like this obviously Killian likes Detroit he wants to stay we had James Edwards on last week James Edwards reported on on live on the podcast that the Pistons offered Killy Hayes a contract extension and they were really far off

On a number they were really far off on a new deal right I don’t really know what Killian’s looking for I don’t know if he’s looking for you know maybe eight to 12 million I think the Pistons front office would probably be more comfortable like around that two to

Six range for him and I think long term what he’s going to be in the NBA is a backup point guard and those are needed I I said at the top of this topic he’s more valuable to me personally in a good 15 to 20 minutes

Once you start playing him in the high 30s he starts making mistakes I think it’s a backup point guard to me I think that’s his niche in the NBA now whether or not you guys want to see him in Detroit I’ll let you guys excuse me

Discuss that but um I wouldn’t hate if if they signed him to a budget friendly deal as a backup point guard because you really don’t know what Monte Morris is going to do even though he he is expected to come back later this month you don’t know if

Monte Morris could be your new long-term backup point guard he’s in the last year of a deal you have to remember um do the Pistons like Monte Morris more than Killian do they want to keep Monte Morris on this team as the backup white Guard versus Killian we’re gonna have to

Wait and see but I think Killian has had flashes this year but as of late he has really struggled and that that’s just kind of like been his career here in Detroit he’s a good Defender good passer offensively it’s still a work in progress and he might never have an

Offensive game in the NBA he might just be a you know pure pass first point guard and there are point guards in this league that have made a living out of that I mean you you look at guys like Ricky Rubio Ricky Rubio could hit his

Shot you know once in a while uh he started to figure it out later throughout his career Killian’s only 22 you have to remember but could Killian Hayes have that Ricky Rubio type of career I don’t know we’d have to wait and see we really have to wait and see

But um I think kilan Hayes is always GNA have a lot of hate towards fans because Tyrese Alberton was right there and I I think a lot of fans would tell you they’d rather have Tyrese if they had to go back rather have Tyrese than Killy in

All day and I think a lot of fans when they have that revisionist history they’ll tell you straight up um I was pretty high on kiling coming out of the draft if he wants to State cool but I guess said there’s a certain price where if he’s asking for you know 10 million

You’re gonna have to say goodbye because I just don’t think he’s worth uh 10 million a year on this basketball team right now but I do want to get to some comments um from you guys this comes from Isaac he cannot shoot he needs to take a whole summer and work on a

Shooting yeah he does and Isaac I’ll go one further I think he needs a new trainer I think he needs to get with some legitimate NBA trainers um no shout of this trainer I think he needs to work with the guard whisper um he’s worked

With a lot of NBA guys he’s worked with former Pistons like Sabin Lee uh you know fixing his jump shot he’s worked with guys like Evan Moy um there’s a lot of talented NBA trainers out there that could really spend time with Killian and you know try to develop his jump shot

But I I don’t know um I I do want to get to a couple more comments about this topic about Killian wanting to stay in Detroit I wanted Cole Anthony ah fair fair Cole Anthony was to me I think in that draft looking back on it I thought

He was the best offensive point guard available like if you just wanted a bucket I thought Cole Anthony to me made the most sense um SJ in my opinion use more faster and resign for cheap deal for mors than extend killing yeah that that’s that’s that’s another Avenue SJ like you

Drafted saser you’re not really playing him we really haven’t seen saser play too much obviously you know Kate got hurt and he’s playing more now but um you know you’re not really seeing too much out of Sasser lately [Applause] [Applause] [Applause] But yeah

This week on Pistons Talk Podcast, Anthony reacted to a recent French newspaper that interviewed Detroit Pistons guard Killian Hayes asking him what his goals were for this season and if he wanted to stay with Detroit.

  1. No player who provides as little to their team as Killian is going to say they don't want to be re-signed. He wants to get paid and there aren't going to be teams knocking down the door to offer him more money than Detroit. Like, Killian, I would also like to make $8 million a year and I also hope the Pistons sign me.

  2. Regardless of what people may think about Killian, all he needs is a consistent jumpshot. If he can get a shooting coach, I think A LOT of people will regret there statements. He's still only 22.

  3. Realistically, he is a failure, like so many other Pistons 1st rd picks.. but if we ever go anywhere, he gotta go.

  4. This "he's OK for 20 minutes" is coming absolutely out of thin air. Anyone who actually watches (every) Pistons game knows that Hayes does better (1) starting and (2) getting more substanial minutes. The 20 minutes nonsense is just another way of saying Hayes is only destined to be a back up. However, if Killian was passing to guys who could actually shoot (e.g. on a team like Boston, the Wolves, Indiana, etc.) he would be putting up 12 assists and game with 1 or 2 turnovers and the entire narrative would be different–even if he never took a shot. And playing credible defense. Killian is just another victim of impossible roster construction of the Pistons. Unfotunately, because he isn't Halliburton, he is hated for it whereas other roster construction victims get a pass.

  5. All the Killian critics out there talk about him like he is a long term vet who has proven to be a bust in the league, instead of the reality of him being only 22 years old and objectively improving across the board in every season of his nascent NBA career. His shooting has improved, as has his passing, defense, running the offense, steals, blocks, rebounds…nearly every statistical category…has improved. The myopic judgement of players by today's media and fans based almost entirely on how many points they score will never favor players like Killian who are quality basketball players but who do not put up big scoring numbers.

  6. Killian has been inconsistent at best. He seems to overthink the game instead of just playing naturally. A back-up PG who can fill-in as a starter if needed. His shooting just hasn't improved to a respectable level. Fans need to stop the if we drafted Haliburton😊 Does he put up the same type of numbers if he is a Piston? Would we have been in the position to draft Cade😮?

  7. Bottom line is he’s trash! He can’t shoot to save his life, Go somewhere else bro because you can’t hoop!! Detroit the only team that would take him 🤣🤣😂😂

  8. The problem with the thought he's a backup or low minutes guard is the numbers don't relate to that, at all. And it could just be getting used it. But his shooting is worse, yeah that's possible, off the bench than starting. Because he isn't a short minutes guy. He takes 5 to 10 minutes to get acclimated. Honestly admire the balls to say to a franchise you want more money as a sub 40 % shooter and sub 30 from 3.
