POSTCAST – West 2nd best team Oklahoma City comes to face Utah Jazz

With the lers and the loss com Utah Jazz met the match for their win streak the Oklahoma City Thunder were just simply the better team tonight Jazz battle to the wire but OKC too much to handle we’ll talk about the end of the Jazz six-game win streak and nine game home

Win streak as we come back on postcast you are locked on Jazz your daily podcast on the Utah Jazz part of the locked on podcast Network your team every Day David lock along with Ron Boone with you on postcast tonight here as the Utah Jazz fall to the Oklahoma City Thunder final score 134 129 Jazz were down by his men as 19 early worked their way back after trailing by 12 at the end of

One they trailed by nine at the half scoring 42 quarter points they got it to within three at the end of three but there were four times in the third quarter the ja has had a chance to tie or take the lead in the ball game they

Four times I could take they didn’t convert on any of the four you do kind of wonder what would have happened had they ever seen the other side of the mountain there for a second then the Thunder stretched it back out to eight or nine for most of the quarter the Jazz

Rally back some big plays late and were unable uh to shut off the Thunder who really just had a bunch of guys that made a bunch of huge plays late Cas Wallis uh Shay Gil just Alexander Thunder moved to 25 five and one when they lead going into the fourth quarter

So that tells you a awful lot about them you know Ron there’s two things to this night I’d say one positive one questioning positive is the offense the offensive rating tonight was a 124 it’s the eighth best offensive night against the Thunder all season long if this is

The seventh best defensive team in the league they cause you a lot of problems they force us six turnovers in the first quarter we finally quelled that by the night was over I think we only finished with 14 turnovers or 15 turnovers at the

End of the night so we got it you know cut that in half the rest of the way so offensively to me this is a really like auring point of view that the Jazz offense which has been a juggernaut recently the highest scoring offense in

The NBA in January is for Real yeah the Jazz Trail W to wire you know well they tied it no yeah tied it once tied it once but you know for the most part the the offense was clicking defense didn’t survive the ball game but uh again this is a very good basketball

Team and I think at that first quarter the J were able to just be down three or four five maybe at at the most but down 12 I think it was at at the um uh going after the first quarter when amount of turnovers the Jazz just could not get it

Going uh probably would have been a little bit different you know going into the half anyway I don’t know jazz jazz did not play well early and then really did do a nice job of adjusting uh points in the paint in the first half uh I can

Probably find the number here in a second was was Mammoth and the Jazz cut that in half in the second half points of the paint in the first half by the Thunder I think it was 40 something points in 42 and finished it what was it

56 56 so 42 points in the paint in the first half 14 in the second half that’s it’s a nice job adjusting it it it is a little bit of like what went wrong in the first half but they were trying something they had not done defensively Scott Morrison shared was a different

Defensive style and they’ve tried all year obviously took them a while to figure it out yeah a while to figure out and try how to stop this team um defensively and what I saw was the fact was a Cutters uh and that’s what really made a big difference with with the jazs

Because you saw even late in the ball game when they were trying to double Alexander maybe a little farther out on the floor uh but then you have the Cutters but now the the defense has to recover tries has to help from from the weak side and you got Baseline Cutters

And and they were just able to score and score and score off of that in that first quarter but as you mentioned they did cut in on that did slow slowed it down to the point but then the three-point shots start falling I mean let’s be frank Oklahoma City just had an

Answer for everything they were awesome right like Cas Wallace hit a monster three late the Cutters you’re talking about is a great answer to what the Jazz were doing defensively Jazz played the Zone very well much better in the second half but Oklahoma City really just had was absolutely fabulous as with an

Answer to just about everything that jazz throughout him that that’s why that team’s so I think in the coaches meeting when Mark was talking about uh Cutters and slashing and and still creating some kind of spacing is is is something that and and maybe that’s the reason they was

Getting those threes you know late in the ball game and put the hands put the ball into some very good three-point Shooters hands uh they still only ended up with 14 three-point shots and but the three-point shots that they made were big at the right time as you mentioned

Some of the the clutch threes if you want to call it that and Shay’s just Bonafide I mean he’s just he’s just top five player in the N just looks so easy for him it and you know how do you stop him he’s going to go to the free throw

Line um plays at his own pace like I said at halftime he was the first one out on the floor teammates was in the locker room he was out there working on his jumper and maybe because he didn’t get a chance to shoot it in that first half

Because he spent a lot of time on the free throw line but he was out there working on his jumper he he’s just um Bo yes he he is a viable MVP candidate the downside tonight would be I thought I we saw more mistakes not very good

Execution a bad handoff at midcourt with a baji and SE I think it was Jordan cleron emotionally kind of bothered by things argued with the official didn’t get back left the guy wide open for the three in transition some things we haven’t seen in a while is that a lack

Of focus by Utah tonight or did you actually credit that to Oklahoma City that they’re good enough that they they they actually expose you in that way I think exposure might be something better than uh because you know there you can go along from game to game getting away

With certain things and then all of a sudden this team takes it away from you you know because you heck they watch film they they know what’s going on but then individual Talent sometimes will take something away from you that you’ve been getting away with you know for four

Or five ball games or the six game winning streak and so it it worked for it worked for a thunder hit tonight all right what let’s talk about the Jazz offense 129 points against good defense what impressed you the most about the Jazz offense tonight I just I didn’t

Think they had a problem scoring scoring against this team I I I thought that that uh Colin seon is is a beast and he can break you down uh the only thing that they had to worry about defense offensively was the defense of of hram

You know he was going to be coming from the weak side so the the the Jazz Cutters should have been there or the the corner three or something like that but but I think offensively very impressed with what the H Jan scored but you know just you know what can you say

About a team that has so much weapons offensively Colin goes for 30 in back-to-back nights but I thought that was seven assists I thought that was as good a passing night as I’ve seen from Colin he’s really made a pass inside to Jun Collins hit a corner three shot he

He made some plays he just didn’t Ed to make okay let’s look at that I mean because Colin is is really turned into a guy that’s you know he’s getting more assists game uh and at first part of the Season uh some of his assists came out

Of desperation some of his assists came out of um um not because he was setting a teammate up in order to get an assist but because he had no other place to go but you know that type of thing if you understand what I mean now it’s it’s a little bit

Different at times col was hard to watch early in the year like he was you felt like his moves were pre-ordained not reading anything he had just shot twice some a pass this time or I need to hit Kessler on a lob so I’ll throw a lob and

It’s intercepted yeah because it wasn’t actually the right read he’s reading the game right now he’s making you know will hardy talks a lot about what did the game give to you on that play he’s giving he’s taking what the game’s giving him it’s a monster step in his

Development so and if if we go by what he’s telling us or we go by what will is telling us I think they coexist because what he’s telling us is he’s watching a lot of film and he’s watching a lot of players uh knowing the weaknesses and

Strong points and and the the drill that he has with the goggles or whatever you call yeah that type of thing is it starting to work you know that type of thing or you know will put him in in a position where you can can make those reads I

Mean I think they they coexist because of what he’s doing and the position that Will’s putting him in I thought it was hard to score and the Jazz scored does that make sense like Lowry was work like putting him Lowry we played Lowry with some post plays on K Wallace and

Catching at the free throw line and isoing him in a way that we haven’t done with him an awful lot I thought it was hard to score on a lot of those plays they were top blocking they were disruptive they you know they’re in the

P and yet the Jazz were able to score which I think is really encouraging I’m there are better defensive teams out there Boston predominantly Minnesota but I I don’t think we’re going to see a lot of defenses that kind of wreck as much Havoc to your Rhythm and for the Jazz to

Be able to score against that’s really good sign you just touched on something I think is very very important because when a team’s defense is strong and good and you react to it and you and you still are able to make plays um you know there are some defenses that just make

You look spectacular because it’s just not that good and and the reads are easy to make but when the reads are harder to make and you still show up then there’s a big difference there maybe that’s what the Jazz are going through right now best team we’ve seen all year I assume

Is Boston yes uh this was what this has to be right there in the top three or four and have to go back and start thinking about some of the other teams that we’ve played that but I think late here in in say in the last two months or

Maybe even a month and a half this is this might be the second best team that we played now again we saw Philadelphia without embiid we saw Milwaukee without Dame Denver we beat here but Denver there smash’s pretty good Denver’s pretty good yeah um so it’ll be

Interesting to see you hear I hear so many Jazz are they’re they’re they’re good now they they’ve caught up they’ve done all this and all uh and then you hear the on that say well they beat Philadelphia MB didn’t play or they beat Milwaukee Dame didn’t play but my

Response to that if they if we as good as what people think we are and we were able to lose to those teams without their star player then what does that say to us right so we able to beat him so that’s and frankly I don’t think

Anyone should be thinking the Utah Jaz should be able to be Philadelphia Milwaukee at full strength there you go right or Boston full strength those without the star player should we be losing to him well we we showed we could beat him which I I’m not sure we

Actually knew right um you know Oklahoma City’s Bonafide close to championship team we you know I’m not sure that that’s a team that that we’re ready to go take you know in a seven game series you’d hope you get a game so you’d hope you beat them at home every now and then

But um all right uh stars tonight Colin seon by the way that dunk in late was something else I mean Shay hit a shot that blows your mind and then Colin answered quickly the other way with an immediate dunk it was unbelievable so that Colin’s got to get a star tonight

Yeah I don’t think there’s any doubt Colin is the star I don’t know if and Markin has had so many stars this year you you hate to continue to give them to him but what else can you do you know where else can you go Walker was

Plus 15 guesser so that would be a possibility yeah um though you know frankly not to like it’s a big issue the free throw shooting thing is a real issue like they in a ma very major possession that swung the game Mark dagnell hacked Walker on purpose really

Smart and we only got one point in The Possession when we needed to get two or three like that’s a big big moment for them it’s a great play by Mark dagel it’s something Walker’s GNA have to worry figure out I’d like to see you know what player mate impacts in the

Ball game um not so much how many points they scor but uh did did one particular player turn things around in a quarter or something like that and that Kesler did you you know he did at uh you know make an impact in the quarter we can

Give this to lry Markin and probably every night he’s very efficient the four assists tonight would be why I would be leaning toward Lowry okay something he didn’t doesn’t always do the fact he’s now averaging two almost three assists uh I think was a big is a big deal yeah

Big deal 10 rebounds so yeah Lowry markon Colin Saxon and yes that challenge was the weirdest thing ever on a jump ball Mark dagnal challenged thinking it was off the Jazz they ruled it was off the Thunder but because they overruled the call on the floor the challenge was deemed successful even

Though it wasn’t the outcome that Mark dagnal wanted so they actually got their timeout back and it was deemed and a-c challenge even though he didn’t get the outcome he wanted is really bizarre but it went to Jazz way they couldn’t convert on it and the ball game ends

Thunder 134 jazz9 have a great night thank you we’ll now send you the first ever 247 stream National Sports stream locked on sports today on YouTube thank you very much hello

The Utah Jazz fought back from 19 down and had 4 chances to take the lead in the 4th quarter but were unable to get over the hump. The Jazz offense kept them in the game but the Thunder multidude of weapons was more than the Jazz were able to overcome. Collin Sexton had another plus 30 point night and Lauri Markkanen had another night with 26 points and 10 rebounds plus 4 assists. Jazz win streak ends at 6 and home streak ends at 9.

  1. I wonder if we could make a upgrade at Simone F position I think as pure basketball ball related move we might either want to think about moving John Collins and maybe our #9 rookie draft pick could get some real nba minutes, also what are your thoughts, would trading either Simone or maybe John Collins who I have loved for years, for someone that give a little more effort as in John's case for a defensive. upgrade or maybe I'm leaning the most toward Simone because his inconsistencies on the offensive side, I'm also curious to see if Ochai Abajis been helping the Jazz or not. Thanks Locke
