We didn’t want to go the full rebuild route. We wanted to re-tool and be a playoff team. Now that it is not working, I see no reason to keep Dinwiddie, Royce or DFS. Might as well play the younger guys at this point. If we get DJM (I do think this is a strong possibility), I hope they don’t keep Royce and/or DFS to sneak into the play-in. Dinwiddie seems to be part of the trade for DJM. Interest in Royce and DFS seems to be pretty high. We need to take advantage of the market and cash in on them.

  3. Games should not be legally allowed to start this late 😭

im sitting behind the Nets bench for the two LA games. any plays I should try to slip to JV? I’m thinking a piece of paper that says “pindown for Mikal”

holy shit, yeah, we’re bad and I certainly don’t *expect* a win – we’re bad enough we can lose any game, lately – but it jars me to see so many fans don’t even root for their team and just show up to preemptively gripe about a future loss 10+ hours before tip-off.

There’s enough to be upset about re: this team that isn’t speculative so I dunno how it makes y’all feel better to just talk us down even more…if it was therapeutic and helping I’d say go for it, but it feels like it doesn’t help and just sinks a lot of you even deeper into despair…like, I’m sorry if I’m being snippy, I’m not trying to be judgey.

People have good reason to be upset with the team’s current situation and I get wanting to get that off your chest here among like-minded people, but again: it doesn’t seem to help anyone feel better or have discussions, it just seems to turn into an echo chamber of increasing anger and sadness. There has to be a better way to cope with this mentally; it’s peachbasket, it shouldn’t affect your mental wellbeing quite so much, you know? Take care of yourselves.

Lets get embarrassed on national TV, one step closer to firing Jacque

I am a fan of the Brooklyn Nets, a team that is currently in a rebuild phase and performing poorly. I want them to win and root for that to happen, even when it seems unlikely, because I’m a fan and not a fairweather fan and if I only wanted to watch or root for a team that wins, I would just bandwagon a contender every year, which is a perfectly valid thing to do as a fan! Because a fan wanting to just see great basketball is reasonable. But so is a fan sticking to a team and cheering them on even in dark times. It’s important to decide what kind of fan you are and want to be!

I could be wrong, but I don’t think (regardless of any changes we make, like the head coach or even the GM) that this team will be *good* for a coupe of *years.* Maybe more! If that sounds like torture, then maybe being a Brooklyn Nets fan right now isn’t for you. And that’s not me trying to say “fuck off, get out!” It’s just me saying that maybe you’d be happier, less miserable, more content, and enjoy what is supposed to be a fun hobby of sports fandom, if you followed a team that is going to be playing more competent peachbasket right now, this week, this month, this year.

If you decide, fuck it, I’m sticking around…well…I know a lot of you will be very angry/depressed and express it here, as has been the case. And I hope you don’t let that drag you down, I hope you don’t carry it with you into your “real life” outside of this sub and outside of watching games. Do *not* let what is supposed to be an escape, a hobby, a fun thing, become a chore or a detriment to your life and mental wellbeing! You don’t deserve that, you *all* deserve to be happy and if the Brooklyn Nets make you more than just “sports fan disappointed” – if they make you legitimately *unhappy* – you don’t deserve that and you have no control over the team or it’s success but you do have control over what you do with your recreational time.

I know I already made a big comment saying essentially this same thing 3 hours ago and it’s only 2 comments ago in this thread, but it bears repeating!

    **TL;DR: Don’t let peachbasket make you a peach-basket-case!**

If losing team gets to fire their coach, do you think the players would try to lose like in that South Park baseball episode?

So, about head coach Jacque Vaughn: his contract extension that was given to him last February, in the wake of the team blowing up (and arguably done more to give us a sense of stability in the chaos than on pure merit) runs through the 2026-27 season.

Steve Nash was fired as our head coach seven games into the 3rd year of a 4-year contract; since that contract was fully guaranteed, the Brooklyn Nets are currently still paying him the full amount.

So, right now, we essentially have *two head coaches on the payroll.*

This means that Sean Marks, who likely doesn’t want to be the reason they are paying *three* coaches simultaneously as well as not wanting to be the guy who runs through coaches like Sherman to the sea, is unlikely to fire JV before this off-season, before Nash is off the books. I think he’d prefer to make roster moves that calm the waters, and see if he can at the least put some more distance between last February/Nash and any firing (again, it’s almost a year but not even a full year yet since we blew up), if not somehow tread water with JV until 2027.

This isn’t to say that you are *wrong* if you want JV fired today, after tonight’s game, last week; it just means that, realistically, it probably won’t happen and you will continue to feel personally slighted by the team the more you expect it to. At least, the more you expect it to *before at least this summer*.

Am I talking too much? These game threads start so damn early and my job has lulls between the madness where I have too much time to reddit at my desk…

I watched NBA today, and the Nets are treated as a joke. They laughed when they were asked who they thought were going to win the game.

Ready for the Cam Thomas 60 bomb + a loss.

As much as I would love to say JV has been exposed as a fraud like Steve Nash, the truth is we switched timelines when Ben went down. We were 3-3 with Ben but with more games played we could have fully optimized our gameplay, and actually look forward to playoff wins. JV would be fine. Just a significant missed opportunity this season.
