New York Knicks Trade Guide: ‘STACK YOUR BOOKS!’ 📚 | NBA on ESPN

All right a happy Friday hopefully everyone is doing great out there uh we are going to do uh another one of these trade guide videos um we’ve got the trade guides coming out uh next week which is Tuesday and Wednesday um everything you kind of need to know

About each team trade meter what to watch um front office history draft assets salary cap trades we’d like to see um and we are going to do one today for the New York Knicks um certainly did the anobi deal back in uh December on the 30th um kind

Of got their business in order right there I played extremely well um still kind of outside that top four but creeping towards there and when we look at New York in a really interesting position because and I and I wrote it it’s basically my um the opening line is

That outside of Oklahoma City there is no playoff team now it’s playoff team right we’re not we’re not talking about um you know maybe Utah is kind of a fringed team there’s no playoff team that’s positioned better than the Knicks at the deadline here as far as

What they have available and I think there’s you know certainly positioned going into the future here I think when you look at it you know certainly we know about their draft assets as far as the ability to trade up to eight first round picks um I believe that’s third or

Fourth highest behind Oklahoma City Utah San Anton Brooklyn’s in that mix too four of your own you have the ability to trade the Dallas first that’s top 10 protected you have um a um a Milwaukee first in 2025 if it’s 5 to 30 and then you have these two protected picks uh

From Detroit and the the Wizards I call them kind of 50 cents on a dollar because who knows if they’re going to be conveyed because it basically has you know years of of protection layered on there those eventually turn into uh a couple seconds for each deal here so from a draft Equity

Standpoint you are stacked um you know the anobi trade only cost you that Detroit second that you had and you were able to um you know keep what you have I would say this about the Knicks if you want to go out and make it there’s no AEV Allstar available right

Now but if you want to go out and get de J Murray you can go out and do it if you want to go out and get Zack Leen you can go out and do it if you want to go out and and and get that next you know that

Guy you can got to do now the cost is associated with it and there’s going to be somebody else available this upcoming summer if we said you know what you’re you’re going to lose all eight first round picks on February 8th you got to go out and do it they would be as

Position better than any team out there that to go out and and do a deal here the big thing for me um to watch is going to be the Foria contract and you’re you’re probably wait a minute guy that doesn’t play um why are we watching Evan fornier it’s

Because he’s got an $8 you know million doll um contracted year $18 million plus $19 million team option um next year and New York’s in this kind of a little bit of this window where the forier contracts their biggest trade asset on their roster certainly you could put

Quinton GES but as far as from a top level guy as far as salary wise because when you look at this roster New York is one of seven teams that do not have a player earning more than $30 million and when you do the process of elimination

And you’re taking Brunson off the deal off the table of course and Julius Randall and then anobi the forier piece is the biggest one here and New York has this decision to make where okay if we don’t trade fornier now we go into the off season you can’t trade him because

It’s a team option unless you exercise it and um and guarantee his full $19 million salary um and the only way you’re doing that is with the intent that you’re going to move him down the road on the other end if you decline it okay for is on your roster past February

8 you decline that option then what happens if that Marquee guy becomes available you don’t have the contracts to go out and get that $35 million player that $36 million player that $49 million player unless it’s going to be of course Randall as part of the deal

And then Robinson and then you start basically taking away your roster your core guys similar to what New York was go what had to do in the in the Donovan Mitchell trade back in the 2022 off season so the fornier piece is your big is your big trade asset as far as where

You are at the deadline i’ I I’ve joked all along that if he’s on the roster I could certainly see him being back because the availability to move him in a like I would be stunned if Evan fornier is not tra Evan for is on the

Roster and all of a sudden he wants to do a buyout and go sign with someone else that is not the smart thing to do here the other thing that you have to be careful with if you’re the Knicks and they have done a tremendous job of stacking their books the Brunson

Contract that descends certainly where Randall is and an Obi where he is right now and that’s going to get expensive but everybody else you know Robinson and then you get D chenzo um and you’ve got a bunch of these younger players certainly Quinton Grimes is a name to to

Keep an eye on um Josh Hart is on their on their books he can’t be traded but they’ve done a tremendous job of stacking their contracts and lining it up and how this new CBA is if you go out and do a fornier trade okay and you’re

Taking back I’m just throwing at names Terry roier or um Deonte muray or a player that has money left and that is going a $20 million guy and is goes into next year the concern now comes to your finances you figure an anobi UPS out of his contract you basically double that

So let’s say he’s in at 35$ 36 million range maybe maybe get him less I don’t know and then if you want to bring back hartenstein who’s a free agent and you can only pay him 13 M up around $13 million because he’s an early bird

Player the money starts to add up here and now all of a sudden you are in a in a great position now you’re a luxury tax team because the um where their money is right now and we’ll pull it up here I we’ll go through it real quick you’ve

Got for next year just hang tight with me here kids uh next year you have $128 million in salary that includes the anobi um player option you’ve got $21 million in uh non-guaranteed contracts one of those players is Jericho Sims okay that gets you to about $149 million you add

Another $18 million for anobi okay that gets you to 167 you bring back Haren steam now you’re at 180 now all of a sudden you’re like right at that second apron team and that takes into account the fornier number or a replacement for Evan forier at that $20

Million salary here so that’s where like yes you can go out and maybe get a player that can help you right now but then you have his money on your books for next season like the perfect guy to go out and get is Bruce brown right like

If you want another guard on this team who can play point guard for you can shoot the ball uh I know you’ve got an abundant you know you’ve got Grimes and you’ve got Divan chenzo and and certainly with uh you know with with Brunson um on this roster Bruce Brown is

The perfect guy for Nick’s fans to go out and get because he’s got a team option for next year so basically you can decline the team option and maybe you sign for a lower number um but that’s kind of where New York is standing here where they’ve got

Everything at their disposal they’ve got the draft assets they got the fora contract now you have to make a decision do I want to go out and and make a deal and take back money that’s going to extend next year and then I’m going to

Be a luxury tax I might be an apron team I be might be a second apron team and all these restrictions now start to come come their way they’ve got you know they’ve got a couple trade exceptions in their um in their bag as far as where

You look at it um they’ve got a 6.8 they’ve got a 5.2 they still have all all their cash to send or or receive in a deal um they’re $6 million below the tax 10.8 million below the first apron if you’re wondering why there’s a there’s not more of a discrepancy there

Is because bonuses count towards the apron um anobi Malachai Flynn and auua precious aoua cannot be aggregated so you cannot you’re not trading in anobi but you cannot combine Flynn and auua in a deal harsh uh Josh Hart cannot be um traded because he has a uh he was extended six-month restriction uh

Brunson hartenstein and Julius Randall all have trade bonuses Randall’s is a Whopper $12.6 million we went through all their draft equities um they’ve got 11 seconds still available so as you can see when you add in their all their draft picks and where their contracts are they’re primed to

Make a deal but it comes down to how much are they willing to um you know take back um money long term now we always put trades we would like to see okay some are big some are small and I’m sure Nicks fans are not going to like

This I’m sure Stephen A Smith is not going to like this but I just kept it simple like I like listen two different ways two different things two separate ones as far as where we’re looking at here fornier and two seconds to Utah for kol linic I don’t

Know if Utah would do that gives you a stretch big guy that can make shots protection behind Randall who knows when Mitchell Robinson’s going to come back here okay that’s simple right or fornier and two seconds okay brook let’s say the Brooklyn second and your own SEC

Brooklyn second and 25 your own second and 27 to Toronto for Bruce Brown I don’t think it would cost you a first if if Toronto makes Bruce Brown available and if it does then you can maybe put that Detroit or or Wizard’s pick or maybe you put your own pick in there

That’s maybe top 18 protected this year here so it’s not sexy because that there’s no as I said high level Donovan Mitchell is not a ailable out there Carl Anthony towns is not available out there but those are more of the simple trades because it fits the timeline as far as

Where this roster is going here but all in all that is the Nicks trade guide video we’ve got the article coming out next week I’m actually going to go on Nicks Film School uh February 2nd I believe that’s going to be to date looking forward to that do a little bit

Of Nicks but they’re in great position I’m telling you the Knicks are in great position as far as where they are right now and where they’re going towards in the future um but it’s it’s continually kind of playing that waiting game here so have a great Friday we will talk soon

Bobby Marks presents his New York Knicks trade guide, where he shares the position he feels the Knicks need to head toward.

  1. I like the Olynyk trade. It's nothing flash but if it gives a stretch 5 option and maybe some spot minutes at the 4 then it's worth it.

If they could get Dunn as well it would be even better. I'd look at using in the Piston or Wizard protected first

  2. Grimes Fournier a first round pick n a second round pick to the Spurs for Keldon Johnson he’s a good young 2 way player that can play on n off the ball n can get his starting job back on this team the spurs can use the picks pop would like Grimes n Fournier is on an expiring contract the Knicks need to also make a second trade for Bones Hyland from the Clippers he’s rotting on the bench over there they can take 2 second round picks for him

  3. Yo man what happen to Donovan Mitchell knicks need him Bronson cannot do it by himself he need somebody with him to go far in the playoffs. Yo man shut up just bring Donovan

  4. They hyped up getting a big name when Rose and WWW got here they better deliver a big name player with all those picks

  5. 🖤❤️🖤❤️🖤
Best of luck in Indiana your going to a great fit and I am excited to watch you fellas play 💙 💛

  6. What nonsense this man talking about trade to get Bruce brown to do what lose in the 2nd round like what’s the goal of trading away all our young players for what Bruce brown and to go home round 2 again

  7. the guy they need to get is brogdon. He won't cost a crazy amount and he can be seamlessly plugged into the immanuel quickley role.

  8. Nah the knicks would not want to send out a protected pick of their own. They would send it out unprotected for the current year. the knicks wouldn't want to limit flexibility- which a protected pick would do. god forbid a superstar becomes available and they cant trade a bunch of their own picks. the organization is frugal but they are prioritizing trading for that type of asset.

i think they should trade grimes, the mavs pick, and some second rounders for murray. atlanta wants grimes. that would take me an essay to explain but its the right move.
