Jayson Tatum on His MISSED Final Shot in Celtics Loss vs Nuggets | Postgame Interview

Call you right back and Jason a lot of this team success obviously is you know moving the ball sharing the ball you’ve done a lot of you know sharing the ball and all that stuff but there’s this concept of you know in a in a matchup like this

Kind of potential playoff type feel that best player on the floor generally wins the game do you kind of still feel that you get caught up in that kind of mono am mono thing like I have to match this or do you have feel like you have to still play Within the

System uh I mean just do has been successful for us and you know that’s playing within the system um and just trust um you know making the right play finding a open guy making plays for other guys um you know just continue to trust that and so like when you come

Down the stretch there um obviously you’re trying to find your spots but like what what do you see in those like final moments when you’re attacking you got that last kind of layup that I’m sure you thought you got filed and the last play like is it the same kind of

Mindset there uh yeah um you know in those situations just you always want to be aggressive um and then you know let your instincts take over and try to make the right play uh but you know I missed a lot of missed a couple bunnies at the

End that uh you know I got to be better and you know just really finish those Jason um offensively it seemed like shoot out in the for a lot of the first half there and then game kind of slowed down a lot and you guys as a team

Struggled a little bit defensively in second half there what did what do you think led to that and how do you guys have to work around that in spots like that when the game slows down yeah uh you know honestly I still think we got a

Lot of Great Looks I one of those times in the fourth quarter we got the offensive rebound twice or three times and you know we had three good looks from three uh and I feel like we just kind of missed some shots um late in the

Game um but you know Joe said in the locker room we still we moved the ball pretty well for the most part generated some good looks um you know just didn’t go down when we needed them to J Jason what stands out about Nicola and the challenges he poses the defense

And obviously for you you know trying to Aspire to reach that you know MVP championship level the things he does to kind of make him you know that status I mean he just he has great touch great feel for the game um you know obviously

Can score with the best of them but can pass with the best of them so uh just presents a lot of challenges on that end and how do you feel about the way you guys try to guard him and Jamal in the tandem uh I mean you know obviously you

Know always can be better um try to make it tough and um you know they’re good players they made some really big shots JT this was an incredibly physical game like had that real kind of finals atmosphere to it and the didn’t really call anything they pretty much let you

Guys play so how do you feel like you guys did in like such a physical environment uh play well obviously didn’t play well enough to win can play better uh I feel like just kind of as simple as that Gary Jason can you take more from this positive from this game the negative

Even though you guys lost I guess so uh you know we play a lot of games you never should get too excited and uh you know we don’t lose a lot so when we do lose it feels worse than it is but you know it’s still just one game um played

A really good team today uh you know happens and just get ready for the next one and I mean obviously they’re defending Champions they got a champion coach like they made adjustments what happened in the second half offensively and how can you guys counter that because obviously teams are

Going to now defend you like they did well you know I think we can really U watch film and and learn from it um some things we did well tonight some things that we probably can do better and uh you know tomorrow or Sunday we going to

Watch film and uh talk about it and learn from it and uh you know really move on question 10 just just sort of specifically if you can walk me through that final shot on kcp sort of what were you looking for when you got the ball

And then what did you think of the look when you got it yeah I think I I kind of rushed it and that’s on me uh in the back of my mind I wasn’t sure if they were going to foul they had a foul to

Give uh but you know um I had more time than I gave myself so uh you know I I should have took some more time but you know can’t go back so you know something I can learn from thank you

BOSTON — Jayson Tatum reflected on the final moments of the Celtics’ game against the Nuggets, particularly his missed shot that could have tied the game. “I should have took some more time but, you know, can’t go back. So, you know, something that I can learn from,” Tatum said, acknowledging the opportunity for growth from this experience. Despite his efforts, the Celtics fell to the Nuggets with a close score of 102-100, marking their first home loss of the season.

  1. This coach doesn’t hold these players accountable like ime 💯 that live by the 3 and die by the 3 is gonna be the Celtics biggest downfall 💯‼️ they gonna be better moving forward

  2. Low IQ shot… these are the types of games and situations that have plagued the Celts. Needs to be better when it counts the most.

Someone put Jaylen Brown on a milk carton after this game. 😊

  3. He was shooting like garbage all night. They had him off balance on every shot, and yet Joe still gives him the ball at the end. I hate it when coaches can't read the flow of the game. He smoked the layup on the possession before; the physicality of the game tired him out as well. Brown was also a complete no show tonight. Joe is big on "winning looks different every night" so why is every final shot a Tatum pull up 3 or fadeaway? "Just give the ball to Tatum" is not good offense. You can do that with a transcendent scorer like Jokic who can will the ball in the basket whenever he wants. Tatum is not that at all. He is not instant offense. He is a player who takes advantage of lapses in defense but he somehow thinks he can score over defenses. His performance in the 4th quarter tonight is a testament to the exact kind of play for him that has lost the Celtics playoff series the last few years.

  4. stop bricks .. dump plays ..you are not clutch… enough !!!! between all of you 2 points in final 4.5 minutes . whats up with 23seconds n miss layup at 14seconds to give ball back to nuggets. 2 out of 17 3s… its sickening … grow up guys , and 5 free throws ? … 4 years of terrible play off lessons have not taught Cs nothing.

  5. He throws games and browns copying his stats brown doesn’t care he already got his money so he throwing to prove a point TATUM THROWS GAMES HE DOESN’T WANT CELTICS TO WIN HE GOING TO THROW THE PLAYOFFS AGAIN WATCH

  6. This is the first time the Celtics using the new lineup to play with Denver. They will figure out ways to stop the Denver's duo next time. No worry. Let's go Celtics.

  7. Love Tatum….he came out swinging but then as the game progressed he started acting like the old Tatum who cares and whines more about the calls the refs make or don’t make instead of being focused and grinding for his team. This game unfortunately reminded me why we the Celtics will never win the ship if they keep trying to play diva ball.

  8. Tatum needs to take a step back when he's not getting calls – try to facilitate, grind on the boards, play defense; because this was a pretty classic Tatum game, where he was getting fouled, not getting the calls, and he just doubled down on taking more bad shots, and more one on three drives – which the refs ignored, just like they ignored the fouls on the good looks. I dont think Joe does a lot of telling guys what to do from moment to moment, but I increasingly think that Tatum needs someone to give him a shake when the refs are clearly not treating him like a star, and tell him to contribute at everything else, rather than forcing it.

Like, he took nine shots in the fourth – Brown only took two. KP took eleven in the game. When the C's cant buy a whistle, collapsing the offense down onto one dude is disastrous, bc by about three minutes into the fourth, Denver knew they only had to defend Tatum. So that's basically all they did. And they didnt have to do it for very long, bc half the time he walked the ball down and gave himself 7-8 seconds to make a shot, and the other half were him driving into maximum defense with no one in a position to help, early in the clock. Nightmare stuff.

I feel like Joe is always talking specifically to the Jays when he talks about 'success looks different every night', and emphasizes the importance of impacting the game in ways other than scoring; and this was really one of those games where they needed to embrace that. Pretty neat to play absolutely horrible, and get a lousy night from the refs, and lose to Denver by 2, though. C's have the rest of the season to work on not having this exact game happen again, and I am feeling good about them pulling it off.

  9. I swear this is beginning to feel like "Deja vu' all over again"..as Yogi Berra once famously said.
Too much time "always" talking about what this and that player can learn from a tail-whupping from a top tier team..
Hell, they've been saying this EXACT SAME THING for 6 straight years now….
You mean to tell me that Ya'll still ain't learn yet about how to not lose good games against the elite teams. We get this same old crappy message every time the top tier teams beat their tails, after they repeatedly blow out the sorry teams. Why can't you guys learn these so-called valuable lessons from all the wins that you get (most in the league). Stop the madness. Colin "The Herd" Cowherd says there's something going on psychologically with JT. This team, lead by JT & JB, seems to keep finding new ways to lose when the stakes get high…as in winning a Title. I hope that they break this habit soon.
The C's may make a good "regular season" champion, but that's about where the buck stops thus far.

  10. Tough loss, a game Celtics should’ve won, but gave away, hauser continues to struggle, they went away from KP, even though joker was cooking him lol, he did adjust and kept joker out of the paint towards the end, but the good teams keep going at Pritchard Joe should’ve went wt oshae they needed more size and defense but you learn from a loss, C’s were not going undefeated at home, they also showed, they can contend wt great teams, can’t wait for the rematch 🍀🍀🍀🍀🏆🏆🏆

  11. I am getting a little disturbed to keep hearing around the league that this is the best team in the NBA when all that they've got is a bunch of excuses when yet another elite team whips their tails.
Maybe they've been reading their own headlines too much, and are overconfident and divorced from their own self awareness.
Just stop the talking, and start playing like the best team in the NBA against the toughest opponents.

  12. It’s all good JT. Jokic/Murray both had amazing and efficient games whereas the jays both struggled from 3 (2/17) and we only lost by 2.

    We go again

  13. I swear Tatum has a learning disability or just refuses to learn. He's had the opportunity 5x in the last month and has failed every time. Sometimes he's just needed to drive against someone 5" shorter than him and puts up a brick 3, and tonight he randomly decides to throw himself on the ground while shooting and bricks it. White should have taken the last shot over Tatum. Tatum isn't good in the last seconds of games.

  14. Same fans pissed at Jayson after tonight were the same ones singing his praises when he scored 50 to close out a series. It’s the NBA. You live and die by your best player. If someone else took the shot and missed some fans would complain why Jayson didn’t get the shot or Jaylen or KP or Derrick. There’s no perfect answer. The Jays had a terrible shooting night nothing we haven’t seen before. The team is still great and is an improvement from last years. It’s one game in a long season no need for the doom and gloom from a very close L when our stars played like ass vs the defending champs. A win would have been great but the season isn’t over
