Why Pacers’ Pascal Siakam trade feels a lot like Timberwolves’ deal for Rudy Gobert

This is a decent article in that it paints the Pacers trade in a great light, but I don’t think the Gobert comparisons make much sense

“Siakam is not a max player”

I really think people don’t understand the concept of who is a “max player” or not.

Each team can give out 2 max contracts and still field a relatively normal roster in the new CBA. So realistically you just need to be one of the top 60 guys in the nba to “deserve” a max, which Siakam easily is.

People think every max guy needs to be Tyrese/Jokic/Embiid/Giannis level good. No, that’s not how the cba works guys.

While we getting an all star we barely lost anything. 2024 draft kinda lacking. Honestly I think we fleeced the Raps. Thanks 🙏🏾 rap fans. Love Toronto great city.

It’s a good article that accurate expresses the pros and cons. The Pacers took a significant gamble on Siakam, hoping that his perfect fit and playing for an up and coming team will get the best out of him after he has declined a bit the last few years. I hope it works. I didn’t love it but I guess I need to trust KP.

I really don’t like the idea mentioned in the article of trading Mathurin. No way we are getting someone who is as good as be could be. Maybe be won’t end up being a star but I think the odds of him being much better that Jeremi Grant makes it better to keep him.

Nah not even close lmao. Gobert trade will probably go down as the worst trade ever if they do not win a championship. even if they win one it might be worth it but I still think it’s an awful awful lopsided trade.

They absolutely hemorrhaged their future. Five first round picks from a team that is historically picking top 5. We gave up way less. 2 picks that are not very far out and we are generally a team that does not pick below 10 almost ever besides Ben.

I mean the Gobert trade has worked out pretty well in hindsight for the Wolves. I’d take a few seasons as the top team in the conference

Rudy Gobert trade comparisons are lazy. This is nothing like that trade lol. There was questions of how KAT and Gobert would fit together as they play the same position and their skill sets didn’t seem to fit each other.

Pascal is perfect for Indy. Him and Rese obviously don’t play the same postion. And we were desperately needing exactly what Pascal is gonna bring to the team. A strong driver who can make use of these huge lanes he will have because of all of our oddball shooters. A lengthy forward who will finally take care of our mismatch issues. Nesmith can now play the 4 and Isiah Jackson/ Stix can now compete for backup 5 minutes. He will also take some defensive pressure off of Myles. He also will be able to go get a bucket/ make the right play when Rese is getting doubled at half court.

I can’t fathom how people think this fit is weird. Pascal is perfect with Hali. He will be getting some easy buckets.

Edit: and our 3 FRP aren’t worth much to us. Other than that we gave up a role-player. Let’s say worst case scenario happens and Pascal leaves in FA. Our team is the same assuming BB was gone anyways. We still have an array of young talent. The only team that suffers will be the Mad Ants without our picks who would have inevitably played for them.

So the Jazz traded Rudy gobert for five players and essentially four picks. We traded two players and three picks. They picked up a player at a position they already had to play alongside while we picked up a position of need that possibly could be the missing piece for us to make a push into playoff contention not just the play in tournament.

The only way you could feel this is risky is if he doesn’t resign with the team but we had several draft picks as assets to trade with. We have such a deep roster we can’t even get our first round pick last year consistent minutes. Draft picks are useless for us right now.

I wasn’t a fan of the trade initially because everyone was saying we’d have to lose Bennedict or Walker or multiple other players on the roster. I did not expect we’d be able to trade Bruce Brown for Pascal Siakim
