Joe Mazzulla LIKED Celtics Crunch Time Shots vs Nuggets | Postgame Interview 1/19/24

I don’t know I don’t have the exact number on what the things were but I thought the nonic minutes we I thought Murray played really well and uh we stuck with the game plan as long as we could we doubled them a little bit and some of their Ro guys got some open

Shots and made them uh we did a great job of bouncing back so uh like you said I think this you know whether it’s offensive execution um you know getting stops at the other end but you know yeah is this something that you kind of Chu

Up to like your two best players didn’t have the best game um no you take a what I look at it is uh I think you asked me the question the other game when like we were winning just because we were making a lot of shots this game I thought we

Did a lot of really good things well on both ends of the floor we got only turn the ball over three times uh 12 offensive rebounds got one more free throw than they did and I thought we had some really really good looks um both at

The rim and from the perimeter and uh you know they made a few more plays than we did down the stretch uh in the last possession there you you called the timeout and then had to use the second time timeout what was it that you were trying to get to and

And and why did you have to call it timeout uh well they had a f to give so I was making sure that you know we just got the shot and got into the set that we wanted and so I wasn’t sure when they were going to use their file to give

Yeah you got to pick and choose your spots right um and so I think the one we blitzed in the third quarter and it was a little bit too high and they kicked it and got a corner three like you have to they put you in a tough spot and I

Thought we did a good job of uh just continuing to fight and chipping away and off Rhythm here off Rhythm there and uh literally came down in the last possession that was an insanely physical game I mean that’s the way they which I think which I think we were better at

Than you know Gary mentions the Minnesota game I thought we played with that same type of physicality I thought there was two physical teams playing whereas we left like the Minnesota game you said I didn’t think we match that and so I think that’s the biggest thing

That we took was like that type of physicality but so much of your crunchtime offense has been about just kind of identifying crossmatches and giving space to attack those and this team was so physical how do you feel like that worked those last kind of five

Minutes learn from that yeah I mean I thought we got at The Rim at will I thought we had some kickout threes uh probably get KP a couple more post-ups um you know but they put a small on them and uh you know they had both bigs

Behind and so they were able to crowd the paint a little bit but I’ll have to go back and watch it but I thought in real time I liked uh the shots that we got I lik the spacing that we got any other questions thank you Joe thank you

  1. i just felt a sense of deja vu in the critical moments of the 4th quarter. Joe calls a time out and once again sets up the predictable play: get the ball to Tatum to go against 2 defenders and do his hero ball thing. (Tatum who in 39 minutes had 22 points, shot 9-24 (fg) and 1-8 3pts.) Why not call a play for a 2 man game between KP and DW…your 2 bright spots in the game? Frankly, Joe once again you were outcoached in the critical moments of a game. You refuse to use a "change up" as you called it when KP was acquired.

  2. Joe Mazzulla still can't draw a crucial play & always no adjustment in 3rd quarter 😅😂😅😂😅😂😅😂😅😂😅

  3. I love Tatum, don’t get me wrong, but they give him the ball for the last shot pretty much every time, and this multiple first team All-NBA player has maybe made 1 shot. He pretty much missed them all, and many times they aren’t even good shots. Jaylen Brown, our other All-NBA player tends to either disappear or choke as he did in last years playoffs down the stretch. They r both good, but I think overrated. Maybe Tatum is a 2nd or 3rd team player. Brown, sorry, there r other players who r better.

  4. This coach doesn’t hold these players accountable like ime 💯 that live by the 3 and die by the 3 is gonna be the Celtics biggest downfall 💯‼️ they gonna be better moving forward

  5. We saw the difference between a champion and a second round, maybe ECF runner-up. Celtics need to play smarter. Physically gifted but too many dumb, low percentage shots when they show they can get to the rim when they want & where r the free throws??? Of course, pls don’t put Jaylen on the line if u really need a free throw. Celtics have a very good record. They have a good team. But championship level, not at this stage of the season. Denver showed them what it takes and I know it was close, but bad decisions and shots down the stretch is a repeating theme with Mazzula’s guys.

  6. If I were coach Joe, he should lure Denver as Tatum taking the last shot which is always anticipated, then let DWITE take the last shot, he us more clutch than any of the stars in Celtics

  7. What we learned tonight:

    1. Tatum isn't clutch, stop running the same play he always misses on at the end of games.

    2. The Celtics are not serious contenders. They are top 3 in the east, but probably #4 or #5 overall

    3. Please keep this team off national TV. I'm getting tired of the world watching them embarrass themselves

  8. A Div II coach will never win you close games/an NBA championship. This team wins on talent, Joe does absolutely to facilitate their execution/shot selection.

  9. This fan base is hilarious, man. I was pretty sad about this loss, for a number of reasons, but reading all these 'the celtics are terrible' and 'fire joe, they cant win with him' comments? You remind me how good they actually are, and more importantly, how not to react to sports. Blessings on all, take care.

  10. I don't think people realise how ridiculous it is that there is such a wide used phrase called "Non-Jokic minutes" where teams hope to beat the nuggets in said minutes because of how great if a player that man is.

  11. These reporters are so scary to ask Mazzulla the real questions. How about asking him in late game situations is there any thought to draw up a play for someone other than Tatum since it seems to be so predictable that Tatum will get the ball and the fact is Tatum rarely ever hits a game winning shot.

  12. Lol .u like ur last shot even most of the time jt or jb cant make those last shots what u design a play for them..u dumg for always setting a play for jt or jb taking those last shot even though they r not making mostly tose shot .u should givevit to jrue,kp or dw to take last shot they r more calm and focus player than ur 2 all star player..they dont have a killer mentality and cant deliver in those clutch moments .terrible coaching.

  13. There are highs and lows in a 82 game season. The Celts weren’t at their best and still could have won, come back from that ledge.

  14. this guy is going to cost us a championship . Big perkiness had it right in the post game . When the threes are not dropping go to the hole. sometimes Mazzula seems to be stuck on STUIPID

  15. It's very rare the celtics lose a game when they only had 2-3 turnovers they did really well on the offensive side of the glass getting those extra possessions it just came down to making shots are pope and gordon really gave the jays that work.

  16. You know what I think is coaching had something to do with the loss and it started at the beginning of the second half! Those threes weren’t working, you take a time out and you tell your guys to do something different because they’re not working! But your threes weren’t hitting and you got multiple shots many times you do something different, you’re as much to blame for the loss of the players😮
