Bobby Marks’ Dallas Mavericks Trade Guide 🚨 TO THE TRADE MACHINE! | NBA on ESPN

All right happy Monday hopefully everybody’s doing great uh we are going to do a trade guide video um we have the Miami heat up and we we’ve done a bunch over the last past week trade guides will come out this will be the last time

I get to say trade guides will come out on uh Eastern Conference on Tuesday Western Conference on Wednesday we’ve got plenty of content coming uh down the pike over the next um I guess it’s two and a half weeks here uh I figured we would do a Dallas Mavericks trade guide

Video probably not going to be as um as appealing as it was a year ago well actually we didn’t know Kyrie was going to be available until the week before that Sunday uh well I guess it was that Friday he he asked to be traded and then

Uh was traded at Sunday right before the deadline so we’ll do Dallas here um I’ve got him on a scale of 1 to 10 10 being the highest as far as um the trade meter out of five kind of smack dab right in the middle um what to watch is certainly

Health I mean that’s I mean you could say that for any team but I think for Dallas is in such a unique situation because um considering where they are right now um you know um top six or right on the outside there kind of in that that playing territory um you know

Kyrie’s missed a big chunk of games Luca has missed a bunch of games um Josh green has missed a lot of games here um It’s been a rotating door of players and to be able and Derek Lively’s missed a bunch to be able in that situation where they are right

Now U is pretty remarkable here so from a from a health standpoint um you know that’s probably one of your best trade assets just stay healthy um because you have probably the best back court in the NBA here when they are healthy and I would I’d roll them out with any of

These teams out uh out in the Western Conference but they’ve got to be be healthy here um 14th among all teams in Miss games um you know over 22 different starting lineups which is uh which is which is pretty remarkable I think from a I think from a trade perspective I

Think when you look at Dallas um they did a really good job and and I wrote about in the off season they did a really good job as far as what they had as far as from an asset standpoint you resigned Kyrie um to a below Max

Contract and I think that’s going to be the norm going forward if you’re if you’re not a franchise level or one of these younger players signing rookie extensions um you know it’s it’s okay for teams to negotiate and certainly Dallas negotiated and I think when Kyrie

Comes in at 37 that was just a trickle down effect as far as you’ll be able to go out and get Dante exom and um and Seth Curry and you you did the Grant Williams signing trade and you tried to get mati dyble before he uh the off

Sheet in Portland was matched here Derek Jones for the minimum um Markeith Morris for the minimum here um and they’ve done a lot of good things as far as just those Fringe type moves that didn’t really draw the attentions um you know Dante exm I think was like on a like a

Sunday night when Dallas agreed to sign with them and they’ve done a lot of nice things as far as those trimming around the edges now when you look at it listen they’re going to be linked to All these power forwards that potentially could be in play whether it be Kyle kusma or

Jeremy Grant um players uh you Pascal sakam is off the board it’s just a matter of kind of a process of elimination here as far as when you look at it from a roster standpoint so when you look at their their roster okay we’re going to pull it up here and we’re

Going to take Luca off the board and we’re going to take Kyrie off the board and Tim Hardway Jr is having a terrific year Sixth Man of the Year type year he’s at 17.9 million let’s take Tim Hardaway uh Jr off the board and we’re going to take Derek Lively off the board

And we’re going to take omx Prosper off the board because where the Mavericks are financially and that’s a big reason why they went out and got om Max and certainly with the Lively pick and when you hit on those picks they’ve got $172 million in salary

Next year the luxury tax is at $172 million they are um right below the first apron 7.3 and they’re about $18 million below the second apron why that matters is that you cannot be going out trading your young players on controllable contracts for players that are on expiring so so we’ll remove Lively

Omx and then it’s just a process of you know ran Holmes has another year and a player option got to attach something to get off that you look at Grant Williams who’s in the first year of the 50 54 55 million contract here $12.4 million Maxi

Cber still has three years at you know 11 11 and 11 um Josh Green signed a rookie extension he’s got a poison pill restriction in this contract um for green I’ve been beating this down hard as far as when we say poison pill players rarely get traded here because

When you look at it um and we and I’ll explain to you why I’m just pulling up the Mavericks article so for poison pill for a guy like uh for Josh Green for trade purposes 4.7 is used as his outgoing salary and 11.4 million in incoming salary so it’s not the same

Going out as it is coming into the acquiring team here last time a poison pill was traded was Dallas his own Devin Harris back in ‘ 08 I’m not saying that Josh green um can’t get traded it just makes it a little bit more challenging

As far as how you um how you finagle the number here um and then you look at you know certainly Dwight Powell another guy who’s at a $4 million contract so if you’re looking at guys like Jeremy Grant and and Kyle kman for me it’s it’s hard

To see Kyle kman being you know just given away based on he’s got one of the great contracts as far as a descending contract starts high and then it goes down um Grant is ascending um that 5 for 160 number keeps on growing here and then you look at all right you know

We’ll we’ll pull out the trade machine here if those let’s say hypothetically those are your wish list here does a there a rwn Holmes Grant Williams and Dwight Powell or Grant you know like that does that combination and for me if I’m in Washington or if I’m in Portland it’s

Doesn’t it doesn’t do anything here um because when you look at Dallas’s draft picks you owe New York um that top 10 protected first likely going to be conveyed here you owe Brooklyn a 2029 first um the earliest you can trade a first is in 26 that’s the only first you

Have a 26 or 27 that’s the only first you have available to trade you got swap rights in 26 27 and 28 um San Antonio has the right to swap first with you in 2030 and you only have two2 so that presents the problem from a draft assets Equity standpoint like if

I’m Washington and I’m going to look to move Kyle kusma I’m looking for two two ones if I’m if I am um Portland you know there’s a first and that group of players that I just mentioned does that even get you in the in the door here is it just because

They’re trying to get rid of your contracts but then when you look at it every every guy except for Sean Holmes has length on his contract Grant Williams has three more years Maxi cber has two more years so why would you move you know $25 million in salary in two

Players in a first in 26 or 27 for a really good player and Jeremy Grant if you’re just looking to get that money off that doesn’t doesn’t make sense at all um when when you’re looking at it here so from a from a salary standpoint Dallas is 3.6 million below the luxury

Tax they’ve got some flexibility there um they are 8.5 million below the first apron that is the hard cap they cannot exceed that um Luca and Kyrie have trade bonuses I wouldn’t get into that I mean Kyrie’s bonus is at 8.1 he’s I don’t believe he’s going anywhere

Um they’ve got cash to send out in Deal 6.9 they’ve got a trade exception in five at $5 million so when you look at Dallas and you know all these videos are different here some are like you know we could do we could do a um you know Oklahoma City video probably

20 minutes as far as talking about their assets it’s all about and they’ve got 15 players under contract in Dallas it’s all about as I said staying healthy right the back court here Lively’s been one of the best rookies me and Kevin Pelon have had him number three for um

Um for the last since we’ve been doing rookie rankings um you know Josh Green is when he’s back Tim Hardaway you’ve got enough of those pieces here I just don’t think the Mavericks have enough for that one more guy and even if you did then you’re probably entering if

It’s Grant then you’re entering apron territory or you know in in the future here as far as how much you are giving up based on where your salaries are going to be here but that’s it for Dallas I mean you know listen we um oh

Trade we would like to see we always do this right I apologize to those people from the Miami Heat watch and then we did not do that for that uh it’s hard to see Dallas getting in on Jeremy Grant we just talked about let’s go smaller

Smaller trade uh ran Holmes in a 2026 second via my Miami to the clippers for PJ tuck PJ Tucker who also has a secondy year team a player option left on that very small we have to do this for every team here um but they’ve been Dallas has

Been uh their GM uh Nico Harrison has been aggressive the Irving trade last year the porzingis trade the year before they’ve continually tried to turn around this roster Irving Curry exom Grant Williams Derrick Jones Marie morrris Derrick lley om Max and Sean Holmes in a year so it’s not like they’re just

Sitting at home with their hand you know sitting on their hands here they’ve continually tried to turn over this roster and when you have a franchise player like Luca that is the goal every year so that’s it for the Dallas Mavericks we will talk [Applause] soon NBA is

Bobby Marks breaks down the state of the Dallas Mavericks with Kyrie Irving and Luka Doncic and shares his trade guide with possible trades that could be made ahead of the 2024 NBA trade deadline.

  1. Doesn’t matter 1st round exit don’t got no big for nuggets clippers and lakers even tho lakers going bad rn

  2. Mavs is done when trade for porzingis!this franchise have bad future!and luka will be all time mavs because of mony, mony and mony hi is so stupid man!

  3. He grades Kyrie’s trade as a 5/10 smh Bobby is the dumbest guy EVER😂😂 these reporters and their Kyrie hate is heavy

  4. It still makes sense for the Blazers to just trade Jerami Grant's five-year, expensive contract and break it down to smaller contracts with Holmes' money coming off the books at the end of the season.

  5. Very uninspired. Nothing new. Just quit your job. You're obviously not good at it. You just spew common knowledge. Offers nothing new.

  6. I think the Mavs need to go for less ambitious trade targets. I know most people are screaming they need a big, but what they need the most is a forward that can shoot and occasionally creat his own shot, while playing decent defense. For me the most attractive and workable targets would be Gordon Hayward and Bogdanovic from detroit.

  7. You do this for a living and the best you could come up with was PJ Tucker? No mention of PJ Washington whose value is currently low and the Mavs have been pursuing since the summer? Nothing on a backup center? PJ Tucker???????

  8. This guy never say anything useful. He never says anything that is very very obvious. No insight at all or deep analysis. He never see anything that teams actually do outside of th3 very obvious.

  9. The front office has buried this franchise into the ground! in the past 5 years, after they were able to sign generational talent luka + jalen brunson every single move after that was a major bust! every move they made was an L, every draft pick, signing, trade we would take a massive L, which brings us to the current situation where they wasted all of the assets they had and the team never looked worse. And on top of the that they lost jalen brunson for absolutely nothing!

  10. Not sure why you’re taking Hardaway off the board. He’s their only asset on a big enough contract. Or OMax… only young asset they could give up

  11. My Mavs are a lottery team organization 😂 we won 52 games in 2021-22 season went to WCF and were 7th best defense that season all we had to do was pay Brunson and get some solid rim protector, Brunson also got better every year i thought that he will retire as a Mav i was like theres no way they do this again like with Steve Nash but nah 😂 complete joke of an organization

  12. THJ is definitely not untouchable. And his inclusion makes some of these trades possible (although not likely). But if you take him out then you're right, there aren't many trades that can be made.

  13. LOL please don't take THJ off the trade block. He is fool's gold. Under 40%fg the past 2 seasons, under 42%fg this season, while being a bigger defensive liability than Luka & Kyrie. Mavs will never be a contender with THJ as their 3rd, or 4th, or 5th best/highest paid player, because THJ + Luka & Kyrie = no defense.

  14. should trade Kyrie and get a haul for him. 3 good players a a couple 1st round picks from a bad team which would be good picks.

  15. I know this answer , for the Mavs …super tan idea , win win win

Trade Lively to Celtics for Quintas and a load of picks

    Sign Kia Jones

Trade Picks to Utah for Samanic

    Win this year

    Trade
