Do the Miami Heat Have To Make a Trade ASAP? | Miami Heat Podcast

A day after a blowout loss Heat fans are frustrated about what happens next is this team good enough or does a trade need to happen and if so when is the right time we debate the possibilities before looking at one likely Target that is generating a lot of interest from

Miami’s front office and if he’s a good fit for the heat quest for a title buckle up and get ready for another great episode of Locked on heat you are locked on heat your daily Miami Heat podcast part of the locked on podcast Network your team every

Day all right welcome to lock on eat your daily podcast on the Miami eat however you might be tuning in on YouTube Odyssey or your favorite podcast app thanks so much for making lock on heat your first listen every day I’m West Goldberg editor at allou can heat.com joining me as always longtime

NBA reporter David Mill today’s episode it’s brought to you by FanDuel make every moment more right now new customers get $150 in bonus bonus bets guaranteed when you place a $5 bet visit fanduel.com lockon to get started well the Miami Heat have lost three games in a row

They’ve dropped the sixth place in the Eastern Conference and now we need to ask ourselves if the heat can afford to wait all the way until the trade deadline on February 8th to make a change or if they need to make a change right now or at least as soon as

Possible so Miami as we wake up here and talk Monday afternoon two and a half games out of fourth in the East the Cavs are right now in fourth place they’ve won s straight the Knicks are right ahead of them in fifth place they’ve won three in a row they’ve made changes the

Knicks adding ogan and Obi a couple weeks ago um the heat are in a virtual tie for eighth place with the Indiana Pacers and the Pacers themselves have made an improvement recently by trading for Pascal seak and when they get Tyrese halberton back you got to imagine that

That team’s going to go on a bit of a run so a spot in the play in tournament is very much in play for the Miami Heat dare I say even probable at this point given the context text around them in the Eastern Conference and that’s only

If they don’t make a change or if they don’t go on at least go on a run of wins here soon um David with everything that’s going on in the Eastern Conference and seemingly every rival getting better and playing well as and and playing better as the season has

Gone on it doesn’t really feel like that’s been the case for the Miami Heat who can win a few games in a row drop a few it feels like as excited as we can get about this team we can be equally frustrated about this team but I do

Think it’s clear and it’s not just because of the three-game losing streak like the Heat have not played well even when they were winning games against Bad teams right like a win against the Charlotte Hornet is’s nothing to write home about like they have not been

Playing well in about two weeks now so does it feel like they have to make a trade now or or like what level of urgency would you say the heat are at I don’t think it’s a high level of urgency but I think there’s a sense that you

Have to keep Pace with everybody else in the Eastern Conference they are just treading water throughout the course of the regular season and that’s not nearly good enough you want to be able to maximize this opportunity you want to be able to compete for home court advantage

As Eric spoler is often fond of saying you want to get better as the season progresses well I don’t know that the team has done that in fact I would probably argue that they’ve g a little worse of late and I don’t know it’s necessarily due to injury or just a lack

Of shooting or just the tension that might be kind of swirling around the locker room right now so to me if you’re going to make a trade the sooner the better because you want that tension to ease because you want to get a a new face into the lock room that’s going to

Bring an energy and excitement and a level of Encore Play that we’re not getting from somebody on this roster and if that’s the case you want to be able to replace that person as soon as possible bring this person in get them acclimated have them bring whatever it

Is that they’re going to bring to the table with scoring or defense or size or whatever Target Miami makes you know to as far as their target and the trade deadline they want to be able they should be able to get that done quicker rather than later because you don’t want

This hanging over the team like there is is a palpable tension around the NBA in the weeks preceding the NBA trade deadline like we kind of dismiss this as we all play armchair GM going on the you know the the websites and trying to input names here and figure out oh you

Can move this contract for that contract Etc but these players are worried about their lives being uprooted and so that kind of hangs over them in a very very tangible way and until the trade deadline passes do they get to break breathe a sigh of relief so for I think

Just from their sake and for the chance of them playing at their best and being able to keep Pace with the other teams at the Eastern Conference pull that trigger soon get it done bring that face in there have them come in and learn the system and understand what it’s like to

Play for something bigger than yourself here in Miami and compete for a championship I think that’s especially true when you talk about teams who are expecting to make a trade right like the Denver Nuggets don’t really care about the trade deadline right now they’re not

Expect maybe they make a move or not I don’t know but they’re those those players aren’t the tension in that Denver Nuggets locker room what it is in the Miami right they’re like you know we’re we don’t really care about the regular season because we don’t have to

Because we’re the defending champs you know and and there’s other teams in the league that are like that but when it’s so obvious that something’s got to give with the heat and especially you listen to the comments that the players made after Sunday’s game in Orlando and Bam

Atab bio used the word happy and he said Eric spoler has a lot of work in terms of making the rotation and making sure that everybody’s happy and I hear that and it jumps out to me because aer’s job isn’t to make people happy no it’s not

Oser’s job is to win basketball games and whatever he’s got to do with that rotation to win basketball games is what he’s going to do now that’s not to say that there isn’t a degree of ego management and personality management and things like that of course there are

But that has nothing to do with happy that has nothing to do with happy that’s just managing Egos and managing personalities and managing whatever it is that you have to manage so when I hear bam anabo say that that says to me and again this is just reading in

Between the lines not reporting anything that somebody in that locker room or somebody’s in that locker room ain’t happy that’s right you know what I mean and so and I think that’s fair and I think and I wrote about this at all you can heat this morning they have a too

Many guys problem they do and we could talk about Kyle Larry at naum if we want we could keep talking about him but when you have 11 or 12 guys who expect to be playing minutes and that’s just not realistic in an NBA rotation on a night

Toight basis then some guys are going to be unhappy when they’re not playing and that’s fine that’s totally fine but sometimes you do got to mix it up a little bit and and and I think the heat are at the point now where they got to

Mix it up and Kyle lry is the big name he wants to start he’s not starting anymore I would be very surprised if he started another game this season for the Miami Heat barring some sort of injury situation um and that and I and I’ll stick to that right and I’ll whatever

But I I think that’s sort of the expectation you have to move Kyle Lowry I think that there’s other things that you got to do I think this team needs a consolidation trade I don’t think it could be Kyle Lowry for another player play who’s just going to push other two

More players out of the rotation I think they need a consolidation trade I think they need to move multiple pieces and upgrade the talent level of this roster in a way that also helps them keep Pace with these other teams in the Eastern Conference so you kind of have to hit

Two different things here for the Miami Heat before the tread deadline and I think sooner rather than later you got to make a deal that makes a lot more people happy in that locker room but also in increases your talent quota so that you can compete with a better

Boston Celtics team a better Milwaukee Bucks team a better even Indiana Pacers team just to stay out of the playing tournament I mean I don’t think the acquisition of talent is a likely one I know they’re going to get an upgrade perhaps over Lowry but I think only

That’s because the the ceiling and floor for Low’s level of play has dropped so precipitously I don’t know that that’s an upgrade that’s fine I’m not talking about like a superstar yeah but you’re talking about a consolidation trade consolidation of whom like which players do you think are ah neither I don’t know

But I have ideas I have ideas you know you can’t just ship out Caleb Martin and Thomas Bryant and get X High Lev Wing player or even X level big but I also think we’re I think we’re underrating how easy it’s going to be to move Kyle

Lowry like the T Rosier thing we can jump into that if we want the Tera Rosier thing I think people are oh you know it’s it’s a it’s this kind of contract it’s long-term Charlotte wants to get off of it Miami can just move K is expiring and a second round pick and

Get Terry Rosier I don’t think it’s going to be that easy I think charlott’s going to want something you know and what if look it would not surprise me if Miami were looking at options that included moving Caleb Martin somewhere else and getting extra draft Capital back and then using that draft Capital

To attach to Kyle Lowry to sweeten a Kyle Lowry deal to get an upgrade at that point guard spot it would not surprise me if the heat were exploring that option very strongly because I think they understand that Caleb Martin is going to be a high pric free agent or

Going to be asking for a lot of money and that you have some backup for him now behind with him with Haywood heith and the emergence of haime hakz and I don’t think one second round pick is going to get it done for the kind of upgrades that the heat are looking for

Right and do you want to attach niika yovic I don’t think you do I think the heat are are very much in on on Nico’s future and they would like to maybe see this through for another year or two or maybe not at Le if you’re gonna trade

Them not for I like ter roier but not for a Terry rer upgrade you know and so can you move Caleb who you might think is walking away in free agency anyway the way that Vincent and Max dreu did for a couple of second round pick couple second round picks couple second round

Picks that’s three second round picks attached to what do you mean no chance you can absolutely get two second round picks for Caleb Martin why not I think I think we overvalue the hell out of Caleb’s level of play this guy was out of the league two years ago Dude like I

I mean there’s a lot of teams have a lot of second round picks if you’re a contender you wouldn’t take a second round two second round picks for a flyer for Caleb Martin to sh up your wing rotation just to have a ninth guy in your rotation nope wow you’re really low

On Caleb Martin I think you’re really low on Caleb I I I love what he brings to the table but I think we’ve maximized everything he does here and and I said this on our show with our own nerney like I I think he he’s been great I

Think he does a lot of nice things for Miami and I think the rest of the te the league sees a twin that was basically on his way to China and I don’t know that he’s going to do anything bigger or better or even on par with what he’s

Been able to do for Miami like we’re seeing him now and this is a team with a well-earned reputation for getting the most juice out of a player and he’s he’s okay this season like I think it’s run its course and maybe there’s a a game or two where

He’ll step up at a high level I don’t think that there’s any Contender that says oh yes Caleb Martin That’s the missing Wing piece we need like I I mean I I just don’t see it I I person there teams I think there’s teams like Dallas like Sacramento that just desperately

Needs some level of perimeter defense and you and I have been low on Caleb Martin’s defense this year because it hasn’t been good but I again two second round picks is is not a lot I mean those things basically grow on trees at this point myamis just use all of them up the

Only reason they have a second round pick the trade right now is because they got one in that Max Drew sinan trade deal with Cleveland that one came over from Cleveland at the 2026 Lakers pick uh in this second round so I don’t know you’re you’re right to the point of who

Knows if they’re going to be able to make that kind of move but I I all I’m saying is I think that that’s something that they are probably exploring at this point you so um we’ll see what happens but what is the latest yeah let’s talk about the

Latest on on ter rir is we’ll talk about that next plus some other trade targets uh that the heat could be looking at uh to make a move sooner rather than later next year on lock on heat today’s episode is brought to you by FanDuel the NFL postseason is

Sure you tune in throughout the week we got games Wednesday night we got games Thursday night we’ll be recapping those for you here on YouTube and on your podcast app also if there’s any movement on the trade front we will have it for you here speaking of the trade front

Speaking of movement on the trade front David some some some Scuttle on the T Rosier thing here um I know that you heard that maybe some things there that that some things are moving within the inner front office workings of the Miami Heat on on ter Rosier yes uh a high

Level of interest in trying to figure out some way of acquiring Terry Rosier and I don’t know if that’s again everything’s subject to change but that’s what we heard and a lot of people heard similarly and so I think it’s just starting to hear much more Buzz about

The the possibility of acquiring a player like Rosier and I know that you’ve debated this before we’ve talked about his fit here in Miami it seems on paper like a good fit like I know that there are people are concerned about you know the the idea of making a

Interdivisional trade or anything like that Charlotte’s not worried about that this isn’t like trying to not not worried about Charlotte either yeah well they’re not they’re not competing against anybody in the Eastern Conference you know it’s like oh we’re gonna do Terry a favor and just send

Them somewhere else and we’re also doing ourselves a favor because we get off of that contract so um right in like the dejonte Murray situation Atlanta and Miami are very much like sort of playoff Rivals they’ve met in the playoffs uh recently like that that to me is

Different and I always said like look I never really thought that Miami’s chances of acquiring dejonte Murray were very high considering that they have to not only beat out other offers but they have to beat it out by a certain amount that the Hawks feel comfortable trading

Them to Miami as opposed to Los Angeles and by the way the latest on dejonte Murray is that the Lakers are sort of the most serious landing spot for Murray they’re offering something like a first round pick pick a pick Swap and the D’Angelo Russell contract Atlanta’s

Trying to find a third team to take on D’Angelo Russell um which just feels like every d’angel Russell trade over the last few years is sort of it’s there’s one first round pick in there some sort of fake contract and then another team trying to get off of

D’angel Russell before they even get him so um whatever but uh and no I don’t think the heat are the right spot for d’angel Russell we could probably just put that to bed right now unless you Allstar one time Allstar on an injury on on an injury uh uh substitution but um

So that’s the latest on jante Murray so that if that’s sort of passed the heat by and by the way Jake fiser our friend here who who joined the program last week reported that there were initial conversations between the Hawks and the heat but then also said like he doesn’t

He hasn’t heard anything since then initial conversations mean what that those conversations ended and they have not been ongoing all right I would be very surprised if if that was something that seriously happened here so if we assume that the Jon Murray thing is is done right then we move on to Terry

Rosier and I think it’s why and by the way I kind of think that ter roir might be a better fit than Deon Murray in terms of what this team needs offensively and we’ve we’ve the driving and the rim pressure and all these things um the contract is comparable to

Dejonte Murray which is why so many teams want dejonte Murray uh it’s a good contract I know that there’s you know people have talked about hey like that last year is only partially guaranteed it’s sort of a fake partial guarantee the difference is like less than $2

Million in that final year the contract is worth like $29 million or 20 or 26 million and then the partial guarantee is 24 million is worth $24 million I think I think it’s 24 and then drops to 22 something like that no it’s the 25 2526

So he’s under contract for this year and then two years after that so in 2526 the contract’s worth total is $26.6 million only the only 24.9 million of that is guaranteed so it’s basically the same amount so it’s not really like this team friendly deal that they can get off

Of in one year because they’ll still have to eat $25 million if they just cut them so that’s not an option so it’s it’s not a Team friendly deal but it’s a good contract and I want to differentiate those two things it’s not Team friendly because the team does not

Have any sort of semblance of control in terms of kind of opting out of it but it is a good contract for a good player in Tera rosier um and so look I think that’s why the heat are seriously considering him yeah I look I I think you’re kind of

Locked into this roster I think there’s also the possibility of other moves too like I mean you get Terry Rosier for this playoff stretch and and the run that you hope the team will make because again as you said the playing tournament might be a realistic possibility and

That being the case you could be oneand done and it doesn’t really matter and you’re kind of stuck with Terry Rosier whatever you give it a shot see how he fits over the next month or two which again another reason why I think it’s imperative that you get a deal done

Sooner rather than later having said that you give him another chance next year and you’ve got something to build on there you’ve got your not necessarily your point guard but a guard a backourt mate that you can kind of initiate offense and create for himself and others he’s a good shooter he attacks

The rim Etc and you’re not necessarily locked into that because I think again there are other possible moves that you can make whether it’s trading Tyler trading I don’t know Jimmy I mean it gives you I know that Barry uh Jackson of the Miami Herald said that the team

Likes their flexibility and so that’s why he doesn’t expect any moves to get done but I I don’t think you’re locked into anything and if you can get a Rosier deal yeah yeah if you could get a Rosier done deal done for relatively cheap without giving up much other than really

The ex the Kyle Lowry contract that you’re eager to move anyway I think you don’t necessarily lock into that idea of flexibility down the road because you have other trade part I remember in the summer of what was it 2016 or when they signed James Johnson

And Kelly o lenck to those equally long Dion maybe that was 2017 it was the 2017 off season kept saying how movable those deals were yeah and and they were and they all got they ultimately were they kind of got lucky in that regard I don’t think that Pat Riley necessarily wants

To back himself into that same Corner again but I look I do think that you make I I think the Rosier deal makes sense as long as like you just said you don’t have to give up too much and what I what do you define by too much I think

A first round pick would be too much I think it would I’m sorry I wouldn’t move first round pick for ter Rosier I wouldn’t do it I don’t know if the heat are gonna do it I wouldn’t do it I wouldn’t move nicovich for ter here

Again I wouldn’t do it I don’t know if the heat wouldn’t do it I would not do it I would not put I wouldn’t put Nico in that deal that’s just me in terms of the flexibility though and when we if we want to talk about the Barry Jackson

Point this is a point he’s made it’s a point that I’ve made in the past if you let Kyle A’s contract expire and you don’t trade him you just let his contract expire and that’s the then that gives you the cap space to resign Caleb Martin potentially before you hit that

Second luxury tax and you have to worry about all that stuff I think the argument that you basically just made indirectly in the first segment David was maybe you don’t need to H maybe you don’t need to resign Caleb Martin maybe he ain’t good enough anymore you know

And I think look I think we’ve seen the worst of Caleb Martin this season I think we’ll see better of Caleb Martin as the season goes on I think he’s dealing with a lot of injury stuff and he’s just sort of recently in over the last couple weeks kind of starting to

Look more like what Caleb Martin is supposed to look like but I would also say frame it like this would you rather have Terry Rosier or Caleb Martin right because if that’s sort of the idea if it’s if if internally if you don’t do anything the trade-off is Kyle

Lowry or Caleb Martin then I think you pick Caleb Martin okay well you can just sort of extrapolate that would you rather have Terry Rosier or Caleb Martin I think that’s a very fair question and I think for this team based on the way that the roster is balanced I think the

Answer would be Tera rier so if it cost you say a cayb Martin who had our friend Jake fiser said still has friends in Charlotte maybe it’s just Lowry and Cayla Martin goes to Charlotte right and a second round pick or something like that and you’re able to get Terry Rosier

Back and maybe there’s another contract in there to make the salaries work blah blah blah I think that’s fair Washington is that is that how it works out um I I would have to look at the trade machine to see that you know I’m not you know me

And my pj Washington I’m not the biggest PJ Washington fan no well in theory point2 if you’re looking at now you got $40 million to Jimmy $40 million to Bam 25 plus million to Tyler hero 2224 million to Terry Rosier $819 million whatever it is to Duncan Robinson that’s

A very expensive roster they probably to make a move to shed some salary in the summer but you could also argue that’s summer Miami Heats problem and not our problem right now let’s go make a run and then figure this thing out later because like you just sort of pointed

Out with Dion and James Johnson this team if you can get off that Dion Waiters and James Johnson contract if you can get off of Hassan white side you can get off of Tay Rosier again if you have to rosier’s a good player it’s not

A bad contract so or or whatever one of these other players that you that you determine that you need to move to to save some money so I don’t know I I’m not that worried about flexibility part it no yeah me neither it’s just it’s so strange that the team just hasn’t

Operated that way in recent years like the exception again you know and I pointed this out in yesterday’s show like three years ago they made their big free agency Splash in acquiring PJ Tucker and Kyle Lowry and it didn’t pan out but since then they just haven’t really made even the smaller Market

Trade I remember asking Pat Riley and his end of seen in press conference like why didn’t you do anything at the tread line maybe something that would have made this team more competitive this year of course that was know after the fact that they made this incredible

Finals run he say well we didn’t really see anything we liked it’s like okay but how much longer can you afford to wait and it’s like all this constant talking point of like we want flexibility we want to keep under the cap we want like it just gets frustrating I think because

It it doesn’t make any sense like you have a chance to win more now and maybe that’s just me kind of being the you know that’s tomorrow’s problem make the most out of today kind of thing and and I think no but that’s what you’re supposed to do that’s what you expect

From the Lakers when you have LeBron James it’s what you expect the Warriors to do when you’ve got Steph Curry and the heat are sort of quietly doing this their own like little two timeline thing where they’re Towing the line and not doing a whole lot of nothing you know

Barry made another point of that too though he said that that’s not ever been a concern from the heat front office about wasting Jimmy’s years I I find that hard to believe and if that’s the case then why the hell not like how much more do you think how much more blood

Are you going to draw from that particular Stone before it grinds into dust like I just don’t know how how you can continue to operate with this idea that we’re going to get max level Jimmy for the next three years when I don’t know that we’re seeing Max Level Jimmy

This it brings up a very interesting question and and if the heat depending on what this trade deadline looks like do they have to ask any even tougher question over the summer we’ll talk about that next year unlock on today’s episode has brought to you by priz picks what’s priz picks what’s

Subscribed already and you are watching on YouTube hit that subscribe button hit that like button comment let us know what you think the heat should do before the trade deadline um before I get to some possible targets here let’s just really quickly explore what we were just

Talking about if you’re not to maximize Jimmy Butler’s Prime and look I think you and I our our job here is to opine and what we’re doing is opining I’m opinion ating do something do something and the reason they haven’t done anything over the last since basically

The Kyle L and PJ Tucker stuff was I I think this team is sort of also I say quietly kind of doing their own two timeline thing I think they’re also kind of quietly doing the daral Mory thing in terms of if it’s not a star player we don’t really care because we

Feel like we can create our own role players inh housee Caleb Martin maxu Gabe Vincent Heywood heith whatever we can create our own role players we don’t need to trade for role players and the difference between our role players and your role players isn’t enough for us to

Come off of any assets that could potentially cost us a chance to go get that Superstar so they have been in Superstar or bust mode for the last couple of seasons and I think that’s sort of why they haven’t made those marginal moves I think it’s gotten to

The point now where that marginal move is so is is needed now more than ever in part because everybody else has gotten so good but all the also the stuff we talked about in the first segment it just feels like something’s got to change and if it’s just moving

Deck chairs sometimes moving deck chairs refreshes it moving the furniture around refreshes the space sometimes sometimes you just feel a little bit better walking into that room and there could be something said to be just sort of rearranging your furniture a little bit right so yeah you a little locker room

Funu there you know kind of get bring some new air get some new energy in there like I you know if that’s if that’s the if that’s the idea that they’re operating under that well we can always groom our own well who’s the next player that’s going to take that leap

Because I don’t know that he’s on the roster right now and if you’re looking for you know something to shore up the big man rotation I guess it’s Orlando Robinson and as high as we were on him he just doesn’t seem to be able to crack the rotation he’s not getting play time

Well the other thing too is Gabe Vincent walked out the door you thought Drew Smith might be that guy Drew Smith gets hurt like there’s no Gabe there’s no Gabe Vincent on this roster that makes the point guard situation less problematic it’s only Kyle Lowry now

Kyle lry lost his job last year right he only got the job by default this year so I I think the moves need to be made and if a move isn’t made again don’t want to spend a ton of time on this because it’s a whole other show that we could do

David but like I think the option of trading Jimmy Butler in the offseason before that before you have to even have contract extension talks could very well be on the table if this team Flames out and it you look around and you’re like a tera Rosier and a PJ Washington or a

Dory infiny Smith or whatever if that if that’s not going to get us to the level of Milwaukee Boston Indiana New York Cleveland if that’s not going to do it then what are we really doing if we’re not going to make those marginal moves and that big swing isn’t out there I’m

Just saying and I don’t again we don’t we could go quick on this but like I’m not reporting anything it just sort of has to be on the table if you’re Miami I’m not gonna entertain that discussion right now it’s not like let’s talk about there you

Go just threw me under the there there’s just too much no no no no no no not at all it’s just it’s it’s a it’s a a point and I know that even like casually fans mention that it’s like oh what’s going on like I I find it so hard to see other

Fans even pseudo media members of other franchises and be very open to the idea of just blowing things up and and just kind of going you know what suck for the next two years and do this and that and just like lean into a youth movement stuff like that and this heat franchise

Is never goingon to do that so I understand that there’s the idea the notion of saying you know what if you can’t go this far with his current big three quote unquote big three because maybe the players don’t compliment each other very well then you have to at least start exploring the possibility

Yes I get it it is a talking point and it is a valid one but right now there is just so many other things going on right now with this roster there’s a trade deadline coming up and they’re not moving Jimmy Butler before the trade deadline they’re not moving Jimmy Butler

The next three week you maximiz you’re right you’re right you and that it if they get if they get beat if they get eliminated in The playing tournament then we’ll have that conversation and will be a legitimate and that’s what you have to try to avoid between now and the

Trad deadline you have to do something that helps you avoid that sort of Fate later this season so let’s talk about some targets really quick before we sign off here we already mentioned Terry Rosier he’s in the top of my list if that doesn’t work out I think the reason

To I I think the reason Washington keeps coming up is because if you look at tyus Jones he’s a good player he’s sort of like Kyle Lowry but 10 years younger he’s kind of got the same sort of game that Kyle Lowry did he’s averaging twice

As many points as Kyle Lowry which is crazy um he’s shooting like 45 sure and it’s also Kyle lry he’s shooting 45% from three-point range um he’s a good player I like tyus Jones a lot I don’t know that he solves all of Miami’s problems but he’d be an upgrade he’d be

A helpful player at this at in the back court and I guess if you’re just looking for marginal that’s sort of the definition of marginal helpful you know it’s sort of a synonym so um tus Jones and like a Landry shamut kind of contract and when you want to talk about

Team friendly that’s a Team friendly contract you basically he’s it’s like $2 million it is guaranteed next year he trade it a million times yeah I’m not saying he’d be helpful you just need him in there for salary cap purposes you just grab him and then you can wave them

Or flip them or whatever you just you got to have another salary in there um Ian I mentioned Daniel Gafford in yesterday’s show and you and I were another name that works that works uh salary cap wise I don’t know what reporting from Mark Stein is saying like

They’re looking for a first round pick for tus Jones and a first- round pick for Daniel Gafford oh that’s ridiculous it’s not gonna happen but if if I think if you’re Miami you ask for you if you’re Miami you ask for Jones and gaffard and if you have to settle for

Jones and shamut I think that both of those options would be fine if you’re Miami and it keeps your long-term flexibility right in either case a little bit more with the shamut contract because you can just get out of it gafford’s under contract so I don’t know

It depends on how much Miami values the flexibility of that and what they view of Gafford and all those things but those would be the Washington options and I think those are real options that could be considered strongly between now and the trade deadline um another name

That you and I have sort of batted around Dennis Smith Jr yes you know what I found out that’s interesting about him same agent is Bam atab bio they’re friends like they’re very close friends same agent you can work that one real easy I think he’s making

$3 million right now for Brooklyn is that sort of a I I don’t really know what that is is that a like a hey you’re going nowhere fast Brooklyn could we interest you in a second round pick just for fun here’s Thomas Bryant one of you know Thomas Bryant a second round pick

Like you’re not doing anything with Smith Jor he’s a he’s a free agent after the year you’re going to have to pay him we’ll take that problem off your hands maybe that’s something yeah you know you screwed us over in a KD situation Sean you know you’ve got close friends to you

Close relationship with Pat Riley can you hook us up like I mean I’ve said this before Denis Smith Jr he was like this close to signing with Miami and I liked to sign with the Charlotte Hornets instead and then W up having a Charlotte Hornets kind of season so uh you know he

He was expecting big things in Brooklyn and it’s just obviously that hasn’t P panned out either so if he gets a chance to play with bam here like you’re not getting the scoring punch that you desperately need so another secondary move is still something you’re gonna have to consider whether it’s moving

Caleb Martin or somebody else but you’re gonna have to do something else to show her up your lack of scoring but your point attack defense on the point guard position that’s certainly one of the best in the league yes yeah Dennis SP J like one show that yes it’s the metrics

And you just watch him he’s the guy’s crazy like he fights over every screen he he was training to play football and it shows right when he was out of the league a couple years ago he’s super athletic um and and you mentioned the fact that

He he Miami and Dennis Smith Jr have circled each other quite a bit over the last couple years nothing was really happening in the backourt front for Miami this summer because they were waiting on the Damen Lillard situation to play out I bet you Dennis Smith Jr

Would love to play in Miami they got the same connection J Cole Karan Butler I just I wish it was a better rapper that was connected to the Miami Heat um all right so the last one I have here I just got to throw every time you mention

J.Cole I got to throw a little dig at him for for the people who hate me um one L of the name Dante exom I know he’s got his health problems but I don’t think it would cost a ton I threw this out to Nick angat who who uh hosts

Lockon Mavericks for us for the network I said what would you if Miami called and offered Caleb Martin for Dante XOM what would Dallas say and he said he said I think they would say yes to that and I bet Miami could get another second round pick or

Two out of that deal if they needed it it’s it’s again it’s like kind of both teams solving different problems Miami needs to shore up some of their depth in the back court they maybe have too many wings right now Dallas might be maybe has too many guards but they need some

Wing Defenders there it kind of is like hey we’ll we’ll take your problem for our problem type of thing we’ll help solve each other’s problems and and again xom’s contract is um is expired at the end of the year I don’t think that there’s any bird rights attached to it

Because he just came back from coming overseas uh Dallas would acquire Caleb martin bird right so I think for all of that it would be worth another second round pick or two and then again you can use those couple round picks maybe to move in that Kyle Larry deal separately

Over here to go make some sort of other upgrade not because I think you could bring in Dante XM and ter rir and I think that would be helpful I think you bring both of them in Dante axom has really stood out as a perimeter Defender he’s a streaky shooter but that

Three-point shot is much better than the last time he was in the NBA even though it’s streaky streaky is better than what it was um he’s you know the health problems are definitely a concern it’s why it’s not like the the end all Beall solution but I think it’d be

Helpful just an option good this year consistent but good yeah no doubt all right those are more names you know I’m going to have more names as these as the trade season goes on you know I love to play with the trade machine and talk to people and figure things out but well

Hopefully we won’t have to because hopefully they’ll get a deal done within the next couple of days I hope so maybe by the time people even hear this podcast something will get done who knows no yeah probably all the EX all the the whole front office is going to be uh at

A that’s true they’re going to be at gala in like two hours so phones yeah yeah if Pat Ry walks out of the Gallow we’ll let you know and doesn’t return back comes back to the open bar and just starts chugging whiskies celebrator maybe pops a bottle of

  1. Please trade Herro. We are 12-7 without him with 114.6 points per game. With Herro we are a mediocre 12-12 with 107.9 points per game. Our win streaks from the playoffs are games without him. Our longest win streak this season are the games without him. Nikola and Jaime are the future with Bam. Not Herro. It makes me sad to see my favorite team like this.

  2. Yes they have to this week and We are not trading Herro, JJJ and Duncan Robinson. Kyle Lowry and N. Jovic will be traded this week. Dejounte Murray will come to Miami Heat this week as a trade.

  3. Every post game “they look too small against team X”

Solution: “let’s get a small point guard”

    …. SMH

  4. I hate to say this but I think this may be Jimmy’s last year with being being able to get us to the Finals. He seems like he’s not into the games, not Heat like at all.

  5. Spo is trying to keep Tyler happy by keeping him in the starting lineup, When it's obvious the team is better with Duncan starting.

  6. Hornets value Rozier probably more than the Heat do. Terry is having the third highest scoring average in team history, fwiw.

  7. I agree with Wes. I feel like a lot of heat fans are jimmy butler fans rather than heat fans now. I guarantee if someone said “You are guaranteed to win a championship but you’d have to trade jimmy” (like the derozan kawhi trade)SOME ppl would be like “i wanna win jimmy his ring tho🥺”

  8. Butler has been worse than Bam and Herro. Can't wait for him to wanna just play in the playoffs. That and team health has been the problem. Trading Herro solves nothing unless Mitchell level talent is made available.

  9. Trade Herro, he puts up points but not winning team basketball. He’s a 6th man ( Jamal Crawford ) type of player but has forced them to start him. Trade Lowry, he’s a good vet to have but not for 30 milly. Everyone except JJJ, Himmy, and Bam should be on the block. Team can’t compete with all these more talented, athletic, bigger, just straight up better teams. I love the heat will continue to watch but damn they can’t keep this same team.

  10. Trade Rotation Spoelstra he is overrated he plays player's out of their position like Bam is a power forward we need to get a big time Center and a point guard they gave Spo all that money 💰 for what and he can't COACH period look how their losing un predictable

  11. There is a high level of urgency. The Celtics and the Bucks were already better than the Heat (despite us going to the finals) and they made big trades to get better. The Knicks and Pacers are now better than the Heat, because they made trades. The Heat make boneheaded moves (overpaying Duncan Robinson, and the Lowry trade), and to add insult to injury they fall in love with their Culture (which makes them unattractive to many really good free agents).

  12. Miami can get Rozier easily as long as they don't get cheap or cute (like they were when they tried to get Dame for nothing or when Riley ran Lebron out of town when he wanted Lebron to take a pay cut).

  13. We should get lauri markenen!!! He’s 7 ft tall, can play power forward the way we need him to , solves the never ending power forward problem and size in the front court problem , and is young on a low salary !!!!

  14. This is the turning point of the Jimmy window. If they truly want to give him a chance @ the chip they go out & get a guard/other parts.

Stop w the failed whale hunting every offseason and support the “big fish” you have in house…

  15. David brutally undervalues Caleb…😢 Caleb is definitely equivalent to a two 2nd round picks or a late 1st round pick, the dude is legit a playoffs performer. I can give ten to twenty 1st round picks that can't even contribute during the playoffs and Caleb was "almost" the ECF MVP against the Celtics so yeah, either a late 1st round pick or two 2nd round picks for Caleb.

  16. We have these conversations every year yet we have made finals twice, eastern conference 3 times and the one time we got taken out in first round it was to the future NBA champs. Crazy deja vu. I do think we need someone to beat people off the dribble though. Team is very unathletic.
