The Toronto Raptors broke Immanuel Quickley

The Toronto Raptors broke Immanuel Quickley

What is going on with Emanuel quickle you know when the Toronto Raptors traded for Emanuel quickly I studied a lot of Emanuel quickly tape from New York was very familiar with his game but got a little bit more familiarized with his game trying to map out his strengths and

His weaknesses and I got to tell you the player that has showed up to Toronto is different is this a problem not really we’re going to talk about it you got a manual quickly the Nick IQ Manny quick and you got a manual quickly the Raptor

But in terms of the numbers they are very very different players take a look at the numbers right I’m granted it’s 12 games but it’s not two games right it’s not like judging pcal cakam Pacer debut the scoring is down per 100 possessions you would think it would be up right

Like clearly you would think it would be up like you’re not playing with Julius Randle you’re not playing with Jaylen Brunson you’re playing with and you’re still playing with RJ Barrett I mean Scotty Barnes is a very willing passer how the hell is it that the scoring is

Down I mean you are effectively in a much much faster paced offense motion offense that’s creating much cleaner open shots so how is it that you’re scoring less per 100 possessions is a question I think is worth asking he’s dip from 30.8 to 25.4 I mean free throw attempts are down

Uh two point attempts are down three point attempts are down from 11 to n uh threo percentage is weirdly enough up with the Raptors across 12 games but his 2% percentage is in the dumps and I think we need to talk about just what’s happened to his twoo percentage because

Going from 50.9 to 38% is a pretty big dip free throw percentage is pretty much held even right but there’s just a lot of stuff right rebounds gone up assists have gone up blocks have gone up right turnovers are around the same everyone wants to complain about his turnovers but really

The question is when the Raptors traded for manual quickly the thought process was that this was going to be an expansion of a role right I mean I think we all remember when we first saw him I think we all remember that open gym episode where Messiah jury is talking to

Scott you know Emanuel quickley and is like you and Scotty Barnes you know I think a lot of uh Canadian fans maybe they were justifiably or unjustifiably a little bit peeved that people kept calling this the Emanuel quickly trade right but a lot of very very smart

People believed that if you look at the analytics here with the Knicks every year positive boxes minus do you know how hard that is to do as a rookie come in and have a 0.9 B boxes minus sophomore 0.2 like he’s been positive every single year and playing fewer

Minutes in New York earlier this year there were some trends that were suggesting that he was about to go off and so if you had told me that his Raptor henard 12 games in would have resulted in a 3.4 3.6 boxes minus I would have been like yep could have seen

That coming but Flash in negative box minus for the first time that I did not see coming in terms of his you know if you look at the bottom the advanced numbers his usage is down with Toronto does that shock you shocks me wi shares per 48 down assist percentage way up he

Is much much closer to that seconde role now I want you to look at something very interesting that happened in that second year do you notice A disruption to his analytics look at it 0.9 0.2 1.7 what the hell happened there that was a dip you can call it a sophomore dip but

That that that year was different it was his highest turnover year it was his highest assist percentage year and it sticks out like a sore thumb to me because it’s an outlier everything about that season was an outlier right look at it just look at it like right there that

Second line assist percentage 24% he never touched 20 again and that was not a small sample size that was 78 games one 1,800 minutes and it seems like the Knicks tried to do what the Raptors are trying to do right now which is I think they tried to make Emanuel quickly a point

Guard and he struggled and a few years later right now the Toronto Raptors are trying to do the same thing they’re doing this across the roster and I think it’s really impressive to just see how the team is doing this now look at his shot chart here this is manual

Quickly I think this is a good way to look at Players you kind of see their strengths and weaknesses you see I mean this is not complete you can’t you can’t see how many of these shots are unassisted assisted you can’t see exactly what what is happening on the

Court but you can see where guys are effective and ineffective Manel quickly for his all his strengths above the break is is very ineffective from the corners and very ineffective the closer it’s almost like this guy the closer he gets to the basket the worse he gets there’s only

One in between that he has and that’s that floater range he has like yeah it’s like he has to be like eight feet away from the basket or 25 feet away from the basket if he’s 22 feet away from the basket can’t make it if he’s two feet

Away from the basket can’t make it so for the Toronto Raptors a team that believed in him so much that they passed up on the Atlanta Hawks offer allegedly right the Atlanta Hawks um I mean that’s that’s neither here nor there I mean obviously with one of OG

And Pascal they were going to get picks with the other they were going to get young players right it was very unlikely they were going to get young players and picks for like young players for both guys so that’s where I heard the reporting was that they got AEM manual

Quickly they believe in Emanual quickly they didn’t feel such a strong need to push for young prospects like Ben Shepard and Andrew nart Etc or Benedict mathin or jarus Walker in the Pascal deal because they kind of got their guy and I think if you’re looking at

This game you know you’re seeing you’re seeing a guy who’s struggling I mean yesterday against jiren Jackson and and the Memphis Grizzlies this is a guy who struggled like really hard I mean he was turning the ball over left and right I mean there’s there’s like tons like go

To go to Twitter right now it’s like he’s a meme right now right and this is not the player we really saw in New York I mean I’ve seen him struggle in New York the second year slump there was a struggle there the playoffs seen a lot

Of struggles there man trust me like when we traded for him I devoted a day to just watching everything I could have missed about it anual quickly and I’m telling you the Raptors have totally totally forced him into a role that the Knicks weren’t playing him now obviously

It’s worth noting when you’re a player like manual quickly and you need need space and you can’t always create the space by yourself and you’re drawing all these comparisons to tyres Maxi Etc it’s worth noting who’s creating space for you playing with players who are better

Is going to draw away Defenders from you it’s going to allow you to attack right you have not seen tyres Maxi really play a lot of games without Joel embiid but go and check the games that he’s played Without Joel embiid he’s not doing this by himself right no player is going to

Do it by themselves there aren’t a ton of Michael Jordans LeBron James or whatever like those are the guys that can really legitimately bring you to 25 wins by themselves no matter who you put around them they’re going to get you to 25 wins but emanu quickle is not LeBron

James Scotty Barnes is not LeBron James RJ Barrett is not LeBron James none of these guys are LeBron and so basically they’re gonna have to work together I think that if you’re looking at Emanuel quickley game and you wanted to force him into his strengths right now you probably having a pretty solid

Season with the Raptors you might even win a few more games the problem for the Raptors is they it’s not really a problem really it’s it’s their coaching staff they don’t do that they put you into positions that you need to be in not positions that you’re comfortable

With not positions that you want to be in no emanu Quickly’s first game with the Raptors if you remember that game all the skipping and all that stuff it was beautiful it was beautiful he looked awesome I think there was a couple games down the line and then suddenly everyone’s

Like whoa why why is he taking crazy shots and he’s taking so many shots and now the question is he doesn’t he’s not taking enough shots dark was like oh I need to make him more aggressive I need to get him nine 10 10 threes Etc and

He’s passing up shots and so you’re disrupting you’re disrupting patterns right and when you do that for a basketball player they get really confused and it can disrupt Rhythm and a player can sort of start questioning themselves and I don’t mean questioning themselves in an existential long-term

Form no no no they can start questioning what am I supposed to do here what is this the wrong thing instead of just playing and this is a good thing it’s a necessary thing you do need players at some point to go through this you ideally do this in the summer the

Raptors are doing it now and not a lot of people would do it right now and I tell you like not a lot of people would do it right now this would be like saying Scotty Barnes you need to work on your left hand and then saying we’re

Going to set you up so that you’re going left every time and you’re going to miss like every shot you take or trying to adjust the guy’s jumper mid game or mid-season or trying to put a guy on the corners when he’s really really good from above the break do you see what

They’re doing with Grady dick right now if I showed you Grady Dick’s shot chart in Kansas it’s like bomb above the break like he’s awesome above the break why do he make him a corner shooter it doesn’t help him but doesn’t it he’s weak from there they’re forcing him into his

Weakness they’re forcing him to defend that’s not his strength you know Scotty Barnes point of attack why is Scotty Barnes a point of attack Defender guess what bball index has a proprietary um defensive metric called defense of LeBron Scotty Barnes is the seventh best point of attack Defender according to

Their metric now not according to me according to their metrics so I’m trying to say here Darko has maintained from the beginning this is not this is not about this season this is about setting up for next season now there are a lot of coaches that say that every coach in the

World would probably who’s losing right now would tell you it’s not about this season we’re building for the future my question is what are you building what are you building you ever um you ever uh heard the story of Three Little Pigs right I think there was one that built

Buil built a house of straw right like I don’t remember that story exactly but I think the wolf came and blew it all down or something like that and then eventually there was the one who decided to go Brick by Brick right Brick by Brick is going to take

Longer standing up a mud hut takes less time takes less effort takes less resources takes less money this Brick by Brick approach that Darko is taking to where it’s breaking guys games down to a very granular level like a very granular level like Scotty Barnes you know the

Point of attack defense Scotty Barnes pinch post stuff uh getting him passing if they identify right now that Scotty Barnes is a weaker pass with his left hand than his right hand I guarantee you at some point this season you’re going to see a game where he he’s only passing

With his left hand just to develop it as a person who’s obsessed with development as a person who when he played 2K would play his players 22 minutes in order to ramp up all their training so that they could be better three years from now Darko rakovich is a

Coach built after my own heart okay really truly now obviously it’s going to be harder to develop if you’re not in games you can’t just go out there and you know try to you can’t go out there and blindfold your players and say you know Mr Miyagi waack on wax off go and

Figure it out right you can’t do that you have to be in competitive games it helps it would be very beneficial if the Raptors could make the play in it really would okay but getting these guys to adjust their weaknesses getting RJ to be a better passer you know I had a friend

Um sorry that’s that’s a lie it’s a family member she’s a she’s my aunt and she was not a big RJ fan and she’s currently in Japan right now and we were talking the other day and she said she’s like uh how’s he doing cuz he looks much

Better than he did here and I’m like doesn’t he like she was not a fan of his but seriously if you look at RJ’s numbers Nicks versus here oh my God it’s night and day I mean we’ll do a video about it at some point once there’s like

A bigger sample size but he’s turned around his career in a very significant way if he keeps this up he’s been almost positive every single night if not every other night like he’s been great jonte Porter I mean this is a guy who was in the G League like and starting games I

Mean it’s not always perfect but if these guys are all 10% 15% better next year how much better are you I mean how do you think you know everyone talks about the players the Raptors drafted Norman po they drafted Norman pal they drafted Fred vanet they drafted

Pascal SE hakum they drafted OG an anobi and they act like the Raptors forgot how to draft I disagree very strongly the Raptors did not forget how to draft the Raptors forgot how to develop this is how you develop now the Raptors obviously being a competitive team they

Did a lot of what they’re doing right now with the main club they did it with the 905 they did it with Pascal seak it didn’t always work he put Bruno in the 905 it didn’t work or did he did he go to 905 I think I think you know what I

Think Bruno was the reason the 95 existed if I’m not mistaken what ended up happening was at some point I believe the Raptors didn’t have their own team they had to send them down to some other team and they were just like never again never again we need to have our own

Development team and then they pushed for it I believe if I’m not mistaken I believe that’s what happened I think Bruno was the straw that broke the camels back so what are you watching you’re watching the Toronto Raptors 905 Edition basically in a nutshell in a lot

Of ways you know I’m not saying they’re not trying to win games of course they’re trying to win games but not at the expense of development not at the expense of development and look running Dennis Schroeder out there for 35 minutes to some extent it’s at the expense of

Development now obviously you’re going to play guys like Jaylen McDaniels you’re gon to play like play guys like Otto Porter Thaddius young yaka purle uh Janis schroer you can’t just play a whole bunch of kids and tank the value of the guys that you have you also don’t

Want to be sing that message to the kids either they need to have guys who can set them up and play with them and teach them while they’re on the court but this was always the plan this has always been the plan I mean read the tea leaves you

Brought back JN Mala and your head coach is Darko freaking rakovich of course this is the plan what I’m very happy about is that the plan is to build bricks right it’s not to build a mud hut it’s not to you know do anything

Possible to win right now no no no no no you’re getting data of course but you’re getting reps you’re getting real Reps for your core Grady dick last night was not your best option to close the game for sure he’s a rookie how could he be

Your best option to close the game what did Darko say after the game he said I wanted to get him the Reps right now Emanuel quickly is not your best option to set up your offense Dennis Schroeder is definitely more skilled and capable of doing it he he’s not a better shooter

For sure but he’s more capable of running your playbook he knows your playbook better he’s a more experienced player so wouldn’t it make sense if you were trying to win games right now to start a backourt instead of Emanuel quickley and Gary Trent wouldn’t it be

Better to start a back court of Dennis Schroeder and Emanuel quickley put Emanuel quickle at two sure you’ll lose some games but at the very least your offense won’t look super disorganized well that’s the point at some point IQ has got to have to learn how to do this now

I’m not saying he’s your long-term you know TBL Setter but this is a skill you want him to have this is not a vision into how the Raptors are going to play next year clearly I see Scotty Barnes having a lot more initiation responsibilities in the offense next year but Scotty is not

Someone who’s necessarily going to struggle to set up the offense like he he’s okay he he needs his reps too don’t get me wrong and they’re definitely taking turns you can see sometimes one guy’s bringing it up sometimes the other guy’s bringing it up you know we’ve seen a lot of that but

Emanuel quickly cannot be thrown to the to the dirt and said okay this is what you do so you’re G to do that for us no break down his game this is a guy who has several holes in his game Corner shooting is a hole okay I’ll tell you

What else is a hole mid-range shooting that’s a hole you know he doesn’t have a lot of in between stuff right the Knicks were trying to develop him like a role player the Raptors are trying to develop him like a star it’s a completely different trajectory I do want to

Mention it is worth noting playing against bench players and playing against starters is a little bit different it’s going to hurt your impact metrics a little bit if you’re playing against Stars every single night if you’re the guy that teams are chasing off the line if you’re the guy that’s

Getting blitzed with the double teams it’s going to matter that you know the guy setting a screen for you as status young as opposed to Isaiah hardenstein or Mitchell Robinson it’s going to matter that you have jayen Brunson next to you or you don’t all these things are

Going to matter they’re throwing Emanuel quickly into the fire bonus his numbers are going to suffer bonus you might get him cheaper I’m just throwing that out there that might be a good thing for the Raptors not having to pay manual quickly $30 million this year

If you just let him go and do whatever the hell he wants and you start winning games there was a very good chance if he continued on the trajectory where he was the first two three games with with the Raptors that maybe he was going to be commanding 28 to $30

Million right now he’s struggling the numbers are obvious but what I’m trying to tell Raptor fans is chill relax he’s going to be fine he’s a super hard worker he talks about that book chop wood carry water carry water chop wood chop wood carry water something like that

Um this notion of repetitive movement the notion of sticking to things you know when you get players who love basketball bball you know people often accuse me of being crazy for psychoanalyzing players too much I try to read into that but truth is I’m also

The guy who made the real the day before free agency to tell you the FED family was going to Houston right I’m also the guy who was telling you weeks before if you followed me on Facebook that Scotty Mars was going to be the Raptor’s draft pick it does help

To understand who people are it understand it helps to understand where they’re coming from where they’re approaching basketball from what’s their basketball philosophy what’s their life philosophy Manu quickley is a worker he’s always been a worker problem is with the Knicks he was working on being an efficient and intelligent role player

The Raptors saw in Emanuel quickley something different they didn’t see Jaylen brunson’s backup they didn’t see Vinnie Johnson they didn’t see Jamal Crawford they didn’t see Lou Williams they saw a star guard and you know what Emanuel quickly sees a star guard so when he came here the conversation was

Clear we see in you what you see in you do you trust us to get you there and maybe right away he didn’t but right now he’s looking at his game and there’s a lot of holes the corner shooting reading reading the defense passing he’s not

He’s not a natural point guard can you make him more natural maybe you don’t make him a natural point guard but can you make him a better decision maker in the half court can you make him a better passer just can you can you brush up a a

Little bit his his reading of the floor and how he sets up his teammates how can this ever be a bad thing even if longterm your goal is to have him coming off of screens and being more of a combo guard in your offense more like a Jamal

Murray type getting down hill even if that’s not the end of the goal like it’s always going to be valuable to have this guy be able to play one for you right like maybe maybe he becomes the guy who gets the first breath right and you’re starting lineup and then Scotty plays

The rest of it with RJ and then he’s the guy who comes back and carries the bench unit as the table setting point guard and scores a bunch of points and sets up everybody do you know what I mean like the minute he can expand his three level

Scoring and his passing your entire team’s Dynamic becomes so much more diverse because he is one of your three guys going forward I guarantee it like there’s no way in hell you pass up on all the deals you make a deal with the Devil Himself with the New York Knicks

The Raptors do not like the Knicks mentioned this 150 times the fact that they made this deal with the Knicks I mean apart from the obvious conspiracy of like OG and anobi coming back it’s clear to me they valued Emanuel quickly they valued him more than two first

Round draft picks that’s a lot of value okay so much so they pushed for him over two first round picks like the Knicks had to be cajoled and pushed into that because initially you know who else liked manual quickly the Atlanta Hawks he was the centerpiece in a trade that

Was going to be for dejonte Murray who’s a former Allstar who’s not that much older than Emanuel quickley think Deon is what 27 Emanuel quickley is 24 that’s how teams saw Emanuel quickley to the point where the Athletics I believe s Vini called this trade the Emanuel quickly

Trade he said it’s not even the OG and anobi trade that’s how highly people saw him so please understand the Raptors did not bring Emanuel quickley into be anyone’s back up okay they didn’t bring him into to be anything they brought him into to be a 25 Point per game type of

Microwave not microwave microwave has a bad connotation plus microwave microwaves are terrible for you they brought him into to be an All-Star man I think they really see an All-Star in this guy I certainly see an All-Star in Emanuel quickly but of course as I mentioned there are holes one of the

Biggest holes he stopped short this is something I’ve talked about I think I talked about with sill the other day um he just stopped short like he has um he doesn’t get all the way to basket now last night you saw it against this Behemoth he went relentlessly to the rim

To the rim to the rim every single time he wasn’t stopping short and he missed and he missed and he missed and that’s going to hurt your analytics because the analytics this is why people don’t like analytics some people don’t like analytics they don’t care they don’t

Care that you’re trying new things they don’t care that your coach is forcing you to go with your left hand they don’t care don’t care that you’re implementing new offense they just care is what you’re doing resulting in more points or less points that’s really in a nutshell

What analytics are and missing layups bad turnovers bad rebounds good analytics are very simple and people make them way too complicated they’re not and right now his analytics profile looks horrible and that’s going to hurt his market value but you know what it’s going to help it’s going to help the

Type of player he’s going to be next year and the year going forward I think the Raptors have a really good one make sure to hit like And subscribe guess what I have a feeling when I end this video I’m going to find out that we just

Pendance passes: www.filmfreeway.com/Pendance/Tickets

What they have right now is a player who is lost in the offense, who is slipping on defense, doing things he hasn’t done in ages, and a player who is posting a negative BPM for the first time in his NBA career.

Yes, it’s part of the plan. Yes, it’s ugly. Yes, I support it. Let’s talk about it.

  1. It’s all part of the plan. Tank to get our pick back. Get Nikola topic. 6’6 point guard from Serbia. Very smart player. He will be great with Scottie / IQ / RJ. Then we just need our 7’ center. Oh wait. He’s in tbjs draft potentially to. Filopovic. I so spelt that wrong. 7’ 245 stretch big. Shooting 42% from 3. Open up the inside for RJ and Scottie / topic. Allow them to work. It’s all making sense. Topic is projected 1-4. Filopovic is projected 8-12. So we may need to bundle the picks to move up and grab him. Oh and we need a lot of lottery luck. But it’s POSSIBLE

  2. 10:20. As a Knicks fan they did this with rj and it absolutely killed his finishing stats. Ran a lot of left wing clear out isos for randke and Brunson and rj would have to attack right or launch 3s with no spacing

  3. I love IQ but god that push shot he needs to let that go man can he figure out another way to score besides the push shot or floater?

  4. R'nR Offense- the more complete your players are the harder it is to defend, doing this in season is impressive to have the trust of pro players in contract years. IQ is a character guy, trusts the process will make him better.
This will be ugly and chaotic basketball in the learning stage.
2 steps back to leap forward!!

  5. Cody Williams is projected 6-10 to. He’s Jalen Williams brother. Jaylin Williams from the okc. Her shooting almost 50% from 3. This draft is not as weak as everyone says. There is talent.

  6. Im starting to think that deal/trade really was about unlocking RJ! He looks like he is on a mission. You can see it in his face… ❤

  7. Seems like Quickley cannot create advantages in the halfcourt and doesn't have his Hartenstein(Poeltl) to create space for him to get good looks in the offense..

  8. What I can theorize about his 2 point percentage is having watched him as a Knick fan for years, many of his 2 pointers are off of floaters, and perhaps with Randle and Brunson drawing the defenses toward themselves, IQ had wider lanes and floor spacing to work the seams, whereas in Toronto opposing defenses will collapse on him faster, since there's not yet 2 huge threats to occupy the defense. We had a similar situation in NY with Randle, as he played much worse without Brunson, as defenses could double and triple him, now with Brunson there, with his magnetism, Julius can freely work the paint and dump off if he's doubled. Huge difference in his game.

  9. Good Morning! Congrats on 8k Rob 🎉, best Raptors YouTube channel out there. The future looking bright, not only for the Raptors but for @Pensare Basketball. The road to 10k about to hit different. 💯😤

  10. Great video! Players get to the league, and they basically stop developing. In the regular season, you can get away with being 1 dimensional, but as soon as there is a game plan, the team gets screwed. Look at James Harden. It's not only that he can't score going right. His entire team is out of sorts. They're asked to do more and score from different spots on the floor, and they can't.

  11. They are tanking the season, Darko is experimenting with set plays & players. Hopefully we can land a top 6 draft otherwise it goes to San Antonio

  12. IQ’s floater and finishing at the rim hasn’t been great at all. He was horrible yesterday and didn’t play well against the Knicks.

I don’t know if he’s a true point guard, we need him hitting his 3s and secondary creating.

After last nights game, moral is low.

  13. ROB 🙏 Truly appreciate your insights into the game. I’ll be celebrating my 80th birthday next year, and love the game! I have been trying to improve my understanding of which stats can help one see strengths and weaknesses, tendencies… An observation (suggestion🙂): when you put up some stats on the screen @1:401:50, I find it difficult to see exactly where on the chart you are referring to. By the time I find it, you are on to another stat. It would help me, I think, if you used your cursor to roughly circle the area where I should focus. Wish you continued success on this adventure and your film festival.

  14. How long do you think IQ will be willing to sacrifice dollars for long term development? His next contract is important to him as he’s made clear. Do you think he and the Raptors have a basic understanding of his next contract already? Otherwise I could see this going south.

    Congrats on 8k

  15. People need to give this young core time. IQ, RJ Scottie need to improve their game during the offseason. IQ needs to gain strength to improve his finishing and defense. His passing will come with reps and experience.

  16. Great content! You provide great insight into the basketball scene and the Raptors. It would be extraordinary if you could time stamp your streams. I envision links to players and topics that can be made into shortened releases with thumbnails to draw audiences that want the content but don’t have the time. You could also narrate your own clips to provide a bigger picture. Could also use clips for a narrated Serbian version. Thanks

  17. Just chill out people. The Raptors have a lot of negative energy right now because half the team is on the trade block and they traded two major players. Quickly + Barnes will be better after the deadline when the roster is locked in and the negative energy is out of the locker room. It’s not toxic energy like Van Vleet + Siakim + Nurse created last season. This is to be expected when half the team will probably be traded and they have zero idea where they will be spending the 4-6 month or year and a half in Boucher or Schroder case.

  18. Patience is the key with this young core. We have to reassess this time next year to evaluate if there is tangible progress.
