Draymond Green on Mathurin – (@AlexGoldenNBA)

Alex Golden tweeted this earlier and I thought you might enjoy reading it.

Draymond Green on the Pacers:

“Whether they (Indiana) can ultimately push this thing to where we all want to go, the key to that is…BENNEDICT MATHURIN.

That kid I think has a great deal of potential. He’s a go getter. He’s not soft at all. You ain’t bullying him, he ain’t backing down. He can shoot it well enough…he can handle it, he’s pretty athletic…Bennedict Mathurin is the key to that team.

I love his potential. I love that draft pick for the Pacers and I think he’s on a good trajectory. It doesn’t happen overnight. That’s a part of the growth, that’s a part of getting young guys and grooming them. But what Bennedict Mathurin can become will decide ultimately what that franchise can become.”

Draymond continues:

“Tyrese is great, he’s one of the better point guards in this league for sure. Pascal Siakam: champion, All-NBA, All-Star. Myles Turner is a great rim protector, knock the 3 down, athletic, will finish on you. Buddy, we know Buddy’s shooting it…but Bennedict Mathurin is the key. His growth will ultimately determine how far the Indiana Pacers can take it.”

Damn Draymond has a take I agree with who’d’ve thought

I lived in SF for Draymond’s whole career and I’ve heard him talk about the game a lot. He’s incredibly intelligent about the game and the Xs-and-Os brain stuff. His emotions and personality are another thing, but he knows what he’s talking about.

i remember Draymond tooooorch the Hoosiers and thought “man the Pacers should draft this guy he’s exactly what we need” and draft day comes and we pass on him… (it was either the Plumlee or Solomon Hill draft iirc)

he’s a very intelligent guy and off court he seems so poised and charming, it makes me hate that leaned into being a heel so much. but i can’t argue with the results in terms of his career. nonetheless draymond has done and said some dumb shit and taken things too far too many times on court.

respect the take from a HoFer though, Benny is the real deal yall and growth takes time

    I saw that

And everyone hates Draymond because he’s got some screws loose. I don’t blame anyone, and I share in that (although as someone who has conquered anger management myself, I empathize with Dray).
So I’m not going to tell you he’s a good person, to like Draymond, etc

But dude is an absolute basketball savant.

If he says it, that means a lot

That’s a lot of words, but it’s mostly fluff.

    >Mathurin is the key. His growth will ultimately determine how far the Indiana Pacers can take it.”

Thats the point he’s making and…kinda.

I mean, yeah, it would be great if Benn becomes the player everyone wants him to, but it’s also possible Shep ends up being a more useful player for this line up and/or Walker does.

This year, and Benn’s on/off numbers, have kind of proved the idea that Benn alone is the linchpin are a little silly.

Siakam is 30 so one of the young guys gon have become that anyway

Heartbreaking, the worst person you know just made a great point.

He’s 100% right. Pacers are 17-3 this year when Mathurin scores 15+
