[Reiter] Why hiring Doc Rivers is a mistake for the championship-minded Bucks: When the news broke that Griffin was out, and Rivers might well be his replacement, a rival NBA executive texted this to CBS Sports: “And the other Eastern Conference contenders breathe easier.” There’s a reason for that

It’s being exaggerated. Doc has won a championship before with a stacked roster. The bucks have a stacked roster.

  2. Yeah, whereas with a rookie coach who seemed to have no idea what he was doing, the other teams were trembling in their boots, lol.

  3. Lmao that exec might have been breathing easier, all the fans of other Eastern conference contenders on r/nba were rejoicing in joy at the pending bucks 2nd round exit.

Is Rivers the answer? Probably not, but Griffin definitely wasn’t the guy.

  5. Lol69HaHaHa

Dam…so its really just down to the Celtics, Heat and 76ers in the east huh.

I just wanna see the Bucks and 76ers match up in the 2nd round…it would be funny no matter the outcome lol.

  6. Rivers went from the mist overrated coach to the most underrated coach in the league

  7. this bum was denying doc rivers report and now that he’s hired, he starts writing these mistake posts.

  8. Apollo611

At this point i’m rooting for the Bucks to make it out the east to shut everyone up

On one hand Doc sucks. Other the other… Giannis and Dame do not. So, prob a little over blown here.

I don’t think Doc is the answer at all. But Griffin wasn’t cutting it. To me this speaks more on the FO than anything. Fired Bud, Hired Griffin when there were better options available. And how Doc is about to avoid accountability at an Olympic level

  11. Awanderingleaf

Damn, imagine if the Bucks had a more recent title winning coach employed?

It’s very funny that this tweet basically boils down to

“HERE’S WHY HIRING DOC WAS A MISTAKE: he sucks”

  13. 2020IsANightmare

Yes. Because there were so many great free agent coaching options floating out there.

I’m sure the Spurs, Warriors and Heat were all willing to trade their coach (is that a thing?), but the Bucks just said, “No. We got Doc Rivers. Why would we need Pop or Kerr or Spo?”

We can play fantasyland or whatever the fuck if we want. If you choose. The reality is Giannis wanted Griffin gone. And probably other players wanted the former coach gone as well. It’s a player’s league. So, guess what happened?

This “anonymous rival NBA executive” sounds like a real asshole. Constantly talking shit about teams all over the league.

  15. shakefistatsky

There have only been 13 teams in NBA history to blow a 3-1 series lead, and Rivers has coached three of them.

    *shrug*

  16. Overall_Nuggie_876

This whole thing would’ve been stabilized if the Bucks weren’t too quick to fire Bud…when it was later revealed he coached with a personal heavy-heart and couldn’t focus on the Heat.

  17. drutastic57

So we just gonna let Harden and Embiid off the hook?

  18. The Bucks have yet to play the top 6 teams in the West and they’ve only played Philly once. I think they may lose some of these games so they’ll look worse than they are, but I find it hard to believe they’ll be worse with Doc than a rookie head coach who they didn’t like.

Signing him as a stopgap for a year and reevaluating is an odd thing to do but thats one thing, firing your 1st yr coach halfway through a season youre second in the conference and then signing Doc through 2027 is CRAZY

  20. guitmusic12

Ain’t no way a legitimate nba executive was fretting for an Adrian Griffin coached bucks team

  21. thegodfaubel

The receipts will need to be kept for both sides of this

  22. Unp0pularS0lutions

Pieces like these almost never age well and I’d probably bank on a deep playoff run by the bucks. Only team I could really see beating them where I wouldn’t be surprised in the East is Boston. Philly could go either way, if the Heat stop losing winnable games, it could give either way. But I don’t see any other East team winning a series against them (granted both teams are healthy). To say they aren’t still a threat in the East and you’re “breathing easy” is nonsense. And we know that NBA executive was Daryl Morey, without a fucking doubt

  23. HikingWeasel

If only we had a coach that won them a championship with the team a few years prior.

  24. as if the other teams in the East aren’t playoff frauds (outside of the Heat). Doc has been apart of a bunch of blown playoff series but he is an easy scapegoat for playoff underperformances from East superstars.

  25. OlTommyBombadil

I still bet they’re breathing slightly harder than when Griffin was coaching

  26. WhoWightMan

RDCWorld rubbing their hands and rehearsing for their upcoming Doc Rivers skits

  27. John___Titor

I swear to God, you can’t just write “rival NBA executive”. That is not a goddamn source. Name the person. Otherwise your account should be banned.

  28. Efficient-Addendum43

But how funny would it be if he beat Boston and Philly on route to a title

  29. aflyingsquanch

Do you have 3 HOFers and a young Rondo equivalent? If not, you likely ain’t winning it all with Doc at the helm.
