YouTube so about last night yeah you know it was built up for you know wimby versus Chad and Wy won that battle we’ll mention that in a few seconds uh but overall as far as just the team against OKC not a pretty night not a pretty night your Spurs lost to the Thunder

140 to 114 it was a blowout that yeah it got ugly it really was just more I think for most of even for Thunder fans I think it just turned into okay let’s see how wimy and chat do they did kind of give us a little bit of that l in the fourth

Period uh but outside of that yeah it was just a lopsided win for the Thunder Spurs got troun now you know the Spurs were not out of it yet you know the first quarter they were still hanging in there only losing by 35 to 28 after the

First and we’re still in it you know at halftime but that third quarter that third quarter well you know let’s just get into it you know take away number one what happened to the third quarter the Spurs lately have been beating uh teams uh in the third period keeping

Them in games keeping them competitive was not the case last night versus the Thunder uh the Thunder outscored them 37 of 24 uh that really that second the way they came out the second half and that third period really set the tone for the rest of the game

Uh you despite being down at half nevertheless and the Spurs were still in it you know they weren’t getting you know the break speed off them but um that really set the tone and they look just really defeated so takeaway number one is yeah hopefully the trend is not

Going back to poor third quarters takeaway number two yeah well can we talk about just how C shooting the Thunder were this is how bad defensively the Spurs were OKC scored a season High 140 points on 56% field goal shooting in the wind versus your silver and black uh

Thunder were just hot they just could could not miss and you look at some of the uh shooting percentages as mentioned uh 56% for the Thunder spur shot 50% three-pointers and you know they were just connecting on them 18 three-pointers for the game four the Thunder or the Spurs connected on nine

That was pretty much the big one of the bigger differences right there is just the shooting Spurs are unable to find the bucket Thunder were able to find the bucket you see the score you see the outcome another L for the Spurs yeah so takeaway number two is that Thunder were

Just shooting hot and the Spurs had no answer for that defensively nor offensively to connect on their own shots and finally takeway number three Victor won the battle between Chad yes yeah the Victor versus Chad Battle of individually not you know the you know for for the game but individually that

Matchup went to Victor he finished with 24 points 12 rebounds and four assists in 28 minutes while Chad he finished with 17 points nine rebounds four assists in 30 minutes uh keep in mind that Victor was lifted off his minutes restrictions somewhat he was played up to 30 minutes that’s what pop said

Pregame he only played 28 but that was just the fact it was just a blowout you know it was competitive I’m pretty sure those minutes would be high but yeah so individually uh won the battle again now chess Thunder is up on wimy Spurs two to nothing in the regular season but if

You’re looking at that Roy Chase Rookie of the Year Chase again Victor separated himself from Chad it got really really spicy in that fourth period uh you saw those two kind of battling out together it looked like a scene from Pacific Rim you know when the Jaggers are taking on

The Titans you know in the battles in the street that’s what it looked like uh you know Victor really really was coming at Chad even tried to just just posterized him he missed it even when he did get him with the dunk he gave him a

Little bit of a little bit of an elbow uh yeah then yeah it got it got good you know I was hoping that’ll least continue at least that will just be some sort of silver lining for the Spurs fan base just to see Victor just dominate Chad unfortunately that was kind of

Shortlived and Chad exited the game and then wimy exited the game yeah look you know I rather that than risk any injury for wimy but you have it three takeaways right there Spurs lose again yeah it wasn’t pretty Spurs fall to 8 and 36 they’ll next face the Blazers this

Or at least a wild Batman to wy’s Robin until wmy got going the point is he was supposed to be the onew punch is he making those positive strides are we seeing that leap in his development uh the short answer is no we’re not seeing the leap and I think

That that has kind of jaded a lot of Spurs fans right now if you follow Spurs Twitter uh they seem to be down on Vel and I think they’re down on Vel because Vel had a lot of expectations coming in uh getting a Rel relatively decent sized

Extension along the way in the off season uh more was expected of him and I think think that for some reason Spurs want to roast this guy more than they do Kellin or Jeremy soan or whatever the case may be it’s probably be because of the extension um I don’t think that

Vel’s played poorly this year in fact if you look at the stats they’re fine the stats are fine the problem that you have with with Devon vasel is that when wemi is off for load management or rest or whatever they call it on those back-to-backs he doesn’t step up and I

Think that kind of confuses Spurs fans because I mean there was a game a few weeks ago against the Bulls where he only had five points you know and it’s it’s one of those things where wy’s not there we need you to go on and take 15

18 20 shots lead this team get this team going offensively and for some reason whenever wemy is not there it seems to be more like Kellen who wants to take those shots as opposed to as opposed to Deon vasel you know you look at vel’s recent streak of double figure scoring

Heading into last night’s game versus the Thunder 1 two 3 four games in a row double figures scoring three of those four 20 or more points I hope he’s finding a Groove but for me why I’m not there to say yes he’s made that big step yet is because of the

Inconsistency uh he’s being consistent right now but he had as you mentioned the Chicago game with Five Points he followed up with four points and a lost to Atlanta then then he had a stride right now um you I’m glad you brought up Kellin Johnson because sometime I feel

Like maybe Kellin is the robin to wy’s Batman because Kellin has that heart that passion he comes out and he’s gonna do all he can but then you look at Kellin stats you know they’re up and down as well so I I look at vasel though

If we’re you’re looking at him and you know we’re breaking down a little bit uh further you look at here and I got it here for you hang on um he went from having a pretty good December averaging about 18 points per game 3.4 blocks but

Then you go down to this month they they declined 16.8 points per game and uh and he’s doing that in more minutes but not by a hair yeah 32.1 in uh December 32.8 in this month of January but I I look at what Vel is

Doing and I’m not ready to say like oh no he hasn’t made that big St because there’s still a lot of games to be played in this season we’ve seen his recent Play It’s been more consistent but he meant is for me is that consistency I need to see this more

Often than not you know these streaks of double figure scoring these streaks of being a defensive past the streaks of being that one two punch with Wy I need to see that more often and so far I have not really seen that up until recently I think it all comes with expectations

Which is why the disappointments there uh you know uh as you mentioned Kellin Johnson does have inconsistencies along the way I don’t want to say that the cells regress because he really has it he’s more of a plateau than anything else and because of that Plateau we were hoping that he

Would take that leap into something bigger and better going from maybe a 20 21 Point per game kind of guy to maybe a 23 24 Point per game kind of guy and it’s kind of difficult to do that I mean uh you you might look at it and think to

Yourself maybe if the Spurs played an actual point guard the first 20 games of the Season maybe his numbers would look a little bit better uh you know with Trey Jones being out there the team’s offense seems to be a little bit better but now you have Trey Jones banged up

Right now so I I think that Vel has had a decent year not a leap but I think that the leap is is possible with him in future years I I think there’s another gear there that’s going to be available to him it just didn’t happen this year

Like we had all hoped no I I I hear what you’re saying maybe next year I am actually saying it could happen this year I think it well I think there’s still I think he went through an adjustment phase of the new lineup of well adding wimy and look from pop to

The players everybody said it’s been an adjustment trying to figure him out being uh Victor it seems like maybe they have ever since they moved him to the center spot and now you’re seeing the team a little bit more relaxed a little bit more organized they’re looking for

Wmy now more often than not than they to start the season and you look at um Devin and I like Devin I I think he’s a fantastic player I think he’s a good complimentary piece to wimy I think you if you have to pick a building piece

From the C from the roster right now you would Vel would be among those pieces uh to move on forward with the rebuild and wmy for me though I like to see him improve on his three point I’m sorry his free throw attempts I want to see him

Get fouled more I want to see him being more aggressive picking up those fouls getting those points you’re looking at uh last month and this month so December he was averaging 2.6 attempts from the free throw line this month it’s gone up 3.1 I need to see that higher and I

Think he has the ability to penetrate get those silly fouls from the opposition and use his athleticism to do that for me and he’s almost there I think I think it’ll come this season I think that’ll be a good way for him to really be um taking steps in his

Development you know that’s a very good point uh Jeff is that he doesn’t have that game to get him that those cheap five six seven points at the free throw line I mean look at other players who play the two position you know whether

It be and I know Luca doic plays a one two he’s kind of more of a combo than anything else uh but if you look at at let’s look at at shooting guards from Spurs past you know you look at mon job Manu got to the line right Manu not only

Knocked down threes and hit jumpers and created his own shot he got to the line and that’s the one thing that you’re right that Devon vasel is missing the most because he doesn’t attack the basket the way Kellin does he doesn’t attack the basket or he doesn’t he

Doesn’t streak towards the basket like soan does uh or or or Kellin or or or or or wemi so yeah you’re right that’s probably that’s probably the next Evolution the next leap that we’ll get from Deon Vel hope to get from him is to get those extra four five or six points

Per game from the charity strike yeah because he could knock down free throws man yeah he definitely knocking out you know it’s not all doom and gloom you know we’re not saying that this is a bad season for this absolutely not it’s been a really good season uh but I think the

Expectations were just set so high because of the big payday he got in the offseason heading into the new season and because you know there was the pairing of him and wimy they were going to be the the kind of the two pieces to really move forward with and you look at

How he ranks among other uh I guess you as a shooting guard maybe I don’t know how you would CL shoot Swingman I guess yeah but when he is in that shooting guard position you know he’s n in three-point attempt so he’s trying to get those uh three-point shots up and

He’s tenth in steals at that position when he’s at the shooting guard spot so uh he does bring a lot of positive impact to the Spurs uh when the game is up the ball I like his intangibles his passion you know I spoke to him about his leadership this uh earlier this

Season that he wants to embrace that and I think he has embraced that I’ve seen him multiple times really talking to the players I mean everybody has watch watch the games you’ll see him uh really uh getting in people’s years so I think that he will take this leap I think it’s

Just going to be sooner than later than you think but the question is though do the Spurs you know incorporate him more in like kind of like not force feed it but get these two guys going wimy and Devin uh get the more chemistry going look the Min restriction should be

Lifted off soon for wimy I think perhaps that is a time to really say okay now we got wimy no more minutes restriction here we got Vel seemingly to be consistent right now as we record this let’s let the see these let’s see these two guys cook on the court well that’s

That’s funny because typically when you see a two-man game involving the center uh you have a one and a five going with each other or a two and a five but it seems like the Spurs are more focused on trying to get a two-man game going with

W and Jeremy soan we’ve seen some benefits of that I mean I I think that soan has shown that when he rolls to the bucket he can finish uh by you know he has soft hands he can grab it and can uh Lay It Up dunk it or whatever the case

May be and there’s a good twom man game involving wemi and soan we really haven’t seen that with with Devon Vel and I I kind of I I’m not questioning why that hasn’t happened uh I do find that the 4 five thing going on with weni and soan is actually pretty interesting

And you can see that it’s working from time to time uh but making that call for Devon it just seems to me like like Devin plays a certain type of game where he’s comfortable in certain things but doesn’t want to Branch out into doing things that he’s not most comfortable

With you know he he he he has a certain Lane of of activity that he likes to stay in and he needs to develop more than what he’s got right now he’s a good player I like Devon Vel me too uh he’s my favorite spur not Nam Victor

Whama uh I am disappointed this season uh but he hasn’t played bad it’s just it’s almost like we’re finding a reason to complain about Devon Vel as opposed to having a reason for it a big time reason for it yeah I mean I mean up you know you

Look look at just his uh progression from last season to this year you know he’s still averaging about the same minutes per game 31 did that last season he’s doing it right now uh you know but you’re seeing that’s the W the impact of wimy you know the touches are going to

Come down so obviously his point production is going to come down last season 18 and a half per game this season 17.9 not too much of a drop off but still extra touches go to wimy uh but nevertheless uh you know his field goal shooting has gone up I mean 43%

Last last year 46% this year so yeah you know just little by little but I I think once this team gets going they get you know churning with wimy and and and they get all this this Min restriction off and whatnot I think he’ll be fine I

Had a way more wow moments 10 times more at least so thank you Vic for that comment he Menace he’s picking Chad uh following night but I’m sorry he picking Victor as the Roy winner but Vegas thinks something else what do you think well uh when this when the month

Started was the leader uh at the clubhouse right there uh first 25 30 games into the season and a lot of Spurs fans got upset about that and I mentioned that on the AL City Sports cast as well uh about the fact that if they were given the award out January

5th that award would have been given to Chad holr right even though Wy was a little bit better at points a little bit better at assists and rebounds and blocks uh because Chad was playing for a team that was the number two seed in the west and was contributing to a winning team

Yes sga’s there and they have a better team but the fact of the matter is is that that meant something because there was not that divide it almost felt to me like a Tai went to the went to the runner and in this case the runner was Chad

Hol but what we’ve seen the past three weeks or so since the beginning of the new year we’ve seen wemi go off and have a string of 20 plus points per per game had his first triple double had over 30 points the other day against the Sixers

Uh this is a guy that has now average more than 20 points per game at 20.3 yeah so once you get to a 20 point per game you got to be taken looked at at a different level I agreed with Vegas casinos back on the sports books back on

January 5th when they had CAD homr as the leader but now things have changed and we’ve seen Chad kind of come back down to earth he’s had about four or five games in a row where he’s just barely putting up any stats getting single digits and points where whereas

Wemi is is is going off so I think right now that if the award was given out Victor wanyama would win it and right now you’re seeing some sports books like FanDuel for example come out and say that wemi is now the favorite all over again others uh like DraftKings were

Saying that they’re both uh they have the same odds others like MGM still have Chad hren as the the odds on favorite to win the rookie of the year but as of now as of now it’s Wy to win Wy is the leader in my eyes right now uh

I think I’m trying to be as objective as possible but man Wy now averaging 20 points per game you gotta ask yourself the question now if he’s averaging 28 30 points per game between now and the early part of February and he gets his points per game to 21 he might not only

Be the the leader when it comes to Rookie of the Year here he might be knocking on the door of a an All-Star bid yeah as as a as one of the uh uh you know coaches picks yeah I I hope so too now we have some stat comparison between

Wimy and Chad via stat head I’m GNA put him on the screen here for you humanis yeah so this was um you know heading into the game last night versus the Thunder Spurs as you can see uh prior to that last night’s game it leans towards wimy in most categories from points to

Rebounds you see on your screen assist deals blocks uh free throw percentage Chad does have the edge in certain categories mainly just shooting three-point shooting field go um but yeah I mean I mean if they say numbers don’t lie then right there it is well uh

If wy’s averaging 21 points per game 10 rebounds three blocks three assists uh it’s going to be hard to take that away from him uh it was easier to take it away from him when he was averaging 18 18 and N right there it may not sound like much but there’s a huge

Difference between 18-9 and 21-1 huge difference and at 18 and9 you can’t you can take that award away from him and and say well you know he he’s only leading the Spurs to a 156 win season uh but when you get to that 21 21

And 10 that not that only is a good barometer but keep in mind what did Vegas predict when be doing this year they predicted him being at around 18 and n 19 and n and and if he’s exceeding those expectations in his rookie season how can you take the award away from him

Yeah you can yeah that’s why I think as of now Wy should win it all right the next comment comes from morai Drake this is right up he menace’s alley I don’t know we should read this I don’t know we should read he knows what it is but I’ll

Read it to everybody morai Drake he says why the bleep did we draft Jeremy soan he isn’t really good at anything thank you Mory for that comment Mike you’ve been one of the more vocal critics of Sohan since his rookie year even till today um there you know there was the

The point guard spot you know experiment that collapsed that wasn’t a good idea you know he’s kind of starting to come around now but but overall I think you know morai I think he’s good A little bit of I think he’s good a little bit about everything from his three-point shooting has gotten

Better he men um he was willing to embrace the role as best he could and do what he could for the team uh now sliding back to his natural position you’re see him being more impactful on the defensive end he’s doing his best against uh well

He’s defending some of the NBA’s best um but I think the idea with soan moving forward and probably in the past until now is that we’re seeing him exactly why they drafted him because he’s doing a little bit of everything your thoughts well it reminds me of one of my

Favorite TV shows of all time which is community and I’ve been going back and rewatching the episodes and on the very first episode Jeff Winger tells Abed after getting to know him for a while I now know what you’re good for I now know

How I can use you M and that is the evolution of me and my thoughts when it comes to Jeremy soan because I was highly critical of him and I don’t know if it was because of him where I was highly critical of the fact that Spurs

Fans believe and there’s still some I mean I read one on Twitter earlier today where people are like he’s a future Superstar no he isn’t yeah he he isn’t he’s going to have a very long career and I’ve been trying to kind of figure out exactly who he is because people

Have said oh well he is a a Draymond Green type of player and that doesn’t really excite me um I I I am now going towards well maybe he’s more of a Shawn Maran somebody who could potentially become a lock down Defender who could knock down the occasional three but

Can’t create a shop but can finish them can go get some boards um I go back talking about like basically like a like a Boris di basically a better version a better version of it he had has gotten better in different parts of the game okay uh I

Like I like him attacking the basket when when when uh Wy has the ball at the top of the key I love when he’s doing that he’s kind of a pick and roll kind of guy I or he’s rolling to the basket I like that three-point shooting is gotten

Better his free throw shooting has gotten better the shooting efficiency is slightly better uh it’s weird his three-point shooting has gone up and his two-point shooting has gone down so it kind of evens out but when I look at at Jeremy soan I look at Derek white like

There’s a lot of Derek white in him in the sense that Derek white is a glue guy Jeremy soan is a glue guy I think that they’re going to be really good for really good teams it’s can he be good for a team that is rebuilding like you you put
