One thing is for sure. Rui will never get the opportunity he deserves as long as Ham is the coach. He was perfect from the field, 10 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 steal. But played 19 minutes. He is paid 17 million a year.

  1. Problem is not with Rui, it’s his position! He backs up Bron and Ham doesn’t really like to play him and Bron together, which I get it but it is what it is

Have you ever considered that he’s not consistent enough offensively to offset his genuinely atrocious defense?

  3. He’s slowly transitioning to the way the Wizards utilized him. Sit in the corner type of guy. Ham needs to run more actions for him. If not to develop him then for boosting his trade market value, makes sense for the front office.

Note: I’ve been a Rui fan since he’s drafted. Own several of his memorabilia. Want to see him continuing as a Laker. I don’t want to see him traded.

On this team, Rui is a bench player. He can be a starter but not with AD and LeBron.

It’s really a new complaint after every game win or lose 😂 😂

  6. GoalPublic3579

He’s also not as good as this subreddit makes him out to be.

A nice bench player on $7m a year like he was last year. $17m a year though is insane.

It doesn’t sense right? You pay the guy and don’t play him. Would prince come back on a cheap deal? He will sign elsewhere after this season. Or ham is trying force a Rui trade lakers can shift money to Prince. And I like Prince, just not for his amount of minutes.

  8. SAMAHANKITA

What about trade Rui for DJM? Wishful thinking that the hawks will accept this. 😂

  9. The team needs to eventually shorten the rotation, phase out Christie’s minutes, and indirectly give those to Rui by using Prince as a back-up guard and freeing up more minutes at the 3.

D’Angelo / AR / Prince / Vanderbilt / Rui / LeBron / AD / back-up center (who I guess is Wood for now) should be their 8 man play-off rotation. If Vincent comes back and actually shows that he can play, then he can be another back-up guard.

Even in the play-offs, D’Angelo should still only be playing around 30-32 high effort/energy minutes. Less minutes shouldn’t be a bad thing when he’ll be better rested for those minutes.

The same is true for Reaves. He should still only be playing around 30-32 high effort/energy minutes.

Vincent and Prince should be covering the remaining 32~36 guard minutes with Prince playing fewer minutes as a sub at the 3.

The majority of the team’s 48 minutes at the 3 should be going to Vanderbilt with Rui taking the rest of those minutes.

LeBron should be getting most of the minutes at the 4 with Rui being his main back-up.

AD should be almost exclusively played at the 5 with Wood taking the remaining minutes as a sub.

I don’t think this is on Ham as much as people want to believe it is.
Run plays for Rui? they hardly run plays at all. Reality is the guys out there don’t pass the ball to Rui lol. 3 shots and was perfect tonight but can’t do much if teammates look him off like he was 0-3 lol

  11. SuaveBigote

same problem with Wizards, he’s not getting playtime so how can he develop to be a core player

  12. sbenfsonw

20 minutes a game is fine for him. He basically shares minutes in the front court with Lebron, AD, Wood and Vando. Their minutes distribution this game was pretty fair

And as much as Prince shouldn’t get 30 a game, Rui can’t really play his more guard oriented role and defensive assignments

  13. SignificantStorm412

His bully ball was today winning point..but idont know why not you him more longer

  14. The thing us, LeBron was among others a bit gassed at the end of the game. We played zero defence. If rui played only 4 5 minutes more, LeBron would have been fresher.

  15. TorontoRaptors34

Rui don’t be getting touches like that he gets ignored a lot when he gets actual mins he can produce and be big time. Ham don’t like him. I wish he’d replace Princes and Rui mins.

  16. anonimouslygh

Rui just doesn’t fit that well. Get rid of him and maybe dlo for an upgrade.

  17. julystar7

When the playoffs come around, he will come through and get more minutes. Like the other post stated… When we shorten the roster he will be a necessary component.

  18. such a mystery what happens with this guy, doesnt seem to matter how well he plays. same at washington if i recall correclty so i dunno what gives, to me he seems like he should be getting a lot of mins

  19. He will get an increase in minutes when the playoffs start, if we manage to get them

  20. thehanssassin

The thing is Ham wants a 5 guard lineup again.

  21. I know we don’t play the same when Bron is sitting, but just the rest for Bron and shot making he provides should up his minutes already, everything leads to him getting traded eventually but apparently the front office realized we can’t lose him the other day, problem is on ham while Rui not finding his rhythm

  22. battle_franky

Ham is toying with a player that we’ve been paying for 16-17 million for a bust minimum guy and career 10th rotation guy

  23. It’s shocking to me how a coach can be so bad, like you have players like Rui with big potential but you give big minutes to players like TP and Cam, who don’t have nearly as much potential or stuff in their bag.

  24. I’d say just play him more than mid ass Prince, who routinely gets 30+ min for what reason? .500 ball?

  25. I’ve had this insane theory that the coaching staff is saving him for the playoffs but it’s all copium

  26. Ok_Concentrate_75

Maybe the coach knows more than us as far as a player coming back from repeated injuries and on a minutes restriction. Idk I tend to think as fan we see the team like its 2k but in real life every injury takes its own time. A coach has to consider these things because when they don’t players get hurt and can do greater damage due to ego/adrenaline.

  27. Happy-Cauliflower-22

There’s a reason this guy never became an all star lol, y’all will blame Ham for anything

  28. DJBliskOne

Does everyone remember when Rui murdered the Grizz in the playoffs last year with Lebron on the floor! Yah. I don’t remember that either.
