Cam Whitmore Space City Home Network Interview l Houston Rockets
You’re about halfway through your rookie season I see you nice and sweaty how does an NBA practice compared to a Villanova College practice uh that’s a great comparison but um I’m not going to lie I’ll say Villanova is much harder for sure yes Villanova is much harder a
Lot of Villanova guys would know but yeah Villanova is much different than anybody else but I mean I’m loving it so far it’s um great experience so I mean you know just getting ready for the next game is there anything that’s surprised you about your experience in the NBA so
Far anything that’s kind of come as a shocker I mean just the players I inan the league I’ve been looking up to the players for like I mean I don’t know how long um I mean from like LeBron Giannis Dame all them all them Stars I was
Coming up when I was a little kid so I mean I’m just you know eye opener just I’m you know I’m really here and not that I belong this first half of the Season where have you seen yourself improve the most I’ll say just making quick decisions I mean just you know
Being a decision maker that’s what I got to work on you know some you know really focus on uh down the stretch you’ve told me that you’re really working earnestly on your defense every day how do you think that’s coming along I mean defense comes with effort it’s not
Really you know a skill you got to have so I mean just you know it comes down just me being locked in and being aware on I mean know both sides of the floor what are some things that Royale Ivy who I know does a lot of the defensive drops
And and coachi mayoka what are some things that they say to you about defense just general principles it’s really just a simple word just being locked in Awareness they keep saying that same thing over and over again and um you know just being aware of the certain switches and the slips that um
You you know a lot of teams do so I mean you know they like to slip I mean every defense you know that we you know play play up against they always slip against us you know I mean hit the back screen just you know some some different
Defensive schemes how impactful was your time in the G league for helping you get ready for the actual NBA impactful on both ends of the floor help me with the defense and then you know the G league is helped you to uh develop your game
Just you know get reps on the floor so I mean um I had the green light down there so I mean it was just you know great um great spots you know just to uh work on my game since you’re only 19 you’re playing against mostly older guys how’s
Your trash talking skills are they coming along I’m not going to lie growing up I was always the young Growing Up So on the black top I was always that you know that kid I mean the big fow but still you know a little ass
Kid but uh at the end of the day um on the black top and uh same thing like at LA Fitness it was the same way so I mean um you know they they respect me at once but I mean just confidence end of the day who’s the best trash talker on the
Team I’m not going to lie it’s probably three three up there I’ll say Ali is lowkey H low key be talking try I’ll be lowkey but uh I’ll say I’ll be me and Fred Fred Fred when when he gets in that mode he he he do nice guy Fred yeah yeah yeah he
When he gets in that mod of course yeah what’s your biggest goal for yourself as you look at the second half of the Season biggest goal I would say I mean team goal to me I’m trying to make the playoffs mhm I’m not you know a big you
Know winner I never really won anything uh you know Bas wise but um trying to make the playoffs you know just you know just grow as a player to be honest I mean it’s my first year rookie season um I’m just now getting rotas so I mean you
Know we’ll see uh time will tell what was the biggest uh emphasis from coach Oka after what was kind of a rough road trip for you guys was my first you know actual NBA road trip to be honest so I mean at first it was I’m my eye opener
Just you know just see different Arenas and you know different um you know just the the crowd and you know the fans and just playing playing on the road is very different from being at home so I mean um that’s just something we got to work
On we got to get a win on the road we got to you know get some some momentum going but at the end of the day just um just keep driving that’s really it keep working
