Joe Mazzulla: Celtics BLOWOUT Win vs Heat Does Not Mean Much | Postgame Interview

The best you’ve played can you grade that how well you’ve played this season uh no because we got out shot by 14 didn’t turn them over had 11 turnovers um you know we did get to the free throw line more so the shot margin’s not too

Bad um so I don’t know if it’s the best we’ve played but I think it’s pretty the most intentional that we’ve played and I think after that game uh the biggest lesson without watching the film is just how the guys impact each other um you

Take a look at the box score it’s well balanced you take a look look at the defensive activity everyone participated defensively and uh I think it’s just one of those games where we have to say when we’re at our best uh we impact each other on both ends of the floor and um

We saw some moments of that tonight they guarded christops in a lot of different ways um with different players and you guys just kind of figured out how ways to to beat those um how what has the process been like of of finding those Solutions with him and kind of getting

Everyone on the same page and diagnosing the coverages and attacking yeah I mean I think it starts with trust uh I think just those guys uh building trust with each other uh just having an understanding that uh we have different ways that we could play uh every night

Calls for a different way every uh you know segment of the game depending upon the matchups and the way teams and garden you calls for a different uh frequency and so there’s going to be times where a guy is heavily involved and a time where we’re going to

Have to watch him go to work or watch him create for us and I think now we starting you know we’re have a lot of moments of like oh this I can make my life easier uh on both ends of the floor we’ve had that in so like you said

Tonight um you know the last five games we’ve seen different coverages on Chris different matchups um and I think tonight we noticed them quicker and uh you know we built a level of trust amongst the guys Joe I don’t think anybody says their statement games in the NBA but

What did you notice a maybe a sharper level of focus sharper level of Buy in just because of the opponent just because of the history between you two guys uh no two cups no I really I I no um I thought we played a really good

Game uh and I said you know to a few of the guys this game is really good but it means nothing at all in the grand scheme of things if we don’t take the lessons that we need to and apply it to the next

Game uh and so can enjoy it for till we get to the plane and then uh it’s on to the next one but I think the lessons here are what’s more important in the long term whether we won or lost here it’s understanding what we’ve done well

And and uh the areas of the game that we’ve really improved on and fighting to keep those hi Joe uh last year you said you were watching the town I wondered what movie is inspiring you this year uh I mean I I watched a ton of movies I

Watched the Bronx tail the other night it’s a great movie have you seen that one which one A Bronx tail no oh it’s a great movie I’ll watch it yeah nobody cares nobody cares nobody cares Joe what did you make of excuse what did you make of the team’s ability

To maintain an uptempo Pace throughout the course of the game and the role that played in nearly shooting 64% from the field uh I think pace for us has never been about playing fast it’s been about recognizing um coverage is fast getting to spacing fast and then playing and I

So I thought tonight one it was a balanced game from the standpoint of usually when you play well offensively your defense wains and we weren’t you know great uh defensively but I thought we had some moments of Brilliance defensively uh so to to continue to compete at a high level defensively even

Though the offense you know you’re shooting that well is important uh but playing fast is just recognizing the matchup get to the spacing make the right play quickly as possible I thought we had a lot more possessions of that tonight than we have and we just have to

Continue that Joe 55% from three-point land and and and obviously it being done on the road uh what can you also just tell to you guys being this successful on the road at this point of the Season uh I think like you said it’s um you know you can’t sustain shooting 55%

From the field I think it just goes more to we made the right play every night I mean uh we made the right play the majority of possessions even some of the turnovers that we had three the turnovers we made the right read we just didn’t didn’t pass it uh I mean we

Didn’t catch it or like we just um lost it so I think it’s more about just making the right play you make the right play you get better shots you get better shots you can shoot a better percentage and um uh that’s it last two questions

Adam and then Gary you you sort of touched on it a minute ago but um it does seem like there’s a tendency occasionally when every shot’s going in you can ease up a little bit um not only did you guys not do that but particularly even in the second half it

Was like it seemed like a different level what did you see during that and what’s the what is the key to maintaining that yeah I mean that that what I saw is that just competed at a high level defensively regardless of the result offensively I saw all Five Guys

Connected and engaged and then in the offensive end we just um two-on ones two-on ones made the right play made the right play create the two-on-one get to your spacing um just the fundamentals of the game so um yeah that’s what I saw Joe first Ley uh you were up 16 they

Made a run but with Tatum on the bench you built it to 23 CU Luke went on that scoring spree so what does that say about your depth and secondly what’s the story behind the T-shirt um so the uh I can’t wait to answer the second question I forgot the first

Question um depth yeah um I mean talked about it all year um the guy’s ability to depth and I think that’s part of so Luke uh 12 point that came from recognizing the coverage versus him and him making plays on the scene and uh guys getting quickly to their spots and

Their spacing and so again I think uh I think Luke’s been playing really well I think our bench is tremendous I think most importantly it shows how we can impact each other positively on both ends of the floor and like that’s the the the challenge for us is can we

Continue to build trust for each other uh even when things aren’t going well uh and you saw a bunch of that tonight the T-shirt I mean the three most favorite things in my outside of my family Jesus coffee and JJ so you know three pretty important things in life thank you yep

MIAMI — Boston Head Coach Joe Mazzulla, when asked if the recent game was the Celtics’ best performance this season, responded thoughtfully. “I don’t know if it’s the best we’ve played, but I think it’s the most intentional we’ve played,” he said. Mazzulla emphasized the importance of learning from this game, regardless of its quality: “This game is really good, but it means nothing in the grand scheme of things if we don’t take the lessons that we need to and apply them to the next game.” The Celtics showcased their prowess by making 22 3-pointers in a dominant 143-110 victory over the Miami Heat on Thursday night, handing Miami its fifth consecutive loss.

  1. Stumbling and Bumbling Reporters. Asking Dumb Questions. I don’t know how Joe put up with it.

  2. Joe plays with this young immature Reporters. Half of what he says they don’t get it. It seriously goes over their heads. It is funny as hell.

  3. For the Miami Heat the day the hated rival Boston Celtics stepped on the floor in Miami it was a big game, a chance to prove they are a contender and with Scary Terry in tow, proof they were now better than Boston who barely beat them opening week.

But for the Boston Celtics…. it was Thursday

  4. I know why they did this Joe they had Bill Russell on their mind Udonis said f Bill Russell he apologized, but the damage was already done and the players used that as motivation to send a message

  5. A Bronx tale is my favorite movie. A friend of mine catered for that movie. I got to meet Robert and chazz and Joe pesci. I think that's how u spell it lol. But he's shorter than he looks lol. But amazing movie
