All you Dejounte Murray fans who want to bring him here, is he worth the toxicity? He’s unhappy being a backup to Trae, you think he’ll be happy being a backup to Brunson?

He isnt coming off the bench; people who think he would are delusional

i’m kind of cool on dejounte right now, and frankly i’m kind of cool on making any trade at all right now. we WILL get mitchell fucking robinson back by playoffs, if not sooner, with zero need to overplay him as he works his way back. there is no trade that gives us more talent than boston right now, so if we’re going to have to beat them with a “lesser team” anyway, why not believe that we can do it with our current squad?

i don’t love this current team in spite of their flaws. i love this current team because of their flaws. brunson not being a great defender, but trying his best on that end and sacrificing his body every chance he gets. randle fighting with himself constantly to stay zen and not revert back to his old self, and winning that battle almost every night. deuce becoming less bad on offense pretty much before our eyes and making almost half of his threes when he couldn’t hit shit for his first two seasons. josh hart occasionally looking lost and occasionally looking like the ultimate glue guy. grimes bottoming out relative to his growth in the first two seasons, and staring to find himself again.

if only we can learn to love ourselves for our flaws instead of in spite of them. LGK.

Imagine how’d react the first time he’s benched for DDV in the clutch lol

  4. Between and the weird paolo banchero beef he has, he just seems like a hothead. Not worth it. Pass.

  5. JNerdGaming

hes kind of a shooting guard though, no? wouldnt he replace donte on the starting roster?

  6. I like Dejounte but I’m not sure if he fits with our guys and the culture we’re building. That’s my concern. There’s no question about his game and he’d certainly be starting likely moving Donte back to the bench, I just worry about the team chemistry. We’re building something here and I’m not sure if he fits into that.

I’m not sure we need a big move right now. Let’s ride this season out and see where we’re at. Give McBride time to grow into his role. Then in the offseason make a move.

  7. Dejonte just isn’t the high-character fit that the Knicks look for in players.

It would be like trading for Cam Reddish again. Extremely talented, but eventually falls out of favor because he doesn’t do the things Thibs needs him to do.

It’s either Brogdon, Burks or let Duece and Grimes grow interrupted.

Don’t want dejounte but not because of this. Don’t see the point. It would arguably worsen our starting 5 if we brought in dejounte Murray and then put donte on the bench. Having a great shooter at the 2 is CRUCIAL for our spacing, especially considering that we have a power forward who prefers to score at the rim and bigs who are restricted to putbacks and rhe rare alley oop on offence.

  9. Everyone seems to forget that summer where every week a new clip of him being an arrogant prick and bouncing balls off people’s heads and shit would drop

Give me derozen or burks and I’m good to go

  11. drewcarey69

I don’t see a guy who couldn’t get on the same page with Pop getting along with Thibs

Starting lineup seems good enough imo.. would rather just get a backup PG and see how far the current team can go. Feel like they can compete with any team on any night. Why rock the boat when they’re playing so well

  13. severinks

This whole thing is academic because I can guarantee that he’d be a Knick if Brunson wanted him on the team and Tibs thought that it would work.

I’m torn about whether Murray would thrive here but if he did come here he’d be starting next to Brunson not backing him up.

The way I feel is Dante is perfect for the starting 2 guard but we sure do need is better creator than Deuce to make a deep playoff run.

I mean… did you even read the text message? Sort of sounds like a guy that isn’t toxic. Also it’s a private conversation that then somebody posted… is that him being toxic?

He also is complaining about not playing as a team and then says hawks fans want stats over wins and he isn’t about that.

Isn’t that exactly something you’d want a player to say?

  15. patrickthunnus

I would not over-tinker with the starters, they are awesome. You can easily argue that we just need to get healthy more than anything else.

Fill in the gaps among the reserves, 3rd string depth. God forbid JB or Ju twists an ankle, can we survive for a week while they mend?

  16. Nicholas-Kopis

This was a text between him and his father right? Not meant for public consumption- he’s complaining to his father. Whatever. Not a great look but it’s hardly enough to turn me against him- he’s unhappy because it’s not working out there, as all Atlanta acknowledges. I’m more concerned about fit and the decline in his defense.

  17. OhhhTAINTedCruuuuz

I actually think Dejounte would fit great from a roster perspective and would 100% start over Donte, but if he expects to be running an offense this is not the place for him. If he’s okay being a secondary ball-handler and working with Thibs to get his defense back, then I’m all for it at the right price, but I can’t really think of any playoff teams he would be “the guy” on like it seems he wants

  18. aesop_fables

I don’t want Murray anywhere near this team tbh

  19. Iamamyrmidon

That’s a really god point OP. To play devil’s advocate, Trae Young is a turd.

  20. OneThousandDegrees

This was a private convo that got leaked. Hard to judge him based on that. Plus i think if he was on a winning team, he’d be a bit more okay with it haha. But I’m still about Murray. Right now We literally have no one who can provide an offensive spark off the bench with the exception of grimes and that’s when he chooses to be decisive with his shots

  21. Snoo-26902

And was he a part of that disastrous 73-point explosion by Luka?

    Did he play Luka…?

  22. Hot-Turnover4883

Not to mention he’s not the defender he was in San Antonio, trading for Murray would ruin what we have going on rn not add to it.

  23. If he came off the bench to run our second unit similar to Russ, we’d be elite but I don’t know if he has the humility to do that. I’m sure thibs would have him buying in defensively too.

  24. Didn’t he start some shit with Paolo Banchero during some summer pickup game before Banchero had even played his first game? Yea, this dude sounds like a locker room cancer.

  25. i can’t get into any random twitter guy posting shit that may or may not have actual DJ tweets. that it would be insanely easy to photoshop. There may or may not be something there. He certainly wouldn’t be the first guy to be unhappy in a losing situation that became a huge piece of a winning team.

I’m more concerned with the fit with him guarding mostly 2s and mostly playing off the ball next to JB. I think he’s really a 1. It definitely COULD work. JB has played next to Luka so he can play great off ball in spots and this could be a nice combo to just take some of the playmaking pressure off of JB. That was the thought process going into the Hawks, though, and it clearly hasn’t worked there.

The chemistry with the first unit is so good right now that I’m reluctant to mess with it. Donte is a better off-ball shooter right now and may be a better defender as well, though I find it hard to believe that DM’s defense has just disappeared and will never come back. This does legitimately have the chance to work out perfectly with DM recovering his defense and being just as good as DM with the first team while also running a phenomenal second unit AND providing a perfect salary slot for a future star trade. If the price is right, it’s probably worth a shot but you’d think someone else will value him more as a full-time point.
