Talk about something betraying the eye test. For one thing, he hasn’t barely played this month. For another, I can’t think of a single POA attacker he’s stopped lol.

You can tell it’s not a good stat for POA defense since Melton ranks highly in it. Our only good point of attackers defenders on this team are Pat Bev & Springer. Garland, Haliburton, Shai & Ant have all cooked Melton this season when he’s been used as the POA. Infact it got so bad that when he’s on the floor, Nick Nurse makes Oubre or Tobi take the hardest defensive assignment cos he knows Melton can’t do it. Besides, Melton has never been seen as a good onball defender. He’s always been seen as an offball defender – someone who can get extra possessions through steals, rebounding, etc. Also, Cam Reddish isn’t that good of a POA defender either.

I would love it if we could upgrade our starting SG and move Melton to the bench. Would be down for that for sure

Melton is underrated. He is our second best starting defender and the only high volume 3 point shooter with maxey. Yes, he doesn’t do anything else well, but as a fifth starter he is what you want. He should/will be in the playoff rotation no matter what.

@ all the idiots who told me Melton is easily replaceable.
We are missing him tremendously

I wonder how much of this stat is due to Melton having Embiid behind him if he gets beat or dies on the screen. I think Embiid leads the nba in contested shots in the paint and is top 3 in field goal % allowed at the rim

I know he’s out for about another 4 weeks but any thoughts on Marcus Smart would they deal him? Would you want him?
In the land of 140 point games defense might be the key this year

Melton is actually pretty similar to Derrick white tbh. It took Derrick white a long time to become the player he is now also. Melton will do things other guards don’t like rebound and defend bigger guys with proficiency

He’s allowing a +3.7 DFG% differential, meaning opponents are shooting 3.7% higher than their season average when he defends them, 2nd worst among anyone in the rotation ahead of only Morris (+6.7 🤮)
This is not an anomaly, he has allowed a positive differential in all but one season of his career, which was 4 years ago
For comparison Smart is at -6.9 and Joel is at -6.6, both among the best in the league.
Even if you believe his D is actually good, it’s not switchable. He should be traded to add 2 guards with size, and definitely shouldn’t be re-signed, surrounding Maxey with height is of **absolute paramount importance**. It’s hard enough to find one tall PG, even if Melt goes to the bench our backup SG can’t be an undersized 6-2 where any normal sized backup PG makes our whole 2nd unit small.

A healthy Melton is almost the perfect role player. If he was even an avg finisher and a couple inches taller he’d be so good.
