It’s mid-season, does this matter?

Have to say I’m a little nervous about big games throughout the playoffs

A little cherrypicked, we did well against good teams over the rest of the season

  2. rawspeghetti

That we’re getting every teams best shot through a tough part in the schedule. The only concerning one was the Bucks blowout but that was like the 4th game in 5 days. I’m still feeling good about the Heat beat down, no worries here

Without looking, I’d say it’s missing a hell of a lot of info.

    1. Who was playing in those games?
    2. Did they play the night before any of these games?
    3. Did they travel the same day or late the night before any of these games?
    4. How many games did they play in January?

Bottom line, C’s are still the number 1 team in the league if I’m not mistaken. I’m not too worried when it comes to a series vs any of these teams if they continue to play this way.

The Nuggets and OKC game we lost by a combined 6 points and both could’ve been W’s, and then this suddenly looks a lot better

The Bucks loss sucked but we all know that was our 5th game in 7 nights and they looked gassed

The Clippers game was shit but we also blew them out in their arena earlier in the season so it’s whatever. 1-1 and we were missing KP both times

    No, I’ll keep it simple.

    1. “Last 5” is arbitrary. BOS is 3-4 vs these teams. The more recent matchups don’t mean more.

    2. Most elite teams are about .500 vs each other. That means there is no “super team” ahead of the pack.

    3. Regular season matchups are not good indicators of post season matchups. It’s a different game in terms of game planning & adjustments.

Everyone is just looking for things to worry about. This team is a legit champion contender. They are not head & shoulders above the pack. They’ll need all their guns blazing come playoff time, just like the rest of these teams.

  6. None of these matter. What matters is how we play in the playoffs, most of these Porzingis didn’t even play in.

  7. Bearded_Pip

It might mean something, we’ll see. It is worth noting though and it is worth asking how many of those games did KP play?

  8. imfuckingstarving69

Which one of these teams did they play 7 times in a row?

  9. captaincumsock69

Does it matter sure? Can you extrapolate a lot from it? Probably not.

  10. Shocking news: good team sometimes lose to other good teams.. WOW

  11. When you researched the other teams’ records against other top teams, what did you learn?

  12. GingerMcJesus

2 blowouts, 2 losses by <5 points, 1 win. Plus our overall record against >.500 teams is still very good. No I’m not worried

  13. No kp

    Nuggets fully heathy

    Milwaukee b2b off minny game

    No kp

    Fully healthy vs okc

Context is key stop being doomers for no reason

  14. Four of these teams are Western Conference and we don’t face them until the finals. By that point it gets so variable and comes down to health and shooting form, as much as anything.

If you’re asking if I’m worried about the Doc Rivers bucks… no. We will exploit the shit out of Lillard and their defense in a series.

Clippers – No Zinger, flat from the jump. Just didn’t have it.

Denver – Js played poorly offensively. Close game, could’ve gone either way.

Bucks – No Al, 2nd night of a b2b on the road after OT.

    Wolves – W

OKC – Close game, could’ve gone either way. Figured them out a bit in the 4th.

And 4 of the teams are in the west… Celtics can only meet one in the finals.

    Tl;dr I don’t care.

Everything matters. How much it matters is what counts.

    This stat? A little.

Two of those games could have gone either way. One was a throw away game where we had zero energy. Yesterday was by far the most concerning. But it’s one data point out of 50 and I choose to look at the season as a whole where they’ve been phenomenal against both good and bad teams.

The only thing we can conclusively say after last night’s beat down is that the Celtics are not flawless and unbeatable. But you should have known that before then.

    Doesn’t matter as much

Not every game is equal in the reg season. Different motivation depending on the schedule or what’s happened in previous games. Players sitting out, travel days, a game after new years/holiday on the road, home game after a throttling in Miami where they prob enjoyed the night there, etc…

Clippers wanted that game. They normally would rest players on a b2b. They wanted to play. It simply mattered more to them. Celts came out flat with no energy and there’s not much else to it

It’s different when the stakes are the same and teams are preparing for each other over multiple games

  18. Ok_Pineapple466

It matters to the media because pundits need something to talk about. It doesn’t matter to the fans because those are regular season games. At this point we want to win playoff games

  19. ThaEternalLearner

Derrick White is starting to come back down to Earth. In the month of January, White is shooting 38/35/93. I have no doubt that he’ll break out of his slump soon but I don’t think we can realistically expect him to be as efficient as he was earlier in the season.

  20. Ok_Seaweed_9452

On the contrary, any of these top teams has a winning record compared to the Celtics? If no, that means the race is very tight and there is no clear cut winner if the playoff were to start today

  21. Plumpuddin74

Yes. Playing less well against good teams matters in the playoffs

  22. tendadsnokids

I don’t understand how you can even semi-regularly watch this team and think we don’t have as good of a chance as anyone to win a championship.

  23. Beneficial-Feed9999

Minnesota just lost to the spurs last night. Okc lost to Detroit tonight. Guess we should chick their seasons up to a lost they obviously can’t win a championship because of these very specific regular season losses. /s

  24. WeebyWabba

In the bubble of this year, it doesn’t mean anything. When in context of the last 4 years or so, it definitely does.

Tatum gets Kobe brain and jacks up contested off balance 3s against superstars and great teams with good defenses. He then lights up bad defenses and it makes his stats look much better. He’s still young but he’s gotta mature out of it this year or they’re not winning shit.

  25. HueyLewisFan1

Yep. It always matters. Don’t let anyone tell you it doesn’t.

  26. thereal_kphed

its late january and we have the best record in the league. have beaten plenty of good teams. get a grip.

  27. Undesirable_11

Playoff series are also 4 games long at the very least. I doubt that if we make it to the finals we would be able to sweep any of these teams, so we’re gonna have to lose a couple in order to get the chip
