Jayson Tatum: Celtics Needed to Play TOUGHER to Beat Pelicans | Postgame Interview

The way we play in the second half is you know that’s more you know how we’re supposed to play Jason you’ve talked about kind of how you’ve mentored taking some Duke guys under your wing Zion was just talking about the time you visited campus and you know just kind of showed

Them around stuff like that what’s your relationship with him been like and the chances you’ve gotten to go against him in the NBA since he’s arrived yeah I uh I remember being there with Mill um and in was when he uh I think it was like right before school

Started you know when he was about to be a freshman and uh you know just like with with any guy there goes to Duke right um you just kind of want to pay it forward right the guys that looked out for me uh you know when I was at Duke

The Jal oafers Jabari Parkers um guys like that so you just want to you know have like a open door type of mentality with guys that come after you that you know obviously going to be on that same path um you know obviously he had one of

The best years in college basketball for anybody um you know unbelievable guy unbelievable player um so you know I’m happy for him and um excited to see you know with things he continues to do he said he you were right about East Campus yeah that’s where all the

Freshman stay yeah um have you have you kept in touch with him through the ups and downs and just Tred to encourage him through some of the injuries and things he’s gone through uh I mean I I can only imagine right um all the people that try

To reach out or you know want to give advice so you know I’m never going to be overbearing anything like that uh you know I was I spent a couple I spent some time with him this summer in in Paris you know with Jordan brand um so you

Know it’s always good to see him Jason what’s the process like of fighting through the struggles during a game when you start off with a slow first quarter not you but the team just you’re fighting yourself you guys are not playing great ball right now but you’re trying to get

It what’s that like during the game because it obviously in the fourth quarter you found it uh it’s just a process something we talked about at halftime and uh we just had to we just had to play tougher you know New Orleans was they were just too comfortable in

That first half um you know our presence was wasn’t really felt in the beginning and uh we just had to make a series of plays right you know we had to play tougher play with more pace and things like that um and you know basketball is

A game of runs we just had to make some plays and uh you know the crowd got into it and um you know we kind of fed off that and how important is Derek to the offense it seems like he’s going to get open shots because of you and jayen draw

So much attention but when he’s going it just seems like you guys are just that much better of a team yeah um and we need him and everybody to be aggressive and uh in their own way right finding their spots finding their moments you know that’s why we have the guys you

Know who we have on our team um you know everybody sacrifices but you still have to be aggressive you still have to um have imprint on the game and you know when D white is attacking the basket and you know putting pressure on the defense uh that’s great for

Us along those same lines with Derek you know obviously he was in a a big shooting slump uh when you see him kind of break out of that does that give you guys any kind of like energy do you do you have like a level of excitement like yes we you know

Like being happy for your teammate and like finally you know the the the passes the plays that you’re making are paying off yeah uh I mean to answer that question is yes uh and you know Dy is somebody I’m really close with and uh we was walking down the tunnel at halftime

And uh you I just slapped his hand I was like you know we got all our misses out now uh you know we bound to make some so um anybody as talented as he is and can shoot the ball as well as him uh you just continue to take the right shots

And uh you know they eventually fall do you see like in some of these guys maybe Derek maybe somebody else like that you need to to kind of give them some encouragement or is this just something that every you know everybody’s going to work through and and they’ll fall

Eventually yeah I mean you know we all might be super human or whatever but it’s it always helps to you know hear some encouragement from time to time cuz you know you know how hard guys work how bad you know you want to make every single shot and uh you know sometimes

That just do not go your way and you know we’ve all been there and no matter you know how many shots you how much time you put in the gym like sometimes they just don’t go in and it’s frustrating um but you know it’s just good to know that we’ve all been there

And it’s like yo you know just keep shooting keep being yourself um it’s going to work out last question Abby Jason a tough back toback coming up with the Pacers how different are they with SE yakum and just how challenging is it to play a team five times during the regular

Season uh I mean it is challenging five times is a really good team uh you know seaka has a different style right you know they they play really fast and now you know somebody that is as athletic as he is and kind of create U for himself in that bigger Wing

Position um you know it was a great addition to their team and you know every other game we played them so far has been a really good one so you know tomorrow should be fun as well thank you

  3. When Jayson Tatum talks about shots saying that sometimes it won't go in, and yes it doesn't depend on the human being, as he says you can practice for hours and hours and in the end not hit anything in the game, the success of a shot in the basket depends on a physical law…🀭
