[Quinn] I don’t think the Lakers are a championship contender. | I don’t think there is any move they can make that would make a championship contender this season. | I think it would be irresponsible of them to surrender meaningful assets hoping to contend for the 2024 championship.

any roster with ad and lebron playing well can be a contender.

  2. Independent-Ad-3564

foh we’re not punting a lebron/AD healthy season

  3. KingNephew

Heard that story every year since the Brick trade.

  4. boyharsher-

A trade for this team got us to the WCF last year. I’m not saying another trade could get us to the same place, but this season certainly isn’t worth giving up on as long as our two stars are healthy.

  5. unearthyone

biggest problem with not being title contenders is the awfaul head coach we have. nothing else.

  6. isit65outsideor

This is obvious. Unless the Lakers are landing PG or Kawhi in a trade, there isn’t magic trade out there that will get them to the finals.

Lakers in 2020 had health, depth, and LeBron / AD playing insane. Lakers don’t have depth, they have a worse coach, and LeBron and AD will need to stay healthy for 5 more months.

    It’s not happening.

  7. BlksShotz

The offensive coaching and misappropriation of minutes are the issues.

  8. SixGunChimp

Good thing the buck doesn’t stop with Sam Quinn, huh?

  9. Checkmynewsong

I think Gabe coming back and a decent coach will turn this team around. Unfortunately Gabe probably isn’t coming back until at least March and it’s gonna be a steady diet of ham pockets until we riot.

  10. Knickert19

Replace the Coach and we will be in the Mix, as long as lbj and ad are healthy season shouldnt be over

  11. LoveTheHustleBud

Most healthy our stars have been since 19-20. Consistently getting 3rd scoring production from either reaves or dlo all year. Still losing games.

Theres obviously a level lebron lifts himself to in the playoffs (we saw it vs lac a week or so ago), so I disagree we can’t contend. But it’s not an unfair point to make.

The heat AND lakers showed last year you just need to make the playoffs and anything that happened in the regular season no longer matters. The lakers this season have beat good teams, made giant comebacks and have had great moments but Ham is a huge problem. Couches have an effect on the end result. Warriors game could have had a 15 point swing if Vando had just started. Most games could have a 4-6 point swing if Ham would just call a timeout. Some of the lineups overall have just been terrible during the game where it kills the offense and defense. Shoot lakers have been in super close games, Ham could have swung the game by 2 points just by calling an actual set play

Don’t care what Sam “thinks”. Here’s what we KNOW.

    LeBron is 39.

    AD is in his prime.

You can’t afford to punt the season.

Rectification : The DARVIN HAM’s Lakers are not a championship contender. Very important nuance.

  15. RiversofJell0

They’re not even a playoff contender at this point. Ham did a shit job plus some injuries dig too much of a hole. Last year was different where it clearly was just Russ being a bad fit. Now Ham has squandered any chance of this team reaching full potential by overplaying Prince and Cam all season.

  16. Well… if this guy said it, it must be true. Shut it down, guys!

  17. TheWhisperingDeath

Playoffs are a different thing altogether.

Look at Lakers and Heat last season. They were both on verge of missing out on playoffs. One went to NBA Finals. Other to Western Conference Finals.

As long as you have healthy LeBron and AD in playoffs, you can compete against anyone and with luck who knows what can happen.

I would have understood if LeBron and AD were in their 20s or something. But LeBron is 40 and AD is 30+ with history of injuries. You don’t know how long they can keep playing at the level of Top-10 players. But they are doing it right now. So you have to go ALL IN.

  18. number1tomselleckfan

I don’t think he makes it through the road trip.

    Sam Quinn, seriously?

More clickbait this sub will probably eat up.

This team was in the WCF last year after just being pulled together.

The doomerism is out of control.

  20. Quinn doesn’t know shit.

We went to the WCF with an 80% Lebron last year.

Give Lebron a fully healthy lakers team with some nice pieces and watch the magic unfold.

We are not punting this season.

  21. Zealousideal-Tea-837

He may be right. Idk but the biggest problem is probably the coach who they aren’t going to fire

  22. booobieaddict

doomers said this before the season started when all the signings/trades were done…. and this sub shit on them for it… mfers made post here with titles like “are we the deepest team in the league”

  23. You know how other teams punt their season and rebuild by trading their superstars for a bunch of picks and more depth? Lakers just don’t do that. So we have to keep going for it while we have a healthy Bron and AD playing well. The other players around them just aren’t good enough in a loaded West.

  24. ZuesAgeddon

I can see them moving Dlo because of contract reasons. But the only move that can move the needle for this Laker team is to change coaches.

  25. Soviet_Sharpshooter

So what then, should we just shut down LeBron and AD for the rest of the season and tank for a better draft pick?? What’s the alternative here if we’re not trying to compete

  26. Humanistic_

The coach that refuses to play the WCF lineup and insists on giving Prince more minutes than Rui is the problem. Not the roster

  27. thesonicvision

**Reasons to not give up on the season** and to try to contend now:

    * Bron is 39, and at any moment can take a serious dip (or be forced to retire)
    * With the Bron-AD duo, LAL won as recently a 2020 and made it to the WCF last year (’22-’23)
    * Both Bron and AD have had MVP-level stretches this year
    * No guarantee that the summer of ’24 will be a great market for LAL
    * D-lo’s stock is high, AR’s stock is high; they could both dip greatly in a few months
    * History has shown that midseason trades can completely change a team’s fortunes (especially for Bron-led teams)

  28. Kobe_stan_

That’s what everyone said last year and yet we went to the Western Conference finals. If Lebron and AD are healthy, they have a chance, no matter what else is happening on the roster.

  29. frobebryant92

I disagree. If we can get one more center that’s more defensive focused then we can be a serious contender. And maybe replace Ham but I doubt the Front Office will do that mid season lol.

  30. Hungry-Space-1829

This was said all of last year then they made it to the WCF and lost to the champions, but somehow bc they’re the lakers people are talking about that like a failure

  31. Ok_Concentrate_75

How many championship contenders has he personally called correctly? What a dumb take before even the all star break. They literally were saying this right before we traded Westbrook and went on a run…hot take twitter is tiring lol
