[Amick] People within the Sixers’ organization believe Joel Embiid forced himself to play through injuries due to the scrutiny he received in recent days: “He looked like a player who pushed himself to play against Golden State because the whole basketball world was screaming in his ear.”

> You could see it long before he was hurt against the Warriors. Embiid, who missed Philadelphia’s game at Portland on Monday night, looked like a player who pushed himself to play against Golden State because the whole basketball world was screaming in his ear. There are people within the Sixers who are convinced that he played only because of all the scrutiny.

  1. This just makes Embiid look soft and that he cares too much about what the media thinks about him. Haters are gonna love this one.

Sixers PR is fucking retarded as usual.

EDIT: Post hit /r/NBA and surprise surprise comments are all calling him soft LOL

as kyle neubeck said on last night’s post game, if there is no one in the organization that can talk to him and help him realize what is truly important here, its an indictment of the entire organization.

  3. Fire the staff who knew he was crook and cleared him anyway

Cant believe the narrative spin to try and make this the medias fault

  4. TornManingus

Two things can be true at once. 1.) Embiid faced unfair criticism for Denver, and it’s understandable that he cares about how he’s viewed 2.) Somebody NEEDS to be able to step in to stop him from playing in that game. He should have never been on the court in the first place, but even then, bringing him in during the 4th quarter after he already looked hurt – completely indefensible and an indictment on all levels.

  5. BassGuru82

It is the kind of mentality you want from your Star player… but that is why you need leadership to tell him that he can’t play.

also just a point to add to the general discourse. amick is generally a good writer and a smart guy, the fact that he has realized, like 4 days after making a bunch of unfair critiques of embiid, that maybe those critiques were misguided, could be a lesson to a lot of the idiots in the media, especially those who dont follow the team every day, to maybe just tone it down a bit and focus less on generating clicks with hot takes in the heat of the moment and do some investigating and research first. i know that wont happen, but one can hope

  7. Why is this on Embiid?!? They’re athletes and competitors, of course they are going to want to play! Looks at any other sport and you’ll see athletes that want to play through injuries all the time. People had the power here to stop him (coaching and medical staff) and they didn’t. You already knew something had was going to happen before the 4Q injury

  8. Thegrandmistressofoz

I mean dawg, if the medical staff could rule him out of the Denver game they could rule him out of the GSW game.

But it’s a damned if you do damned if you don’t for Joel at this point. Even this sub thought he was ducking the Denver game instead of an actual injury…

  9. Background-Cress9165

Shut him the fuck down until the playoffs, or until he’s 100%. Whichever comes first

  10. HoodieEmbiid

Joel ALWAYS has played through nagging injuries. This discourse is braindead

  11. kevinwhackistone

This is such weak shit. Weak minded. Want to win people over? Be healthy for the fucking playoffs. Keep the main thing the main thing.

    Pathetic pathetic stuff.

  12. jamhamram

Chris Vernon spent 20′ yesterday venting about Embiid being an embarrassment to basketball yesterday. KOC was a bit more level headed.

Again so much barking about Embiid caring too much about the regular season, “do it in the playoffs,” how dare you care about awards related to being the best, and pace yourself. Yet, he sits out while hobbled and get out the pitchforks. Make up your minds.

As an example, the media waves the Jimmy flag every playoffs and disregards his lack of reg season effort and games played. Nothing is consistent here, except the Joel hate and you can pick a reason, this, free throws, somehow the process being of his creation, etc. Move on

  13. godofhammers3000

The basketball world was screaming his ear about ducking Jokic in Denver

If anything if he rested against the Warriors it would mean the ducking allegations hold less weight and that there was an actual injury concern

  14. Weak-Cable-4672

They pay an entire medical staff a lot of money to prevent the athletes from making these decisions on their own.

  15. PrimasChickenTacos

I was going to type out a long winded reply to this, but: this just sucks. The organization should really assess their approach toward injury management and communication. At this point there needs to be ownership involvement to help determine a policy going forward.

  16. LionelHutz802203

And this sums up the Sixers as an organization. If they were a quality organization they stand by their player, keep him ON THE BENCH, and create an environment where he doesn’t feel like he needs to let the talking heads dictate his play. This doesn’t happen in Miami, Golden State, Boston etc….

  17. Street-Common-4023

Hopefully they shut him down till after the all start break

  18. This isn’t embiid fault. This is the toxic nba media and toxic NBA subreddit/ Twitter idiots fault and the sixers medical staffs fault. I’m fucking tired of this toxicity

  19. JiveTurkey2727

Sixers need John Taffer on staff to tell Embiid to “SHUT IT THE FUCK DOWN” when necessary.

  20. TempleofSpringSnow

Absolutely fuck jealous fans of other teams that couldn’t shut up

  21. BlueAc215

Blame it on the organization for not going ahead and putting him out for a few weeks. That day to day shit opened him up for the criticism.

  22. AggressiveLender

No fucking shit. Embiid needs to zone that shit out

  23. RelevantTreacle3004

So Embiid is getting criticized for a similar mentality to all time greats like Kobe?
