  1. Not saying we should change the rule, but these guys weren’t winning awards when they were sitting out a ton of games.

  2. > it wasnt like Kawhi Leonard who dropped 38, then inexplicably cant play the next game, even though he looked fine walking off the court

    didnt Kawhi tear his meniscus?

  3. Pocket_Beans

He’s saying exactly what we’ve all been saying for years but people will disagree because it’s Stephen A

  4. xpillindaass

damn he really hates kawhi lmao basically suggested he was load managing in the playoffs

  5. PanthalassaRo

When the person you hate the most makes a banger of an argument.

  6. AD missed half a season to force a trade to LA so he isnt wrong necessarily.

  7. MetroExodus2033

Implies? What do you mean implies? This is a truth. There’s no “implying” about it. We know why some of these guys sit out. They tell us. It’s not a secret.

  8. Majiebeast

They are allowed to miss 20ish% of games and still be eligible for mvp, its more then fair.

  9. AfterPaleontologist2

Does anyone have the numbers regarding the average number of games played in the 80s or 90s compared to now? I’m sure it’s significant. How do you explain it? You can say players play a lot more at a younger age, but you could also make the argument for advancements in medicine and travel.

  10. peezy2408

Haliburton saying it’s stupid bc if he doesn’t make an all nba team he misses out on 54 million lol I’d say that’s stupid too

  11. NaLu_LuNa_FairyPiece

I swear if I ever buy a ticket to a game and the millionaire I Wana watch most sits out because he wants to chill out instead of dribble and shoot a ball.. yea 65 limit and more rules need to be done.

If 40 year old injured no knees Michael Jordan can play 82 games 37 minutes a game, these younger dudes can play.

  12. Dull_Entrance9946

This is getting overblown. The rule change was good. If players don’t like it, they can bring it up at the CBA or miss out on bonus money in a contract they signed.

  13. aguas_freskas

No shit, if any of us had the choice of doing less work for the same money we would do exactly that.

  14. ThatFunkyOdor

The culprit at the center of this is that the players in the NBA now grew up being worked to death on AAU circuits because their parents want them to be professional athletes so their bodies have half a career’s worth of mileage on them when they get to the NBA.

  15. EPLemonSqueezy

I can’t stand him but he’s obviously right. All these guys who’ve been load managing for years have all suddenly been cured and are able to play every game. It’s not rocket surgery.

  16. _uper_nknown

He’s right. The NBA is an entertainment and so entertain.

  17. SixGunChimp

AD has played more games than all of them over the past year…

  18. kemar7856

The rule has to be in place and 65 games is pretty lenient imo

  19. The fact that Kawhi Leonard has played almost every single game this season now that the 65 rule is in place and he’s in a contract year is fascinating to say the least

  20. Joeyfairplayer23

He’s right. The NBA has been making the fans take it up the rear end for awhile now

[Steph touched on this not too long ago, but naturally it’s the players who are the bad guys ](https://www-cbssports-com.cdn.ampproject.org/v/s/www.cbssports.com/nba/news/warriors-steph-curry-explains-important-misconception-about-nba-load-management-debate/amp/?amp_gsa=1&amp_js_v=a9&usqp=mq331AQIUAKwASCAAgM%3D#amp_tf=From%20%251%24s&aoh=17067236263261&referrer=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.google.com&ampshare=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.cbssports.com%2Fnba%2Fnews%2Fwarriors-steph-curry-explains-important-misconception-about-nba-load-management-debate%2F)

“I campaign to play every game,” Curry said. “That’s the misconception about load management and how it goes. It’s never the player that’s saying, ‘Hey, I want to sit.’ For all those people worried about that part of our league and all that, it’s usually not the player that’s going to the training staff and saying, ‘Hey, I don’t have it tonight.’ It’s usually the other way around and there’s a lot of science involved.”

  22. TinnieTa21

I actually thought that 65 games was a little too generous. 70 seemed fair to me. 20% of a season just seems like a lot.

  23. waconaty4eva

Why can’t the Nba have a sit out rule? If you sit out, its gotta be a week.

  24. finstockton

Weird that Kawhi is the face of this when he’s got legitimate chronic knee issues. Not to mention the KD’s Achilles tear and PG’s broken leg are the types of injuries that players tend to either not come back from or at best come back hobbled meanwhile all three of these guys are still all star level. I also think it’d be cool if they could play in the range of 70 games per season instead of 40-50 but I’d rather have half a season of Kawhi playing than none tbh.

  25. Donquix0teDoflaming0

Nah he spittin. 65 game limit is the best thing they’ve done in a while. You shouldn’t be awarded for missing 1/3 of the season

  26. theseustheminotaur

Keep in mind that basketball is supposed to be the sport that SAS knows best

  27. Sad-Mathematician-19

Back to backs need to be eliminated almost entirely. Only home back to backs should be allowed so there is no complaining about B2B’s being difficult for guys with injury histories like Zion for example.

I get going from one city to another over night possibly aggravating your sleep which can result in less repair for your body. But if you are not flying out and getting a good nights sleep, no reason to miss a home back to back.

  28. Haunting-Worker-2301

It feels like players often forget that at the end of the day, the NBA is a business and the only reason it is profitable is if these guys play when they can.

Obviously there is a scale and you can’t play injured, but the literal only reason you’re making money is because people watch the NBA. You are totally dependent on people being interested to make any money. It’s entertainment. Silver understands that if players start missing for bumps and bruises the quality goes down and eventually people will stop watching as much.

Then NBA stars will wonder why their contracts don’t keep going up.

  29. He couldve made the same point without naming players that have had legit injuries. Why didnt he mention Lebron since he been in LA too if he was just going to name people that have been injured.

  30. conzcious_eye

One of the best takes I’ve seen him compose. This is fucking facts and sad from a fans standpoint. Took my my son and daughter to see watch the hawks at the wizards and was disappointed. Luckily the tickets was cheap af and my kids enjoyed the experience but did not get my money worths.

  31. koplowpieuwu

The solution is to get rid of financial consequences to making all-nba but nobody is ready to have that conversation

  32. broke-collegekid

I mean I think the obvious compromise that most people would be good with (except the owners) is having the minimum in place for awards but not having those awards directly tie into contracts players are eligible to receive.

  33. GillbergsAdvocate

    >I’m not talking about anybody whos had legitimate injuries

Proceeds to name 4 of the most injury-prone players in the league

  34. 3entendre

I mean, the regular season is trash. There are no trophies given for winning the most regular season games. Fix that and you’d see guys playing more. Also, as a fan of European football, having a league without relegation incentivises stuff like this. The contenders know the main games are in the playoffs. The mediocre teams are just being mediocre. The bottom teams know they’ll be rewarded for being trash. So why is anyone surprised when players and coaching staff don’t take the regular season seriously?

  35. JeramiGrantsTomb

A lot of people in these comments seem to be missing the point of this rule, and maybe the entire league… The 65 game minimum is not about what someone deserves. Someone playing 64 games could definitely “deserve” it more than someone playing 82 games. And it’s not about making sure that players are paid what they deserve. This is 100% about making players play, and nothing else. The superstar contracts are tied to the awards, the awards are tied to playing the game, and people wanting to see the games are tied to the superstars playing the games. So the league mandates a games-played minimum to try to guarantee a valuable entertainment product to sell tickets and commercial spots.

  36. Used-Caregiver2364

I mean Stephen A is right here.

Stop bitching about being required to do your job. These players are so soft.

Haliburton losing respect from NBA fans everywhere with that moronic comment

  37. tawayfast

Michael Jordan came back from a 3 year retirement at the age of 38 to the Wizards and played 60 games his first season and then 82 games his second. He averaged 34.9mpg then 37mpg for his second season.

    # 3 years RETIRED CAME BACK AT THE AGE OF 39 AND PLAYED ALL 82 GAMES 37MPG AVERAGING 20PPG.

    Michael Jordan is different.

  38. Kawhis only playing more games now because he’s been actually healthy for a change.

  39. squeaky_rum_time

Can we not share anything Stephen A please? What’s next? Skip Bayliss?
