Be happy happy with that uh be be happy with with the win ended up the game with another high number of assists uh ball movement was good um got a lot of good stuff to to learn from and then get better at Toronto struggled to contain Chicago in the first half defensively

Allowing the Bulls to 63 points in the first half but they stayed in the game thanks to Gary Trent Jr who scored a season High 13 points in the first quarter and finished the game with 24 on 60% shooting this is another good game in a stretch of good games for Trent who

Is knocking down over 50% of his threes in the month of January but if the Raptors really wanted to win this game under man they needed to do better defensively and in the second half they adjusted it’s it’s a work in progress uh and there there are moments that we do

It really well and there are moments that that definitely we need to go back to to film and back to practice and then continue getting better uh we we did it uh we did it better you know our Focus was on on very high alert uh we stay

Down on shot fakes we were able to contain uh in some of those situations on uh against U the Rosen and then at the end of the game we went last couple of minutes we we every time we trap him and wanted to get the ball out of his

Hands if anybody else is going to beat us they’re going to beat us but we didn’t want the Rosen tonight to be the guy the Raptors gave up just 44 points in the second half and that was in large part due to their connectiveness on the perimeter on defense defense between

Know it doesn’t matter to me but my mindset is always just do the best job I can and then live with the results I can I can speak about Ted Young uh for for whole night you know uh it’s not just like what he does on the court it’s

Everything that he does of the Court as well you know this whole season when he was not playing uh he was not in rotation he always stayed in shape he was always part of the play groups he always was the right voice for our team he was always building our guys and um

Points four rebounds seven assists and shot 29% from the field and had five turnovers but I think it was an important process game for him as he grows into the number one option for this team and that is what we’re going to talk about in the film room number

One on The Scouting Report is going to be Scotty barns on most nights for the foreseeable future for your Toronto Raptors and he is going to have to get used to the different coverages that he deals with primarily just seeing more bodies every time he’s the primary

You know guarding Scotty and the help comes over immediately from Scott from demard De R rozan Scotty sees the pass here the clear passes to Bruce Brown The Cutting Bruce Brown to get this shot but again I think he needs to just be quicker with his decisions uh that was

Evident tonight just that some of his decision- making especially in the first half he had five turnovers um he struggled in that department I think for a guy who doesn’t necessarily have the best ball handling ability maybe starting off as this sort of back to the basket guard is an interesting element

And a cool wrinkle to add to things you know being able to just bully initially without having to really trust your handle and here he is just gets by bullies his way to the rim through IOD dumu another turnover here for Scotty just late to see the double and forcing

The pass it was Ill advised in that moment again really great defense by Alex cuso on this possession just not letting up against Scotty and yanking the chair so Scotty likes to Leverage his power and his strength but it’s hard to do that when Caruso is constantly

Yanking the chair and here he is almost gets away with the travel and tries to hit the like off The Spot Runner and didn’t get to do that still whenever he does make the right and quick decision good things happen here he is you know they show as immediately as he gets the

Switch and then and then passes it to war who makes the three and I think this is an interesting uh example of what I mean by the amount of attention that Scotty is dealing with so they send him through staggered pick and rolls here noira is the first screener and he slips

Ghost the screen if you will to pop out then Thad Young comes this is a pick and roll and so if you were to just look at it right noira isn’t getting respected here for that shot Kobe white has his eyes peeled on Scotty Barnes watching

And really pinching in here to help at the nail also Thad young at the role you know he’s actually popping a little bit here to a mid-range shot but then he rolls sort of late to the basket regardless he is not drawing dad at least is not drawing any help he’s not

The ball and while that led to some turnovers it also led to a much better second half for Scotty here he is gets downhill draws two quickly sees Bruce Brown makes that pass his decisiveness is what makes Scotty such a unique player right here he is you know in the

Post draws two quickly kicks it out to Thad young they reset they look for Scotty once again and Scotty Scotty attacks bvi’s off foot gets him into post position misses but good tip in from Thad young there because vvi had to sell out on the drive here he is once again

Another great decision so gets into the post draws two quickly kicks it to Schroeder Schroeder misses this three but that’s a really really great look good offense generated same thing here quick pitch pack pass and Schroeder gets downhill for the layup this time does the early work in transition gets IOD

Dumu deep in post position and gets the foul call as I said some of those quick decisions also come with drawback so here he is tries to get the back door cut Caruso just pokes it out turn over this time against IO and the post takes

Him all the way to the inside gets good positioning but just just misses the floater but again some of that decision- making was a little a step too late here so you know pick and roll action Scotty gets the switch he gets downhill he draws a bunch of Health at this point he

Could kick out to Bruce Brown for a three or even Gary Trent Jr but instead tries to go through in traffic against the Giants and uh gets the nice you know backside contest from demaro R rozan for the turnover but again here empty side post up against dear you know draws the

Help and a beautiful pass to Thad young so there are good things that can happen on these possessions as well a little bit later on same thing empty side post up and the Bulls quickly send help from the top of the key Scotty Waits a little

Bit too long to make this pass and he doesn’t have the greatest Escape dribble either yet so the Bulls just trap him at the sideline he makes a really really ill advised pass to that young and that’s a turnover literally the exact same thing once again so this time empty

Side post up against dear Caruso is sending help from the top and you just see Scotty sort of runs out of options here decides to throw a jump pass Raptors are scrambling travel call on Dennis Schroeder but again you know also some good things happening here so here

He is gets the switch against Nicola vuvi this time and just darts a pass to Thad Young Who finishes on the inside and another great connection between him and that and I I just think you know this was a great process game for Scotty because he had to in real time figure

Out what was working and what didn’t okay so the empty side pick and rules you know we’re trying to do like a mid post situation that wasn’t working a couple of turnovers but okay maybe I can do it this way figuring it out in real time is an important skill to have as

You’re developing into this number one option and you know number one option is such an ambiguous term I actually was just talking to Samson about this the other day it’s like what do we even Define as the number one option traditional conventional thought would say you know number one option is the

Star player on a team you know can become Finals MVP etc etc is Scotty going to become that who knows loads of potential I have no idea but this is the growing pains that Scotty will have to deal with as he tries to figure out as

He paves his own path in this journey of becoming the final product that he will be in the next five or six years it’s it’s figuring out how you’re going to stack up these skills stack up these little quirks because you need to you need to get used to how other teams are

Going to guard you and tonight they show tons of help there was tons of pressure on him to create for others and what he has to do is make quicker decisions in those moments I think he learned that and in the fourth quarter we saw he was making faster decisions yeah it caused

Some turnovers for him but it also helped them win this game because he made some really really great passes so it is a learning curve ladies and gentlemen it is a process for the Toronto Raptors and for Scotty Barnes there will be games where he is

Excellent 30 10 and 10 he just dominates he looks like the allstar all NBA player that many expect him to be and there will be nights like tonight where he struggles to finish on the inside can’t deal with the post uh the the doubles isn’t able to make the quickest

Decisions isn’t really comfortable in the spots that he’s usually comfortable in and it’s all a learning process uh I thought the game in general was fun to watch just the fact that Jordan wara punched in for 17 points again off of the bench you know it seems like he

Might be a rotation player that they can throw in there I think even when they do get healthy and quickly and Barrett and yakob come back I think there’s a spot on this team for war to at least get some Run for the rest of the season um I

Thought you know not like the biggest or loudest Grady game but the fact that he was just solid in the stin that he had another you know good check mark opportunity developmentally I think when it comes to Thad young shout out to him and it’s really important to have

Players that can do the things that he does Step Up to the plate I mean everybody Raves about Thad around the Raptors organization when you talk to anybody they’re like this is a guy that has been so important to everything they do um the same applies to Garrett Temple

The same applies to UT Porter Jr having these veterans even Dennis Schroeder when you talk to people around the Raptors they’re like these are the guys that are the coaches who aren’t the coaches and maybe sometimes actually a lot of times that is more important than
