This MB thing is serious and Max he’s in and out of the lineup and just to tease a little bit he said no and he said that that he’s like the cabs could build quite a gap between Philadelphia and Cleveland and the standings and it could

Turn into a battle between New York and Cleveland for third and maybe Milwaukee for two depending on how that shakes out Cavs Grizzlies to me comes down to two players really two people Caris LeVert who was really good key made some tough shots in this game and I think JB

Bicker staff for going small with Dean Wade at the to claws out this game he could have gone back to Damen Jones he could have I mean that was kind of his only option Evan Moy doesn’t play in this game as he’s on an injury maintenance

Plan Jared Allen has been ill and you know isn’t available for for late in this game MH so you either play Damen Jones or you go small and and ride Dean Wade and I like that bicker step went with Wade at the five and lead into what

Was really giving this team success and even if it’s not exactly I think how this team is naturally built to play or or how I think he would optimally want to play with as a head coach so where do you want to start do you want to go

Levert do you want to go biera is there something else that pops to you for this one I mean in the limited run he did have I need to look at his official minutes as I talk he played 15 minutes but Damen Jones wasn’t as bad as maybe he had been

At times he had 7.6 rebounds three blocks an assists two fouls and two turnovers just to list off all the counting stats uh two four from the floor three of three from the free throw line Jared Allen as you had mentioned um had a left ankle spring according to the broadcast

About close to he left like early end of the third um and then close to the end of the third quarter seror Winters said that the Cavs considered him Del F the left ankle ankle sprain and at least for me um we can talk about biger staff and

You know tinkering with the lineups and stuff if they don’t want look at looking at ahead to the game against San Antonio at least next on the schedule if they don’t want to throw wem’s direct or Evan Moi directly at wemi while moob is still recovering with his knee um Damen Jones

Is in like a bad stop spot start and at least if you’re Cleveland you hope and pray that uh Allan can get back to the court sooner rather than later just with you know the just the team can’t seems to always have a player that out with

Injury but Jones looked okay for me and just like the limited minutes he did play and I think that’s the right call and then like you said if you find something that works like credit where credits do JB picker staff didn’t stick with tall ball he played small and I

Think Dean Wade playing the five worked really well for them he was really functional and um sure like counting stats wise Wade wasn’t super impressive but he led the team in plus minus so like you can really crystallize the defensive impact he had there and I just think that stretchiness that he gives

You as a shooting threat really helped against a team like Memphis that didn’t have a lot of shooting spots or shoot shooting caliber players other than like jiren Jackson Jr at the forward position or maybe Santi Alama but he’s more of a three4 player but no it was a right call by Baker

Staff to kind of exploit some of the mismatches and matchups in this game and it really worked out in their favor yeah I I Wade and didn’t have like the big Dean Wade game we have seen from him of late uh that when he’s had success of late it

Has been he takes a lot of Threes he makes enough shots this was not that kind of performance he had six points he was two of five from three and two of five from the field overall just had the five boards and but did have two steals

Did have two blocks and and even though it didn’t result in a bucket there was the jump ball after the the challenge in the fourth quarter where he pokes away from jiren Jackson Jr and at least Donovan Mitchell misses the layup on the end of it but that was like a a thing

Wade created and then I think you look at Levert Darius Garland was not nearly I thought his composers qualities he was in his return he looked the first half in particular was was a bad dairy scarland half it was very reminiscent of I think a lot of the bad play and bad

Habits we’d seen from him to start the year it’s okay you don’t have he’s on a minute restriction you don’t have him all the way you go to Levert and Levert has 16 he makes a ton of tough shots and he’s making just plays that you needed

To with these really given moments like sometimes that is just what you need you can look at s Marell giving you some stuff or Coro giving you some stuff um you know stru giving you some stuff had a double double in this game had the four assist as well everyone just kind

Of chipped in Levert ends up I think being kind of the cherry on top of the the everyone’s chipping in all handson deck Sunday that that got c a win here yeah um I definitely agree with that I think Um just the Cavs continue to find guys that can step up in the right way I think Sam Merill hitting a lot of Big Time three-pointers down the stretch I mean was beneficial I mean he was the other than Donovan Mitchell he made the most three-pointers tonight but like Caris

Also as you had noted like was a spark plug for Cleveland and was a good counterbalance to Donovan Mitchell kind of handling some of the playmaking and Lead ball handling responsibilities because yeah Darius Garland looked like he was fatigued he had seven and nine um just was not very

Impactful when he was on the floor and I think it’s just part of this struggles with getting back into actual in-game shape which is it’s going to take time but you know playing a second game of a back toback after having that emotional High maybe some of the emotional

Hangover of getting back on the floor and playing your first NBA game in a month and a half like it’s already hard to get up for to begin with of that but like you’re dealing with the fatigue of playing a game the night before he was right up against his minute liit Li

Limit for this game against Memphis and also was like play 20ish minutes or so against the Pistons the night before like I’m not overwhelmingly surprised that Garland was kind of out of it um I think him turning over the ball and maybe being a little bit careless at

Times maybe trying to force things just to kind maybe get the offense going or maybe just kind of find some momentum for himself could have been a little tricky but I think just you know the combination of Levert Mitchell uh through stepping up at certain possessions too then of course Sam

Merill being a bit of a revelation Off the Bench was enough just to kind of keep Cleveland to float especially after they lost Allen who is a has been a pillar for them on both ends of the floor just in terms of scoring and just defensive any concern over over

DG just needs to play himself back into shape um we saw a lot of the it’s like at the beginning of that Pistons game he came out looking very fresh with a set of fresh legs also just like really hot like he didn’t press or force it too

Much which is really good um and more importantly um he was hitting like a lot of the stuff that we were kind of used to him hitting and also like he was just moving the ball in a certain way like he had that presence and pace and mentality

And I just think looking at this game like he was already kind of just uh his steam was kind of leaving his engine he was tapering off against the Pistons and it kind of continued against the Grizzlies as well and like he did have moments in

The second half when he did play but like I I wasn’t overwhelmingly surprised he just needs to kind of get back into ingame shape and then continue to maybe find his comfort and familiarity with how the Cavs are functioning offensively now I’m a little I’m I would say I’m a tad concerned just

Because I think not not in a big big picture sense but I think just the way he played at the beginning of the year and leading into this was not it it was very similar to some of the very bad Darius Garland stuff we saw ear the year and there’s just some

Things I don’t expect out of him that he has done this year where you want to see him break those habits but it’s game to back and I think you got to give him I think you’re right and he’s probably he definitely is a little bit Rusty the

Last known on Dean Wade Cavs had used him at Center and only 71 possessions for the entire season coming into this game uh it was a look that they just hadn’t really played and it was very mismatch lineups even among those 71 possessions ranging from one possession

To lineups with nine so there’s just a bunch of stuff that they’ve had to use at random times with different guys and it worked here and I give JB a I think a lot of credit again for willing willing to pull that lever and and trusting that

It that it would work and and taking a little bit of a risk sometimes you got to take those dice rolls all right coming up after this Donovan Mitchell is an All-Star Jared Allen at least for now is not we’ll talk about that and Allstar snubs in general after this

The the the other East reserves named Damen l Tyrese halberton these are starters Lillard halberton Tatum Yannis and embiid we’ll get to embiid in a second and in segment three are starters and then as as reserves you have bam adio Palo banero Jaylen Brown Jaylen Brunson Tyrese Maxi

And Julius Randle who also missed this game uh we hit on on Mitch a little bit yesterday but I mean five All-Star games in a row for him two in a row for Cleveland I I think it is worth remembering that even if you want to if

It’s fair to nitpick him times and and all that stuff this is just like a flat out really really good player who’s been one of the League’s best for half a decade now there is something to that and understanding that I think even if you wonder what his ceiling or or how he

Ultimately fits in the overall hierarchy and what that kind of looks like and it’s a nice twofer as well because he uh secured Eastern Conference player of the month honors as well for his just averages in the month of January and guiding Cleveland to an 11 and2 record

In that stretch as well well including that eight game winning streak but yeah I think half a decade of continued success and just you know continually just being a dominant offensive force is impressive in of itself I think Mitchell just being so consistently RedHot like this is impressive too um it’s always

Tough when breaking down like who did or did make the All-Star game like I’m sure people are going to be a little in their feels that sabonis norfox didn’t make it um me I am I am one of those people car Carl Anthony to what are we doing sabon

Put sabonis in that darn All-Star game it’s like honestly that’s there’s none in the East I feel that way about sabonis are Fox not being in and capping in is just like what like what are what what are we doing I don’t I I don’t get

It well the East I could make the argument that Trey young um should probably have gotten a little bit more consideration just CU he’s averaging 26 and 10 and I know like he’s not a favorite of most fans unless you enjoy the Hawks and maybe some coaches really

Do not enjoy how he plays but like you do need need to recognize the fact that he has been a very very good player um from the beginning of his career but I agree with you just like in the Eastern reserves like Trey young could be on the

Outside looking in as well I think did he could be a logical candidate to join the Eastern Conference bracket especially Julius Randall likely not playing with that shoulder injury the Joel andb news really throws things up in the air that miniscus injury that he’s dealing with so yeah we’ll see what happens but

Um it’s fun um I think it’s just it’s always fun uh just to see like this and for your point about Donovan Mitchell I 100% agree like I always knew he was good um I was a bit of a jazz hater in the playoffs just thinking like oh they’re like the Payton Manning

Indianapolis Colts where they’re always really good in the regular season then they just you know completely flame out in the postseason um but Mitchell for me just like watching him one-on-one and just like every single game with the Cavs and stuff like he is the real deal

And to your point like I think that really does crystallize how like special he’s been from when he’s come to the league it’s it is a half decade of continued success four times as a reserve for the All-Star Game and one time last year as a starter um and I

Just don’t really ever see him slowing down either if it’s through the fan vote or the coach’s vote just because like he’s continuously just really good let’s go to Allan so you you mentioned try young as a candidate but Julius Randle is not going to play Joel

Embiid I is not going to play with that with the miniscus injury if you go big for big and if you say okay we’re and we don’t know what they’ll do I you’d have to go back and and look at the full Replacements I believe Allan when he got in was a

Replacement for I can’t remember who he replaced when he came in but he was a replacement for someone his Allstar season I’m going to in his first Allstar season a couple years back so I’m going to check uh I think it was hard was it Harden I think we just talked about this

And I think it was Harden pretty sure regard this so we don’t know if they’re going to go big for big we don’t know if it’s going to be okay you lost two bigs we have to put two front cor players in if they do do that if that’s

The way that they opt to do this it should be Jared Allen and it should be Chris EPS porzingis if you go big for big there’s not another logical big option in the Eastern I it didn’t hit my mind until you just mentioned his name now I’m like

That’s valid he’s he I had him on my like actual allar I’m porz I’ve been porzingis uh pilled I think is where I’ve ended up with him a little bit but I I think if you’re looking at cou should be in there if you’re not going

To have if you’re going to go too for big for big Allen should be in there and poringa should be in there and and you know you can’t do you can’t swap over conferences and and all that stuff but I think if you’re going to go big for big

It’s Allen and porzingis and and maybe Trey young gets in there maybe he’s the other name among Eastern Conference guys but I just there there’s a there feels like there’s a decent chance Jared Allen ends up being an All-Star anyway Health providing of course now that he has his ankle

Spring yeah I so It’s Tricky just because like if he’s already injured that I think would take in he you know knock on would hope he’s not out for super long but like let’s say he’s injured up to and through the All-Star break or whenever they name the alternates or replacement

Um if he’s hurt like it kind of just like completely axes his chances cuz the NBA will just probably pick a healthy guy that can just fill in the spot for him but or the any of the injured players but yeah um Allen should get some serious consideration the poringa

Shouts a good one I think Trey young should get some consideration too I’m still I mean we’ll see with like what happens with halberton too or even like Tyrese Maxi if he does or doesn’t play just because like he is a little bit banged up as well so there are cracks

And opportunities and avenues for other players to get like serious consideration but like we talked about this on Thursday’s show and I had tweeted it before they even announced it saying like Donovan Mitchell’s for sure going to be elected as a reserve like he’s just been playing out of his mind

Once again this season and he’s Cleveland’s best player especially during the stretch without Garland and Mobley out there and then I said before this ankle sprain of course um Allen’s Best Shot is just as an injury replac and I didn’t even think of porzingis when I said that that’s a

Great shout on your part like he’s playing very well too but I don’t know we we’ll see what happens even in the trey young case like somebody could say like okay or like coaches could elect or whoever they do the selection process like could say Derek white could make a

Case for that too and like that might really rub some fans the wrong way but I don’t know that’s just the nature of the Beast and I think more than anything I just I always will be of the camp and mentality the NBA should expand the rosters for allar

And just like let it be fun it’s supposed to be a celebration of the best players and it’s more fun for the fans than there’s just everybody everybody’s favorite players on the biggest stage get to play One Night in the middle of the NBA season so if you had to pick L

On this before we get to the next segment and talk about embs injury and what what door that opens for the Cavs if you had to pick two Replacements let’s just say it’s Randall in embid everyone else goes who would your two picks be to fill those two spots among Eastern Conference

Players I can go first cuz I would go Allan and porzingis I I just I’m going them I’m going to reward teams that are winning basketball games I’m going to go big for big I’m going to go Allan and porzingis if I could pick other conferences which you can’t I’m putting

In sabonis over any of those guys but and in Fox you probably but in the East I would my my order would would go porzingis Allen Trey young Derek white that would be my that would be my four if you’re going to organize him that way well if we’re just talking about like

Big for big or front court for front Court I think Pascal seak could be in the conversation too depending on how you really feel about it but like he’s playing really well for the Raptors and he’s playing even better for the Pacers so maybe there’s a bit of that um but I

Agree with you if it’s just like a big for big or like front court for front Court swap like it’s porzingis one Allen to seak could be a bit of a wild card there if it’s guard stuff it’s Trey young then Derek white if like replacing Halton or Maxi or something like that

But Pi who what would your porzingis and Allen and then I said yeah no no no no but like it’s we know it’s not independent of guard I’m not saying just big for big I’m saying flat out I would pick Allan and porzingis and Trey young is third on my list I just

Want I think Alan and porzingis are yeah no we have a different list if you Trey young porzingis than Jared Allen for me because I think Trey young just like 26 and 10 you can’t really ignore like that’s really good yeah I’m a I’m a

Trey young uh not yeah I hate the way Trey young plays too I also hate the way James Harden plays but I would be like surprised if James Harden wasn’t picked every year either didn’t this year even though the Clippers are really good he’s playing

Don’t I I I don’t know how you evaluate exactly when he’s going to be back or back full strength he has already he had missed three games with left KNE soreness he sits out this game he gets hurt Lord knows when he’s going to come back no idea we don’t know shout out

Fans that uh just were frothing at the mouth about him sitting at the game against yic it turns out it was or the analysts that were questioning his toughness turns out it was a serious injury yeah at the same time Philly has slid back in the

Standings just a wee bit they were third in the East and now they are fifth that is the Cavs and the Knicks are now third and fourth and Knicks right now are third Cavs are fourth the Bucks are second Cavs are a half one and a half

Games behind the second seated bucks a game behind the Knicks and everyone is chasing the C Evan this n beat injury though I I think if you’re looking at it from just a purely Cleveland perspective what this does is there’s now a door open there is

A door open to chase the highest seat possible there is more of a door open than there already was this was already trending toward a place where the battle in the East was going to be 3 four and five with Indiana and the Heat and the magic and these other teams taking

Something of a step back but if embiid’s going to miss a lot of time I I think Maxi is great I think Harris is great naked nurse is doing a great job there there’s probably trades they could still make that team is just not going to be

As good Joel embiid was on path to maybe win the MVP again for crying out loud there is a big window here for the Caps to push for as high as the three seed uh push for as high as the two seed depending on how what how things go with

The Bucks like there is just a real window here now that this embiid injury has left open and that’s it’s unfortunate I’d rather see and beat healthy and be awesome but there there’s no denying there’s just a bigger the door is now more open than it was I think before

This yeah and it really does make things interesting when these two teams play um in Cleveland on Monday uh coming up after they play um the Spurs on the road and then everything else but like that could widen the Gap even more between these two like as of right now

Cleveland’s only a half game ahead of Philly uh in all honesty Cleveland has one less loss than the Sixers do right now and um and with the same amount of wins and so to your point though like they are a half or a full game back of New York for

Three they’re a game and a half back of Milwaukee 42 um I don’t I mean I don’t really see Boston like falling that hard the Cavs catch up to them but it the Cavs are in a unique spot where like you said like this INB injury

Does open a window for the Cavs to really throttle their competition going forward and I think with Billy they’re going to stumble quite a bit because you know not having your MVP and the best player out there is going to be tough and to your point like Tyrese Maxi is

Phenomenal um maybe the Sixers are more Dynamic and static at the deadline because they can’t afford to waste this season even if MB does come back this year um but we’ll see what happens just because Cleveland is like in this pretty interesting spot where they’re playing Super well with everybody not named

Darius scarland and Deon Moy out there but like once those two were acclimated and off this minute restriction like the I don’t want to say run the table but like the Cavs could really string together like a lot of high quality winds and see themselves pretty close to

The top of the mountain toop which again is so weird to think just because on New Year’s Day they came out so flat against the Raptors and they the eighth seed and now in the beginning of February a whole month later like they are within knocking distance of having the second

Best record in the league and we talked about at the beginning of the show like credit credit do like JB vicer staff has coached his tail off during this stretch but I think like the team just not quitting on him and remaining locked in has helped a lot too and it’s

Unfortunate injur it sucks when injuries happen especially some of the League’s best players are like Jo lmb but for the Cavs this is an advantageous situation where like they can keep climbing up the ranks and maybe Leap Frog New York at one point and then start nipping at Milwaukee’s heels

Instead best case here more than anything else I would say is is this whether you finish third or second if you can get there you get to one of those seeds you are on the opposite side of the bracket of the Boston Celtics you are not the team that then

Has to play Boston in round two and I understand if you got let’s let’s say the Cavs are third and the the the Bucks are second and that’s the second round match up I’m not going to sit here and say hey you’re favorites against the bucks now I’m not like they have Dame

They have Giannis there’s a lot of basketball left to play but I’m taking that matchup 10 times out of 10 as opposed to having to play Jason Tatum and Jaylen Brown and porzingis and that Celtic team which is is either the favorite or shout out to my bald King

Dereck white either the the either the favorite to win the title or number two if you want to give credit to the nuggets and and it they’re that good they’re Far and Away the best team in the conference right now if not the best team in the league getting on the

Opposite bracket of Boston is a huge opportunity for for you to make a deep playoff run here and like you can talk yourself into something more substantial than I think is possible if you’re the four seed if you’re the four seed you’re I will look at this and say I think

Anyone with a rational non Super Fan in mind will look at that and say okay you got to win round one get exercise last year’s demons move on and then you’re uphill sledding against Boston you get on the other side there’s just a little more room for hope to make something of

A run here I think if you’re Cleveland yeah there’s next of these teams I say there’s a bit more of a gleam and let’s just say New York finishes four leveland finishes two or three with miluk being that toss up and Boston is one like New

York could beat up on the Celtics quite a bit too and maybe give the Cavs a bit of a better chance I’m not saying like the NBA finals are boss but like an Eastern Conference Finals run is much more obtainable at least right now just because the Cavs split the season series

With the Bucks without Moy and Garland out there for any of those games and sure Giannis was unavailable for one of them but the Cavs really responded well after Giannis and Dame kind of bullied them and I think they do have something where like JB biger staff can throw

Isaac aoro at Damien Lillard and really slow him down and frustrate him and sure Doc Rivers could be a bit different in this matchup too just because Adrien Griffin was the coach of the Bucs in those four games as well but it’s just weird to say like the team

With yon and then a Koo and Damen Lillard is your preferred matchup but it’s completely understandable when staring down the barrel of Chris porzingis Jason Tatum Jaylen Brown Derek white and everything else the Celtics can hit you with that’s going to be it for lockdown cast for Friday February 2nd I am Chris
