They just weren’t meshing well. Chemistry wasn’t there.
ConferenceMaximum187
Could definitely sense that all last year
Glad he got his bag and is in a great situation in Houston rn. Sengun is a stud and hes playing great. Also Brooks is playing way better than I thought he would
notme_u
He went to a much better situation and got paid a shit ton of money. I wish him nothing but the best in Houston.

I think a whole lot of it would have been water under the bridge if they were just winning more. FO should have gotten them a center before the season started. When you’re losing and everyone has their next contract to worry about, ofc this is what happens.
FalseZookeepergame15
They weren’t playing for each other. You could see it especially on defense when no one would call out a screen and a teammate would get pummeled

Selfish
rtcaino
Basically just admitting to playing for his own contract.
Barnicus57
Masai sai this and people thought he was taking shots at \Pascal. Scottie said it was every man for himself. Mr. Bet On Yourself sayiing the same thing isn’t breaking news at this point.
IHavePoopedBefore
I was screaming for him to be traded, and Pascal to be traded after Scottie’s rookie year because I knew Scottie’s was the new timeline. So I agree

Kyle was always the glue that held things together. Fred is nice but there are just some things that you can’t replace.

It always feels like fans (not just raptors but sports in general) who mostly embody the whole “fuck you, pay me/fuck you I got mine” mentality in life are the first ones triggered and screeching at the top of their lungs when a player goes and does just that
Winter_Purpose8695
kinda funny when the whole perception of Pascal-FVV-OG core is that these are ‘no-ego’ guys
motherseffinjones
You could feel it last year around game 10 maybe. I don’t know what was going on but it is what it is. He is still a raptors legend at the end of the day
vc2015
FVV’s only interest was securing his own bag.

No Fred, that’s the culture that originated when YOU were leading this team. Don’t put this on everyone else.
prodigus01
Let’s see if Darko can right the ship. I don’t see selfishness like I did during the FVV era
Future looks promising, I love the fact that our assists numbers are high. We just need to get better defensively.
Nice-Elk-1168
And then there were those fans who called us crazy when the chemistry was ass clearly…

Bet On Yourself is a fine mantra as an up and coming undrafted guy I guess, but once you’re a core vet and a team leader in a contract year…
It was Fred’s time to step up like Lowry had at that stage of his career, but Fred didn’t imho. His play was fine but he wasn’t the locker room guy or mentor they needed him to be. I think that’s 100% on Fred.
SubstantialBody6611
Freddy was definitely part of the problem, not all of it, but he had his role in it.
ok_concept8
Leader should get everyone on the same page. He and Pascal couldn’t do it. They had Kyle, Demar as vets. Amazing guys. Took them under their wing. What bugs me is who is Scotties vet? Thad, Pascal I guess. But I don’t feel they did a good enough job mentoring.

In other words, Fred was playing for his contract and his stats

We all saw this. Fred was not ready to defer to Scottie. Love him, but was time for him to go
ilickedysharks
You could see it so clearly which is why it was crazy they bought at the deadline and tried to force it even harder. Also they will never admit it but the way Toronto media covered Fred vs the rest of the team set him up for hate from alot of fans. Like Doug Smith slandering a second yr Scottie and blaming him for everything while bending over backwards to make it seem like Fred was doing everything he could to carry the team and he was being let down.

That’s what happen when you have so many players were playing on expiring contract and looking for a new paycheck.
