Jayson Tatum: Celtics Need to Look Themselves in Mirror | Postgame Intervuew

Coach admitted that you guys are going through a tough stretch right now but to fall to your Rivals without the two of their Superstars how disappointing is that um yeah like Joe said we’re going through a a rough patch um and uh you know we just got got to

Get through it obviously uh change some things but you know we got to play better Jason you got a couple of things going on here where you guys as players you have to move on right you got Memphis coming up on Sunday you got games stacked up fans kind of live and

Die with these wins and losses um how do you how do you balance that how do you like balance your need to move on where fans hear you say we’ve just got to move on and be like what do you mean like when they live and die with this stuff

Uh I think it’s just you got to Be I mean in reality we just can’t change what just happened uh I’m certain everybody in this room wish they could go back and change some they did and there you know when they was younger but yeah we didn’t play well enough to win and they did um so

You know you have to give them credit but uh you know we got a couple practices and you know look ready look forward to bounce back on uh Sunday Jason I guess it’s one thing not to uh you know not to hit shots or you didn’t

Get to the free throw line much and all that but when you’re not playing with the energy or the effort or it just seems like they’re playing harder than you are even though they’re missing LeBron and AD like how do you digest that when you know like damn they’re

Just they’re out hustling us they’re beating us back on defense they’re getting transition layups after we make baskets like how do you digest like not playing hard yeah uh and a lot of times when guys you know best players are out um it gives the other guys the opportunity to

Play Carefree basketball um and they get you know more of an opportunity to do so um and you know that’s exactly what happened tonight they got really good basketball players over there and uh you know on a given night you know guys can hit shots and uh can make the game tough

So um like I said I got to give them credit they came out uh you know they lost their last couple games and um they came out they were ready to go from the jump and kind of caught us um on our heels in a sense and you know we fought

Back and tried to come back but um it was tough Jason Sam hit a bunch of shots um Payton was running around getting things done you play a lot with those guys or you have been as of late what do they mean for the team and then also can you

Talk about your experience playing with the Ben bench guys what does that do for your game and how do you reciprocate how do you help them yeah uh pton and Sam um obviously you know since the day that they got here U have made tremendous strides to

You know really be an important pieces to our team right we count on them every single night um whether it’s give us energy Off the Bench you know help space the floor uh you know my job out there with the second unit is just to um especially on the offensive end just

Generate create good possessions right um you know drawing two Defenders um and just making sure I find those guys uh you know when their space because you know their spacing helps us out a lot obviously it’s it’s hard to help off of them but you know in the

Second unit they don’t other teams not really going to let me play one on-one so um you know we find that balance of you know making sure they’re in the in the right spots and you know um utilize them as much as we can you you tried to drive and like be

Really physical especially at the end of the game I think Reeves got that strip at the end that kind of ended it for you guys it’s pretty rare that teams are able to stop you from getting in and controlling the paint so what do you think defenses do well when they’re able

To actually get you from getting to the rack uh I mean you know show a crowd try to speed me up um you know ask what you not let me be comfortable and I think with any of the best players in the league uh you know you don’t want to let

Them be comfortable and you know it’s a collective effort to to do so on a given night you guys have been comfortable a lot this year like the offense is click the way you wanted defensive stops you’ve gone through this rut now where it’s like there’s been a

Few losses at home Joe said basically you’re not playing good basketball now now that you have some time off how do you kind of look back at this section of the season and what do you like what do you want to correct and kind of change and kind of re like reone going

Forward yeah uh I mean like you said we got a couple days of practice and and and look over things that we can do better uh today Thursday just just a bad week at work you know everybody here got a job uh you know nobody has great days every day and you

Know us we’re no different this is our job um we would love to be perfect we would love to win every game and make every shot but um it’s just not the case but you know we got to be better and look ourselves in the mirror and that’s what we’re going to do

BOSTON — After the Celtics 114-105 defeat to the Lakers on Thursday night, Jayson Tatum shared his insights, acknowledging the Lakers caught them off guard. “The Lakers caught us on our ‘heels’,” Tatum remarked, after scoring 23 points in a game that also saw the Celtics turn the ball over 15 times. This loss adds to a concerning trend for Boston, which has now dropped three of its last five home games, a stark contrast to their dominant 20-0 start at TD Garden. Reflecting on the recent performances, Tatum emphasized the need for introspection: “We need to look at ourselves in the mirror.” His comments highlight a pivotal moment for the team to reassess and improve moving forward.

  1. That first home loss knocked their confidence and stride out of whack. We’ve now lost 3 home games out of 6 after winning 20 straight at home. They are resting on their laurels and it’s biting them in the ass. We get too comfortable all the time. They’ll never learn

  2. I think this team needs to call a players only meeting. They need a gut check. Miazzulla should not be involved, he is no help.

  3. "Lackadaisical" in the important aspects of the game really bit us here. Happy this happened in the later part of the season rather than the playoffs. ADDRESS IT, FIX IT, MOVE ON!

  4. Does everyone have amnesia or something? This happens to every great team. They let their guard down because they think it will be an easy win. I’ve been watching basketball for 30 years and seen it every year.

  5. This dude is a joke. Has Kobe as his idol, but you would NEVER see Kobe smiling after a loss like that. Kobe would call him soft.

  6. This dude always play with no hear his real problem is he pick and choose to play and when to play tough and that’s not greatness

  7. Green for LIFE! But I am done making excuses. What I saw out there tonight was garbage. We have no heart and no mentality for toughness. When the Warriors a few years back went on a crazy run and they had the best record in the NBA, did they ever play down to the other team? Did Michael, Kobe, Shaq ever? No! They had a killer instinct. These kids do not. The J'S are nkt built like that. For Brown to have gotten 300mil and only have 8 points in a game is just insane. Mazzula, take a good look in the mirror buddy. Because this team, WILL lose in the playoffs against a tough team like the Pacers, Knicks, Bucks. And lets not forget….dont wake up Miami. This havin the best record in the NBA does not mean shit in the playoffs. TIME FOR A REALITY CHECK MR. BRAD STEVENS!!!!

  8. Grow the fukc up Tatum. Or quit the sport. He just doesn’t have what it takes to be a champion at this level no matter how much skill and God given physical traits he has. It drives me crazy. He’s so calm. He needs to learn to FREAK OUT. I would love to see him throw a tantrum here

  9. This reminds me why I became a John wall fan after my childhood rooting for Boston in NE. That dude wasn’t perect, couldn’t shoot as well as most pro guards, but dang it was so awesome the way he would be a pass first Pg until it was clear his team wasn’t giving full effort, or needed a boost, and he would turn on this animalistic, literally almost a gang banger mentality, and lead them back into the game or win the game. He had SO MUCH HEART. And you know what? So does Marcus Smart and so did Ime and so did Grant Willaims, hate em or love ‘em. I miss players like that man. Tarum is just so repressed, and JB is just such an over thinker that when things aren’t going well it looks like he just gives up, his body starts sagging, but it’s because he is freaking out on the inside and repressing it in a fight or flight sense. I love Tatum and brown in a lot of ways, I love Derrick white in a lot of ways, Al etc, by I think all them get along so well because they are all of the self aware sensriice reflective types. I want a gang John wall, I want a stepg curry, I want a ant Edwards type. Even Reeves seems to have a bit more killer in him than they do. Derrick I have to give credit to becasue he’s come up super clutch for us this year, even tho he still is on the sensitive side. Maybe that’s why Ime worked so well. His alpha energy balanced out their sensitive energy. And I’m not calling any of them “betas”. I honestly think it’s great to be able to be a competitor and also he sensitive. But sadly it just doesn’t bode well when Apmosr all of your top players are deep thinking sensitive types. I want Jalen Brunson type man. Even Haliburton. He comes off as such a nice happy go lucky guy, but he’s a freaking SOB to be honest. He talks mad shit and he thinks he’s the shit and he wants to dominate you in his own way. Idk how Tatum and brown don’t have that. Idk:/ they’re so good tgo

  10. No banner this year been exposed
Gotta play like every game is a final.
Yall need more off ball sets
read and react play with more heart
and has Tommy used to say
    Run Walter Run

  11. Of course they are not falling for it after last night’s performance Tatum and Brown get the killer instinct in you before it’s too late

  12. Relax, for Gods sakes it one Fregin game. Just because they make a huge paycheck they are still human. Look at yourself right now. Somewhere you screwed up in the past year. Stop being a primadonna. They are not Robots. Now if this keeps up then we have an issue.
For many games they were blowing people out. It is always good to have adversity before the playoffs. They need to go though this just like you did when you screwed up. It makes you a better person and Drives You! Let’s see how the next games go. I bet they come up with vengeance. We needed this for Growth. This humble pie will make a difference. It’s a learning experience.

  13. Im just moving on from these games. The season is long. I dont live and die after a loss. They're getting lazy and have no killer instincts. DW is even getting lazy and taking baf shots. JH is just a turn over dumpster. If you play hard and play the right way and lose so be it. Its the NBA. As soon as i heard AD n Lebron were out i told my cousin whos a Lakers fan. Watch the Celtics will shyt the bed.

  14. Jayson need to realises. He have alot of guys that shoot. Holding the ball for more than 10 second and pass or brick a shot wont get them to the final. These dude want to stat padding so much trying to show they can score 30 or more every night is not the way to beat every team. This dude cry so much for foul to. I can go on all day but him and jaylen need to be able to understand trying to get 30 or more is not the best way. I hate when jaylen start getting going and ask for the ball and brick a 3s.
