Do you have a breaking point?
“Yes, I do.”
What’s the next step in making them do what you want them to do at the end of games?
“Yeah. Listen, I mean many times I’ve reached a breaking point with guys in situations, particularly in the film room. I think what was needed today was absolute clarity and redefining some roles and getting some people back in their boxes and get ’em to worry about the right things and the things that they do best, rather than the things that everyone should be doing for them, and also how they can help their teammates. So there was a lot of clarity today in the film session, kinda cleaning up the small pieces around their role.”
Mike Conley said you have added more structure to the late-game offense but that there are still reads within that structure?
“Absolutely. I think two things happen at that point. One is, first of all, we have a few sets that we feel are really good and have been good to us to close games with. They involve getting our best players the ball in space, in action. When that happens, they have to make the right play. That is paramount to any basketball play. Ok. If they dust off the play and just go iso, then we don’t know what’s coming next often times, so the rhythm of the offense just falls down, maybe we turn it over, maybe we get caught in poor transition, certainly we maybe don’t get a good shot. That’s one. At that point in time, my breaking point is I don’t give them the ball at the end of games. I think the ball has to be back in Mike’s hands a lot more at the end of games. And that’s something you’ll see differently coming up here.”

Good. This is all part of the “maturity” he’s been talking about as well. Let’s go fix it.
For those of you that didn’t watch the game last night and hear Jim Pete multiple times, the TLDR of this quote is as follows:
Ant needs to be better, or we’re putting the ball in Mikes hands until Ant proves he’s going to make the right decisions with the ball in crunch time.
No more Ant Cte ball is good😁 but more mike tho😬😬
So Conley will have the ball instead of ant ? Beautiful.
I hope that Ant doesn’t lose his killer mentality. Dude doesn’t seem selfish he just seems immature and you can’t expedite it as much as they want, it’s gotta come naturally otherwise it can soon become a feeling of micromanagement I’m sure
Why can’t we just run Mike Conley PnR?
This is a reminder that we don’t know everything that goes on behind the scenes with this team. A lot of fans are quick to say Finch doesn’t get on our guys hard enough, but It’s very apparent he just handles his frustrations with the team in private rather than in public—as he should.
I am less than shocked that the tough questions came from Britt. Dude is prickly to say the least lol
Please Finch, actually crack the whip, this team desperately needs it.
Im sure Finch is going to be in such a great mood tonight at Jonny Athletic’s event at Headflyer
I would love to see the ball in Conley’s hands at the end of games. That said, the rest of the guys need to be court aware and be ready in a split second to either shoot if they’re open, drive to the basket if there’s a wide open path, or immediately pass. We have some killers on this team but they can’t take turns trying to be the killer all by themselves.
