Is Joel Embiid avoiding Nikola Jokic? | Hoops Tonight

What’s up everybody thanks as always for supporting the show it would mean a lot to me if you would take a second to scroll down and hit that subscribe button to the Hoops Tonight YouTube channel and then follow me on social media on Tik Tok Instagram and Twitter

So you guys don’t miss any of our content over the course of this season all right let’s talk some basketball number nine the Philadelphia 76ers I was really high on the Sixers after their six game winning streak they beat Sacramento they beat Houston they beat Denver in that impressive game

Where Joel and be kind of shut down the the Nuggets offense down the stretch and they beat or up but then they went into Indiana and laid an egg and then they late scratched everyone against Denver and look I understand that embiid’s embiid fans kind of feel like there’s a

Narrative here and that the narrative isn’t necessarily fair but like guys embiid’s not doing himself any favors on this front like last year Joel embiid played in 13 straight games before sitting out in Denver and then immediately played in the next five games so he played in Eight 18 out of 19

Games and the one he sat out was the game in Denver this year he plays in six straight games Go including hunting points in a 70-point night against the San Antonio Spurs and then goes oh well I’m resting my knee I’m going to sit out against Denver like he told joic he’d

See him there he said so in his postgame presser after they won in Philly he wasn’t on the injury report before the game sham Shania reported 15 minutes before the game he was not on the injury report the Sixers on social media were advertising the matchup as joic vers

Embiid and then he sat out they’re almost certainly going to get fined for it and again like when when you’re talking about the narrative if you’re going to gun for 70 points against the Spurs and then sit out against Denver saying we want to make sure his knee is

Ready for the playoffs you’re going to get the side eye from a lot of people you just are it’s completely Fair criticism and also I mean this team kind of needed a signature win they’re 29 and 15 but they played a comically easy schedule just 10 of those 29 wins were

Against teams that are 500 or better as of right now they’ve played the third easiest schedule in the league uh per opponent win percentage those 10 wins against 500 or better teams ranks 16th in the NBA they are also just one in four on the road against teams in my

Contender list with their one win being against the young and Tiny Oklahoma City Thunder so like they needed this kind of like big road win to kind of just almost as like a test like it would have been a great test for them and they punted it

And it just left a bad taste in my mouth so I have the Sixers down at number nine right Now

Jason Timpf reacts to the Philadelphia 76ers vs. Denver Nuggets game in which Philly sat out Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, and Tobias Harris. Embiid has not played in Denver since the 2019 season, and questions are being asked whether he is avoiding Nikola Jokic or not.

  1. They should implement some kind of penalty for missing these big games. Like a top 10 in the MVP race should not miss games against fellow top 10. And if there are really injuries they should submit some kind of report from the doctors like a couple of days prior.

  2. I don't understand how you can build up experience and mental toughness needed for the clutch playoff games, if you are constantly ducking tougher regular season games. Like, you won't just "figure it out" when game 7 of the second round gets down the wire, you need to build up those muscles previously. You need to fail and learn from that failure. Its no wonder to me Embiid always collapses when it matters the most, its the whole Philly culture since the Process, and you could see the same in Simmons, its literally the same sh*t. They are afraid to fail and thus they don't learn anything.

  3. Embiid is a fraud šŸ˜‚. I am so tired of this. Giannis lost but he still played against denver. Thats why i flow giannis and not this clown

  4. Embiid putting great numbers against teams like Spurs or Detroit that are tanking and then he disappears Vs Denver and other good teams on the road it's also crazy that Embiid in past 2 seasons have more free throws attempts then prime Shaq……….

  5. He's not gonna turn into an actual competitor anyway. We'll see him choking in the playoffs and ask for a trade to an another superteam.

  6. Embiid goes for stats pad against Spurs for 70 points and then went MIA the next 3 games causing the Sixers to lose the next 3 games. Is it worth it?

  7. Basically, you're right, but Embiid hasn't played in Denver since 2019. Last time, suspicious, last minute release. That's a bit fishy, isn't it?

  8. This show went to shit šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚ all that biased commentary and delusional talk turned a ton of people off. Ratings fell straight down lol I love it

  9. Yep, he's terrified of playing in tough road games so he sits them out. Gotta keep that average high.

  10. As a nuggets fan, I saw what happened with his knee, not surprised he sat out. Itā€™s why I didnā€™t buy tickets to the game, but I do feel bad for the people that spent 200-300 on the game for nosebleeds because they really wanted to see the matchup only for it to get scratched last second (yeah, thatā€™s really what tickets were going for). Unfortunately, even if it was justified this time, heā€™s gonna get crap like it isnā€™t because heā€™s been bailing on this matchup so much.

  11. Thanks for saying what needed to be said. Most people would answer Embiid for MVp if season ended today. Until itā€™s kindly pointed out that Embiid has missed 12 out 45 games thatā€™s 27 percent of his games he missed. So 1 out 4 games the supposed MVp DNP please. Jokic has missed 1 game, Shai 2 I think in same time frame.

  12. This season VALUE – total points/rebounds/assists:

    Jokic 1235 (4th in the League) / 569(3rd) / 423(3rd)

    Embiid 1201 (7th in the League) / 384(18th) / 193(55th)

It's not even close for those able and willing to count.

  13. Iā€™m not a fan of his behavior and character, but he is a talented player and I would love to see him get his shyt together ā€” stop doing the things that likely contribute to his injuries and develop a winning character ā€” and finally start reaching his true potential beyond meaningless regular season stats and popularity contest trophies.

I hope that him finally getting exposed with all of this actually helps him and if he takes the leap and finishes strong, Iā€™d be applauding him like crazy from Denver.

But the clock is ticking on his ā€œinjury-proneā€ career soooo ā€¦ chop chop, Embiid!

  14. @jason, I was just wondering about that 65 game limit. Why donā€™t we just multiply stats by % of games played and compare that way? It could be updated retrospectively for old generations. This way for example, we would multiply Embiidā€™ 30ppg in 60 games to 22 in 82 and for example SGAā€™s 28ppg in 75 games to 26,5. That is how we could include ā€œbest ability is availabilityā€ aspect!

  15. This is why Embiid plays on a bad knee and gets hurt vs GSW. You got guys dedicated to hating on him for any and every thing he does all over social media

  16. Iā€™m just here for the Bron slander now thatā€™s heā€™s weighed in on this ridiculous conversation. If there was no reporting that lead this then in what way was this ever a responsible position to take dragging the sycophants along for the ride?? You are better than this.

  17. Even if Embiid is healthy he would not play against the Nuggets in Denver.Last time he played in Denver was in 2019,that's already a pattern, not a coincidence.People pay a good money to see him play, and he's a no show for almost 5 seasons in Denver…
