Where you may be you may see future teams you know they play the Memphis Grizzlies next game I don’t know the Memphis Grizzlies are doing that I don’t know that they’re trying to win but after the Grizzlies you have the Dallas Mavericks and you have the Indiana Pacers both at Madison Square Garden

Wouldn’t be surprised if those two teams unveil the same thing the Lakers did wait to the second half wait till the fourth quarter and then you double and triple team Jaylen Brunson so as long as OG and noi and Quinton Grimes if they’re still out by then for the New York

Knicks so I think what you saw tonight is basically the Lakers and maybe it’s LeBron James darving ham is facing a lot of criticism in La so maybe LeBron James recommended that defensive strategy him being a servant in terms of we’re not going to lose to Jaylen Brunson they

Have precious ofu out there make him shoot a three they have Josh Hart out there make Josh Hart make the decision make him either make two decisions go straight to the basket and score or shoot the basketball and unfortunately in those two areas tonight Josh Hart mightily struggled going five for 16

From the field and it’s tough because he plays so hard tonight you saw a lot of hustle plays and is it really his fault when he’s asked to be a playmaker and then he looks to his right he has presses AA and he looks to his left and Dante Deano’s

Covered and there’s not many other options from a shooting standpoint so it’s one of those weird nights where you get information if you’re the front office but I don’t want to totally overreact because if OG and Grimes are out there and randle’s out there there’s no way that the Lakers employ that type

Of defensive strategy where there he’s literally double and triple teaming Brunson from the moment that Jaylen brunon crosses half court so uh but it does it does unveil the continued thought of fans when fans say that they want a trade for an additional ball handler um I don’t know if they really

Need an additional shooter more so that you would want an additional ball handler just to release some pressure off Jaylen Brenton who played 45 minutes tonight so tough loss um there’s a lot of ways we can go with tonight in terms of strategy and basketball talk and and

I’m excited to hear what the fans think about tonight’s game I’m I’m I’m looking forward to hearing what everyone has to call in and think their uh their takes on this game are but you know JD you talked about the blueprint to guard jayen Brunson I’m glad you added the caveat Without OG without Quinton Grimes and we gotta say without without Julius Randle too because with Julius you know the second best scorer on this team it changes how you have to face the New York Knicks every single night I’m not too worried when it comes to you know

This to the game plan right now slowing down the New York slowing down the New York knck because there’s not many teams who have the capability of throwing a LeBron James or an Anthony Davis out there to guard the paint as they do which is where Brunson usually gets his

Said I’m a little worried because you don’t have OG to guard defensively but what I also sort of recognize and mention to you there is that without somebody like OG without somebody like Quinton Grimes who can help space the floor you see what happens when Dante is the only reliable three-point shooter

Out there or McBride is not having it tonight everybody else it’s it’s feast or famine I mean Josh Hart was left open so many times tonight because as you already noted you’re guther go to let him drive attempt him to drive which he loves to do he doesn’t like to shoot the

Three I mean his shot wasn’t necess falling from downtown anyway but if he’s going to continuously be reluctant even when they’re living in wide open to make them honor him it’s going to just shrink the court moving forward so with the game plan of just like moving forward

With just saying hey we got the game plan for how to stop jayen Brunson I still look at him as a superstar that gets to most of his spots which he which he did I mean the thing is like you’re trying to shoot over LeBron James you’re

Trying to split double teams but then even when he’s kicking it out to the right player those guys have to make shots so like you know what I mean let let me ask you something do you think and and this is a question in terms of really really putting pressure on

Brunson and asking him to do more and more and more um is there anything that you saw out there that you thought Brunson could have done even in the even in the midst of him being double team and getting ball pressure or do you think it’s just a situation where

There’s nothing else he could have done um and he had to just you know rely on on his teammates I thought he was making the right reads man I mean without Randall he’s going to have to take 30 shots a game which he’s been doing but

Even to the guys he was passing to and trying to create for them you know you had Isaiah hardenstein who just missed an easy layup when cut into the basket you had precious Miss easy bunny you had Josh har Miss easy bunni I mean these guys have to knock down shots when

They’re getting that close to the rim if they’re not going to do that I can’t place all of it on Brunson just because he’s already asked to do a lot to help keep this team afloat and he did 36 points you’re talking about a loss of

113 to 105 and that’s not even that bad like I hate saying oh like you know moral victories in this case but for a team that’s without like I said Randall OG Mitch and Quinton Grimes ain’t too bad to go against a team that has two superstars and Anthony Davis and LeBron

James that theoretically should be doing better than what they’re doing right now I’m not I’m not I’m not going that direction uh with Brunson that he there’s more that he could have done I just like when you have Harin going two for n you have auua going four for 11

Josh Hart going five- 16 you know Dante 10 for 22 not great but also not horrible either and then you look at the bench I mean you had fln for three minutes so he didn’t really have to contribute much tonight Jericho Sims only gave you one shot and McBride went three eight you

Need other guys to shoot well on this team outside of Brunson and you know his three-point shot wasn’t going to fall but you have to other guys have to be attacking the paint effectively in order to open up for him too so I don’t know

Man for for me I I I’m I don’t know what else what else what else did you want to see Brunson do tonight I’m going to go throw it right back to you um I I I agree I agree um overall I do agree if

You want to look at like next next level X’s and O’s tomorrow you know um uh him and tibs watching film if there’s one little area that that and I’m sure he he would say he’ll pick up at is when they were sending the double teams he could

Have made that initial pass a little earlier or beat the double team before the double team gets to you and I think there were a few possessions where he tried to run away from the double team when at that point once you’re getting double team you can’t run away from it

On a court like there’s only so much you can do from a double triple team and with these athletic players and I think that killed a few seconds in the shot clock and then added some discombobulation on a few possessions it’s only a X’s and O’s thing not a

Criticism or anything it’s more of a film thing where where once they look at the film because you got to think this is something he’s going to have to look at because if OG and Grimes are out like I said I don’t see that strategy against the

Grizzlies I’ll be very surprised if the Grizzlies try to employ a strategy like that because I don’t think they’re trying to win games like that but Jason kid against the Mavericks could employ a similar strategy and if I’m Brunson and I get the double team obviously it’s

Different Personnel so you want to see what type of double team you get you want to see how early in the shot clock you get it and you want to see where on the floor you get it but if I’m Brunson you know Josh Hart’s I don’t

Know that Josh har is going to turn into a 50% shoot in a couple days right so your personnel is not going to change so when you are a superstar now what Bruns is going to do is Bruns is going to think he’s going to look at the film and

He’s going to look at is there any Nuance is there any small detail is there anything that I can do to make it easier for my teammates and I think he’s going to pick up on that and if they do it don’t be surprised if you see Brunson

Make the pass a little bit quicker a little bit earlier in the shot clock because then that’s going to allow the rest of his teammates to potentially get a better shot you do it a little late you saw that one time where he had the turn over on the corner um once they

Tried you know they just looked a little discombobulated and also it’s because kind of like the zone right in the past where once you don’t have experience like you could be a professional player but sometimes even the most basic strategies when you receive it as an opponent sometimes you don’t know how to

React to it just because you haven’t seen it right like like NBA team NBA teams they don’t practice a lot against the Zone when you see the zone for the first time your reaction could be a little bit different you don’t have experience against it like that so good

Good good experience for them um that’s the only Nuance thing for the next uh game other than that there’s not much he can do man the guy the guy had 10 assists he could have had could had 30 assists if his teammates made shots 30

You know 30 six points still find a way to almost shoot 50% from the field obviously he shot one of six from the three he has struggled from three since randle’s been out and I think it’s because the shot difficulty for Brunson has been a lot more difficult without

Randle that’s a credit to Julius Randle having the ability to create easier shots for for the New York Knicks no no doubt indeed bro those are all facts those are all facts but JD I got to talk about something else that you brought up man earlier you talked about this team

Needing a secondary playmaker on this team like do you do you because I’ve been I’ve been you know I’ve been saying that I’m cool with I’m cool with whatever the direction the front office wants to go we see that from Ian Begley and the reports that have been coming

Out where we’re here we’re seeing where the report saying they’re okay staying Pat by the trade deadline and rolling what they got so you’re talking about McBride Quinton Grimes precious and uh Sims when they coming off the bench or even hartenstein when you get Mitchell Robinson back

Or you go out there you go think about getting someone like a Malcolm Brogden you think about getting a Jordan Clarkson I know you just talked about getting another playmaker is that still what you need or is this like a one night occurrence because look the Knicks

Just went on a nine game winning streak I know most of it’s come from the stars but even without Randall and OG these last couple of games we’ve seen some improvement from the bench unit are you you still want to go in that direction go get somebody like a Brogden or

Someone else in here uh um are you asking for a specific player or you saying overall that’s overall overall okay so I think for example with Duce McBride I think there’s been missed in some somewhat inaccurate evaluations right the there’s some people that are correctly saying that

McBride um needs it’s good in his role now and he’s an off ball guard and there’s some other people that are I think incorrectly putting a lot of responsibility on him for some of the miscues Off the Bench um in terms of him being the main ball handler because if

You really Pi if you really notice when this first experiment started McBride at first did start to be the ball handler Tibido gave McBride an opportunity to be that point guard Off the Bench a couple games it didn’t work out well and the reason it didn’t work

Out well is because McBride takes a little too long to start the engine to start the offense a lot of it is because his inability still to break down a defense or quickly create separation so it’s like he was making the first pass and by the time he made the first pass

It’s like 10 nine seconds in the shot Cline right after a few games notice time tibal did make the adjustment and since then he’s been in off ball guard whether it’s when OG being more aggressive in the second unit you saw with Julius Julius was uh more

Aggressive in the second unit so McBride I think right now he is in the correct row he’s the off ball guard who is the main ball handler and shot creator that you can add either next to Brunson in late game situations or to give Brunson some time

Off he play 45 minutes tonight right so it’s like who is the ball handler and even with guess what even with Julius back and OG I don’t even know that I want Julius to to have that responsibility in through the second unit that’s his responsibility right now

But that doesn’t mean that in the playoffs you saw that type of pressure the Lakers were putting on Brunson if they put that on Julius we’ve seen sometimes Julius has trouble in terms of surveying the court so I think all in all what this tells you is you don’t

Necessarily need another shooter per se you need another playmaker you need another ball handler another shot Creator and I think that right there is you know when you look at the Malcolm brogens I’m not I’m not as I don’t know how the fans think about Jordan Clarkson

I’m not a big fan of Jordan Clarkson myself he’s a little too inefficient for me he’s a little too wild um he’s like a a lower version to me of like a J.R Smith J.R Smith was fun but J.R Smith himself wasn’t necessarily a shot Creator um so I’m

Not a big fan of Jordan Clarkson but if they get him it is what it is uh Deon Murray I think is the next level up I think the Deon Mur conversation is more about does Leon Rose want to give up what they’re asking for at this moment

Let’s see if the price drops but and then you got Alec Burks right uh I don’t know that I put Bruce Brown in that conversation I I’m looking at Burks Burks Brogden Clarkson in that tier and then the next tier up is De jeante Murray um and then I don’t know who else
