Who Is Brandon Miller? What Makes Him So SPECIAL

So this NBA rookie class has some standout players for sure but one that’s been slept on is Brandon Miller sure some rookies don’t come out the gate with all a stardom of others or get selected to a team that’s highly rated but that doesn’t mean they don’t deserve

Any recognition with this 6 seven 68 69 height whatever you want to call it he possesses this smooth handle that gives him the capability to break free your Defenders just snatching their ankles and can get right to the spot to pull up although his finishing inside isn’t the

Best he can still put the ball on the deck to get to the rim and when met with contact he can use his athleticism and punch it all over the defender there’s a lot of ways that Miller can affect the game with his offense and that right

There is the best thing about him he can be used on the offensive side in many ways with his versatility and as he progresses he will only get better and expand his game even more it’s not often you see a rookie that knows when and where to pick his spots in the offense

To score or insert himself to receive the ball but Miller has been showcasing this ability and this is highly valuable for any team when the defense forgets about him deep in the corner he’ll move towards the basket calling for a oop and before the defense knows it they’re

Getting slammed on you have to be able to move at the perfect time within the offense to make these plays work as right here if Miller cuts to the basket Murphy may be able to jam him up but when he waits until Murphy moves all the

Way in to then cut behind him this is when the alyu connection becomes available being able to read the defense like this is key because instead of trying to run off this pin down when Alec Burks is alreadying play that option he can cut back dooran into this

Open space down low and unfaced by the slap he stays focused to complete this and won honestly it’s the small movements that make the most impact as when Miller ends up in the slot area it makes him a much easier Target to hit and it’s a Money Ball this movement

Without the ball can jump start his game and get him easy buckets especially when it comes to him knocking down shots from the outside with his 38% shooting from Deep on five attempts per game Miller is a threat from the perimeter whether it’s him being a spot up option A shooter on

The move or if needed he has the capability to pull up off the dribble with confidence with this decent handle that we touch on later he’s able to push the ball up himself and instead of just floating out to the three-point line in a lazy manner after passing it Miller

Gets out behind the line in a quickness and with no Defender right in his grill it’s a great look for the three-point connection if you ask me it’s best that Defenders try to stay attached to him and not let him see any daylight to get

His shot off because if he can set you up off a screen to then get that little advantage on you then by the time he’s in the shot motion the contest doesn’t even phase him as we all know in the NBA all it takes is the slightest amount of

Room for someone to get their shot off so when you’re dealing with someone who can knock down shots you can’t afford to get caught under a screen giving up the look or else is three more points on the board his three-point shooting is such a valuable weapon for this team already in

His rookie year that his teammates will even seek out of opportunity to get him a good look at the r and by the being it’s money team when you look around the league there’s not a lot of rookies who feel comfortable just letting it fly from deep and actually connecting but

When you’re talking about Brandon Miller well he has those tools when we look at his tracking when it comes to how he gets into his three-point shooting majority of his shots come directly off the catch with five a game at a 38% conversion rate and then the rest come

Off the pull-ups with nearly one per game for a 35% rate now yes using him as a off ball mover catch and shoot type of guy is going to give you the best results I mean really why would you want to go away from these looks where you

Can run them off screens for to then just rise up over two Defenders to knock it down it’s pretty reliable and an easy shot for him but with his decent handle and length as time goes on I could actually see him being a good creator for himself when bigs decide to drop on

Him off these screens rather than get up he can deliver this step back to get behind the line and although goar is able to get out there Miller’s lift on his jumper and height allow him to shoot right over the top you would think that with him shooting well from the outside

Guys will play up higher on these screen actions but they tend to stay back like Chad does here here and Brandon canel the jumper over too now am I saying that they need to play him like he Steph Curry or anything nah I didn’t even say

All that because that would be crazy but with his confidence from the perimeter you don’t want to let him get in his Groove say you fail to stay right with him on the fast break then from 30 ft he can immediately launch it from deep and just when you don’t think he’ll actually

Pull up from that far out Miller can say hold on I got something for you and send up another 30-footer just showing the defense what’s in his Arsenal as he gets more Adept at find to get spots on the floor his shooting from deep is going to

Be something the defense will have to be on high alert about because he shows no shyness or hesitation when getting into his shot this strokey ass from Deep flows right into his mid-range creation as this is where I personally notice the shot creation the most and how much

Potential he has as a scorer when Defender start to catch wind of his three-point shooting they’ll start to close out hard so then Miller can attack this aggressively and by feeding the step back he creates that much more separation from Triple J and can knock get down this right here is just the

First option he can go to when getting into his spots in the in between area but trust and believe it gets even better when needed if the defender is close on his side crowding him where Miller can use his body to get into them and then bounce off and now was a nice

Gap in between him and the defender for buttery pullup against the leny Raptor team Barnes is on his left side so right before the screen Miller bounces off towards that Baseline and regardless of the smothering contest from anobi is Straight Cash so yeah he can start off attacking the Closeouts then use those

Side steps or the step backs to gain separation but it’s still not over yet when Miller is pushing up the floor and notices the double will be waiting for him if he goes left he spins back towards the right and Nails this tough fade over marketing you’ll see these

Times where the defense will try to funnel him into these tough situations but with him seeing it ahead of time it allows him to navigate away from those doubles and with his length Jaylen Brunson is just too small with his 44% shooting from the mid-range you honestly

Have to play him him just as you would from the three I can’t stress this enough it’s not that he’s an elite shooter or a great shooter yet but he is a good enough shooter to knock down shots when give him the opportunity and if he gets in his Zone just rolling well

His shot Creation in the tough shots can be money I’m not lying go watch the film so you can see some more for yourself he’s showing flash to being a valuable shot Creator who can be extremely crafty you’ll see God start to Hound him as he navigates to his spot and when they

Lunge out to him after this spin-off Miller can get into their body while shooting the jumper this draws the foul and he connects on the n one it’s pretty similar to this drive on Grimes here but instead of it being a spin back that bits the defense Grimes bites on the up

Fake and the rest is history this in between area will be something that unlocks his game in totality because not only does it make you more unpredictable but it also opens up the ability to get into these tough floaters as well whether he’s weaving through the traffic gracefully tossing

It in over smaller Defenders or confidently finishing over towering bigs Miller has that floater and S push shot in his bag that he can pull out at any time another skill that’s going to be bright for his game that people said would be an issue with him is his inside

Scoring now he doesn’t drive the ball a whole bunch and he isn’t the best finisher ever but I have seen some improvement throughout the season from him as he’s learned to play through the contact and with the Right Touch around the room but hey this is still an area

Where I think we should continue to analyze and keep a eye on because with all his skills already paired with his length if he can become a slashing threat then it’ll be a long day for Defenders as Brandon Miller has a great starting package to build from if you
