Is jerami really overpaid if every team in the league is looking for a player exactly like him?

I don’t think we should trade jerami, but the idea that he has no value is confusing to me. Five firsts are being offered for mikal bridges but jerami is overpaid and his contract is one of the “worst in the league”? Meanwhile he’s making about the same money as Aaron Gordon and Michael porter jr, two guys I would say that he is on par with skill wise and positionally.

Jeramis great. We missed him during the nuggets game, we wouldn’t have been scoreless for so long in the fourth with jerami out there

There was an Athletic article a month ago breaking down Grant’s contact and this question. In short, they thought that Grant’s contract was pretty reasonable when you consider contracts as a % of total cap space and not just in dollars.

I think a big part of the negative takes around his contract is that we know his ceiling as a player and he hasn’t been on a winning team in years.

6’ 8” with solid 3 point range, good defense, and can make his own shot in isolation. There‘s not many out there

I don’t think his contract is that bad.

Jaylen Brown is making $60M per year

    Enough said

After players like Siakam, OG, Mobley etc all sign their extension in the next couple years…. Grant’s won’t look outta wack at all.

Ayton on the other hand… might need to up his game for his next “max deal”.

The cap and salaries are going up every year. It may look like an expensive contract at this moment, but it will be a good one in a year or 2.

Grant averages $33M per year over the next four years.

Bridges is a better player and averages $24M the next two years.

Gordon averages $22M over the next three years.

MPJ is 25 and has a career 61.8% TS% (Grant is 56.7%). His contract is similar to Grant’s at $37M per years for the next three years.

I think most fans were against the length of his contract, including me, since Dame requested the trade a day after he resigned. But I agree, I don’t really think we overpaid him.

No, Grant isn’t overpaid. Versatile defender and consistent 20pt scorer.

As has been said, I think it’s the length of the contract that scares people. The annual terms aren’t that bad for either side. It’s just the uncertainty of where he’ll be as a player in 3 years – when he’s 32. If he doesn’t regress much, it will be viewed as a good contract and I’m betting his contract will be easy to trade (if someone even wanted to do so.)

29 (well, for another month) is considered most NBA players’ prime. So a long contract is considered risky simply because most players don’t have much of an upside at that point in their careers.

Personally, I’m on the “it’s a fair contract” side of the debate, but all anyone can do is guess what his game will be like in 3 years.

  12. Definitely overpaid if you compare him to Gordon as you said. He’s not first or second option on playoff teams

His contract is fine – we have him through is prime, and, by the time he is in the last year of his deal, we’ll probably be looking to leverage our massive draft capital in 2029 for a star to pair with our whatever our core. His contract will be a big part of us getting the salary to match. Until then, Jerami is critical to us being competitive. I don’t see him regressing until maybe the last year of his deal.

People comparing his contract to Mikal Bridges are comparing it to the best contract in the league, everyone is ‘overpaid’ compared to him. Aaron Gordon is also on a great contract, and while a very good player, I don’t think is better than Grant. They aren’t very comparable, but if Grant played in Denver he’d also be super-efficient.
