> Malcolm Brogdon has been openly lobbying the Trail Blazers to keep him beyond Thursday’s trade deadline.
> Long considered one of this season’s Most Likely To Be Traded players after landing in Portland before the season started when Boston acquired Jrue Holiday from the Blazers, Brogdon recently told The Athletic’s Jason Quick that he was rooting against a deal.
> “I’m happy here,” Brogdon told Quick. “I’m valued here. … And I can’t complain with that. I’m happy in Portland.’’
> There have been some recent rumblings that Brogdon, with one season left on his current contract after this one at $22.5 million, has been hopeful that the Blazers would entertain contract extension talks. Portland’s willingness to go that far is rather hard to picture given the understandable focus on its array of young guards — most notably Anfernee Simons and rookie Scoot Henderson — but the prospect of a longer stay than anticipated in the Pacific Northwest for the 31-year-old has gained credence.

Fuck
I’ll be so fucking bummed if he’s still here come Thursday afternoon.
The only way it makes any sense is if Ant gets traded. This would be malpractice as an organization.
lol the only person who overvalues their own players more than fans is the team’s GM.
Don’t get me wrong, I love Malcolm, both as a player and as a person, but we gotta ship him. The only way it would make sense to keep him is if he’s willing to sign a team friendly under market contract that would make him more valuable to trade next year. That doesn’t make a lot of sense for him given he could probably do the same thing for whichever team trades for him.
Does Cronin know that Brogdon is historically a fully invested company man for exactly one year at every destination and then immediately after that hates everything about the organization?
Oh no
Are people actually okay with this? To me it makes zero sense. I really like Malcolm but come on…. Scoot has had some nights where he only got 22 minutes and that was without Shaedon in the rotation.
I understand why we would trade him, but a veteran presence and solid mentor would be a valuable resource to our developing guards. And I never discount a player that actually wants to be here.
As usual, I’m glad I’m not the GM that has to make these decisions. 😂
Really happy that he likes the team and wants to stay, but damn it would be nice to get a good return for him while we can
Not following through with a full rebuild is how you get stuck in play-ins/first round purgatory for the next decade.
Joe had a front row seat to watch his predecessor screw that up.
What a spectacular blunder it would be to not trade him…
Uhhhh I love brogdon man but I hope the fuck not. ESPECIALLY not a contract extension.
Not trading Brogdan would be a massive mistake. Please, for the love of god, let this be a smokescreen.
The guy wants to earn his money. If he’s traded to a contender, they’ll likely let his contract expire and then offer him maybe 2 years for 5-10 million, since they don’t want to exceed the second apron. A rebuilding team like ours can offer him much more. Nothing but love for Malcolm, but keeping him here is just madness.
I’ll cut against the grain of this thread a little bit… yes, I know given the roster construction and how important it is to the Blazers’ rebuild to get Scoot, Ant, and Sharpe as many minutes together as possible, everything everyone has already said. None of that is wrong at all.
But… I’ll be honest, it’s kind of refreshing and encouraging to hear someone who has no prior connection to Portland arrive here right in the thick of both this franchise and this city hitting their 20-year lows in terms of reputation and relevance, and he’s saying he wants to stay here. I am charmed by that. I love it when people who aren’t from here love it here and want to stay here. I don’t want any of that to be taken for granted.
And again, yes I know logically he’s got to be traded and he probably will be. I just wanted to say my piece that Portland needs guys like Malcolm Brogdon. It’s just a shame he’s not 7 years younger and 5 inches taller.
Hire him for a coaching position.
Wow, the quote “I’m happy to be here. I’m valued here. I can’t complain with that. I’m happy in Portland.” really hammers home the idea that he has openly lobbied and rooted against a potential trade.
I love Brogdon, but how does him staying here make sense? You already have Scoot/Sharpe/Ant, with Scoot being your PG for the future. Him staying on the roster only hurts the development of the young guys. Specifically from a playing time standpoint, not referring to him as a mentor. I realize he is a good veteran presence to have around, but why would he take a backseat for the young guys? I would think he prefers to have a significant role on a playoff team.
Fuck. No. We have too many guards & I’m sick of him taking minutes from Scoot. It’ll only get worse once Shae comes back. I like Malcolm but he has no place on this team aside from stunting the growth of our other guys.
That’s nice. Have to trade him though.
I think I would be the only Blazers fan who wouldn’t mind keeping Brogdon, especially if they won’t get a first for him. I think that he is a great vet for Scoot to learn the little things from. I’m not too convinced that playing Scoot 30 mins without a mentor is better than playing him 23 with one.
I trust Joe
This makes sense if we plan to trade Ant next season or if Brogdon wants to take a major pay cut.
Sorry, Malcolm, I like you but we’re not keeping you at $22,500,000.
