Austin Rivers: “I don’t want to see Bronny play with [LeBron]. I went through something similar. What happens is that everyone starts to discredits everything you done. Him getting drafted & playing with his dad, I don’t want that negativity to come his way. He doesn’t deserve it.”

I feel like the teammate dynamic would be very different from the coach-player dynamic.

  2. RunThePnR

That “Bronny this season:” stats says there’s no other way he plays in the league

  3. KermitTheEdgelord

I’m not gonna lie I read that as Austin Reaves initially and went “damn he really had the balls to say that about LeBron???”

  4. xerxesthagreat

bronny would also benefit from being half as good as austin rivers

  5. WillTheGreat

I mean toxic fans are already shitting on the kid for not being his dad, and Lebron fans literally shit on every players not named Lebron. I don’t see where Rivers is wrong. Dude is walking into the worst of both worlds.

  6. FlyingMocko

Bronny hasn’t done anything to discredit though. In an ideal world, this dude wouldn’t have a single chance of getting drafted in a million years.

  7. CazOnReddit

If he even manages to get drafted this year, it is entirely because of his dad

Bronny has not been doing himself any favors and people have repeatedly suggested he should delay declaring for the draft until next year

  8. ShakethatYam

I mean, would Bronny even be drafted if not for teams hoping his dad would play with him?

  9. Both_Funny4896

Lebron wouldn’t do that to Bronny. He’s just boosting Bronny’s draft stock. Think of it as the Shabazz Napier debacle on crack.

  10. Lol well Bronny won’t even be drafted if it weren’t for his dad. He has been struggling big time

  11. Calm_Froyo_475

That kid isn’t even G-league material. The younger one looks good but Bronny is not an nba talent

  12. FeminismIsTheBestIsm

Yeah I feel like it would be super weird to play with your own dad. People who work normal desk jobs with their parents or uncles already feel weirded out, now it’s 100x worse when you’re in a hyper competitive sports league, expected to win a ring. A father and a son have a totally different dynamic than even two friends who are playing together.

Austin Tate finna tell us he does 1500 pushups a day on his yacht

  14. Bronny needs to stay in school for all 4 years but he is going to get drafted after 1 year with a 5 ppg 35% FG because of who his dad is

  15. TallanoGoldDigger

It’s all good, the only way Bron is gonna play with Bronny is if Bron is willing to actually play in Guangdong because no sane NBA team is burning a pick on a nepo kid who isn’t NBA caliber who also has a bad ticker without an explicit promise that Bron’s coming with him

  16. Who is setting up bronny like this? Media? Fans? Nope its Lebron.

  17. IJustGotRektSon

Bronny shouldn’t even get drafted to begin with but here we are

  18. Ghostof2sushi69

I mean one could argue he doesn’t even deserve to be drafted or starting for a D1 team but here we are lol

  19. cyb3ryung

bronnys gonna go through that regardless but i see rivers point

  20. Ramu_1798

Bronny without Lebron would probably be the most irrelevant player on the USC roster, so I don’t think a world exists where he’s an NBA player however good/bad without LeBron.

  21. helloitsmeimherenow

If anyone is interested he has a really good inside take on the Bill Simmons podcast about his draft position and how he slowly became a role player and how difficult the NBA actually is.

  22. Giraffelack

Fair, but it’s a ken Griffey moment for the nba that’s never been done. Austin being an average player being coached by his dad isn’t quite the same thing as Top2 PLAYING with his son. Unless it’s clear his son is ass and on a Thanassis contract

  23. MajinHoops

Austin rivers is a cool guy. He followed me on Insta years ago and let me ask him a few b-ball related questions and he gave me lengthy responses

  24. larrylegend1990

Hes not getting drafted unless teams are getting Lebron. Some/most mocks don’t have him.

Lebron can wait for Bryce though, he has a lot of potential and might be a top 10 pick

  25. MasterMacMan

It makes no sense to wait a year and roll the dice on being completely out of the league. Being a two way player on his dads team is the best chance he’s going to have by far. How many guys like Bronny ever get a shot?

  26. Poopscooper696969

Bronny isn’t nba ready yet, he should stay another year in college.

  27. saiyiieee

2K gotta make Bronny the mycareer storyline if he actually does get drafted

  28. Shingorillaz

It’ll be worse in Bronny’s case because he’s not as good as Austin was out of the draft so It’ll be a nepo pick basically

  29. Lol he doesn’t even deserve to be in the league. He isn’t good enough. He should take what he can get and milk his dad for as much as he can.

  30. It’s too late Austin, Bronny is already getting as much negativity as anyone in the actual nba

  31. I_Hate_My_Cat_

It’s gonna be a hard road for that kid whether or not he plays with his father. Like Austin said, his name’s already Bronny.

  32. marion_and_beau

I’m going to be honest here: LeBron James Jr wouldn’t sniff a draft board if his name was Marcus Jones.

He’s an undersized two who who does nothing at a high level even in college. He’s a solid defender and a pretty good athlete, but he’s shooting 37.2% from the field and 27.5% from three.

I’m sure some team will take a chance on him in hopes of luring LeBron, but his *absolute* ceiling is a worse De’Anthony Melton.

  33. This is a super solid take from Rivers. He sounds like he cares and someone he’s been thru it himself, which he has. Respect for this. Tho I know Bron would never let Bronny wait out another year before getting drafted and Bronny will most likely get drafted cause of his pops. That’s just how the business goes.

  34. jokelessworld

All I know is bronny is probably already set for life just from NIL money not even factoring his dad is lebron james

  35. aquaman1417

Do people care what Austin Rivers has to say now?
