AD’s Post Passing | Laker Film Room

AD’s Post Passing | Laker Film Room

Anthony Davis has generated 351 points out of the post this season the second most in the NBA in this video we take a closer look at his playmaking out of the post while he draws extra defensive attention how defenses try to pressure him and the open shots he’s creating for

His teammates ‘s size skill and Agility make him a difficult cover Defenders who have a strong enough post bace to hold their ground down low against him usually aren’t tall enough to bother him up top and he’ll just shoot over them Defenders who have the length not have

The post base to handle ad’s physicality ad quick move with the Baseline throw it down big fella and Defenders who have both may not be able to dance the way that ad can R’s layup is good so ad draws a lot of double teams as a result and he’s

Reading those situations better than ever the first part of doing that well is reading where the double team is coming from ad is keeping his eyes up and calmly scanning the defense even when there’s pressure around him teams try to crowd ad and here you see

Him put the ball behind his head just so he can protect it as he’s deciding to make the pass he keeps two hands on the ball for security and uses ball fakes until he finds the passing window that he likes bounce Prince and to go Baseline and around the defense to score being

Strong with the ball and not turning it over is a key to beating double teams then it becomes a matter of the reads that ad makes cam Dives to the basket as his Defender doubles from the Baseline and AD makes the pass as cam flows through to the dunker spot the middle of

The defense is now vulnerable to a cut from LeBron who’s been reading this play the whole way oh throw it down ad isn’t directly getting the assist on a lot of the points he’s creating but he’s sparking the chain reaction that leads to open shots ad doubled up quickly re good pass

Underneath the Christen wood he scores maybe they’re going to come over quickly with the double D is open got it teams will try to protect against these type of baskets by not entirely committing to the double team but these zones are vulnerable to Cutters and AD is doing a

Great job of finding them Jabari Smith Jr rotates from the weak side and soft doubles ad stopping behind jock landale Toran then makes a cut along the Baseline which draws the attention of Jaylen green and then Dylan Brooks reacts toward cam as he cuts and now

Both LeBron and AD know that that means that they’ve run out of Defenders to handle the cut from the top of the key part of the value of posting up is it shifts everyone’s eyes away from the perimeter and that opens up opportunities as Defenders turn their

Heads to look at ad the short mid-range area in the middle of the paint is vulnerable to flash cuts from the weak side when the defense is playing like this ruy is especially good at finding this particular hole in the defense and if the defense comes up higher to

Protect against that it opens up the Baseline Cut ad is quickly reading the cues that the defense is giving him and moving the ball accordingly then when teams collapse into the paint to protect against these cuts that opens up skip pass opportunities to Shooters these are some of the most difficult passes to make accurately due to the ball pressure and

The distance of the pass but ad is hitting weak side Shooters with accuracy Davis oh that’s a good swing out to LeBron who’s open DLo sets a pin screen here to set up one of those skip passes to tan causing Dallas to react toward the perimeter but D realizes that

They’ve now left the pain of open and AD reads it too leading to a layup so it’s this game of cat and mouse where ad has to read the extra attention that he’s getting and then decide if he should attack himself or move the ball to an open Teammate and he’s reading these scenarios beautifully leading him to average five assists per game over the last Month

  1. Whuuuut's up Pete…
Are you legally permitted to upload current LFR pods to Youtube? If so, I'm sure the right intern would be more than up to the task, gaining invaluable experience while keeping the Zayas empire rightfully at the fore of Lakers-related media. ( passive-aggressive ask on behalf of fellow fans too lazy to bother with the toggling betwixt platforms )🙏

  2. This is where I have to salute the coaching staff and his teammates. I’ve been begging for ages that AD needs to develop his post plays. He was a point guard before his growth spurt in late High School – he knows how to pass. BUT the Team needs to move in order to create those pass! The team can’t just stand around doing nothing in Post Plays. It’s a read and react play. If your defender went to AD you need to move – either for a cut to the basket or a pin/flair screen to open others.

Kudos to the team for opening this up this year! 🙌🏼
