[Fischer] The Dallas Mavericks and Milwaukee Bucks are both showing interest in Andrew Wiggins. The Bucks would be including Bobby Portis in any package for Wiggins. Chris Paul and Klay Thompson are unlikely to be traded. Kevon Looney is a name that could become available.

> As other buyers are also keenly aware, there haven’t been many players of similar magnitude to Siakam who’ve even become available in this trade window. The best talent known to be on the board, Hawks All-Star guard Dejounte Murray, doesn’t make sense for the Warriors either, sources said — especially considering how strongly Chris Paul upheld Golden State during Curry’s bench minutes before Paul was sidelined by a fracture in his left hand. The veteran floor general was hoisting pregame jumpers at Barclays Center on Monday and looked to be quickly trending toward a return to action. Paul also bills as unlikely to be traded, sources said.

> Andrew Wiggins could be the ultimate swing piece of the Warriors’ current build. He represented the second fiddle to Curry on a title team not even 20 months ago and did seem to turn around a slow shooting start to this 2023-24 campaign before succumbing to a foot injury in Atlanta. Golden State had found some early success with a frontcourt lineup featuring Wiggins and third-year forward Jonathan Kuminga flanking Draymond Green. Kuminga’s emergence, scoring 20 points on a near-nightly basis, is the most encouraging sign for internal improvement for Golden State in the West. But Wiggins’ optionality as a trade candidate is the most interesting element of the Warriors pre-deadline decision-making. Kuminga — as Yahoo Sports has previously reported — is not available for trade.

> It seems more likely Golden State will find a smaller, less seismic adjustment to their 2022 championship core. If Thompson’s drifting away from critical minutes, veteran center Kevon Looney has seen a dramatic decline in his involvement for the Warriors. Looney’s $7.5 million salary could be exchanged for various options, whether Golden State ultimately determines they require shooting, more defensive wing depth or anything else on the trade market’s current menu. Looney’s deal is only guaranteed for $3 million in 2024-25.

> But Wiggins is the Warrior who’s generated the most significant trade chatter around the league. He remains a player in consideration for the Dallas Mavericks and Milwaukee Bucks, league sources told Yahoo Sports. Although in order for Milwaukee to reach Wiggins’ $24.3 million salary, the Bucks would need to include forward Bobby Portis in any outgoing package, and Milwaukee, sources said, is going to think long and hard before sacrificing Portis in any deal at this deadline. Still, it should be noted Portis was one of Kerr’s favorites during this summer’s FIBA World Cup run with Team USA.

The Bucks and Mavs have nothing realistic worth trading Wiggs for.

  2. If the bucks want wiggs, they can send over Giannis. They can keep his brother that way they still have one antetokounmpo

Bucks would really use that defense from Wiggs. Question is, what are we getting in return?

As bad and inconsistent Wiggins has been, he gives us a higher ceiling.

  4. Steve Kerr on February 1st:

    > I think [Wiggins is] playing well and I’m very hopeful and I expect him to be here when the trade deadline passes. I think he’s been a big part of our team now for years, helped us win a title a year and a half ago, still has a lot of career ahead of him, and so I’m really hoping Wiggs is here and as I said I fully expect him to be here.

Portis is a worse defender than Wiggins. This just just making a trade to say we made a trade. Not worth it no thanks.

  6. fizzywater699

Ymmv of course but Portis has been a slightly better player than Wiggins (by advanced metrics) for his career.

  7. Objective_Celery_509

I would rather have Wiggins than portis but he is the right kind of player we need

  8. StephenPurdy69

Hell no. As bad as Wiggins have played, Portis is an immediate downgrade.

Brook, MarJon, and Blazers 2nd round pick for Wiggins. Remember what happened last time you traded for a Bucks center?

Thursday can’t get here fast enough.

There are several guys on the Mavs roster who look interesting, including lil’ bro Seth.

There might be a 3-team deal to be made, in which we wind up taking less salary than we send out, and one or more of the Mavs players goes to a third team.

I generally prefer to keep Wiggs, but as with any trade, it’s all about what we would get in return.

So, with the Bucks, the Warriors would pretty much need to take back Portis and Connaughton for the money to work. Know Wiggins has been struggling, and his contract doesn’t look great, but Pat’s contract is also pretty bad given his current play (just started a 3yr/28M, $9.4M player option in the last season).

I’d do it if the Warriors still aren’t sure about Maple’s fit next to JK, and if they’re confident they could turn around and flip Pat in a future deal (maybe in an off-season package?). I’d also ask for Andre Jackson Jr., but I’m not sure how desperate the Bucks are, and the Warriors may not be in a position to make that demand (Wiggins has been playing better, but it’s pretty clear he was a massive net negative while Dray was out). If Jackson Jr. isn’t part of the deal (doubt he would be), then I’d say you gotta at least get that Portland ’24 2nd… cause I’m really not a fan of Connaughton’s contract.

Starting Wiggs at the 2 and telling him to just play defense and be athletic would probably go a long way for them. Definitely interesting, and I can see why the Bucks would want to throw Wiggins in between Dame and Middleton. Is there a chance they’d also be interested in CoJo? They’re already pretty small at PG, but with Payne being the main backup, maybe they are looking for another vet guard?

Honestly, don’t know if the Warriors are in that much of a rush. FO should definitely feel some pressure, and there is clearly something wrong with the current team/roster, but Wiggins + JK has actually been viable since Draymond’s return. Guess there is a concern about running Dray into the ground if he’s a full time 5, plus Wiggins’ long-term money.

If you think Portis can be an above average backup 4/5 for the next 2+ years, then yeah sure, I can get behind it. If you think Portis could start at the 5 next to JK and Dray, even better. Helps with the tax too, and I’d assume it’s easier to move a smaller contract like Pat (or GP2, or Loon, or even Portis) than Wiggins early in his 4yr extension. Also gives you a bit more flexibility with salary matching in future trades.

Could definitely talk myself into the move, even if you can’t get Andre Jackson Jr. or that Portland 2nd involved (…please at least get that 2nd). Would probably be selling low on Wiggins, but man, dude has STRUGGLED this year and who knows if he’ll continue being playable next to JK.

Is there a chance the Warriors try and turn it into a 3 team trade, so they can go after another player they’re higher on? I’m sure Portis would have a market if made available, but what could Pat (or Loon, if Bobby is taking over as the backup big) + Moody or TJD or a far off 1st get you?

Wiggs on the Bucks would be scary. You do these trades to compete, and as far fetched as it seems, when Steph is on your team you always have to have a championship in mind if you’re making moves. That’s why teams rarely deal with us, they don’t want to see us later on.

  14. cock-a-dooodle-do

Lmao GTFO out of here, Portis in return for the second best player on a championship winning team. Don’t sell low. Wiggs is needed for this team.

  15. neo9027581673

The Mavs can send us Luka. Otherwise kick rocks.

  16. vulcans_pants

If Wiggins gets traded, it’s more likely that a third team is involved with player(s) that we want, with the Milwaukee or Dallas being the final landing spot for Wiggins.

  17. neo9027581673

Keep Wiggs, but if Looney can net us anything of quality, do it.

  18. Derrickmb

Like Klay, Wiggins needs to get more of his iron intake from salad and less from meat. The excess protein is slowing him down. It immobilizes the calcium in the myosin sites and makes him slow and unresponsive. And there’s a lack of iron saturation explains why he is so lethargic, besides low vitamin D from it being winter. Nutrition/performance science is still not applied as well as it could in the NBA. Players still have the rookies buy everyone Chik fila or In n Out for road flights. Only the greats in the league (handful) are doing it right on a regular basis.

  19. Trading Wiggins is hilariously stupid. The man to move is CP3. For a stretch big or rim protector… Or another big, athletic wing.

  20. neo9027581673

Some of the best trades are none.

Keep Wiggs, sell on Looney, Cojo, picks. That’s your basket of assets to work with.

  21. absurdilynerdily

Portis would be useful, but not useful enough to trade away wigs.

  22. Sokkawater10

Just keep Wiggins. If anyone needs to be traded it Klay.

  23. Abject_Toe_5436

Bobby Portis is a horrible defender. That’d be a terrible trade for us. If we’re giving up Wiggins to not get better we might as tank this season by resting the starters. Only problem is we’re missing a our FRP

  24. AdComprehensive7879

Yess its happeningg!! Cmon do something. It’s risky bit at least you gotta try mike. Staying pat like this with this team will lead us nowhere.

  25. Peepeetodapin

    Wiggins is coming along.

    Team’s starting to gel together.

    I wouldn’t trade anyone.

Klay just needs to get his out of his ass and we are good.

  26. Redditforever12

portis doesnt solve the problem when you need more defense, you dont trade your top 2 defender for a below avg defender. Nothing this article states make any sense for warriors to make the trade.

  27. envisionJayyy

Portis has a 115 defensive rating, Wiggins is at 120. Draymond at 115. Giannis at 112. Wiggins is one of worse defenders on the team while Portis is top 3 defenders for his.

I don’t think it’s a downgrade, he just hasn’t been that good recently. Everyone including me wants 2022 Wigs but who knows how long until he shows up, might be too late till then.

  28. PayterLobo

Looney to Milwaukee would make sense. He is from there!

However, Bobby Portis is a huge heart of the team type guy in MKE. Might fuck up morale there

  29. iamaredditboy

lol they want to keep betting on the losers like dreymond and klay….. nothing no bus going to happen to this team now. I am appalled at Steph’s lack of leadership here. Turning in the tv to watch this shit show continue. Go 49ers no Hope with this team this year clearly…..
