Woj: The reemergence of DLo changes Lakers’ dynamics at trade deadline | SportsCenter

The NBA trade deadline just two days away and there’s been a lot of speculation about what the Lakers will do they take a three-game winning streak into the deadline their longest since early December but La still only two games over 500 ninth in the Western Conference last night LeBron James ask

What the Lakers should do you guys went four on two on the trip the next time you guys will play will be after the trade deadline do you feel like as a team you guys have proven or shown why you guys should continue to I guess invest in this current group

You this is who we have so there’s nothing else to talk about okay senior NBA Insider Adrien Wan elski joins us it’s who they have right now we will see how this plays out in less than 48 hours what are the Lakers plans here when you look specifically the deadline again

3:00 on Thursday how do they approach it I I think the Lakers approach has really changed in the last few weeks because of the reemergence of D’Angelo Russell leading this team at the point guard position re inserted in the starting lineup he has played his best basketball

As a Laker really some of the best basketball of his career in the stretch where the Lakers came East won an East Coast road trip I think about a month ago he was very available right now I think the Lakers look at the landscape and think it’s hard to imagine that

Given what’s available they would be a better team in trade by trading D’Angelo Russell but this is a team I think that will continue to be active through that Thursday deadline they have talked with Atlanta and they think they could certainly talk again dejonte Murray on Bruce Brown in Toronto that’s a player

They wanted in free agency they wanted when he was with the Pacers before his trade but I think this is an LA team that knows there are not a lot of difference makers available in the marketplace I don’t think they want to be in a position where they feel like

They have to overpay to get someone who’s not really going to move the needle for them uh but I do think again the reemergence of Russell I think it does change their Dynamic at the deadline and keep in mind because of past trades the only uh first round

Trade or the earliest that they could send a first round trade is 2029 a first round pick I should say so that that plays a huge role here in assets right and when the Lakers get to the off season they’ll be able to put three first round picks potentially in trades

Right now they can only offer one that means in the off season they’re going to be uh have a chance to be in the mix on some much bigger deals than are available to them right now great context for much more in the trade deadline let’s go to Tony and Mike with

Tonight’s PTI bonus topic all right wilbon which team should be most active ahead of the NBA trade deadline Tony this this has really caused me uh some confusion trying to answer this question because the Lakers are the place you start because you don’t you want to maximize LeBron’s time

Whatever that is and he throws The Hourglass up you know on a tweet but Tony D’Angelo Russell has nights when he’s look when he’s great and he’s not going to be consistently great so you going to trade that are you going to get better something better in return for

D’Angelo Russell that makes your team better I don’t know about that Boston and Denver seem set to me I’ll give you a couple of teams OKC which could maybe use a vet Minnesota maybe a vet when they get to the playoffs but Tony I’m going to go to something because you and

I during the commercial break we wondered out loud about the possibility of do the Warriors trade Klay Thompson and I screamed out no because I think of Garrick and I think of Pippen and I think of Messier and I think of some of the great Robins out there over time who

Were essential to their teams and their Stars would you actually trade Klay Thompson I could not do that well I would trade Klay Thompson if Klay Thompson came to me and said please trade me I don’t want to sit on the bench for the last 7 minutes and 19

Seconds anymore give me a chance to go somewhere else I don’t know that he will do that you know him far better than I you mentioned Messier it’s not like Messier he stayed in the same spot for his whole career do you remember that he won Stanley Cups in different places he

Was there but he didn’t leave while Gretzky was there it took a long time he went when he was an old man he left okay but but then but then he left cuz sometimes people leave I’m so happy you mentioned the Lakers because the Lakers are talked about on this network 24

Hours a day they are the Dallas Cowboys to use your words they are overrated and overstated and all people care about is to analyze them endlessly endlessly endlessly so it doesn’t matter what other team trades the headline is going to be either the Lakers did this or the

Lakers did nothing that’s going to be the headline it’s sad it is going to be the headline I don’t know how they can get better you know it’ll be another headline when they don’t get better they they look they’ve won three straight on the road maybe Something’s Cooking

That’s it we’re done back to you [Applause] [Applause] p

Adrian Wojnarowski joins Kevin Negandhi on SportsCenter to discuss how the Los Angeles Lakers plan to approach the NBA trade deadline with D’Angelo Russell before Pardon The Interruption’s Tony Kornheiser and Michael Wilbon chime in on what they’d like to see the Lakers and Golden State Warriors do.

  1. Dlo is playing well but Trae Young in LA would be special. Keep Dlo instead of giving up other things for Dejounte

  2. Id say keep DLO. Get rid of inconsistency such as Max Christie, Vincent, Schifino, and maybe Hayes! DLO is our best 3 point shooter at this point! 🔥

  3. Who would’ve thought the lakers threatening DLO to trade him would motivate him to play awesome?

They should do that to klay so that he could play better 😂

  4. What messed this up from the jump was singing damaged goods from Miami again in Vincent. We would by now know out of the three guards who we could part with, which one would stay to start and who would run second unit. Trading DLo for Murray is close to being a lateral move, with DLo being a better but streaky shooter, better at catch and shoot and is playing legit defense. Murray just brings a faster pace and slightly better defense.

  5. Lakers main problem is rebounding, specifically boxing out for boards and paint protection. It would sound crazy but I would try to pry Lauri from Utah or Vucevic because of his scoring and rebounding. Another route is go get either DeMar or Coby White from Chicago. Bruce Brown is solid but is just another guy with the same production as Rui, another lateral move with slight upgrades. Another crazy route is go all in on Trae Young, now that's an upgrade

  6. It’s dlos contract that is the reason you would trade him now. It’s an expiring contract if he decides to not opt in on his player option, Dejounte Murray trade may not change the needle a great deal now but you have him under contract for 4 more years. If anyone good is available next year they could package him and 3 firsts for someone.

  7. They tryna hype Dlo so he commands more on the open market. They not slick. As it stands ATL doesn’t want him. I wonder who else is saying they’re good on him.

  8. The lakers will make the same mistake and accept dlo's decent play in the regular season for him to become borderline unplayable in a playoff series when it really matters

  9. It looks like DLO done found himself as a NBA elite. Of course there's doubt. But what DLO did in the past 16 games has been remarkable. Makes no sense to trade DLO.

  10. The problem and the cause as of why is DLO still on the trade table is not his proven efficiency in regular season..but his proven inefficiency (to an embarrassing degree) in postseason!😊

  11. D Lo is the best point guard right now to compliment LeBron and A.D, I would trade Gabe Vincent and Christian Wood for a solid role player big man or defensive wing who is capable of creating his own shot.

  12. As LAL fan, I agree they are talked about incessantly, and most of the takes are garbage, they have been far, far more successful than the Cowboys, or for that matter any other sports franchise in history (sorry Boston, most of your titles came in ancient history). So knuckleheads, keep that overrated sh@t to yourselves.

  13. A lot of media hate Lebron but he sure does make a lot of views and money for networks and social media outlets he should have bought stock when he was younger geesh

  14. How are we overrated if we win a championship like a few years years ago and we also won NCA tournament this year we went to the Western Conference finals last year

  15. Whatever happens Dlo played this smart by making his contract tradeable and having so much press about trade rumors while playing some of the best basketball he’s played.

  16. I'd give Reeves for Murray in a heartbeat. I'm not sure why they're so high on him. Murray would be a huge upgrade on defense, can get his own shot, and can play point guard.

  17. the lakers will be better if dlo stayed and lolobron trade to other team…lakers has many talented players…

  18. All this effort for what? He’s just gonna go back to sucking again as soon as the deadline passes. He doesn’t care about basketball unless he’s about to get moved, or unless he’s playing for a contract. All these last 16 games mean is you’ll be in the playoffs again. But you can’t count on him come playoff time and the Lakers will be right back in this position wishing they had traded Dlo or done literally anything to move the needle. SMH

  19. If you trade D Lo that will be the end of the season for the Lakers. Lakers just barely made the playoffs last year but without D LO this season is a wash.. Dont say I told you so.. I said it here first!! So I can take credit if they do trade D LO!

  20. Lakers need to focus on their strategy and not load managing and excuses. They clearly have talent. Almost made the finals last year.

  21. Trade Rumor Dlo is a beast. Lol Lakers need a scorer and a center. They need to go after dinwiddie and drummond. These players can be had without giving up dlo or any core players and fill real needs. Dlo for murray aint worth it.

  22. DLo started playing well after trade rumors. I don't want a player that needs to be threatened to play well. If they don't trade him now, they'll have to deal with his terrible play in the post-season
