Doc Rivers Postgame Press Conference | 2.6.24

You have an update on Chris at all no just spring ankle um I know it’s uh they did x-ray and it was negative so that’s a good thing other than that you know just it’s tough low um having him and Dame and and Brook up takes a lot off

The floor I was really I thought we fought hung in there um you knew at some point you just felt at some point we wouldn’t have enough offense on the floor and that’s probably what happened I thought defensively we were really good tonight I was about to say I mean

To it felt like you could lean on that on that side and try to manufacture something which I don’t know if this team had been able to do that also what do you think of that yeah the confidence is growing you can see it you know um

You know made a couple mistakes which which is fine but you can see the confidence you can see the talking at halftime they were talking about the the little run and jumps we’re were going to do in the second half so uh the defensive confidence is absolutely

Growing and you know that’s a big thing for this team they can get that conf confidence uh that takes us to a different level just with jannis on a night like that where all the other guys are out that’s night where some Stars might pack it in just I think of his

Jannis has no pack in you that that and even you know with a minute left I was probably about to take him off the floor and he’s still flying around that’s why I told Pat to go get the ball and when him near the ball no no injuries get up

Know the way things are going with our injuries right now just get everybody off the floor get healthy but he he played such a leadership game tonight played great defense um he was killing himself over the fifth foul cuz he kind of just did it you know um but his

Passing you know uh is Elite now like he he just keeps doing it keeps finding guys keep trusting guys um that’s going to pay huge dividends later you mentioned the trust that also means shots probably weren’t going in from the three-point what have you seen from your

Shooting in the last couple games yeah just you know the Utah game you kind of knew you know altitude back to back um I mean that whoever scheduled a Dallas Utah have never been on the airplane in their life you know or no time zones you

Know so that was just a tough one we knew that um I guarantee you when they looked at that before the year started they were like this this was going to be a brutal game for us uh end of a trip legs you can just see it we got a lot of

Injuries right now so guys are playing more extended minutes I think that’s Pro and you know what they’re playing harder on defense uh so it’s probably all that it looked like you had a Neman rotation kind of set up to start the night once you get that injury to Chris is there

Any thought to bring you know Andre yeah yeah definitely we don’t want too many on the floor too many guys that haven’t played but uh Andre was probably the guy tonight uh that we looked at um but guys got going I thought Beasley had it going I’m trying to build Pat’s confidence

Back you know I don’t know if he’s lost it or not but um I just think he can help us and I I’m trying to actually give him more minutes I’m you know in a normal thing I would probably play one of the other guys I’m trying to get Pat

Going I think he’s important for us later as well is that is that why I go with him to start obviously not traditional Point obviously Chris and Giannis are ball handlers but to have pet in that role yeah we with Chris and Giannis it made a lot of sense you know

Um because all three can have a little ball and bring the ball up coach I wanted to ask you too like the Phoenix Suns they kind of had some injury problems early in the season two and they’re looking a little bit fully more healthy now fire line we got to go man

I’m joking question just want to ask you just seeing them kind of just a full Str oh they’re good you know challenges listen they are what we thought they would be you know I think that was said here in Arizona if I’m not mistaken um and they’re they’re good I mean they’re you

Look at their starting lineup you know not not any weaknesses all of them can shoot all of them can play you know every night probably one guy’s going to get less shots of the big three cuz that’s just the way that three tendem always works they seem like they’re good

With it you know uh you know having a Gordon coming off the bench uh who’s another flamethrower I mean they they’re uh constructed pretty well and then also to uh b bs like he comes off the bench you see the Phoenix kind of gets C he’s

A talented kid yeah he’s a talented kid you know he struggles a little bit moving his feet but he’s still long and he can make up for a lot of stuff um you know it’s it’s funny he’s been three or four places now and hopefully uh you

Know because he’s he’s a kid man you want all these kids to do well I knew was dead well so I wasn’t cheering for him tonight but I do want them to have a great career I want all these guys to have a great career there’s been times

Over the last couple years where Giannis gets The Challenge on you know top score yeah there’s been times where he doesn’t yeah just what did you like about him on Kevin we we had we didn’t have a lot of choices early on uh we knew him and Jay

Would would would be it um they have so much offensive Firepower the last thing we needed early was to get KD going you know and so I thought Giannis was spectacular early uh the length you know KD probably has Giannis and um uh Victor that’s about it that can guard him that

Matches up in size you know so it was good for us

  1. Like I understand we look better but damn I wanted us to get this win to shut media up I’m tired of listening to these bs things talking about us making a mistake trading for dame and firing our coach we need to have the last laugh we have to get it done in the end

  2. This game showed how much our depth is really lacking. I hate talking down on my team, but some players just need to go. This will be a long post.

Robin Lopez looks like he's on the brink of retirement, looks like an old man out there. Nobody is giving a guy like Dwight Howard chance, but DH is for sure better than Robin is right now, it wouldn't hurt us to pick him up. Or we should've gotten Biyombo before the Grizzlies did. Man, watching Robin play whenever he does is hard to watch, he's basically unplayable now.

I expected a little more from Cam Payne too, I thought he was gonna be a bit better as our backup PG. Management probably thinks so too, probably why his name has popped up in trade rumors. This reminds me of when we got DJ Augustin before we started our championship season, & he wasn't that good for us, so we ended up trading him midseason for PJ Tucker.

Pat Connaughton needs to go too imo. His name is also popping up in rumors, so management probably thinks so too. I mean I wouldn't mind keeping him if he was cheap, since he's close with all our core guys, but dude is getting paid $9.4 mill (3yr $30m contract, with a 4th year being a player option), that's a lot for a guy who isn't doing much. Crowder & Beasley are way better role players, & they're only getting paid like 20% of what Pat is getting. He's a defensive liability, his offense is super limited, his jumper is inconsistent. Dude is not good, at least for that price, Idk why we signed him for so much. Lol

As much as I like Beauchamp, he didn't improve at all from his rookie year. He's slow, a defensive liability, his offense isn't that great. I was hoping he'd take a leap this year & become a solid role player or off the bench guy, but his game just isn't meant for role player role. It's a similar situation to Jordan Nwora in the past. Nwora & Beauchamp both have talent, but these guys can't play in just any system, they need the ball to the be effective & they don't bring much defensively, they don't hustle, they don't have the intangibles. I think it's because they were "the guy" in highschool, college, or wherever they were before the Bucks, so it's a hard transition for guys like that to come to a good team & suddenly try to become a role-player. MB was losing his minutes to Andre Jackson Jr., because AJax just fits perfectly as a role-player. AJax is athletic, he hustles, he's a high motor energy player, he plays defense. Man, if Beauchamp had AJax's athleticism, his motor, & intangibles, he'd be good. Beauchamp is still young & still has potential, so I think other teams would be interested in receiving him in a trade.

I've seen Portis pop up in rumors as well. Imo, he's not as good as past years, but he's our most consistent bench player, so it would hurt us as well, unless we get someone good. Also, he's our only Big off the bench, since Rolo sucks. I say, for the right deal, go for it, but keep him otherwise.

These are some names that have popped up in our radar that I like. Dejounte Murray, Caruso, Wiggins, Dorian Finney-Smith, Grant Williams. For the past 6 years now, I've always felt like we needed some bigger wing/perimeter defenders, these guys would fit that description. We always had guys like Pat, Grayson, Jrue, Wes, Divincenzo, etc. All those guys are 6'4 & under. They're too undersized when we play guys like KD, Tatum, Brown, Butler, Kawhi, PG, Ant Edwards, Lebron, etc. Over the past few years, I just always remember these players getting Grayson or Pat to switch on to them & they would just cook them, especially Tatum & Brown since we play the Celtics a lot more. Jrue & Wes were great defenders, but Wes too old & Jrue is undersized, big reason why Butler could torch Jrue the way he did in the Playoffs. Murray would be great, he can defend & he has a nice offensive game. Caruso is a awesome defender, his defense very much reminds me of Jrue. Wiggins' offense has been trash this year, but we only need him for defense. The year GSW won, one could argue that Wiggins was their 2nd best player during that run. Wiggins shut Tatum down in the Finals, we need a guy like that. DFS is a good 3&D guy. I hope the Bucks make some moves, because we need to, our depth is bad.

  3. 1-4 since taking over 😂 he laughing because he can’t believe he stole this job. Bucks are going backwards fast

  4. No Khris, No Brook, No Dame, Giannis 5 fouls, and only gave up 114 losing by 8. This team should some fight tonight against a healthy potent offense and that’s what was missing all year. We’ll make some moves at the deadline and buyout, make changes in practice and be ready for the playoffs. Believe people.

  5. Invest in the young guys while we still have time in the season, boost up Ajax, AJ Green and Beauchamp, they’re gonna be needed when Beasley is struggling from 3 and Middleton is out

  6. defense is better but i still dont feel like we will win anything this year. maybe get to the second round but thats it.

  7. Guys. The only hope for Bucks is (1) Giannis stays healthy and (2) Doc Rivers doesn't and gets replaced by someone else

  8. Despite the losses you can tell the team has bought in to Doc. I'm very impressed with the defense, and the offense will come along. Especially since the Bucks have a tough schedule after the all star break, the improvements on defense will pay dividends in the second half of the season.

  9. Doc with a sense of humor – “they are who we thought they were” Dennis Green quote as the Cardinals Coach talking about the Chicago Bears.
