Having his bird rights is pretty important for next season.
Fun fact about Monte Morris:
He’s on an expiring $9.8M contract but has bird rights, allowing the Wolves to re sign him and exceed the salary cap in 2024-25.
This is very important

Let Connelly cook
Shouldn’t be hard to come to an agreement. We’re in the rare territory of being an upper echelon team with a potential starting PG spot open, and he has a relationship with TC, and his low usage, caretaker PG style fits pretty nicely (on paper) with the rest of the starters.
This is a nice little caveat. Morris is a really good fit here, solid playmaker who can shoot. Exactly what the 2nd unit needs and can fill in to give Conley some rest in the 2nd half. Plus we now have the ability to add a buyout guy potentially too.
Tyus would have been fun but would have been way too expensive imo for a team with limited tradeable assets and stretched financially.
Let’s go!
Do we know much about his injury? When he’ll be ready to play again?
I just watched a 5-min highlight clip of Monte. I’m sold. I believe I’m now a Monte expert. He’s exactly what we need. I’ve always loved his game.
Hang the banner now.
I hope this works out well. I was more behind the other trades than this one … but also because beyond needing a PG … I don’t know if this is worth it.
As the nation’s most preeminent Bird Lawyer, I concur.
He’s already got us in his bio and replying to people’s stories about him being part of the Timberwolves
He’s also from flint Michigan and was super excited to play for Detroit after healing up, and now they just traded him.
Poor guy.
Hopefully we win a chip and he can get paid and go back to Detroit. And hopefully Detroit can get some love again.
Either we’re not resigning Conley after this season, they anticipate letting Kyle Anderson walk, or Marc Lore and ARod committed af to pay a second apron payroll for the ‘chip.
I haven’t watched the NBA very long but I saw he played for Denver for a while and TC drafted him. That makes me so much more confident
