Asking you on the show Luke why so secretive what Jersey are you wearing right now right now Jonathan I am wearing this jersey because I don’t know it’s marel fult isn’t it ah there it will be I don’t know if it will be the last time I can really wear wear this

Jersey with relevance so that’s what I’m wearing I’m wearing the old marel faults for those of you not on YouTube but um yeah I felt like it was fitting I I have a thing for The Dramatics so I thought this would would be would be a good uh good thing to do

Maybe little uh nod to Marquel if indeed he is dealt on trade deadline day which is as you guys are listening to this so quick question at what point like after a guy is traded immediately after the trade it’s like okay it’s sort of weird to We The Jersey but at some

Point it becomes like vintage like oh I’ve been rocking with the team since this right like if I see somebody wearing an Oladipo jersey at this point I’m like oh okay like you’ve been with the team a while I’m not like oh why are you wearing that guy’s Jersey like I

Have an Ola Depot Jersey from the 20y year uh or no the 25th anniversary season rather where we we brought back the black and white Pinstripes I have an Oladipo jersey from that year but I just haven’t been able to really bring myself to like wear that like what do you think

Is like the time frame like at what point does it become cool to wear a jersey of a guy that hasn’t played for the team in whoever knows how long well number one I think that I don’t know if it’s cool but it’s not like I wouldn’t

Crap on it as much as I would just kind of like maybe laugh and respect it is if you wear a Jersey from an era where like that team’s stunk you know what I mean when can I wear my sleeved alred Payton Jersey you can break that out right now

And it would be an incredible talking point for magic fans everywhere or anybody that knows anything about the magic during the time of alred Payton that’s incredible you is it the gray sleeve the gray sleeve the I have seen you wear that yeah yeah yep yeah you can definitely break that out immediately

And if you have that like that’s how you know you are a real one yeah that’s why I wish I was like really into having jerseys um back then and like since I’ve been a magic fan I just really haven’t started until the really the show like

Two three years ago when you start going to games more often it’s just fun to have different jerseys to to go through and so yeah I I would say I would say though like when it’s been probably when you’re like five six probably like six seasons removed from that player I think

That’s a good I that’s a good point to that you can break out the jersey and it not be really laughed at for sure I feel like that’s probably a good point yeah so to tie in to tie in to you wearing the marel folz Jersey as we’re recording

This we’re recording this on the 7th obviously of February today February 7th 2024 is the 5-year anniversary of the magic trading for marel fol do like do you remember where you were when like that news came through do you remember your emotions do you remember how you felt I’ve talked about this on

The show before but my memory is is is terrible and I haven’t talked enough about it to remember where I what like what the circumstances were like I’ll never forget for instance the vich trade right because we’ve recounted it on the show multiple times where we were what

We were doing I’ll never forget that I was going in for a chiropractic appointment we never forget it I was pulling in had my phone basically up on the dash and my phone buzzes and it’s there right Marquel FZ I don’t remember um our our our buddy contributor for the

Show for the site fison texted me today about it and said do you remember your initial reaction and I said I think my initial reaction was what’s the deal who did we send away because W’s initial tweet was just that the magic were acquiring markl folz there was no details in that

Tweet so I think that was my instant reaction to that I don’t remember where I was but I do remember thinking Okay now what’s what what did we send away and then get obviously seeing that it was essentially Jonathan Simmons then a bag of chips you felt great about it the bag of

Chips ended up being Tyrese Maxi which a lot of people like to bring up but it’s like in the moment there’s no way you could have ever known that right yeah no shot so so yeah I don’t remember where do you remember like where you were I

Don’t remember where I was but I I do remember the feeling mhm it was a mystery right of everything that would had been happening with Marquel folz and I remember I for I forget what Outlet it was but I remember like follow not following the situation like like super

Closely but I remember being at work one day and I think Raymond brothers and and Marquel folz you know they had announced that they were going to find like another like a second opinion on whatever was going on with him and then after that like an art I don’t it wasn’t the

Players Tribune but it was it was it wasn’t like your typical outlet and they went through and like talked about everything that was going on with his to so when we traded for him I was I was sort of up to speed on that whole situation and I had never heard of to

Before the only other guy at that point that anybody had known with TOS was Landry fields and we know that you know he had some Good Seasons with the Knicks and then I think went on to Toronto and career just sort of fizzled out so that wasn’t like super encouraging by any

Means but the thought in my mind of like hey if we can get this guy right this guy was the number one overall pick you know two and a half years before that trade happened and just like the excitement of if we could get this guy right and we could get like Washington

Marquel folz that it would just completely transform the franchise like it was such a lowrisk High reward play I was like in Euphoria about that deal I was so excited I’m sure I was probably at work and and to be fair we’re not we don’t need to do this right now we can

Do this if if that deal something with him involved does happen but like you said it would change the franchise I still would say like Marquel did have an impact and has had an impact on winning and especially for this recent scent that’s been happening where people speculate what happened

Obviously but you know we have our our we have our suspicions which we’ve already talked about but yeah he he definitely had an impact his his win percentage the Magic’s win percentage much higher than with him at you know not playing however the not playing record

Him not playing record a lot more games involved in that one than the one that is uh what the Magic’s record is with him so take it for what you will Markel fultz was he’s been a lot of fun and we have no idea if he’s going to

Be gone I was just about to say we’re talking like this is like Marquel F’s eulogy is extremely high odds that would be crazy but it is like extremely high odds that he is still here after the trade deadline Thursday yeah after the season different story but after yes

Right this is the marel faults conversation will happen eventually on his impact in Orlando and all that yeah and we are going to talk more about the trade deadline uh a little bit later in the episode but first we’re going to go through some of our housekeeping items

Release but TNT announced the broadcast team for Tuesday’s game versus the Thunder play-by-play is going to be handled by Kevin Harland The Legend and then the analysts on the call Orlando Magic Legends Shaquille O’Neal and Stan Van Gundy and then another Orlando Magic Legend Dennis Scott is going to be the

Sideline reporter for the Night Luke what do you think of the the TNT broadcast crew I mean hard to be better than that wow 3D and sha the the guys that still run the franchise allegedly uh heard Shack’s comments a while ago that’ll be a lot of fun has

Shaq done the color commentary for games not that I remember I’m sure he probably has at some point but I don’t want to come across as a casual here in terms of like knowing that but I know there’s people out there that do but yeah I

Don’t recall him ever being on the call like that so that would be interesting it makes me wish I could be in two places at once so I could listen to the game going to dbr the game 100% you got to I’ll watch the replay on on actually

There’s no B so no DAV and Jeff for this one find it somewhere I’m sure Shaq will say a lot of clip worthy things on that broadcast that’ll get thrown around it’ll be good coverage all around a good coverage night for the magicall around between it national TV Shaq’s Jersey

Retirement and the the crazy things that Shaq says on the broadcast I’m sure there will be a lot of quotables that they will tweet out there or put a post out there on Instagram so that’ll be a lot of fun I’m pleasantly surprised that they’re going this all out for it

I’m assuming this was the plan all along I was wondering from a logistic standpoint are they going to be in studioj are they going to be at the arena and I’m assuming Shaq will just be dedicated to being on the call maybe not be on pregame and and all that anyway I

Don’t even know if it was Ernie’s Knight and all there’s Knight but super interesting that’s the way they finagled it put Shaq on the call really genius and is going to be really entertaining I’m sure I’m looking forward to obviously being at the game but then like that next day know re-watching I

Don’t know we’re we’re going to be busy that next day too uh so yeah I’m at some point I’m going to go back and watch that broadcast and I’m sure it’ll be fun it’s always interesting to see what the national perspective of the team to hear

Them talk hope I mean we’re going to ensure that that is a crazy atmosphere that night so hear them talk about that uh hear them just talk about you know Paulo and fron and the other guys on the team like that kind of stuff is always maybe it’s not always fun maybe fun

Isn’t the correct word to use for that for the national perspective but it’s always at least interesting to see what everybody else sort of feels you know about the team and everything so that’ll be really cool it needs to be a good night because if we get the doors blown

Off us or if we’d lose pretty handly I don’t know if I’m going to even watch the broadcast back to be honest with you I’ll settle for the clips on social media and that’s about it yeah that’s probably Fair now we’ll get into the state of the

Magic this week the magic are 0 And1 with the blowout loss to Miami on Tuesday so stupid um the magic currently sit eighth in the Eastern Conference with a record of 27 and 24 they are 11 and a half games back of first place Boston six and a half games back of

Cleveland look at Cleveland number two in the EAS on a six game win streak good for them really happy for you guys up there in up there in Cleveland not bitter not jealous at all uh they are five games back of Milwaukee and New York four games back of Philly they’re a

Game and a half back of Indie we’re tied with Miami but now of course as I’m reminded once again the magic have lost the season series to to Miami Heat so Miami for the rest of the season will own that tiebreaker uh they are the magic are three games up on Chicago four

And a half games up on Atlanta and as I promised on the last pod episode we’re not talking about anybody that’s not in the playoff picture and is not in the playin so if you’re worried about you know Brooklyn or Toronto those folks you can you can look up your ESPN standings

They’re bad yeah they ain’t good on the season Luke the magic are now 24th in the NBA and offensive rating with a offensive rating of 11.2 they are fifth in the NBA and defensive rating with a rating of 111.6 they are still 14th in net rating with a net rating of 0.6

Going to the injury report the injury report once again Luke is clean however Jonathan Isaac left the game in the second half Tuesday night after getting poked in the eye I believe it was by Kevin Love he basically like immediately came out of the game and did

Not return he only played 10 minutes on Tuesday night now I would assume Luke that if you know Jonathan Isaac’s availability or you know anything like that was in question we probably would have got news about that today uh taking a look at the injury report though ji is not on the injury

Report so I think we’re safe have they as a matter submitted it yeah they’ve submitted so if you’re not playing on a backtack the injury report needs to be submitted by 5:30 local time the day before the game if you’re if it’s the second night of a backtack then it has

To be submitted I Believe by 1:30 local time so at this point like the magic had to have submitted that in report and Jonathan Isaac’s not in on it so we should be good maybe the fact that the game got out of hand those last you know

Five minutes or so was the reason we didn’t see Jonathan Isaac laid into the fourth but it was interesting that he left the game didn’t return only played 10 minutes but again you know Jimmy Butler it pains me to say this Jimmy Butler did what Jimmy Butler does a lot

Of the times to the Magic in that fourth quarter we’ll talk more about that game in a couple of minutes but it makes sense if they were like no we’re just not going to put J back out there the uh the San Antonio Spurs can really help

Help us even though nobody ever does like you say but they’re playing the heat right now you guys in the future know they end of this already but the heat are up by two at halftime so I’m just really hoping that wimy can have a great half second half win that game

Give the magic a half game lead there and the magic just another tidbit here before we move on I just looked the magic are 10 and 1 Half Point favorites on Thursday the heat were 6 and 1/2 Point favorites at home tonight to them with nobody on the injury report which is

Interesting so Vegas likes the magic tomorrow by double digits you you can’t lose that game that’s for sure and hopefully the Spurs can pull it off against Miami tonight I mean second night of a back toback is probably what they’re factoring in you know to that

Of an all number one overall pick team and he’ll be uh put together with Anthony Edwards and Victor wanyama so they’ve been doing these sort of gimmicky teams each year here at the skills challenge you know like they did like the all anmo team the all Cavs team

A couple of years ago I don’t think they’ve done an all number one overall pick team and getting to see Pao playing with Anthony Edwards and and Victor remama has me has me thinking Reckless Luke like those guys are like man this guy pao’s really good maybe I need to

Maybe I need to get to Orlando yeah they want to be a magic so bad it’s incredible really is you know they got to so we’ll see them in Orlando here in a couple years that’ll be nice I’m excited for that like to me I haven’t even looked at what the other

Teams are for that skills challenge but that’s going to to me that’s got to be the favorite the Pacers have a team uh hie Miles Turner and one other I saw it yesterday maybe but unless it’s Reggie Miller in a time machine I’m taking this this Pao Ant-Man and and wmy team like

That size skill athleticism combination for all three of those guys is absolutely off the charts uh benedic mathine yeah that doesn’t that doesn’t move me doesn’t move me that’s the only house on the all number one overall pick team folks not literally but you know further Allstar

News which didn’t get me as excited Paulo banero you know now they have you know this NBA Rising Stars draft where they put all the the the rising stars into a pool and then uh it’s Pal Gasol Tama Catchings and there’s one other person uh that is a coach oh no it’s uh

Oh de left shrimp and then Jaylen Rose so those are the the four teams that are are making selections there and the only reason that I felt that this was relevant because Palo ban Carol Luke who is a rising star and happens to be the only Rising Star that is also going to

Be playing in the actual allstar game on Sunday Pao banero was selected number two overall by Tama Catchings because Pal Gasol selected Victor wanyama first overall and I’m saying it right now Adam Silver called it in and said pal wemi needs to be the number one overall pick for some

Reason they’re I mean he is the number one overall pick they’re hoping he’s going to be the future face of the league there’s a good possibility he will be as of right now Victor wanyama is not better than Palo banero full stop don’t care Palo banero should have been

The number one overall pick in this draft I’m a little bit salty about it I know it’s not a big deal but I’m taking any bit of like bulletin board material that I can and keeping the receipts in the disrespect and I hope Paulo is

All which is the norm for a lot of people unfortunately so is what it is but pal made a mistake National media you just get your anti- Orlando bias in while you can because when we’re winning Larry O’Brian’s there’s nowhere you can hide we’re coming for you and I will not

Forget this SL by Pal Gasol so Pal Gasol if you’re out there you do what what you will with that information it’s definitely not any kind of threat wish you all the you know well wishes and health in the world but if I see you

I’m going to let you know that I I definitely disagree with with your selection here all right let’s talk about this Heat game unfortunately this is a big game Luke this was for the season series between the Orlando Magic and the Miami Heat this game as of

February 6th and February 7th was for the seventh seed in the Eastern Conference like the sole possession of the seventh seed in the Eastern Conference Jonathan Isaac you know the before the game you know at their their shoot around earlier in the day said this is

One of the biggest games of the year for us and we’re going to come in and be ready and we’ll talk about this but the magic were not ready the magic were not ready at at all as a matter of fact um they scored their their first basket like

After you know a minute or so in the game and then went four straight minutes without scoring where the offense was literally there’s a a guy at the top of the key with the basketball it might be France it might be Paulo might be Marquel it might be Jaylen there’s a guy

Dribbling the ball at the top of the key and we’re all just going to sit here and do nothing but watch that guy dribble like that’s what the offense felt like for the majority of the the first couple of minutes in this game Luke in this

Game we had Marquel folz hit his first three-pointer of the Year from the right corner it had been a while since he had even attempted one I think he had attempted three or four threes on the season prior to that point and knocked in the three and then from that point

Marquel like really just went Super Saiyan like in the first quarter marel had nine of the Magic’s 19 points three of five overall in the first half he had 11 four of seven one for one from behind the arc two for two at the free throw

Line he had this um this sequence forget who was matched up on him but he hit him with like the In-N-Out dribble and went right into the spin move right around him at like finish at The Rim I was like okay marel is cooking unfortunately nobody else really was magic ended up

Going into the half with a seven-point deficit and it was only a seven-point deficit because Jonathan Isaac hit a three pretty much right at the buzzer of the first half or the magic would have went into the locker room down 10 and then the magic just get absolutely blitzed in the third quarter

Us getting outscored 40 to 26 allowing Miami to shoot 60% from the field 44% from behind the arc magic 26 uh 26 points shot 47% from the floor and 36% from behind the arc and uh four of six at the free throw line Luke down as much

As what was that 26 in the third quarter closed the lead a little bit going into the fourth and then the first few minutes of the fourth magic start to go on a little bit of a run and I’m just going to pull up the play byplay here

And let you know exactly how this went so uh Gary Harris has a pull-up jumper with 747 to go to make it 8898 heat and then in the span of about 80 Seconds Jimmy Butler hits backto back threes and then has a floater going his own 8 to nothing run

To make it 88 to 106 with 618 to go luk and that’s basically where the game fell over like the last like six minutes the magic were just like forcing a ton of ill-advised threes like trying to get back into the game those threes were not

Going in and uh yeah the magic end up losing that game what was that 121 to 95 in Miami to the heat in what was one of the biggest games of the year and hearing that guys were aware of that and that was the messaging before the game

And then that was the type of performance and energy that you come out with just really really disappointing like you said Heat’s biggest game lead of the game 26 Magic’s Biggest lead of the game zero magic 18 turnovers to their 13 magic get outscored in the paint by 14

58 to 44 the magic get outrebounded uh in total 45 to 39 the magic get out rebounded on the offensive glass 11 to8 magic get outshot from three 36% to 28% the magic get outshot from the field 54% to 43.8% this was a good oldfashioned butt whipping that the magic got in

Miami truly just abysmal and I’m saying that as someone who in real time started got home and was watching starting in the second half and then went back to watch the B broadcast cast later in the first half and I I could barely get through the first half of this

Game I’m just glad I watched the other half the night before because I wouldn’t have been able to put a to I don’t know how you guys watch the whole game I really don’t that was ridiculous delusion and a false sense of hope well obviously you have that point in the

Second half or what you’re down five and it’s like okay this is it got got to go got to go and then you get your lights put out it’s just like you know at that point you did you weren’t supposed to win this game apparently cuz they like I just listed

Like they dominated you in every facet and you said it in the postgame hit last night on social media where you said they’ve got vets they step up to the call and they made it happen Jimmy Butler the the reason the Miami Heat have not been an incredible regular

Season team like they’ve been good enough as you know since having Jimmy Butler they not been incredible until the postseason is because Jimmy Butler typically just kind of coast in the regular season so he might fake you out a little bit the first three quarters of a regular season

Game but come crunch time Jimmy Butler’s going to step up and come to the postseason Jimmy Butler’s going to step up and that’s exactly what he did against the orlena magic on Tuesday night so super disheartening really a bad taste left in our mouths and it’s all the more reason why

You have no excuse to not play your butt off until the till All-Star break comes and part of me wonders too just in regard to the team like are we getting to the point where the guys are just kind of like tired of the monotonous just just wear and tear of a regular

Season is that what’s happening because pal B Caro talked about that on his uh podcast appearance with JJ reic recently on Old Man of the three I think it was that podcast it was where they where they talk about like how February was not a good month for Palo banero

Specifically shooting a three ball but just in general and he talked about like the season just kind of wears on you because it’s so repetitive you just keep doing the same thing every other night and how he’s like had to kind of like snap out of that and you know prepare

For it mentally the season the offseason prior just games like this where I’m like were you guys just tired like were you guys just tired of the repetitiveness of this season ready for the allar break it’s your last game of the road trip just ready to pack it in

Even though you guys were saying the right things that’s really what it felt like it it didn’t feel like it didn’t feel like the magic that we’ve seen so many times times more often than not this year came to play and and showed up in this one at

All I do think there like those are all like small elements of what happened like I it would be disingenuous to act otherwise like of course they’ve got a week until the All-Star break of course guys are thinking about that of course it’s you know you know five Road games

In N9 or 10 nights whatever it was guys want to get home it’s you’re literally a three hour drive or whatever from being home I mean obviously they’re going to fly but you know you’ve got an hour and a half plane ride until you’re home like

Guys are ready to be there we’re 50 plus games into the season now guys are getting tired all that kind of stuff to me it’s just like we’re not at that level yet like Miami is a team that is Battle tested over and over and over again yes there’s been turnover with

Their roster but when that’s like embedded in your I don’t I can’t believe I’m going to say this when this is embedded in your culture yes heat culture when that’s embedded in your culture when like that’s in your team’s DNA essentially when you have guys like

Bam like Jimmy like Caleb Martin um like Kevin Love like when you have those guys on your roster that experience is like almost transferred by osmosis to other guys like even though you haven’t been there you have guys that have been there before so you gain that level of conf

Confidence from them and to me that’s what it was like Miami realized like Hey we’re you know maybe we’re not the best team in the the East right now but this is a team that’s coming for us and if we win tonight we win the season series and

And if push comes to shove at the end of the year we have similar records we don’t have to worry about the tiebreaker and hey they had a few more games they’re trying to improveed their record they got a few more games before the allstar break they saw this as one that

They could get at home and they went out and took the game and for the most part we went out there like we didn’t really want it Pao banero after the game uh said to to Jason Bey that despite going three and2 on the road trip that they

Have to be better he was quoted saying went to San Antonio blew a 25-point lead barely snuck that game out went to Detroit kind of mess around luckily France went off for 38 kind of barely snuck that game out so yeah two his point you go three and two on the road

Trip but those two games like you barely won those two games you can’t say oh well we went three and two on the road trip and be all happy about that when like games that you should have very easily won on that road trip you kind of barely won especially that San Antonio

One like never should have been close in that game and yes the offense completely bogged down if bronze Varner doesn’t have 27 points in the second half at Detroit that game is much closer as well so I’m just so happy that Paulo like the leader of this team and the star of this

Team he sees it like not like oh well you know there’s no excuses oh we’re just getting guys back everybody’s tired we’ve only got a few games left to the all-star break would have been very easy to make excuses but for him to just say like yeah we’ve been winning games but

We have to be better like that is the like the level of accountability that you want your leader to have and I don’t want it to be loss on anyone that again that starts with Jamal Mosley like we can say all the great things about palab banero in the world I

Love how mature he is and you know how great of a leader he is but that mentality has started with Jamal Mosley and the rest of the guys have adopted that he’s the one spreading that messaging so good again good road trip but this was such a disappointing loss

In my opinion and the fact that it came at the hands of the free freaking heat is just just makes it a million times worse during the end of that game last night when you’re down whatever I think we were probably down 19 or

To use it also starts with an H but the hunger that people have had for a trade to be made has just seemed to grow exponentially we’re we’re now at the point like trades have to happen now or or they’re not going to happen like that’s the whole point of the

Deadline it pretty much feels like the magic are going to stamp hat like they’re not going to make a a a big move there have been reports coming out basically that unless the magic are able to you know make a big Improvement shooting while also you know staying

True to their you know core identity of of defense and and length and versatility and so forth they’re not going to make some kind of move just to improve the shooting or just to improve a specific area basically if they don’t feel like it it still matches the

Long-term vision of the team which in their defense is most likely the best way to operate is that going to be something that is realistic through free agency this off season or or maybe perhaps through another trade that may present itself this offseason potentially at some point Luke I do

You know trade news uh surrounding the magic so Yahoo sports and Jake fiser he’s reporting that Wendell Carter Orlando’s versatile Center on a value contract is likewise no longer being considered a trade candidate for the magic League sources told Yahoo sports despite quite the vast amount of rival

Intrigue in acquiring Carter ever since Goa batad performed quite well as the team starting big man uh while Carter was sidelined due to injury so according to reports doesn’t seem like Wendell is going to be moved there there were some uh rumors last week that the magic were interested in

In Chris Paul and Kyle Lowry and some of this is has been put to bed now I believe that was Jake fiser as well uh who reported that the magic don’t have any interest in trading for Kyle Lowry or Chris Paul neither one of those moves

When the rumor came out that the magic were interested in those guys Luke neither one of those moves made a lot of sense to me so the report from Jake fiser sort of refuting that wasn’t a a big shock to me tus Jones has trading interest from the magic Spurs Nets

Lakers and Timberwolves now the Timberwolves traded for Monte Morris on Wednesday so I feel like that is that sort of takes them out of the running uh taking a look at Monte Morris luk but any of the reports over the course of the last few days or or few weeks any of

Kind of stuff that than we do but I I just have the growing feeling that the magic just wanted to get healthy and are probably just going to St P at the trade deadline like there there might there might be a move I would probably say I’m

Right pieces this team can compete maybe not quite for homecourt Advantage this year but the magic can compete for like the six seed like to not be in the playin to have a a good first round matchup and to push a team to six or seven games like

With the right team I think we can get there and yes guys are still sort of working back from being out for a while like is Wendell 100% back like he’s probably pretty close is Marquel 100% back like he’s probably pretty close and I know there are other factors oh you’re

On a big road trip yes they had the big win in Minnesota it’s right before the All-Star break but then you have like the just awful loss to Miami you barely beat San Antonio you reasonably could have lost that game in Detroit if bronze doesn’t go crazy and I’m sitting here looking

Like as as great as this team was in November like this is not this team is not that team like that like that was the outlier right now for us can we be close to that team I think so but for whatever reason like we’re not seeing this team play really well consistently

To the level that I think a lot of people think we can get to so for that reason it does feel like a move can be made that could get the magic closer to what their potential is this year I’m not a fan of making a move just for this

Season if it’s going to hurt you in the long term but we’ve been saying this for it feels like two months now if you can make a move that improves your ability to win now and also sets you up for the future like if that move gets presented

To the magic at some point I think they pull the trigger and if a move is not made on Thursday it’s because there was not a move that presented itself that match that criteria I put out a poll from our Twitter today and I’m going to read

Had been seeing a lot of interesting dialogue today so here’s a poll with the current Orlando Magic roster what will it take for the magic to contend for the Eastern Conference Finals and or the finals so essentially like at minimum like what is it going to take for you to

For this roster to contend for an Easter Conference finals championship First Option Oh I thought you were going to ask me and then you were going to reveal the options no no no I’m going to tell you I’m going no sorry I’m going to reveal the results I see I probably Mard

You no you’re good first one the magic are still a star away the magic are still two stars away the magic just need time to grow I saw that one today the magic just need to add Shooters and then you’re because then you’re talking about Pao frons and then adding a couple

Shooters to this roster then you’re contending right so which one of those four and feel free to go off the beaten path a little bit with it would you say is would be your answer yeah I’m GNA go off the beaten path a little bit because I think it’s and obviously like you’re

Doing a Twitter poll there’s only like so many characters and so many options that you can you know do there so I think it’s more nuanced than this to me it’s certain guys need time to grow and we need to we do need to add shooting like that’s just that’s that’s the NBA

Today you’re not going to win a championship without being able to somewhat consistently knock down perimeter shots so like internal development and then somewhere along the way adding Shooters to accentuate what Pao and frons do well but being as how what I just laid out isn’t an option

From the options that are here again still a star away still two stars away just need time to grow add Shooters two stars away is silly just need time to grow I think is sort of under selling the like roster construction that still needs to be placed here and the same

Thing for just adding Shooters so out of those four options what I think would it would take for this magic team to reach the Eastern Conference Finals of the finals would be adding another star to this team but again I’m sort of of the thinking that is outside of those four

Options but of those four options that’s the one that I would choose and that’s the one that that won the vote right so crazy amount of of Voters here uh right now as we’re recording this it’s at 963 so this poll very much is going to hit a th000

Votes and the number one option was still a star away at 43% the number two was that came in second was ad Shooters 35% 19% that just need time to grow and 3% that were two stars away in hindsight I would work this differently but I really

Was just trying to get the Tweet out to get engagement and all that to maybe bring it up on the show if the results were worthy of it and to present to you as well but I think that you would have to combine things like still a star way

Plus ad Shooters and just need time to grow plus add Shooters because in that scenario you’re saying pao’s your one fron is your two and along the way while you’re growing you’re adding Shooters you know through through the time there I still would go toward still

A star away and need Shooters in that scenario obviously the the most clear and what the people have agreed on is that you’re a star away I don’t know what that looks like but I’m hopeful that the star that eventually is on this team to be either the two or the three

Option depending on fron Vagner would be able to shoot the basketball and playmake and I think that star that you’re one away from is got to be a point guard or a shooting guard so I don’t know what that looks like and I don’t know that the magic get anywhere

Near that tomorrow or today is you’re listening to this I I doubt they do but it’s something to think about as we approach deadline what what do we really want to see yeah I just think we’re seeing you know sort of the the last version of the super teams that

Have you know three plus stars like you’re seeing it out in LA with Harden and Westbrook and Paul George and kawhai you’re seeing it in Boston with Jason Tatum Jaylen Brown Chris abs porzingis and Drew holiday like the further that we get in like basically starting next

Summer like as we continue to go into the collective bargaining agreement and like that new like second apron tax or whatever you know they’re calling it like if you say hey we we’re going to have three max guys you’re basically going to have like very limited resources to improve the team around

Those guys so you have to be 100% sure that those three guys are going to be good enough to get you to a title because if they’re not like if you realize a year into it like oh hey like this isn’t going to work then you’re trading guys and and

Then you’re just trying to build around two guys anyway or you’re just like oh hey like this isn’t going to work and how many times have we seen teams that are like thrown together with these stars and then it it just doesn’t work right like more often than not it hasn’t

Worked worked so that’s for me when we say like oh add another star like in the collective baring agreement of a year ago or two years ago sure because that was possible and you still had Avenues to improve even though you were over the tax right moving forward that’s going to

Be much more difficult to do like you’re you’re not just going to be able to like buy guys out you’re you’re not going to be able to you know like you trade you know picks and and so on and so forth you’re going to be really Limited in what you can do if

You’re one of those teams that’s above the tax so for me like my All My Hope right now is on the shoulders of Pao B Caro fron Vagner and then for Jeff wman and Anthony Parker to figure out who are the guys to put around those

Guys there are going to be teams that are going to go with the approach that we’ve seen for the last decade of like let’s just get as many Max guys on this team as we can and see what happens but I do think what most teams

Will do is like okay these are our two guys and we’re going to try to build the very best team that we can around them and that’s the route that I think the magic should go that you should hang on to your core principles and and identity

Of size and length and and defensive versatility but you do have to put Shooters and additional Playmakers around frons and poo I think if you want to be offensively efficient enough to to win a title someday being the top five defense in the league is awesome it really is but

Being 24th in the league in offensive efficiency ain’t going to get it done no I’d rather I’d rather be top 10 in defense and top 15 in offense much rather that than be top five there is uh one thing here just to to interrupt this that I saw a great tweet today

Trust this front office today on Deadline day no matter the move you got to trust the front office so that’s your reminder to do so correct and I just want I brought this up because I wanted to I you went off on this little tangent talking about the

The new apron taxes and and the penalties so uh I pulled up a boardroom Dot here uh which went over you know some of the the details and some of those penalties so um for teams who rise above their whose payroll rises above the first apron um salary matches And Trades

Have to be within 110% of the outgoing salary uh and that number is 125% for non taxpayer clubs and teams can’t take more money in a trade than it sends out uh teams can’t acquire players and sign in trade deals in the offseason if the income coming salary keeps them above

The apron uh teams can’t sign a wave player during the regular season if his salary exceeds the mid-level exception so that’s the first apron if you go over the second apron teams will no longer be able to use the tax player mid-level exception so when you’re seeing guys you

Know good veterans get signed you know to teams that are above the cap with the mid-level uh exception to bring in good veterans and and role players to their contending teams you won’t be able to do that if a team remains in the second apron three out of five seasons their

First round pick will automatically move to the end of the round so if you’re above the apron let’s say you finish you know 20th doesn’t matter your first round pick’s going to the end of the round uh first round pick seven years out cannot be traded if

You’re one of those second apron teams salaries cannot be aggregated or combined to trade for a single player making more money so if you’re trying to trade for a guy that’s making 30 million you can’t put a guy that makes 13 million and 17 you can’t put those together to make that

Move this is going to limit your ability to to improve potentially teams can’t use trade exceptions and teams can no longer use cash in trades if they’re above the second apron so just all these mechanisms that are put in place that hey if you are one of these teams and I

Think we’ve talked about this on the Pod but fron voner is most likely this summer going to sign a designated rookie Max extension which unless he makes like an all NBA team or wins League MVP is going to be 25% of the salary once his extension kicks in which would be after next

Year after next season Palo banero is also going to be signing a designated rookie Max extension which he does have the potential I think next year to win like you know all NBA third team like maybe he’s not going to be an NBA uh MVP level guy at least not that quickly but

We’re looking at about like three years from now the magic are going to be paying somewhere between 50 to 60% of the salary cap just to Pao and frons you bring another Max guy into the fold and you’re looking at 90% of the salary cap would be committed to three guys Sun

Situation correct and if you if you happen to get Giannis joic and Luca all on one team God bless that three is going to be enough to win you a title but that like the Dwayne Wade Chris Bosch uh Lebron James Miami Heat like I don’t see that ever

Happening again so when we’re thinking of like oh hey let’s bring in deante Murray or let’s bring in Darius Garland right like Darius Garland is going to be making like $40 million a year Pao and fron are going to be making between like 45 and $50 million I

Believe it is if if everything that I read with the you know the this is all projections right nobody knows exactly what the salary cap is going to be in a few years but just rough estimates and projections like those guys are going to be making crazy amounts of money and I

Just I don’t see I could be wrong somebody please let me know how this could work but I just don’t see how unless you just hit the actual like actual jackpot with three guys how having three max guys moving forward is going to be sustainable so that’s where I’m like hey

Like I don’t know that I want to trade for like a dejonte Murray because that guy just signed an extension in a few more years he’s going to need a another extension are we willing to give up all these pieces and don’t forget three four

Years from now fron and po are going to be 26 and 25 years old just entering their Prime like you you’re you’re most likely not winning a title in the next two to three years I understand where people are like oh well we we should be patient

But we shouldn’t be that patient do we need to go all in on a a Max guy like that I don’t know if that’s the right move but can we just like sit and be like oh well we’re not going to do anything until France andal are 25 and

26 of course not because if you don’t do anything people get unhappy we don’t want that to happen so you need to make moves to show those guys like Hey we’re committed to you long term and we’re trying to build around you guys now because we know that you guys want to

Conversations and a lot of difficult decisions to make but yeah I I’ve seen a lot of people saying oh we need to trade for for this star and that star and blah blah I’m like hey wait a minute like if if if they don’t believe in fron like if

They don’t think frons can be the guy which I think would be crazy I don’t think they’re even in the same realm of thinking that but if they’re convinced France isn’t the guy and you can trade him and and get a dejonte Murray or you

Can get a Darius Garland or a Trey young whatever and then Pao and Trey or Pao and whoever are going to be your guys that I understand what I don’t understand is like oh no we need to keep Pao and frons and we’re going to trade

For this other guy cuz I’m like at that point that’s all you got like you’re not going to be able to to really like resign Jaylen to a big deal if if that’s what you want to do or hey Wendell is going to be a a free agent um if not not

This season but after next season Wendell’s going to be a free agent I believe an what do you think of Anthony black right like what do you think of all these guys like you’re just not going to be able to pay guys at all you’re going to be out there like
