[Weiss] Jayson Tatum on Lamar Stevens being traded to Memphis in the deal for Xavier Tillman: “Losing a key guy to our team. Maybe he didn’t play as much, but his personality and how hard he worked, he was a great teammate and everybody loved Lamar. To wake up from my nap today and see he was traded
Really liked Stevens and was hoping he’d see the floor more. Hope he gets a fair shake in Memphis who are on the verge of playing their locker room staff.
Yeah I had a feeling he was a good locker room guy, but he was a bad player who we used to get a (potential) upgrade for a position we need depth in.

I swear 99% of player stories about trades involve them waking up from a nap to the news lmao

Tatum and Brown both make a really obvious effort to make sure everyone on the team feels like a valuable part of the team.
Wild contrast between this and whatever our locker room was in 2018-19.

Hope Tillman gets some minutes.
And just seeing Tatum say this about Stevens shows why fans should be hesitant to trade away guys like Pritchard or Luke. Threatens the good vibes of the team

Trades are always such a weird concept on a human level. But at the end of the day everyone should be pretty happy here. Tillman gets a chance to play a legitimate role on a contending team as he did last year, and Stevens gets a chance at real playing time, which is huge for a guy at this point in his career. He’s already made decent money, but this is realistically his chance to show he’s one of those bench players who should hang around forever vs. a guy who has a quick career and then heads to Europe or something.
Also he gets to play on the same team as Marcus Smart!

I am guessing that Tillman is a similar hard worker.
