Pistons Trade: Quentin Grimes for Bojan Bogdanovic | Detroit Pistons Going in a Good Direction?

Welcome into our locked on Sports podcast NBA trade deadline Edition we are here with kah Hill of locked on pistons pistons of course making some moves along with the ncks Nicks get boam bonovich and Alec Burks out of the deal and the Pistons get Quinton Grimes two

Second round picks among others when you look at where the Pistons are right now where they were and where they want to go with this season what do you think about this particular deal um I think the whole idea behind this deal for the Pistons is to they maxed out the value

Out of their vets which is something I actually wanted them to do last year they chose not to I’m happy they decided to do that this year this season’s obviously a lost cause um so anything you have that is of value for this team you need to Max that out on this season

And they did that with their best of their ability it seems with Bon BD donovich and Alec acquiring a few picks and a guy in Quinn Grimes who they are very high on and for good reason I I I very much like Quinn Grimes as well a

Guy who fits what they need on this team a three and D type of player um this move along with all the other moves the Pistons made it just signals that they’re trying to really add to their wing dep which is something they’ve really struggled with over the last few

Years so I really like this deal I you know maybe you could have got more value for Buon specifically last year um but getting quitting Grimes I think that’s a win for them I think they’ll take that and I think to kind of talk a little bit

More about Quinton Grimes because yes I think that’s probably the jewel in the deal for the Pistons and you look at him with a little bit more experience if you will with a young core of a cade Cunningham a Jaden iy Ivy excuse me and oser Thompson where do you kind of see

Him fitting in not just in what he’s able to bring these guys on the court but kind of how he helps to round out this young core it’s going to be interesting to see how they go about handling the rotation the staring lineup and all that because they did also get

Simone fonio who I think is going to play a huge role for them as well I think he might be the starter in this lineup whether they decide to start orar Thompson now he’s been getting brought Off the Bench over the last few months um I’d hope that they decide to start a

Star with their core four guys um so it’s gonna be interesting to see who gets it fono is it gonna be king Grimes is it gonna be um Mike muscala still is it you know who whatever route they decide to go with who starts opposite of

Those guys in heck maybe assar does even start maybe they start Grimes and fono together who knows um so I think that’s going to be the real interesting thing to watch for I I don’t really have a true answer for it all I can say is that

Uh Grimes for sure is going to get a lot of minutes with this team whether it’s Off the Bench or starting I and they definitely view him as maybe not a part of the main Corp obviously but definitely someone they plan to keep around um for a while here indeed and

When you look at kind of the players that round out this particular deal is there anything that they can bring to the table and like you say this season it’s kind of a lost cause it’s almost just more of what is it that maybe you

Can do to kind of help to get the the players that do kind of mean something for the seasons that are coming down the road kind of is there anything that these other players like a FN likea is there anything else that they can do that they can bring to the table for

These Pistons this season or cou do you see them as possibly players that the Pistons can retain uh no I don’t think any of the other players are uh anything the Pistons really um I think forier is definitely just salary matching purposes I don’t expect him to get many minutes

If any minutes at all I wouldn’t be shocked if he ended up off the team before the buyout a deadline um the rest of the players as well I don’t expect them to get any minutes for the team I think this really was just about Quinn Grimes and the second round picks and

The other guys are just simply to match uh salary wise um for the New York Knicks purposes uh but yeah I think I think all of it’s really just centered around Grimes and those second round picks yeah so what do you see for this Pistons team for the back half of the

Season when like you said it’s already a done deal in terms of not any type of run to the postseason but I I’ll be honest with you there were some moments last season where this team looked like hey they could kind of surprise you and then it just went South it went South

Fast and they stay South a long time the first season uh first part of the season and then they slowly started to pick up what do you see back half I I think the whole goal for this team at the end of this season for the rest I think next 30

Or so games the whole goal for this team is to put and I think they tried to do that we’ll see if they did it successfully is to put players now for the rest of the year that fit around their core four guys that enable those

Core four guys to see if they fit together can they play well together can they play better basketball moving forward because before they had a roster that just didn’t make sense none of these guys fit together and it was just a bunch of talent thrown under the court

With no real matching pieces and it really showed I mean that’s the main reason why they lost 27 28 games in a row um the first all the way from the start of the season to January 7th before they made this trade with Mike muscala and denil galari and K

Cunningham went down they were 28th in the league in NBA in the three-point percentage they were around 29th in the league and three-point attempts taken they make that trade for two guys who are 6 eight 69ine bigs that can shoot threes and now over the last month

They’re fourth in the NBA in three-point percentage and they’re 19th in the NBA in three. attemp so now they finally have some guys just in the last month adding veteran role players in muscala and galinari that can shoot they’ve played better basketball and they shoot much better so now adding ryes adding

Fonio adding these other guys around Cade around ivy around AAR around Duren the hope is that yeah this team won’t end up in the playin they’re not going to be a 500 team by the end of the year but maybe they can look at after the trade deadline they played 500

Basketball maybe hope um so that that’s that’s the whole goal here hopefully that is what they succeed in I mean if it goes bad even despite this they’re gonna have some other major problems to talk about but they don’t expect that to be the case and I’m going to say I don’t
