Bruce Brown is the ultimate draft trade piece. You can trade him for a player and a pick. Then the team that wants to free up the space can choose to not exercise the option.

I don't really care what happens with the raptors pick this year. If they keep it then great. If it goes to San Antonio then at least it won't be hanging over our heads all season next season
Bruce Brown played backup pg last year when nuggets won the chip, so he’s capable of playing the back up pg. Also bigger and better defender than dennis so I hope this was also taken into consideration when trading away dennis, bruce is also younger
The idea is to further develop RJ and Scottie as a one two punch. Last year, they got Jakob so that Pascal and Fred had something familiar and could cook and they did when he first got here. Jakob had a handful of double doubles and help garner a .750 record when the season was over. They're doing the same with this Utah trade. Captain Canada will be there to facilitate RJ's growth this year, during the summer at the Olympics and next season. All for RJ. He will also be playing for Team Canada, so its a good Raptors marketing play since we'll be losing a lot. As hard as he makes himself to be, RJ needs the boost to be that number two we need. Just look at how he shot up once he came home. Getting Captain Canada is moving in a direction: developing our number two.

Dinwiddie was waived. The Raptors are rebuilding to give more playing time for the young guys. It makes sense why the Raptors traded a lot of their players. If Raptors are lucky, it takes 5 to 6 years to rebuild. Every season is a developing year until the players are developing. It is a big question. Just get used to losing seasons. No star signing in the off-season and it would not make sense to pursue one because it would only take away minutes to try to develop the young players. Also, the Raptors never sign a star player in the off-season in the franchise's existence. Toronto or Canada is not a popular destination or a popular choice for all-star players in the NBA.

The Raptors only make trades and draft players. Also, the Raptors only sign mid-level or bench-type players in the off-season. Let's be real they might never win a championship again. Being not an American team is a disadvantage. This happens as well in hockey and baseball. The Leafs have not won a Stanley Cup for nearly 60 years and the Jays have not won a World Series in 31 years and only made the playoffs 5 times in 31 years. The reality American star players do not choose Canada to play for as their first choice that's why a Canadian team has not won a championship for so long. Americans love playing for their own country. I am used to this! Not a surprise!
Ben, you are forgetting that we will lose our pick next year if we tank this year. Next years draft class is better than this one. It makes more sense to try our best this year and maybe make the play-in than to tank as we wouldn’t have to worry about not having our pick next year. That’s why masai got Kelly Olynyk to help us get out of the bottom. Also there are other teams that are a lot better at tanking than we are it’s hard to fall much more than we have
I think Bruce Brown wasn't traded because they plan on moving him in the summer maybe on draft night because I heard teams are waiting until the summer to figure things out then. It could also be that the Raptors are still having some hope that they can get into the play in as well because I last looked at the standings they're literally only 4 games out from the 10th seed. I don't see an advantage for us in tanking, our team is young enough right now and we just got Agbaji which is basically a draft pick like GTJ was in 2021 for Norm. We only need a young center now like a Zach Edey, and our team is complete for the next 2-3 seasons.
masai is living off his chip, OG and siakam trades are fine but a year late, FVV, lowry and poeltl aquisition all poorly handled. Great we have flexibility to sign…. nobody great, we are living off past successes.
