The pedestrian appeared to be pushing a stalled car that did not have its lights on, leading to Highsmith being unable to stop in time. The collision resulted in the pedestrian losing part of his right leg, sustaining a compound fracture in his left leg, and possibly breaking his left arm as well.

that’s normal , most people go like 5 mph over the speed limit unless it’s a school zone
5 over isn’t reckless or anything so at least there’s that. Super unfortunate for the kid though…can’t imagine the mental anguish
he good Miami people just doing dumb shit
Honestly, none of this points to negligence or criminal negligence on HH’s part which makes me happy. Sad that the victim didn’t have the car lights on (possibly cos the car had broken down) due to no fault of his own. Just a truly horrible set of events to happen.
5 miles over the speed limit is literally everyone, everywhere.
Holy shit the victim got sandwiched between the vehicles? That’s fking scary

Seems like Haywood wasn’t doing anything reckless that’s good news, wonder how he is mentally after that and hopefully the victim is okay
It seems to have happened by tamiami. Terrifying situation all around. Just happy the kid seems like he’ll survive
By Miami standards, dude was 20 mph under the speed limit
No lights and pushing the car on the road…not the best combination.
I learned that collisions of 75 kilometers per hour and up are extremely likely to result in death, that comes down to about 45-50 miles I think. Good that the victim survived
There’s a lot of laws around what pedestrians can/can’t do on a road, even if a driver wasn’t following the rules of the road.
I have a friend who unfortunately killed someone who was out of their vehicle in the left side emergency lane by swerving around hard-breaking traffic.
Legally, he should be alright. Thankfully he didn’t take a life- because I know firsthand that my friend has struggled to live with that for years.
Hopefully this shuts up all the dumbasses calling for a prison sentence or making stupid comments like “he’s cooked, he’s done, he’s fuckin finished”. Clowns
Man as someone who grew up in miami, going 5 over is going slow there. Miamians are always doing wild shit with little to no regard to their safety. It really sucks for the victim but I feel for HH here also. Hitting someone and them losing their legs has now got a permanent spot in his head. Shits gotta be traumatic for everyone involved here.

damn bro just a tragic situation overall hope everyone recovers
Such an unfortunate event. Obviously you feel for the person that was injured but it sounds like a true accident that could pretty much happen to anyone.
5 mph over the speed limit is pretty much standard any where I drive and that’s a slower driver a lot of times.
45 on a 40 is reasonable.
I’ve done 80 easily!
5 over is an obnoxiously slow driver in Miami; he was driving more lawfully than literally everyone in Dade county, and we all know it. So now we can put the “reckless driving” suspicions to rest.
Prayers up for the victim but good news that Highsmith wasn’t behaving recklessly
sounds like everyone escaped with their lives which is most important, sucks to be struck and prayers they recover well…
Poor guy and poor haywood. He’ll probably be haunted by this for a while
5 over in the roads (except school and A1A) and 10-15 on the hwy you should have no problems.
