Society has progressed past the need for THT

  2. FERFreak731

8 rebounds from Taylor who has had low rebounding games in the g league, with a 3, and Block showed that he is just a prospect, but imo someone at his best a player who can be just as good as Kirilenko in his prime

  3. lopodo777

You know what. After today, this game IMO is a scheduled loss.

  4. BumbleLapse

Am I nuts or did Jason Preston look super comfortable and good in that last minute? Lmao

Gonna keep an eye on him for sure

  5. Time-Ad-3134

We need to have a talk about how often lauri’s teammates are ignoring him. How can our best player just be forced to camp in the corner while our guards play iso ball??

  6. Hoping that maybe Otto Porter can cover some of those backup 3 minutes.

my man Hendricks made some mistakes but did a fine job defensively, my biggest criticism of him is he simply has nerves getting back to the league but I know he’s gonna figure it out. Loved what he did on the KD possessions. The team still has a lot going for it, I just don’t wanna see the fake injuries like last year

  7. Expected a loss today after all the movement, but still extremely annoyed by the effort and body language of a lot of our guys out there.

We got to within 3 in the third quarter, Phoenix went on a 10-0 run, and the dudes just gave up. Pretty infuriating to watch.

Also our defense is really fucking bad.

    That wasn’t v fun.

I think there’s gonna be more not v fun.

I just want JayZ, Danny, or Ryan to say if we’re tanking, or winning. This team got worse, maybe pre trade a solid chance at the play in, however after the trades we might not make the play in. If Adam Silver says “With the 12th pick, the Oklahoma City Thunder select”, this season was a waste

  10. I had forgotten how much I dislike THT minutes.

Give those to Sensabaugh and/or the guy we got from Toronto I don’t care how not ready they are.

    GAME NOTES:

After a trade deadline that I’m sure no fan expected, we found ourselves in Phoenix playing a nine man rotation with no true SF. I’ll include my notes on the trades down below, if you care to read my opinion on them.

Starting off we rolled out a starting lineup of Dunn-Sexton-Lauri-Collins-Kessler, and it struggled to get stops. We immediately ran zone, and went down by as much as 16 in the first. Durant cooked us for 19 in the first quarter, which was his second most effective quarter he’s ever played.

Lauri was our scoring leader tonight, with 22 points on 8-15 shooting, 2-6 from 3, 4-4 from the line, 5 rebounds, 1 assist, and tied with Sexton for a team high 5 turnovers. He was mainly guarded by KD, Bol Bol, and Okogie, all of which are good defenders. Defensively, Lauri struggled. He was the main help on Nurkic post up’s, and Nurkic had his way with both Kessler & Lauri. Not the best game for Lauri overall, but still not a bad showing.

John Collins was our second highest scorer tonight with 21 on 9-15 shooting, 1-2 from 3, 2-2 from the line, a game high 14 rebounds (4 offensive), 1 assist, 1 steal, and 5 fouls. I think that the lack of Kelly kind of hurt him tonight, not so much offensively, but he was forced to pretty much exclusively play C tonight. He was a team low -20 in a team high 31 minutes, but I don’t think it was all his fault. We got cooked by Durant and Beal in the 1 and 3 quarters, which lined up with when he was in the game. I think he was our best player tonight offensively, although I would’ve loved to have seen more aggressiveness on the defensive end, mainly on backdowns.

Walker Keessler started for just the 14th time tonight, and had 10 points on 4-6 shooting, 2-2 from the line, 9 rebounds (5 offensive), 2 assists, 1 steal, and 4 blocks in 27 minutes. He is going to hurt the most from the lack of Kelly, and I’m not sure where he fits in with our lineup’s. He is good enough to start, but I’m not sure if that’s the best route forward for him. I think he needs to be next to a true stretch 4, so whether Hendricks develops a 37%+ shot from deep, or he plays strictly with Lauri, I’m not sure. Kessler had a fairly good game against Nurkic especially. When Lauri was in, he did a good job of neutralizing the paint. He had some good plays, like [this putback](https://x.com/UtahJazzClips/status/1755807078352892200?s=20) and [this steal on a pass to Nurk](https://x.com/Zeekon100fps/status/1755787023376359446?s=20)

Sexton struggled tonight. He had one of the worst defensive performances I think I’ve seen from him. He had so many head-scratching mistakes, especially in the first quarter. He finished with 19 points on 7-15 shooting, 3-6 from 3, 2-4 from the line, 4 rebounds (2 offensive), 8 assists, 1 block, 5 turnovers, and 2 fouls. He brought good energy in the second quarter when we cut the lead to single digits, and to start the third. He hit [this big 3 to cut the lead to just 3 points.](https://x.com/UtahJazzClips/status/1755796355191054578?s=20) Overall an average night for Sexton offensively, and a poor defensive night.

Kris Dunn had a pretty good game in my opinion. He had 9 points on 3-7 shooting, 2-3 from 3, 1-2 from the line, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals, and just 1 turnover. He played in just 24 minutes, which he should’ve played more. I think the team would’ve benefited from playing Dunn more instead of playing THT. Dunn provided some very good defense on KD, which is super impressive considering the height difference. He definitely should’ve had THT’s minutes.

Hendricks fit into the rotation, and played 18 minutes. He struggled offensively, going just 1-5 from the field, his only make [being this 3.](https://x.com/JazzLead/status/1755804902545104917?s=20) He had 8 rebounds (2 offensive), 1 assist, [and his sole block on KD.](https://x.com/Ryan_Kostecka/status/1755783168974897437?s=20) His length definitely disrupted the Suns a little bit, and his potential is there, just needs to be more consistent. It will hopefully come with more minutes in the rotation.

Clarkson finally had his 3 falling, and made some good passes, but that’s about it. 13 points on 4-12 shooting, 3-8 from 3, 1 rebound, 4 assists, 0 turnovers. A very unimpactful night for JC. His shooting woes seem to continue, where he is just 6-34 from 3 his last 34 attempts. Not good.

THT got minutes, and one of the first shots he took was a stepback 3 with 10 seconds left in the shot clock, which he missed. He hasn’t skipped a beat with that shot lmao. 1-6 shooting, 0-2 from 3, 5-9 from the line for 7 points, 4 rebounds (3 offensive), 2 assists, 2 fouls in 14 minutes. I hope we don’t see THT check into a game in the future for us. I was very disappointed when he came in, like I said above I wish Dunn took those minutes. Anyway….

Jazz lose 115-129. Couldn’t overcome KD & Beal. We had 28 assists on 41 shots, killed the Suns on the glass 52 to 36, had 19 OREB’s to PHX 4, but also had 16 turnovers tonight. Our defense was pisspoor, Phoenix shot a wild 59% from the field to our 44%, and 48% from 3 to our 34%.

    Anyway. Onto the next one

    26-27.

    Now some trade deadline thoughts:

I am glad Ochai is getting another shot somewhere else. I didn’t see the value that some other fans saw in him. It felt like we saw too many 0-2 shooting nights where his only stat is 1 singular rebound. I get he is only 23 and a sophomore, but he wasn’t part of our long-term plan.

I loved Kelly, and am most sad about him. But, he is probably getting decent money this offseason, which we probably didn’t want to make an offer on. Clearing him, Ochai, and Tech gives us about $39 milli in cap space for this offseason with just 11 players under contract.

Fontecchio was a very, very good trade. We took a shot on an Italian Stallion, and was able to flip him into draft assets. He’s 28, so it’s not like he was part of our future either.

If we look just at the players we got, it seems disappointing. You have to look at the draft assets. We can’t accurately judge the trades until the draft to see if we land somebody who can contribute right away, or if we trade them to bring in a star. We have 13 FRP and 5 FRP swaps in the next 6 drafts, I will be surprised if we make even half of those selections ourselves.

    Anyway, GO JAZZ

  12. Meh, don’t hate the loss tbh. We lost 3 role players, plus we always suck on the road, plus it wasn’t even a blowout or anything.

  13. Always fun to watch Lauri get to watch the game with the rest of us while he stands on the court and his teammates don’t pass to him…

  14. UteFlyersCardJazz

    The turnovers, man.

This is a really young team, but I’m not sure what the Jazz plan is. This is a mediocre team, and that’s the worst place you can be in.

I think the flashes they shows is proof that they can be a decent team. Missed layups and free throws is something that can be corrected.

I assume the guys we acquired will have their debut against Golden State, no?

  15. giantcorngames

I’m not just gonna jump on the THT hate train today because he did a few nice things but I just don’t expect him to really play much more in a Jazz uni. They have so many other options now, Preston, Samanic, Porter, Lewis, Knox lol. I wonder what direction coach goes
