Reposting due to confusing title. This graphic clearly shows the space the Spurs have to play with – instead of a team full of dead wood and heavy, lengthy contracts, there’s very limted salary output and a lot of tradeable (or usable) pick assets. This shows how much potential there is in a rebuild.

Our highest scorer this year is Wemby by both avg and total points, just a heads up

I think it makes sense to account for extensions that have already been given. Vassell and Collins both make a lot more next year.

  4. I mean Steph Curry HOF his salary is warranted. CP3 is an overpay

Didn’t Vassel sign the biggest contract extension in Spurs history? How is he not here? or is it from next year?

It is much more accurate to look at our long-term contract outlook:

    https://www.basketball-reference.com/contracts/SAS.html

Right now we have about $20M cap space this offseason, and then you add more space with Devontae’s non-garaunteed money (10?), and the increase in the cap (another 5-10), and then subtract our FRP contracts (5-10), and if we sign Cedi to an extension.

So probably looking at 20-30M room this offseason (and this is taking into account Devin’s extension).

And then 24/25 looks even better because we don’t have a rookie extension for that summer (would’ve been Primo) – so if we only pick up expirings in the meantime, could be looking at 40-50M, which could then go up even more for a very brief window in 25/26 between FA opening and doing extensions of Sochan +/- Branham and Wesley. (Similar to what the Heat did with Bam when trying to get Giannis. You can keep them with just the qualifying offer on your cap sheet, giving you room for other deals, and then sign the extension later in the offseason (I don’t know the date of this), or match any RFA bids). You only do it if everyone is 100% on board and if you think you are a chance for a big signing, but it gives you that flexibility to be creative with your cap sheet. (I’m also not 100% sure this is still possible with the new CBA).

But those 2 later ones are the windows I will be looking at. We won’t be in a rush to get better this offseason, and by the time we have Keldon, Devin, Sochan and then Wemby all on their extensions (and/or Keldon on his next deal, or a trade replacement), we will be over the cap for the forseeable future, and in fact probably a Tax Apron team if we want to be a contender.

So it is really important IMO, then we don’t screw up the flexibility we might have in either 24/25 or 25/26, so that if/when that big move becomes available we can do it comfortably.
