Joe Mazzulla says he wants to get rid of the expectation they need to blow out teams with bad records. “I want as many close games as possible.” Said they went over multiple situations that they went over in shootaround today.

This makes literally no sense and that type of mentality goes both ways. If you want close games all the time then you will always struggle to pull away from teams and blow them out.

Joe, that sounds good in theory.

However, the talent on the floor tonight vs what Washington put on the floor was so one-sided to the Celtics, it makes absolutely no sense at all that this was a 2 possession game with under a minute to go.

I get what he is talking about, but all of these shit-tastic bad habits just don’t magically go away when you play better teams. And we saw plenty of bad habits tonight (except the third quarter, for some reason).

    This is contradictory.

This guy tries to be too clever

    Good ole reverse psychology there…

“Oh, we really didn’t see it as a close game. We meant to do that…” 🤣🤣🤣🤣💨

Somebody save this post… It’ll come up in the playoffs 😜😜😜

It’s not about blowing out teams all the time. It’s about the team looking great on both sides of the floor. They were terrible defensively in the first half better in the 3rd but awful in the 4th where they gave up 42 points. They learned nothing from the Hawks game. The end of the fourth was a mirror image of that.

“I want us to be close with bad teams”

Brother, please just focus on winning games. This reverse psychology stuff is corny.

People complain we can’t close games, complain our games are too close when we do and if we blow someone out, our bench wasn’t good enough in garbage time for a championship team.

He doesn’t want all the games close but he appreciates the opportunity it presents to have to coach close games in crunch time. We as fans should actually appreciate that our coach wants to practice those situations in real games.

This guy should be gone regardless of what happens this postseason

Brother you gave up 71 first half points and 42 4th quarter points to a 9 win team. The game wouldn’t need to be close if you played some fucking defense.

too many dumb dumbs in here don’t get his point. he wants this group to face and overcome adversity.

Joe knows to test and forge mental toughness as a team and not an individual in isolation

Didn’t some jamoke say we needed more points in the paint? Well, we dominated there and we had to fight hard for this win.

Uhhmmm….it’s a weird thing because yeah obviously not every game against bad teams will be a blowout. But no come playoff time you will *not* want to have played as many close games as possible

I can see where he’s coming from.

He doesn’t want the team to overlook anyone, no matter their record or who isn’t playing for them.

He also wants them to get used to playing in close games since the team has a knack for being very “unclutch”
