Short-handed Nets lose to Cavs. Could Jalen Wilson have a rotation role?

Short-handed Nets lose to Cavs. Could Jalen Wilson have a rotation role?

Coming up the short-handed Brooklyn Nets took on the visiting Cleveland Cavaliers at home following the trade deadline we break down out only some of the young players like Jaylen Wilson and Noah Clowney on the court tonight but also additional notes for the Brooklyn Nets waiver claims and what will happen going

Forward in Brooklyn We dive in coming up next you are locked on Nets your daily Brooklyn Nets podcast part of the locked on podcast Network work your team every Day ah yes my friends it is the locked on Nets podcast right here on the lockon podcast Network it’s your team the Brooklyn Nets every single day over there you’ll find Doug Nory I’m Adam marre we thank you as always for making us your first listen of the day we are

100% free on all those great platforms and duh we’re talking about opposed deadline game for the Brooklyn Nets as often as the case teams end up being short-handed probably wasn’t going to matter even in full strength 1895 falling to the Donovan Mitchell Le Cavs we have the

Game we have the youth and we also have some other transactional notes coming out of what turned out to be at least a mildly productive day for Shawn marks in the front office in Brooklyn yeah for sure busy day go back I encourage you to

Go back and listen to the uh post the trade deadline live we did where we went on for about 90 minutes leading into the deadline and all the yeah of course A+ for us uh trade deadline grades for us a plus the uh but uh so go ahead go ahead

And listen to that new look Nets tonight and yeah like you said to be somewhat to be expected sort of like where they were being short-handed bunch of moving Parts out of here Spencer dwy gone uh Royce O’Neal gone obviously Dorian Smith and Cam and Johnson still still injured a

Rough game but you know among the the games that have been difficult for this team this was I don’t want to say it’s to be expected but it was definitely a time of transition as they work their way into what the team is going to look

Like the rest of the season but I think there were some positives to take from this one and we could probably start to project out sort of how things might go for this group you know down the you know the last third of the Season yeah

5951 at the halftime just to give a brief note on the game and then the Nets proceed to come out and say maybe scoring in the third quarter doesn’t matter 150 Run for the Cavs and that basically oh no was like 21 was like 25 to2 I I mentally I mentally broke down

At 1 15 once I got to that I think at one point it was like 24 to2 or something like that they were getting outscored in the third in the third quarter yeah so that was that was effectively the end of this one couldn’t find their offense and you mentioned

Guys that are going to be here Dorian finy Smith Cameron Johnson that’s kind of the double down even day Ron sharp put him in the group there too right three key contributors you end up having Keon Johnson up here along with Noah Clowney but but there were bright spots

And there is as you say things to kind of look moving forward here for the Brooklyn Nets while we wait to see when Dennis schruder likely Saturday they said can make his debut he was in the Barclays tonight for this game I will quickly on a side note because we are

Coming out of the deadline shuder gave a um a halftime interview and he’s in Toronto and for whatever it’s worth he mentioned that he wanted to be here wanted to meet the coaching staff wanted to get in with everybody as soon as possible he has his wife and three kids

They’re still in Toronto and he’s like and it’s just a difficult transition time that that that element of this where everyone’s families just start packing up bags and you start going maybe cross country maybe from Canada to the US is obviously a big adjustment here that being the case we talked about

Jaylen Wilson he got run in the game prior he gets run in this game significant and while there are areas we know he’s going to have to work on staying focused in the first half he put together a very nice his first 16 minutes on the court came back in Off

The Bench hit an immediate triple that gave him an 83 and three line I really think that there is as we said a lot to like here High floor low ceiling and you can think about him as potentially it looks like being a guy that should be up

With Brooklyn going forward over these last 31 yeah he’s he’s shot really well since he came up 40 minutes tonight we expected him to start after um you know they unloaded all these other guys they were really know pretty short on bodies All Things Considered so it made sense

That he got the start and he’s I think for sure one of the bright spots we’ve been wanting him to play a little bit more his timeline doesn’t need to be really like sort of like spread out here he’s already old OB old for NBA standards you know young for people

Standards but um you know just having spent four years in College of Kansas and I think like you know the the the body and his overall sort of just like understanding of the game was already pretty NBA ready he’s got a pretty good grasp of what’s Happening he doesn’t

Seem like things are happening too fast for him confident shooting catching through threes like pretty much right away which is a really really good sign for him like sort of around the archetype that he’s gonna be I don’t think there’s any reason that he shouldn’t be seeing rotation minutes

Really from now through the rest of the season and I I do think that’s going to be the case with Royce out even with Dorian infin Smith coming back even with Cameron Johnson coming back I I want to talk about sort of how I think the Nets

Should play some of these minutes going forward this season and we can get to that in a little bit but overall I think Jaylen Wilson is a is a bright spot that you take away from this game it’s like okay finally we’re getting to see some

Of these guys the team has been a really deep team up until this point they’re still have elements of depth I think but there’s more definitely they moved out a lot of minutes here right between just between D den wty and O’Neal that’s a lot of minutes to move

Out of a lineup for a group that hasn’t been 100% healthy and so I think Jaylen Wilson we should be in store not 40 minutes in starting but you know 15 18 minutes off the bench that’s really should be in the cards for the way the

Nets are going to roll here yeah and overall with his game just all use tonight specifically though we’re confident or at least excited about what he can be and also the remaining 31 games is so that you know it’s a second round pick so if you told me that it

Didn’t work out with him it’s not like you’re going to say oh my goodness how did you waste that draft asset right but you would like to know confirm can he be a rotation player for us going forward tonight he looked good I like the fact

That he can handle the ball going into the paint and pulling it back out if he needs to the one area and I’m not doing this I’m doing this because if he adjusts this element as he moves over the rest of this season I’ll get even

More excited when he gets into the paint we’ve said this before he’s not the mo most athletic he doesn’t have an electric First Step he’s not going to get around the corner and beat you to the basket so when he gets into the paint go ahead and take that step back

And and pull the little mid-range jumper there right he got into the body of Defenders a couple times tonight and just kind of got the reality check hey these guys are big and long in the NBA they’re going to swallow up a few of those shots but overall really positive

For Jaylen Wilson coming out of this game and as you say you know you had Royce O’Neal his numbers were coming down in terms of minutes a little bit I don’t think Jaylen Wilson goes one to one minute replacement we’ll see how sh shudder comes in and how that impacts

Things as well with how DIY was playing but I would like to see consistency here 18 you said 18 minutes or so every single night not in spot situations give him the run that allows him to get consistent opportunities here especially with some of the other younger players

You have inside of this second unit yeah and you know look just Cameron Johnson and Dorian Vinnie Smith coming back will cut into his minutes right like the three four and so I think that would really pretty much drive it down but a good a good thing about Wilson that

We’ve seen is he’s pretty plug in play with a lot of different lineups right like that’s why guys like this are typically really valuable in the NBA right it’s because you know when you’re sort of like longish and you can shoot some threes and you can get in front of

You know some varieties of different kind of guys off the dribble then you’re going to be able to play with a lot of different lineup so I think overall that’s a really a good takeaway I think that like the Nets probably hopefully need to be a little bit committed to

Some of this for the rest of the season we already know and look you know some of these guys that came in on trades like Thad young waved Jordan Goodwin waved like these guys aren’t going to be on the team so even some of the guys

It’s not like they brought in except for Schroeder and I think KD b um or uh besides those two guys I don’t think anyone else is coming in the door so I think that like the path is pretty clear and look I know the Nets lost tonight

They got killed I don’t think there’s are we taking things away from this game no like I think there are things that we can take away around sort of like what could take shape over the rest of the season I think Jaylen Wilson’s definitely one of them let’s talk about

Here coming up in a second Noah Clowney he got a little bit of run here maybe that’s not going to be a long term thing over the remainder of this season and then also speculating you mentioned Dennis shuder how are they going to reconstruct the way these rotations look

We’ll dive in on that as we work our way through the post game and the post deadline coming up next all right before we get to that our partners in eBay Motors the teamed up with locked on Fantasy Basketball host Josh Lloyd bringing some of the best

The whole league that your eyes can go cross trying to look at it all there are some uh situations that are definitely going to open up for some of these teams one’s Marvin Bagley uh he’s probably gonna end up starting at center after they moved out Daniel Gafford now ran

Holmes did come back in that trade but I think they were already gonna want to play baggley minutes here huge fantasy boost for Marvin Bagley the third if he’s gonna be the starting center in Washington which he should be uh also Oscar Thompson the Pistons they got rid

Of bogie they got rid of Alec Burks they got rid of kind of a lot of the guys like wave Daniel house a lot of guys out the door over there should open up uh for osar Thompson he started again tonight and he’s been able to really

Pile it on can’t shoot still but he can basically do everything else that you see across the Box cour Cody Martin also has been starting a point guard for Lamela ball while Lamela ball has been out was able to really really fill it up with minutes their roster stayed mostly

The same Gordon H were traded but he really wasn’t playing but Cody Martin should have a role going forward just some of what you can get over there Josh Lloyd from Lockdown fantasy basketball there to help you with your fantasy Championship eBay Motors knows the championship team is all about each

Instances when he’s been called up for some spot starts I I think we do continue to be encouraged that his developmental line is a little bit further along than we expected you see him taking the shots from the perimeter that’s something that as a prospect coming out you believe that’s that’s an

Area of his game that he can develop it’s unlike watching Nicholas Claxton and thinking oh is he ever going to get there he’s never going to become that guy Noah Clowny has that in his developmental repertoire and do you think that there’s any world where this

Is basically he’ll be back down in the G League developing even if he comes up incrementally over the r of the Season different scenario than Jaylen Wilson or can he squeeze in yeah I’m not sure about this one this one’s gonna be interesting I think the good news for

Clowny is there’s a couple things that have sort of happened since summer league and the time they spent in Long Island like he looks a lot more comfortable on the court support and be before he looked kind of like he just didn’t know where he was going it could

Be hard when you’re a rim protector when you’re asked to you know switch on defense when you are getting some sort of tougher assignments you can get kind of lost he was kind of getting lost on defense early on that was that’s not happening nearly as much now I think

He’s just I think the pace of the he’s just caught up to the pace of the game I think right more than he had earlier also he just looks bigger like I like he’s definitely start to fill out a little bit I don’t know if it’s the

Regiment or just like playing more just like this weight training that he’s doing but he looks a little to me at least a little more filled out uh just like sort of the body looked a little more like NBA ready so he looked I mean he looked looked really bad in summer

League right so he did not look he has not looked bad here in these minutes I thought he looked a lot more comfortable getting to the rim you had a nice actually sort of like underhand scoop finish which was pretty uh pretty deaf

Uh for a big guy to be able to do that around the rim he’s also able to finish of the rim just like sort of like above it and we already I think he’s gonna be a pretty good shop Locker by the time it’s all said and done I’m not he’s

Still so young it’s a little different than the Wilson situation and when Dron comes back there’s not as much of a path I do wonder if they’re gonna want to try to maybe make him like stretch 4ish they have been really hesitant to do this with different guys like Claxton

Specifically who like maybe could have at some point gotten there on that but the shooting is never G to be there probably at this point I wonder if like they Envision that as being like the ultimate thing because like he can take some but I don’t anyway I I was still I was

Really encouraged what we saw tonight from him I thought that I thought that looked way better than what we’ve seen from him in the past and it was extended run over 20 minutes so yeah I I I just don’t know if that’s going to be a

Consistent thing yeah and we keep an eye on it but it seems that’s obviously less likely than Jaylen Wilson the other thing you mentioned as we said schroer was in the building Scher was in the building excuse me uh tonight could Premiere and debut for the Brooklyn Nets

On Saturday how how do you see this shaking out we said earlier when we did did our trade deadline coverage that Dennis Smith Jr was discussed and possibly in and then out of the Toronto Raptors trade now when you reshape this back court do do you see it being as

He’s the flex player that goes in between right ball handling shooting Etc does it diminish anybody in a way where maybe ultimately we reflect on Well if Dennis mitt Jr was maybe in the deal then what does that mean like what does it mean when Schroeder starts to get his

Legs underneath here could we actually see dsj get a reduced role and and maybe more a defensive backourt specialist when called upon yeah so he’s not going to start I think they’re going to keep rolling with this like with Ben Simmons M cam one of the like one of the fours

That can play cam Johnson or Dorian fre Smith and claxon so I don’t think shter is gonna start think he’s gonna come in Off the Bench I think you’ll probably not try to pair him too much with Cam Thomas because that’s just gonna be really small but they have at times been

Okay with that sometimes because like the Personnel is just lacking I think that they’ll probably my guess is they probably try to to stagger those minutes a little bit knowing that schroer can come in playmake a little bit he can get to the rim he can run some pick and roll

Right like maybe you try to reestablish some of that with Claxton or Dron when he’s back and I think he should be able to do that with a good screen Setter so I think he’s gonna be more like that I bet you we see him like staggered

Minutes off cam Thomas I don’t know if we see them play tons and tons together but remember and we saw this a lot tonight like the Nets are just down ball handlers like you could even feel tonight they just don’t have enough ball handling and now that DW’s gone when

DW’s gone they didn’t bring in the replacement right away you really really felt that tonight they just didn’t have it like they it was just so hard for them to like sort of generate half court offense um I think he will help stabilize that my guess is something

Like 22 to 24 minutes a game yeah yeah that sounds about right to me do you also my my also inclination here is you made the smart move of moving on from some veteran guys didn’t would be included the way that he was playing of

Late also made it easier to want to move on from him likewise with Royce O’Neal you know opening up the minutes for Jaylen Wilson is a good thing the lack of ball handling is bad I’m trying to Envision how how shrer helps this team like this was an active choice now you

Can say the money got you gotta make these things match so maybe that that’s the part is I want to get into with Shawn marks not in a negative way one side of the other you feel like you’re compelled to move on from dwy you need to match salary so is that ultimately

All that truder represents as opposed to as we’ve said after the KD and Kyrie trades massaging this thing into a version of a roster that you think compliments a little bit better than it had previously I don’t know if you get there as you mentioned simply because

You still lack more ball handling that you needed no matter what keep Spencer didn’t what he don’t had shudder you still needed more ball handling and they didn’t improve that area over the course of this deadline well they you know at worst you can say they made a lateral move right

Like they they stood Pat and okay and that I think be sign you would I think it stands a reason that like shuder will be significantly more aggressive than DW he has didn’t we had disappeared in the offense he was like a total non-factor and so I don’t think you’re like losing

Much there if anything because he had just kind of between whatever whatever they were running and maybe just like his General disposition or whatever there was nothing happening there so I don’t think I I think that like from there it’s a lateral move you definitely on defense I think den wy’s defense was

Fine he got tasked with a lot of diff difficult assignments um you lose there but maybe you’re like well we have enough but I think it was most I think this was the Sher thing was mostly a function of we need to get dwy out of

Here for sure we have to find someone that’s gonna match the salaries Toronto can do it and they don’t want to go another year on schroer because they’re just doing something totally different now with IQ and Barrett and these guys and he just doesn’t have a place so they I think

Just kind of helped everyone get out of a sticky is spot that they were in right I think that’s kind of where and I think that’s like where that trade ended up Landing I don’t think it’s like everyone no one was doing back flips about it I mean obviously the Raptors instantly

Waved him and then did what he was at the Knicks game tonight yeah like sitting behind behind the bench at the Knicks game so I think it was mostly just like hey we can get someone else here that can play some minutes we’re definitely going to need some ball

Handling um and he at least represents that and I wonder actually this is just like the only deal that presented itself let’s go here coming up in a second a ler deeper as we have heard from Shawn Marx in as far as how he feels the fans should view this deadline and

Maintaining a positive outlook going forward for this franchise we dive in on those comments and takeaways coming up next all right first tell you about our friends over at Nissan you’re the kind of driver that likes to push things a little further ever wonder what a venture could be around the next Corner

Adventure shop nissanusa.com all right so as we tie a bow on the postgame and more importantly the deadline uh friend of the show Eric Slater at halftime Shawn marks was being asked some questions coming out of this deadline the moves that were made and essentially when asked from Eric SL

What the message would be to fans who are unsure about the Net’s Direction quote those fans seven or eight years ago were sitting here going they probably didn’t really know what the direction was then I have the utmost faith in this group this group of players and this staff to go out there

And put a sustainable product on the floor that’s going to be the goal here that we can compete night in and night out something that the fans can be can get behind and play the right brand of basketball now more importantly beyond that is that he went on to say being in

A position go get a superstar that was you know the ultimate thing is here that’s what we positioned ourselves to be able to do do you think that it’s should the fan base take that to heart in the sense of hey I did this once and

That’s that’s the goal here to do it again to build this back up to get Superstars and to try to have a better version of what we just tried to do over the last few seasons I whether or not you think Shawn marks is perfect he has

Shown that he can do that so you can make the case as we as we have before he’s one of the better GMS for this set of circumstances to trust with with building it back up now whether or not it’s ultimately successful that’s another that’s another scenario but he

Has been good finding byow assets right acre talent and making an attractive spot for Superstars potentially to come to yeah it’s clear that this is the path they want to take um I am holding out hope that it works I have severe reservations about it about like where

This team is just well if a game like tonight for Donovan Mitchell didn’t make him want to pack his bags right now and come to Brooklyn what’s GNA do it what’s gonna that does seem to be like one of the guys are waiting for like they’re obviously there’s you know a very small

Group of guys that they’re probably referencing here there’s been you know rumors that Trey Young’s going to shake loose here this summer too that was kind of posited by a few people before the trade deadline Kevin oconor really had that pretty early um and now this is

Starting to come out too Jake fiser had it after uh the game tonight well not this next game but he reported tonight that one of the reasons the Hawks people sort of like hit the breaks on some of the dejonte talks was they started to get the idea that Trey young might come

Loose here over the summer so I mean there’s always there are going to be guys that that um that sort of like present themselves as options I guess the question becomes like who is a superstar to you and who are the guys to like ultimately go after uh you know

It’s it’s you can watch Donovan Mitchell here I watched him a ton this year I he’s a he looks like he’s on a totally different level right you maybe think he is that guy maybe you think Trey Young’s that guy I know there’s probably people out there that probably maybe don’t see

That the same way I probably a little higher on Trey than some people but I can understand not loving it but I must guess my point is it is a bit of a scarier proposition this time around than the first time just because I think that the paths to acquiring these guys

Are just not as clear as just hey when Katie and Kyrie hit free agency will sign them and I appreciate the effort this the superstars League you need Superstars to win it all but I’m just a little worried about this particular path like based on where

They are guys they have ages of certain guys sort of like what they have like built up on the rocks on with and the bricks on which they’re standing I just think that it’s a little flimsy to me and that makes me a little worried about

Like the crash and burn or the or the you I’m mixing my metaphors that makes me worried that it has like a little there’s a little too good of a chance for it to crumble um so anyway I’m that’s my winding answer about that and this is you know we’ve been here

Before obviously and now maybe unlike you know the summer in the offseason when they were getting Kevin dur or getting Kyrie Irving and we knew that that meant Kevin Durant was coming to you dial the hype machine all the way up now and we’ve we’ve referenced the the

Oklahoma City Thunder model before now I’m more inclined to feel like i’ I’d like to see the Nets do that path just because not only there’s issues and concerns around getting those guys it’s not the same as just waiting for them as you mentioned going to free agency and

Signing them it’s going to cost you everything and I I I just don’t know whether it’s Donovan Mitchell or otherwise right now as it currently stands there is not a player or a second player because you’re going to need that too that I would say oh you can just go

Get them over the next season or two and find yourself in the Eastern Conference Finals and oh by the way we highlighted this on the live show earlier you know teams like the Knicks like they got stronger going in the Deep Run of the playoffs the Cavs with Donovan Mitchell

Are a two- seed r now looking very strong so the landscape changes right every few months you have to recheck in with where you are and by the way the Nets are 7 and 21 over the last 28 games that’s a part of the check-in too they

Were 13- 10 then they went seven and 21 so this team is different feels different and then you include the changes they made at the deadline today I I I just think that yeah I I said to you in the text before we got on I’m very capable of getting very homish once

I start to see young players and drafted guys get a little bit of run but I would close out on on this question to you how do you feel after you make these moves and you do see some young players does it change the way you perceptually watch

Games night in and night out because you got blown out by the Cavs but it feels different to me getting blown out by the Cavs when Royce O’Neal is playing and when veteran got you know when when Spencer Dy is playing well that means you’re a veteran heavy team and you

Think this team should be competing to win and they can’t do it now I’m talking about Jaylen Wilson showing promise right developing down the rest of the season it will change I think how I respond on post games regardless of wins or losses over the next 31 well yeah but

I reminder here this is going to look a little different like you’re going to bring in schroer you’re gonna get Cam Johnson back you’re gonna get DFS back right it’s not gonna be the young guy party here for like for the rest of the time and so I I would probably say that

We’re gonna get a group back that probably should win some games here um but overall one thing I want to say maybe do a little next week one thing I want to mention around that though one thing I think the Net’s really have to take a very hard look at and maybe be

Stringent about is like really managing Mel Bridge’s minutes here going forward he’s played so many minutes this season or excuse me he’s played the most minutes sorry okay I’m start over he’s played the second most minutes in the NBA since 2021 only Jason Tatum has played more there’s a pretty decent drop

Off after that to Jaylen Brown and those guys are just because of like like deep playoff run after deep playoff run Bridges isn’t exactly like that his a lot of his is just like accumulated minutes some of that was playoffs but he just plays a ton of regular season

Minutes too I think if you’re really looking to the Future they have to like have a plan in place to just not grind him all the way down and if you lose games you lose games but just there’s no reason to run the tread off the tires

Here in this particular season with a guy who again has already played the second most minutes in the entire NBA Over a four-year stretch and that doesn’t even count the FEA run so I think they have to be really careful with this play all the games but just

Play Third like just 33 34 minutes like I I I’m I I could get on board with that move I I there does that make sense to you like could you see that I’m not sure they’re gonna do it but I I can should be a priority to me should that be a

Part of it yes especially if you think you’re going to pursue a star and you want Bridges to be healthy right and available and take some of the tread off the tires yes they should I think the the question back is but did the Brooklyn Nets make these moves as you

Say at certain point we got we just got to move off we got to get Spencer Dy out of here so now if it was Spencer diw he just has to go so we’re going to bring shuder in and feel like it’s a lateral move as you mentioned maybe Wilson’s

Ready to contribute it’s a little bit it’s a downgrade from Royce O’Neal consistency experience but okay have they changed the Brooklyn Nets their own internal narrative about the goal of this season making the playoffs right like they are still just outside of the playing tournament now we may look at it

And go that doesn’t matter now at this point but if they still believe that then I don’t see them reigning in M brdes because he by the way he doesn’t see himself being reigned in right this would be this would be and I know we all know that but like this would be

Probably a point of contention if they started down the back end back end of games pulling his minutes back a little bit specifically around what I think is a smart idea you’re bringing up or a smart policy that should be in place I guarantee you it will sour him to to

What his status is to who he is and his desire to go out and play every single game as every good player great players do I give my team the best chance to win so if you keep taking me out of games that means you are hurting our chances

To win basketball games I think they probably run a foul a little bit from that relationship if they do so I mean but yeah they do but like plenty of teams just do this also like they like there’s just plenty of teams out there that just have sort of like quasi minute

Caps on what their guys play and you we can argue about whether the teams are could or not but like Orlando definitely does this right these guys they manage their minutes like pretty well around their young guys now not every game but you know they they don’t always they

Don’t always push it like so for instance I think like Bridges played 35 minutes tonight they lost they were down 20 for like lots of the game with really no hope of getting back like these are the situations that I’m talking about that need to be like really looked at

Again it’s a minor thing it’s not the end of the world but it’s mostly just for like this one guy who’s played so many minutes over the last yeah four five years that we’ve worried even about like fatigue and stuff like that maybe getting to him again in a year I don’t

Want to call this a lost year but if the goal is to go grab Superstars and like make a push you like this is not the year to rev the RPMs up to up to n and red line the whole thing like it’s just it’s just not it’s just not if your

Other goal is other thing if your goal is to just be fun for this year because you’re kind of waiting the string out and you’re g go do something different in a couple years then fine but that’s just not the Mark said it himself that’s

Not the goal so if that’s not the goal then they just I think they just need to tread a little carefully here with him that’s all yeah thread the needle right Jaylen Wilson not on one to one thread the needle little Noah Clowny right thread the needle save some guys some

Mileage here uh we will be back I know Dougs and clo at the show but just as a reminder Saturday night against the Spurs maybe the first time that we will see shuder that seems to be the indication and then Monday of next week because the Nets will play uh home and

Home against the Boston Celtics I think we can just talk about what’s the projection going forward here over the next 10 to 12 games the next month of the season and what would we like to see from this new look roster with these little modifications to make us think

That hey maybe the play in tournament is viable right that they can win some basketball games here that they can depend on Ben Simmons to remain healthy we’ll continue to talk about those narratives uh as well all right make sure you grab that free ebook we got oh

Excuse me got so excited I got choked up we got nets.com uh go grab that free ebook five net stories four net stories five net stories I can’t remember I had so much fun writing him I felt I felt like it was a felt like we wrote 20 but

I think it was just uh five net story about about the history of the team uh really really great response from this really want you guys to all check it out too totally free too just got to put in your email we got nets.com you might recognize this song is performed by

Jefferson Airplane in a little rockumentary called Give Me Shelter about the Rolling Stones and their nightmare at altimore that night the Oakland chapter of the Hell’s Angels had their way tonight it’s my turn that’s chip Douglas from Cable Guy oh brother was so great you lost me one of the

Alltime great poets we’re back again tomorrow and maybe for a brief moment here on YouTube talking more Brooklyn that’s basketball basketball basketball basketball basketball basketball basketball basketball Yeah it’s always good when Doug going out the door reminds me that we are Live on YouTube and we are going to stick around for a couple of minutes otherwise dangerously close to ending it outright we’re not going to stick around too long it’s been a long day from covering the

Deadline Doug unlike last year chose not to sleep through the deadline he chose to be an active participant hero it attacks my yeah it attacks my little hero over there so any questions comments takeaways from the deadline how you’re feeling about this team feel free to shout it out we’ll scroll through

Real real quick here for a couple of minutes and then we’re going to get out the door um I I saw some things along the way uh including one that said shuder should start over Ben Simmons how do you feel about that one I wouldn’t do

That I don’t know that doesn’t make any sense like they gota like I get that the fit’s not perfect but for what I mean the goal here is to play Simmons get him up play get him up to be able to play real minutes see what you have see if

You can salvage anything the 40 million I don’t know why you would start him over it even if the fit isn’t perfect so I don’t and I just don’t even think it’s like necessarily even a better fit like you would get CR trucked on defense with the guard situation and it would just

You give you would give away you would give away a lot too so I don’t know do you Sim just playing tons of minutes either there’s gonna be minutes available the guys playing 22 minutes a night or whatever do you think the one other thing I was thinking about was two

Things one um do do you prefer that over the last 31 they they continue to try to push Claxton and together just to say hey like to your point we have 31 games let’s see what let’s see if this can develop right we know that it’s looked

Bad at times Etc but more reps maybe this thing just gets to a place do you want to commit to that or look at it as because I actually thought about when we’re talking about Noah Clowney if he has little samples to get a little bit

Of run and you’re trying to push him towards a four and away from a five then I can see versions where if you give him little samples here and there pairing him with Ben Simmons would be interesting to watch and see how how how that Dynamic works because then you

Still have some length and you know some defensive value as well yeah I think the hope I think you try to start it it probably will not work and you try to get you try to stagger some more of their minutes and just try to have Simmons play with as much with DFS

Cameron Johnson Bridges and cam Thomas as possible Right like and and that’s and that’s a lineup you run also and some games you might even close with that lineup because depending on what kind of situation you’re in I think that’s the goal I think you probably are forced into

Having to play Simmons and claxon together with the understanding that that’s probably going to be an uphill climb but I think that’s just kind of where they are I don’t think you can bring in Dennis schroer and just like start him right I don’t think that’s I

Don’t I just don’t even know what the point would be really two quick ones here from Jared hi guys hi Jared and also uh this one here who becomes who’s our starting five and then who’s our six seven and eight there’s at least this is

At least a good one here from Brad name your starting five and then your three Off the Bench is a pretty clean cut if everybody if assume everyone’s healthy put everybody back at full health who’s your one through five and 6 through eight what do I think it’s gonna be I

Think it’s gonna be let’s go with yeah what you think it’s gonna be and then if we would make a tweak to it I think it’s gonna be Simmons cam male cam Johnson Claxton DFS and schroer first two guys off the bench and Dennis Smith Jr Off

The Bench too Lonnie Walker Off the Bench that’s your nine and then then there’s um some minutes for Jaylen Wilson here but it’s funny too because when you do that exercise and I said like 15 minutes Jaylen Wilson I could already I already know just running through my head there that that’s

There’s not 15 minutes available after that first nine and we’re gonna get the update uh Dron sharp I think is about a week away so now you put drron sharp in there too and and I think you’d like to have that value now that gets it’s funny because as we’ve always said the

Injuries seem to come at the right times for Jack vaugh and the coaching staff to avoid some really hard things Nicholas Claxton and Ben Simmons W you can’t share the court all together well what happens when day Ron sharp comes back it’s it’s a similar type of problem here

So having reintroducing him I’ll be interested to see how they look at it he’s he’s done enough he’s taken a step forward so he needs to play is one of the young guys so if I made that hierarchy this is where I come back to that Dennis Smith Jr thing I’m very

Curious about what maybe the Nets would have lik to have done could have done differently because it seems like even though they’re thin in the back court getting one of those players out of the way may have helped them you know Lonnie Walker that situation too I those two

Players are going to be who were ratcheting up from a minute share standpoint I’m going to be fascinated to see how those shake out here but as you say eight then you get to nine you get to 10 and maybe Jaylen Wilson though I think he should get consistent minutes

Maybe it’s a little bit trickier one thing I wouldn’t hate is I’m doing the I’m doing the minutes I’m doing these minutes real quick so I was gonna say because one thing I wouldn’t hate is if you if you brought down you’re made your point about male hey if we bring you

Down closer to 33 then 37 minutes 36 minutes then you just start to create these little ETS right okay so Jaylen Wilson can get some run every night so that you always give Dron sharp his share Lonnie Walker Dennis Smith Jr that you keep utilizing these guys but you

Start to get nine and 10 Deep and I guess Ben Simmons is the other big factor here because if he’s never going to clear 2025 then that keeps you a little more flexible right you have opened up minutes by moving out Spencer dewy by moving out Royce O’Neal that

Will not be one toone replaced by just two players yeah you just run out too quickly I I just I ran I ran it down right now and basically you and I I misspoke I guess in the Jaylen Wilson thing because I kind of wasn’t thinking about this properly if everyone is if

Everyone is uh is healthy I just went down to like minimums on some of these guys and I’m at 247 minutes so I’m already I’m seven over that’s with jayen Wilson not playing and every where you have where did you have dsj and Lonnie Walker in that 15 minutes for dsj 50 I’m

Just going really fast here like it was uh this is I’ll just give I’ll give you what it was 35 male 35 cam Thomas um and then in no 25 for Ben Simmons 28 for cam Johnson which is not crazy because he’s played like sort of limited minutes 32

For claxon I could probably tick that one down a little bit and then uh 20 I said 25 for DFS 22 for Schroeder 15 for lonni Walker and dsj and 13 for Sharp and then I just like had a couple random minutes in here but that’s still over

Like that’s still that’s still seven minutes that’s still seven minutes over so it’s like well someone I mean no one’s ever all healthy at the same time so that helps you a little bit but the it’s it’s hard like you you really do run out of minutes um and so and you

With this team it’s again like they they’re still kind of deep WR like veteran is kind of guys yeah um and so it might just take injuries and that’s like with not even that much of an increase on Ben Simmons minutes which they’re going to probably want to do at

Some point so I think that like you’re going to be sort of stuck in the same situation I think I probably didn’t think about this correctly when I made the Jaylen Wilson comment earlier yeah it does make me wonder like you said I mean the oneto

One of you know you’re not you’re not going to onetoone use O’Neal’s minutes for him but again you’d like to think that you could carve out seven or eight minutes for him but then you’re not going to play Lonnie Walker 10 minutes for Lon they just haven’t all and they

Also just haven’t all been healthy here and these guys have all sort of the minutes will be there because they’re never all in the court yeah so but but but the one point the one take away there that is very clear and we can close out is that when you go back and

Look at it now with how the roster is constructed there’s just a very real world where if you thought that this was and now Jaylen Wilson gets 31 games to really showcase and develop himself it it may ultimately not be there for him and that’ll be something for us to track

And probably something that’ll disappoint me in a in a it’ll disappoint me if this team does not start to win some basketball games right winning can make me look at this roster in a certain way in the back half of this season and feel a little bit differently about it

But I I was optimistic for Jaylen Wilson and now Doug has crushed that dream I think they are going to win some games I like I think that they’re GNA get some of these guys back it’s going to fit a little bit better you’re GNA see like Simmons plus DFS Plus cam Johnson’s

Gonna be like kind of a winning combo um right like just like defensively and like be able to space the floor I think we’re gonna see pockets of like good basketball here you know pace and space with Simmons where they just have like you know definite Shooters around them

And they can switch everything on defense I think we’re going to see plenty of I think we’re going to see plenty of that I mean tonight clearly wasn’t the night but getting some of these guys so guys yeah yeah like like schroer Dron sharp some pick and roll

There like that’s going to work I think and so I think there’s going to be combin plenty of combinations that will keep their floor high enough um and maybe there’s like an attitude change di go I don’t know like it’s it’s it’s like you know there’s there’s there’s reason

To believe that like the the the tone shifts a little bit here it’s been a rough stretch because they’ve lost so many games but I don’t know new a couple new faces in the locker room maybe get grab a win I and I I’m just know it like

I know there’s combinations here that work when they have all the guys back they just don’t have all the guys back you mentioned di Woody is its own thing just Royce O’Neal knowing a move was maybe coming right this is it 31 games this is the team right we know that this

Is the roster going forward that can certainly help inside the locker room as well all right that’ll do it for us Doug take us out I’m I’m done I’m done uh bow guarding the exits on these from from now on on the live you often do D yeah

Sorry so listen uh I know we’re cutting a short a little bit on the YouTube live here but reminder we were YouTube live for like 90 minutes earlier in the day as we tracked all this stuff so if you want our full right in the moment trade

Thoughts uh deadline just go back and listen to that and really appreciate everyone that was here tonight even after a pretty ugly Nets loss but that’s okay still roll it every single night after Nets games and like Adam said we’ll be back again Saturday night go

Grab that ebook we got nets.com no quote today that’s because Adam arber’s one of the all-time great poets we’ll be back again tomorrow gotcha buddy talking more Brooklyn that’ss basketball basketball basketball basketball basketball I demand a quote basketball basketball basketball yeah

  1. If Brooklyn is taking this one last big swing at a superstar era, it either surprisingly brings this team to the level they want to get to as an organization or it could derail their future for years to come….

  2. Itā€™s is so hard to get a superstar here unless someone walks in here due to their love for the team. Once in a blue moon opportunity we had was with Kyrie. That triggered KD and Harden to also move. It all went south. In my opinion I donā€™t think this will happen again.

  3. @LockedOnNets can you guys dissect next week the Sean Marks interview with the yes network from yesterday's dealine? he sounded delusional to me. Like he is actively lying to himself about state of the team.

  4. I donā€™t think we accomplished much at the trade deadline, certainly nothing of even minor significance imo. I donā€™t see the current group we have is a sturdy foundation on which to build a championship level team. Ultimately we will need one or two young superstars and pieces that fit well around them to get to that level. Thatā€™s a tall task. We will get better and more competitive, but I think our ceiling is second tier for the foreseeable future.

  5. Marks or Tsai completely misplayed this era. They have no picks, and they're not going to even make a play-in. They're trapped trying to compete with the Knicks in NYC and it is just dumb and bad business. Sure, they'll try to tinker in the off-season and pretend that they're relevant. But they won't be. This team won't be interesting until Mikal's time is up, unfortunately for him because he's an excellent player.

  6. This half a$$ rebuild the nets are trying to do is nothing but a slow motion trip to the bottom. Instead of trying to win now which is impossible right now they need to accept the fact that there rebuilding, trade your best assets for picks (unprotected 1st) and start from the ground up…

  7. I mean, this kind of goes back to what Doug was talking about the other day. The biggest failure here is that there is a disconnect between what the team is and what the organization thought or thinks they should be.
I think Doug and Adam agree with many Nets fans that they need to do a traditional rebuild. Not this stupid re-tool or whatever they wanna call it. However, if this retool is what you wanna do to stay competitive, and you end up being a lottery team anyway, that is where the failure lies. Itā€™s pretty concerning that marks has failed even to put together a team a boarderline playin team when more than half the league makes the playoffs thatā€™s pretty bad. Itā€™s pretty bad when he hands out more than $20 million a year into a role player in Cam Johnson and now thereā€™s stress about money and whether theyā€™re gonna bring back Claxton.

  8. Simmons and Claxton can't play together. He needs 4 shooters surrounding him. This team desperately misses Lonnie Walker and DFS…Sharpe would have grabbed about 15 rebounds last night. Sloppy no effort on the boards yet again

  9. The wizards had Beal and Kuzma and Spence and were 12th in the east. Itā€™s delusional to think weā€™re any better than a play in team when healthy

  10. Schroder is a gamer. We lowkey just got Dejounte Murray lite lol. By the end of the season he will be a fan favorite here just wait and see

  11. I've been a Nets fan since the Island Garden days with Lou Carnesseca at the helm. Sadly, I've realized that despite my deep devotion to this team, management has never truly honored their wonderful ABA past. I remember when the Coliseum would match MSG in terms of noise, but now at the Barclays Center, it feels like watching a play. Interestingly, the visiting fans always seem to be louder than the few Nets fans.

With that said, I have decided to finally walk away from this team and their so-called culture. It is an embarrassment to be associated with such a franchise. The Nets have the worst fan base in the NBA and their arena is the quietest in any sport. Perhaps the NBA should consider relocating them to Seattle, a city that truly deserves a franchise. Over the years, the Nets have let down their old-time fans, and I may be one of the last ones to jump ship. This franchise is just sad, and let's not even mention their gory uniforms.
