Kelly Olynyk grew up listening to Raptors games on the radio. Ochai Agbaji’s dad has known Masai Ujiri forever. The Raptors want players who want to be here. Mission accomplished.

“Agbaji’s father Olofu, who is Nigerian, has been a friend of Raptors president Masai Ujiri for years, and Ujiri welcomed the younger Agbaji to his new “family” when the trade was completed.

“He was basically saying, you know, you’re with family now,” the younger Agbaji said. “I know him for five or six years now and he’s really close with my dad.

“They grew up together, and kind of having those relations before being on the team and knowing him was good. So now being here, yeah, he’s right. It’s like being with family.”

And that as much as the on-court fit, which is still very much to be learned, is the reason the Raptors made the trade: to get players who want to be here.

“They were really upbeat and very excited to join our team,” Rajakovic said before the game. “They like what we’re developing here with the young roster, with players in their 20s.

“That’s a great fit for Ochai. I think for Kelly, coming back home is a big part of him being happy, enjoying our team.

“I think it’s very important because they want to be here. We want them to be here. It just gives us continuity, for us to start building something really special.”

Just hope Agbaji can actually play. Utah moved on from him very quickly for a lottery pick

Quickley seems to be happy to be here but we want him to be extactic. He’s the only one in the core that doesn’t have that many ties

Well Olynyk and RJ sure as hell won’t leave on their own.

I’m pretty sure Masai is like godfather in Nigeria at this point lmao

Pascal wanted to be here as well you know

Tired of this narrative we traded guys bc they were unhappy. It’s just lame hit pieces after they leave

For some reason, I feel like the raptors became a stepping stone place, where players thought they could come to get overpaid or to put up stats to go get paid somewhere else.

    That’s not a great thing

I don’t know, I don’t necessarily want to work for someone just because they’re friends with my dad. If anything I wouldn’t want to work with that person because then he’ll keep talking to my dad behind my back about work, and then next thing you know i’m eating dinner and my dad goes “Soo…how was work?” in that suggestive tone like he knows I fucked up at work today but it’s the last thing I want to talk about. Then an argument breaks out about how I should be grateful for the connections he has or some shit.

I don’t care if players want to be here or not. As long as they give 100% when they are here.

I used to listen to games on the Fan 590 & post on Real GM. I bet Kelly was the same.

    One of us.

The headline makes no sense – what does Agbaji’s dad knowing Masai have anything to do with him wanting to be in Toronto?

  12. Who are the players around the league and coming in future drafts that have connections to Masai. We can create a road map to our trades and drafts for the future.
