The Trail Blazers Did NOTHING Again! | Trade Deadline Reaction

Remember when I said people will always be able to excuse inactivity but this trade deadline man I’ve never seen a general manager get so much praise for doing absolutely nothing we’re talking about the guy who supposedly wanted to build around Dame but at last year’s trade

Deadline traded Josh Hart for a pick the guy who wanted to build around Dame but when he had the third pick apparently couldn’t trade it for anything and there was nothing worthwhile and he had to take scoot Henderson not only that the Blazers didn’t make a single free agent

Signing on day one and literally did absolutely nothing last off season until Dame asked out but then Cronin sticks it to Miami and doesn’t take the Miami package we debated all offseason about the best package Miami could hypothetically give up being four first round picks one from Tyler herro to a

Third team as well as haime hawz and Nicola yovic as well as a couple swaps Portland never seriously negotiated with Miami so who knows what they would have offered in the end but in the end Portland gets three first round picks a couple of swaps Malcolm Brockton who

Apparently they can’t trade and a center that’s injured for the season and the conversation went from this being nowhere good enough to this being an amazing trade package for Damen Lillard I don’t include Aon in this trade because that part of the deal was essentially separate but even if you

Wanted to include Aon in the deal and everything the Blazers sent out to Phoenix is that even good value with Aon on a Max contract but I don’t want to discuss that today instead I want to go into Joe Cronin and how the man continues to get away with doing

And we don’t do that here so doubling back to the Damen Lillard trade the part where the Blazers flip Drew holiday to the Celtics is actually kind of funny to look back on because a lot of people were hyping up the 2024 Golden State first round pick that the Blazers got

Back from the Celtics and I’ll just say I’m very happy with that pick that’s going to be a good asset and then the Blazers bring in Malcolm Brogden and it seemed like the entire fan base finally agreed on something the Blazers at least by the deadline would be able to flip

Malcolm Brogden for another first round pick or assets to help the rebuild and it was actually kind of nice being in agreement on something for once once it got closer to this year’s trade deadline and it became more and more apparent that the Blazer simply wanted to keep

Malcolm Brogden all of a sudden the narratives became about how bad the 2024 draft was and how picks in the latter half of the first round are basically worthless but when the Blazers got that Golden State pick we were expecting it to be in the latter half of the first

Round so it’s kind of funny how the goalpost moved there it’s also kind of funny how that became became an excuse to keep Malcolm Brogden when it seemed like everybody agreed that he should be traded and it’s obvious as to why the Blazers have three young guards they

Don’t have enough minutes for a fourth guard that should be playing a lot of minutes cuz Malcolm Brogden is freaking good now with shaneon sharp being out maybe for the rest of the season that minutes crunch isn’t there for the rest of the year so it allows Portland to

Hang on to Malcolm Brogden in the off season where then they absolutely have to trade him but it’s pretty unrealistic to expect Malcolm brogen’s trade market in the offseason to be better than it is right now he’ll be going into the final year of his deal compared to teams

Trading for him now where they would have had him for two playoff runs and there were a lot of buyers in this year’s Market there wasn’t a lot of sellers though and that’s part of the reason why this Market was dead there wasn’t a lot of good veteran players

Available but there’s a lot of narratives about how the trade market was dead and what teams gave up a first round pick at this year’s trade deadline there was really only one and that was Dallas giving up a top two protected 2027 first to the Charlotte Hornets for

PJ Washington in the two prevailing narratives our teams were only willing to trade 2024 first round picks for Malcolm Brogden which I don’t see why that would be the case or where that even came from as well as teams didn’t want to trade first round picks in

General just look at the trades that happened but the trades that happened were all for players that are noticeably worse players than Malcolm Brogden I don’t care what Monte Morris and Pat Beverly got traded for neither one of those guys are in the same realm of a player as Malcolm Brogden malcol Brogden

This past off season had the 30th pick traded for him where he was supposed to be going to the clippers but then the Clippers didn’t want to wave his physical which they would have had to do to get the trade through on time before the new league year so with injury

Questions and in a better draft a team was trying to trade a first round pick for Malcolm Brogden I know it was the last first- round pick of the draft but it’s safe to assume that Malcolm Brogden as he’s been healthy pretty much all season long and playing well has played

His way into a little higher trade value at this year’s trade deadline and a lot of teams will normally maybe overpay a little bit for a veteran at the trade deadline if they feel like that guy can be a missing link to a championship run and with the league being as wide open

As ever that’s part of the reason why I believe there were not many sellers this is the type of Market where the Blazers should have been able to effectively extract as much value from Malcolm brogen as possible I don’t know if the same Dynamics are going to line up in

The off season where the Blazers are going to keep the same deal therefore it feels like the Blazers simply just wanted to keep Malcolm br and or their asking price for him was too high is that asking price going to come down in the off season are they

Going to stop wanting him in the offseason that’s what has me worried about this year’s trade deadline and the way the Blazers are viewing Malcolm Brogden because I don’t think the Blazers can go into next year with scoot Henderson Anthony Simon Shane sharp and Malcolm Brogden all playing guard

Minutes Jeremy Grant might still be starting at small forward which he’s done recently you also got matis Dall under contract at small forward tman Kamar has played some small forward how do you find minutes for those seven guys at three positions when a lot of them

Are your main players or the core of your rebuild I think scoot Henderson should start next year I think he’ll be ready to take a second-year leap shadon sharp should hopefully be able to be healthy and put together more of the dominant stretches that we saw for five

Or six games at a time earlier this year I expect Anthony Simons to be back as well the odd man out in a rebuild is going to be the fourth guard who’s going to turn 32 years old next year and the Blazers could get some value for so it

Seems like something has to change with the way this front office is viewed the situation or they have to lower their asking price this offseason there are a couple of teams like the Philadelphia 76ers who wanted to save cap space for this upcoming off season to be a player

In free agency if they strike out in free agency then that’s a team that might be willing to enter the Malcolm Brogden trade market and give up a decent package for him and then the Blazers could get back the same value that they could have gotten at this

Year’s trade deadline there’s also the possibility that the Blazers just wanted to keep him around for the rest of the year to Mentor scoot Henderson but I think vent mentorship has gotten extremely overrated we have no way of knowing how much Malcolm Brogden has helped scoot Henderson but I feel like

Malcolm Brogden gets way too much credit for scoot Henderson improving scoot Henderson has been a 19-year-old rookie with a lot of raw talent that needed to be refined and he needed reps to grow he was going to improve a lot in his rookie season he also started off really really

Poorly so there was a lot of room for growth from the get-go he would have grown as a player with or without Malcolm Brogden but I feel like Malcolm gets way too much of the credit for mentoring scoot Henderson if scoot Henderson truly needs Malcolm brogen to

Be playing ahead of him and mentoring him that badly then he probably isn’t that good of a prospect you got a head coach who’s a former point guard that should be able to handle some of that and the Blazers can also bring in a third string point guard that’s a

Veteran to Mentor scoot as well the Blazers actually had that setup in the past with Damen Lillard who started and played heavy minutes right away as a rookie and Lillard has credited Earl Watson who barely played and was behind him in the pecking order for a lot of

The veteran mentorship early on in Dame’s career that is the ideal veteran mentorship setup for scoot Henderson going forward instead of Malcolm Brogden now I do think it was a good move to bring scoot Off the Bench when he was struggling and let him get his sea legs

So to say coming off the bench not playing heavy minutes protecting his confidence a little bit because the start of the season was very very rough but he started to turn it around lately he’s started to play really really good and the down side of this is even in a

Game for example against the Milwaukee Bucks where scoot Henderson has 15 points in the first half and looks great he makes a couple of mistakes in the second half Chanty doesn’t trust him anymore and only plays him nine minutes in the second half despite how good scoot Henderson was for the majority of

That game and instead ends with Malcolm Brogden and Brogden ends up playing like 36 minutes scoot plays 22 when he had 15 points was efficient that’s not good that’s not good I understand that they’re going to try and win win games even in a rebuild even in a down year

But they also need to prioritize development and when scoot Henderson is playing well enough where he might be the best option to help you win a game then you got to roll with him because you’re also developing him you’re also giving him the NBA reps that he needs

And I think it’s a great idea to continue to let scoot Henderson build upon any successful stretch of play he has as well as letting him work through some mistakes especially when he’s played well earlier in the game because that isn’t something that should mentally destroy him and you can also

Learn a lot from your mistakes you can learn a lot from failure you can learn a lot from being put in uncomfortable positions young players don’t need to be completely coddled in order to become Stars a lot of them need a good situation as well as challenges in order

To cultivate growth as a prospect the Blazers should not shy away from the second part of that to play Malcolm Brogden 36 minutes in a game when they’re 15 and 36 that doesn’t add up to me Joe Cronin doesn’t deserve any praise for this trade deadline it appears he

Wanted to keep Malcolm Brogden into the off season for whatever reason what is there to praise about that you can always find excuses for inactivity such as the new CBA the market wasn’t good enough there were no trades out there for him we’ve heard that multiple times

In the past we heard that with the third overall pick just last off season this is the second time in less than a year that he’s had an asset that supposedly they wanted to trade but they didn’t and they didn’t really want to and Cronin and his presser said

He much rather would have added someone than subtract someone and basically they weren’t looking for picks they were looking for players and that in Joe’s own words is an admission that he wanted to keep Malcolm Brogden you can make the case that it’s PR spin or just GM talk

Or this or that but we’ll find out this offseason because this offseason they have to trade Malcolm Brogden and if they don’t actions speak louder than words and the actions would say that they want to keep them regardless of what Market is out there or this or that

Whatever excuse you can come up with to excuse an activity anyway let me know what you think about this Malcolm Brogden Saga and this year’s trade deadline and shout out to bet us get those three 125% bonuses and check out those funny awesome Super Bowl props with that link in the description box

  1. He knows how to acquire NBA draft picks but as far as good trades and work in the angle he doesn’t have a clue

  2. I would have preferred to trade Brogs but I can buy the mentor thing IF I trusted Cronin to get something done in the offseason and that's the rub. I do not trust Cronin as far as I can throw him cause he is a proven liar / BS artist. Also I might have been more willing to buy it if Cronin was honest ( yeah right ) and said with Sharpe being injured we thought keeping him would be best but in the offseason we would explore it again. However he said what he did and made himself look like a joke and a fool and trying to rival the Pistons GM for worst in the league cause right now that is a neck and neck race.

  3. There will come a point when it's a giant catastrophe to not do anything, this trade deadline just isn't that point yet. Something do the new CBA brogdon's value may even be slightly higher in the off-season so it's not a catastrophe at this point. If they continue to do nothing all the way through next trade deadline that would be time to hit the panic button.
